CORNELIUS TIMELY TIPS FOR FALL GARDENING
Fall Lawn Care: Give your lawn the feeding and care it needs to remain lush and beautiful through the winter months. There are 3 Basic Steps to creating a lawn that will stay lush and green throughout the winter.
Christmas Lights Installed & Removed
281-861-0962
Step 1 - Weed Control Apply a pre-emergent herbicide. This is best done in the last two weeks of September or first two weeks of October. Pre-emergent herbicides only kill weed seeds, not weeds that have sprouted. This is why it is important to apply these products every season for best results.
A.G. Painting & Remodeling 832-715-0999
Step 2 - Seed Cool-Season Grasses After applying pre-emergents, overseed your lawn with grass seed that will thrive in winter. Good choices are Tall Fescue and Perennial Ryegrass. To overseed, simply use a seed caster to distribute grass seed evenly right over your current lawn. When you water, they will work their way down to the soil where they can root. As the weather cools, you will notice these grasses begin to emerge and grow, giving your garden that gorgeous emerald green color all through the winter.

Step 3 - Feed High-Quality Nutrients Finally, fertilize your lawn for the fall. If you have planted new grass seed for the winter, a blend of 21-5-10, will provide everything your young grass needs to develop strong roots for winter, as well as the right blend of nutrients to green your existing grass.

LAKES ON ELDRIDGE BIBLE STUDY
We continue to meet at the activities center at Lakes on Eldridge North until the Beach Club at Lakes on Eldridge rebuilds the clubhouse that burned down on Christmas night. Our study will be guided with a book from Joanna Weaver called Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World. Joanna Weaver is an author, pastor’s wife and mother of two who also writes for Focus on the Family, Guideposts and HomeLife. She is also award-winning author of the wedding gift book With This Ring. This twelve-week study addresses issues women encounter while living in a whirlwind society and trying to develop and maintain a close relationship with Jesus Christ. She uses Luke 10:38-40, the story of Jesus’ friends Mary and Martha to springboard into contemporary living. Little has changed in the last 2,000 years. The author offers examples, questions, problems and solutions from Scripture to weld a woman’s heart to Jesus’ no matter how busy she is. Please join us for this refreshing study beginning at 9:15 AM on Tuesdays. Study guides will be available at the first meeting and we will begin the first chapter then. All are welcome.

CONSIDERING GETTING A NEW DOG?
…or if you know friends and family who are, please consider and suggest rescuing vs. buying a dog from a breeder. We have every breed of purebred dog available in our Texas pounds and shelters, in great quantities. This is because of the complete lack of any regulations or limit on breeding in Texas. • Approximately 30-40% of euthanasias in pounds involve purebred animals. • Mixed breeds in Texas stand almost no chance of making it out of the pounds alive. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these dogs; they just had the misfortune of being owned by people who did not provide for their needs and care and obviously had no

“HATS OFF TO VOLUNTEERS” AT CY-FAIR ISD
“Whenever you wear your hat, your day will be special.” - Margo Nickel In Cy-Fair ISD, volunteers have the opportunity to wear lots of different hats. Some will find themselves wearing the hat of a library helper or classroom reader. Others find that organizing a fundraiser or mentoring a student is the hat they wear best. Whatever volunteer hat you are wearing in our schools, one thing is certain; your day will be special. Cy-Fair ISD volunteers center the attention of their service on supporting students and staff and making a significant contribution to the education of children. They give freely of their time and resources and have an impact on the academic and personal development of our students. Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is fortunate to be able to draw from a terrific diversity of skills and knowledge in its community. If you are interested in being a part of an exciting group of volunteers and making a difference in your Cy-Fair ISD Schools or would like more information, please feel free to contact Pam Scott, Partners in Education Director at 281-894-3950. CYPRESS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL WARRIOR FOOTBALL
Congratulations to Cypress Christian senior defensive back, captain and four-year starter, Michael Boyd, who was honored by the Touchdown Club of Houston at their annual Preseason Team Banquet. The keynote speaker was Don Trull who was recently inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and played for the Houston Oilers in the 1960s. He challenged all the players to use their talents for more than just the game of football. The Cy-Christian Warriors have a full schedule through midNovember competing against area rivals for the district title. Armed with the talents and skills of returning players, newly discovered talent and additional coaches, the Warriors are mighty contenders this season. Be sure to catch the action. Warrior Football is streamed live on the internet each week via this link: CypressChristian.org/ Athletics/Game-Day.cfm. Homecoming is set for October 11, 2013, which includes a parade, tailgate party, the crowning of king and queen, the annual alumni picture and a great game against rival Bay Area Christian.

NOAH’S ARK WAS LONGER THAN THE CY-CHRISTIAN FOOTBALL FIELD
Kindergarten teachers are making the Bible come to life through fun and realistic activities. Students enjoyed learning about Noah and his faithfulness to God while on the Warrior football field. To get a better understanding of the size of the ark (which was 450 feet long and 75 feet wide), one class stood at each end of the football field, one class stood on the side and one class stood in the middle. They couldn’t believe that the ark was even longer than the football field! In addition, one of the kindergarten teachers released a helium balloon on a string that was 45 feet high to show the height of the ark. The children were able to see just how tall the ark really was! Noah definitely didn’t build it in one day. They marveled at God’s perfect plans and at His faithfulness to keep His promises.

CORNERSTONE UMC BLESSING OF THE PETS OCTOBER 6TH AT 4 PM
Chances are you’ve heard the term “pet blessing,” but aren’t sure what it entails (no pun intended) or what the purpose is. Well, the simplest way to describe a pet blessing is: A spiritual celebration to honor our loyal companions who love us unconditionally. This special ceremony is traditionally held in the fall around St. Francis of Assisi Day, October 4th. This ceremony is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures. St. Francis wrote a Canticle of the Creatures, an ode to God’s living things: “All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures.” Cornerstone UMC will be holding its “Blessing of the Pets” on Sunday, October 6th, at 4 PM. People are invited to bring their

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through October. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.
