PARK USE

Park hours have been posted. Park hours are 8 AM to 8 PM. Also, those wishing to play baseball in the park or street, please be careful. Any damage done to resident’s property is the responsibility of those parents of the children that cause it. Also it has been brought to the Board’s attention that use of foul language and trouble at the park must stop. If Constables report such behavior, individuals may become barred from park/pool area. Let’s all have fun and play nice. Older kids watch out for little ears nearby. Remember, $250 reward to anyone who provides information about damage or vandalism to the park. This reward will be paid and no one will ever know who reported such damage.

STREET LIGHTS

Your Association pays for your streetlights from your annual dues, whether they work or not. If a light is out in your area, please call 713-207-2222 and report it. Each light pole should have a number on it. When reporting the out or malfunctioning light, give them the pole number and closest street address. We want all of our lights to work. A lighted area is a safer area.

ABANDONED OR OVERGROWN PROPERTY

Do you live next door or near someone who has abandoned or left a house vacant? Has the grass grown two or more feet high? Are there rodents and snakes coming from their backyards? Would you like to get the property cleaned up? Can you see over the back fence from your property? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you are the one who needs to make the first move in getting this matter resolved. Williamsburg Colony Maintenance Association cannot call the Harris County Health Department at 713-439-6270, since we can only report on property adjacent to the front entrance and the Pool/ Clubhouse areas. We need someone who will give permission for the Health Department to come on their property to view violations of neighbors. So please, help us get rid of dangerous conditions in our subdivision.

RESIDENT COMMENT CARD

If you have noticed a problem in the subdivision you think needs taken care of, please complete a resident comment form and mail it in. We get a drive through once a month and sometimes we might miss something.

The Williamsburg Colony Maintenance Association welcomes input from our residents. If you wish to comment on any aspect of your neighborhood (positive or negative) you may use this form to do so. All comments mail to WMCA c/o PCMI, Attn. Delorest Sue, PO Box 219223, Houston, TX 77218-9223 or call 281-504-1306. All comments are strictly confidential. CURFEW REMINDER

We would like to remind residents that being in Harris County means those under the age of 18 must not be roaming the streets after midnight. Any children spotted after midnight should be reported to the Constables at 281-463-6666. Most of the trouble we have in the subdivision that is attributed to mischievous minors occurs after the curfew. Once park hours are posted, anyone in the park after hours will be charged with trespassing.

GARAGE SALE SIGNS

To all Williamsburg Colony residents, garage sales are great, we can increase our attic and closet space, locate things we forgot that we had and most important, make a few extra bucks. The one thing that is sometimes forgotten is the placement and removal of our garage sale signs. So please neighbors, if and when you have a garage sale, let’s try and remember not to place garage sale signs on any of our community signs or poles. Also, remove signs that are staked when your garage sale is complete. Cleaner streets do make a difference.

VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH LEASH LAW

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question. 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle. 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

GARDENING TIPS FOR OCTOBER

• Dig and store caladiums before the foliage dies. Allow the bulbs to dry in the shade, shake off the dried soil and dust with sulphur to control fungus. Store by hanging in open mesh bags or old panty hose. • Flowers planted for spring can begin when the temperatures are going to stay cooler. Shrubs and trees can be planted now. Woody plants concentrate on root growth through the winter and the more headstart they can get before summer, the better. • October 15th is about the time for dividing and planting daylilies. • Watch out for brown patch in St. Augustine grass. These circular brown patches are caused by a fungus that is activated by moist cool weather. Control with Daconil. • If you need to do any pruning, do it early in the month. The re-growth stimulated by pruning needs to harden off before that odd-ball frost of Halloween. Prune fruit trees when leaves begin to fall. Remove all dead, weak and over-crowded growth. Tip back main branches to control size and shape. Spray w/dormant oil when temperature is between 30-60 degrees. • Cut back tops of perennials after they have bloomed. Divide roots and transplant anytime from now until March, the earlier the better. • Get the ant baits down. This will greatly reduce your spring populations.• Clover left over from last year may be growing. It’s best to hit it with the post-emerge herbicides in October and November. At least two applications are usually needed, even if done this early. • For color throughout the winter, begin planting pansies.

KATY ISD BOARD CALLS FOR NOVEMBER BOND ELECTION

During the August Board work study meeting, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees accepted a bond referendum recommendation by the Student Activity Facilities (SAF) Bond Committee and called for a Nov. 5th Bond election. It is projected that there will be no tax rate increase from the current rate of $.40 with the $99 million authorization. The authorization of the bond referendum by voters would fund the building of three new Student Activity Facilities: AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES CENTER - $25 MILLION The District has outgrown the current L.D. Robinson Pavilion and room for growth or expanded instructional opportunities is limited. Developing an Agricultural Sciences Center at the current Gerald D. Young facility on Katy-Hockley Road will address student safety and convenience; reduce animal safety risk caused by travel; address the negative impact on Katy HS and Leonard Merrell Center operations and allow for strategic investment in a long-term solution. STEM PROJECT CENTER - $4.5 MILLION The STEM Project Center will provide additional classroom and project space for students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses and activities. It will provide increased space for students to conduct large-scale experiments such as robotics and would lend itself to a variety of engineering projects such as boats, catapults and chip manufacturing. Physics teachers would also have the ability to video a large-scale demonstration at the S.T.E.M. Center while students are viewing from their classroom. 14,000 SEAT STADIUM - $69.5 MILLION A second stadium will address scheduling issues that will become increasingly difficult as future high schools are opened. ISD high schools currently participate in varsity football, soccer and marching contests at Rhodes Stadium. With the opening of Tompkins High School, Katy ISD will schedule seven varsity football teams into Rhodes Stadium beginning in August of 2014. Scheduling seven schools in Rhodes Stadium will create a challenge for the District to comply with the U.I.L. 5-day rule. KATY ISD’S PARTNERS IN EDUCATION DEBUTS “HEY VO!”

If you’ve ever thought about being someone’s sweetheart, Katy ISD invites you to watch “Hey VO!” (http://vimeo.com/72830951) - the district’s new invitation to volunteers. Starring Cinco Ranch High School Choir Director David Lee and choreographed by Taylor Drill Team Coach Darby Boyd, the film features dancers and singers from all seven Katy ISD high schools and a cameo by Superintendent Alton Frailey. This cinematic call to action is a reminder that volunteering is fun and that every Katy ISD campus needs and welcomes volunteers. Last year’s volunteer video, “Call Us Maybe,” won the prestigious Crystal Award from the Texas Schools Public Relations Association.

SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT RETURNS TO KATY FOR 2014

Katy ISD announced recently that the Southland Conference basketball tournament will return to the Merrell Center on March 12 - 15, 2014. The men’s and women’s basketball tournament brings more than 15,000 visitors to the Katy area each March and is responsible for approximately 2,000 nightly rooms in local hotels. “The Southland Conference is again very pleased to bring our marquee Basketball Tournament to Katy and the Merrell Center,” said Tom Burnett, commissioner of the Southland Conference. “We’ve had a successful run over the last six years in Katy and the seventh tournament at the Merrell Center should be even more exciting for the teams and fans!” The Conference provides an opportunity for Katy ISD students to participate in a variety of volunteer capacities such as ball boys/girls and student trainers. Students can also earn hours for the National Honor Society. “This event is a great opportunity for Katy ISD students to participate in a major collegiate sporting event. The Southland Conference puts on a first class event and we’re thrilled to have them back to the Katy area,” said Ben Rolens, general manager of the Merrell Center.

Patriot Day 5K has a very simple mission - to educate people about Patriot Day. In 2002, Patriot Day was designated as a Day of Remembrance honoring those killed by the terrorist attacks of September 11th. There are still many people across the United States who do not know about Patriot Day and what it means. We would like to change that. Join us Saturday, September 28th, at Minute Maid Park (501 Crawford St., Houston, TX 77002) for this chip-timed, certified 5K course. Our goal is to honor the victims of 9/11 and raise awareness for Patriot Day and its meaning. We will also be raising money for our very worthy charity Partners: Voices of September 11th, 9/12 Generation, Wounded Warriors, Jeep’s S.A.F.E. Return, Cancer Schmancer and the Colon Cancer Alliance. You will also be Running to Win! Every registrant will automatically be entered into a drawing to win a brand new Jeep Patriot! Through our Patriot Day 5K runs held in multiple cities throughout the country each year, we will be bringing awareness to Patriot Day and its meaning. At the same time, we will be bringing communities together so that we can remember what it means to be an American, what it means to be patriotic, and what it feels like to want to make America better. We encourage you to come out and support our nation and honor the tragedies of September 11th. For more information and to register, please visit https://runsignup. com/Race/TX/Houston/PatriotDay5KHouston.

SEVEN LAKES HIGH SCHOOL PRESENT TWELVE ANGRY JURORS

Seven Lakes High School’s award winning Studio VII Theatre Company will present Twelve Angry Jurors, based on the Emmy award winning teleplay by Reginald Rose and adapted for the stage by Sherman Sergel, on October 10-12, 2013, in the SLHS Performing Arts Center (PAC). Go inside the Jury Room and witness first-hand the dilemma of 12 jurors as they decide the fate of a 19-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his father. What looks to be an open-and-shut case unravels when Juror #8 is the sole holdout of the initial guilty vote. Tempers flare, arguments grow heated and they become “Twelve Angry Jurors.” Will they end up finding the defendant innocent or guilty? Will they sentence him to death? How will their personal biases and prejudices affect deliberations? Will “reasonable doubt” result in a “hung jury?” Don’t miss out on all the intense legal drama of Twelve Angry Jurors, presented by Studio VII Theatre Company, directed by Chocs Landgrebe, with Technical Direction by Joshua Heerssen. Performances will be held October 10th, 11th and 12th, at 7 PM, each day, with a 2 PM Matinee on October 12th. Presale Reserved General Admission Tickets go on sale the week of September 30th. Prices are $8 for Students, $10 for Adults and $5 for KISD Gold Card holders. PAC Box office hours are from 10 AM-3 PM Monday through Friday.

MILDRED’S UMBRELLA THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES ITS 2013-2014 SEASON!

CARNIVAL ROUND THE CENTRAL FIGURE by Diana Amsterdam. Regional Premier - November 7-23, 2013. A wild ride through theatrical terrain that sears the senses and impacts the audience at a visceral place, which also manages to be hilariously funny and heartbreakingly real in the five core scenes of a young woman’s visit to the death bed of her friend. Her moment of acknowledgment and comfort comes hard in the face of denial, moralizing, insane positive thinking, desperate chit chat and the existential fears we all harbor about the end moments of life - the great mystery. MUSEUM OF DYSFUNCTION IV - December 6-14, 2013. Short plays from 200 writers who submitted from all over the US and were chosen by a panel. Co-produced by Wordsmyth Theatre. ROME by John Harvey - World Premier - March 6-22, 2014. This original script is being written by local playwright, John Harvey, workshopped by designers, musicians and actors, video documented over a year and presented as a collaborative effort as our final play in the season. Located at Studio 101 at Spring Street Studios, 1824 Spring Street, Houston, TX 77007. All performances begin at 8 PM. Price - $18 regular/ $10 students and seniors. Pay as you can on Mondays and $25 for opening night with a party immediately after the show. More info/reservations: www.mildredsumbrella.com - info@ mildredsumbrella.com or 832-463-0409.

Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle! We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 35 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year includes songs from the 1920’s, as well as a Spiritual Medley that will start your toes tapping. Come visit any Friday. We would love to see you and if you decide to join us, we would be delighted. For more information, please call Pat at 281-497-4904 or visit our website, www.Decibelles.org. PS: We are starting rehearsal for this Christmas Show. You have time to prepare for it.
