OBEY TEXAS LAW WHEN PARKING ON THE STREETS

The majority of all car burglaries had valuables visible in their car!! Bags, purse, phones, GPS, laptops, are all invitations to criminals. Do not leave any valuables visible at any time. Please note the following laws apply to all parked vehicles: • Park 30 feet from a stop sign • Park 20 feet from an intersection or crosswalk • Park 15 feet from a fire hydrant • Park no more than 18” from curb • Lock your car when it is parked on the street • Park with the flow of traffic • Do not block driveways or access to mail boxes • No parking on the sidewalks • No more than 48 hours parked on the street • Vehicles parked on street must have current registration and inspection

If you are not expecting a delivery or any other visitors, you DO NOT have to answer the door. We have suggested that you yell to the door, that you are home and that you have the police on the phone and to please leave your property. If the person at the door refuses to leave your front door, call our dispatcher at 281463-6666 and have a deputy respond to check the area for the person. Please make sure your property is as secure as possible. Lock all doors and windows properly and add extra locks to windows and patio doors, if possible. If you are not sure about the security of your home, Harris County Constable Pct. 5 has a Home Inspection Program that you can schedule for your home. Sgt. Mitch Hutter is our Home Inspection Officer and is certified by the State of Texas to advise you of additional things you can do to secure your home. This is also a great way to receive a discount on your home insurance rates. Sgt. Hutter can be reached through the same number as our dispatcher. Follow these tips and keep your home safe! Sgt. Higginbotham FREE HOME INSPECTION SURVEY Save 5 to 10% on your homeowners insurance (Depending on your insurance carrier) GET SIMPLE SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO BETTER SECURE YOUR HOME Call the Pct5 constable’s office at 281-463-6666 and ask for Sergeant Mitch Hutter J. A NOTE ABOUT SECURITY

There have been a few residential burglaries in and around Cimarron in the past few months. If someone were to knock at the door or ring the bell, while you are home, don’t just ignore them and hope they will go away. Respond to them in some way, to see what they want or to make them go away.

ATTENTION!

Please be careful and slow down while driving through the subdivision; remind your young drivers to do also. Please, be aware of your surroundings and parents, remind your children to watch for vehicles when crossing the street.

PARKED CARS

e y w r

Please park your vehicles in your garage or at least in your driveway, if at all possible. Please be considerate of your neighbors and the fire trucks on your street. If you must park on the street, be considerate of the neighbor across the street, who must back from a driveway in order to enter the street. As our area has grown, so has the number of vehicles in the subdivision. Most seem to have more than one car per family and some have even more, as the children become driving age. Please try to be considerate of others who try to navigate between the cars that are left on the street. Children darting into the street or riding bicycles are more easily seen with less parked cars blocking the view of them. Thank you for your cooperation.

WEST I-10 FIRE DEPARTMENT

Greetings from your friends at the West I-10 Fire Department. We would like to take this opportunity to share some tips with our community as the weather starts to warm up. Pool time is fun time but with lots of fun comes major responsibility. Adults must always accompany children while they are in the pool, turning your back or “just running in the house” for even a moment can have disastrous consequences. Also as the weather starts to warm up please make sure to hydrate yourselves and your family. Heat related incidents are very preventable, remember to take breaks, drink plenty of water and wear appropriate spring clothes. Did you know that the West I-10 Fire Department is a department you can join? Members come from all walks of life and work together to serve their community. The West I-10 Fire Department is also committed to community involvement and as such would like all our citizens to know the best way to contact us. If you have an emergency, please dial 9-1-1, but if you have a question about the Department or would like to inquire about a public relations event, please dial 281-675-3639 or visit our website at www.westI-10fd.org.

VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH LEASH LAW

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more then six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle or 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk to street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

HOMEOWNERS!!

If you know of a neighbor/residence who is not receiving the “Cimarron Star,” please notify Krenek Printing Company by calling 281-463-8649 or emailing us at news@krenekprinting.com. All we need is the address. Thank you!

KATY ISD BOARD CALLS FOR NOVEMBER BOND ELECTION

During the August Board work study meeting, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees accepted a bond referendum recommendation by the Student Activity Facilities (SAF) Bond Committee and called for a Nov. 5th Bond election. It is projected that there will be no tax rate increase from the current rate of $.40 with the $99 million authorization. The authorization of the bond referendum by voters would fund the building of three new Student Activity Facilities: Agricultural Sciences Center - $25 million The District has outgrown the current L.D. Robinson Pavilion and room for growth or expanded instructional opportunities is limited. Developing an Agricultural Sciences Center at the current Gerald D. Young facility on Katy-Hockley Road will address student safety and convenience; reduce animal safety risk caused by travel; address the negative impact on Katy HS and Leonard Merrell Center operations and allow for strategic investment in a long-term solution. STEM Project Center - $4.5 million The STEM Project Center will provide additional classroom and project space for students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses and activities. It will provide increased space for students to conduct large-scale experiments such as robotics and would lend itself to a variety of engineering projects such as boats,

6

catapults and chip manufacturing. Physics teachers would also have the ability to video a large-scale demonstration at the S.T.E.M. Center while students are viewing from their classroom. 14,000 Seat Stadium - $69.5 million A second stadium will address scheduling issues that will become increasingly difficult as future high schools are opened. Six Katy ISD high schools currently participate in varsity football, soccer and marching contests at Rhodes Stadium. With the opening of Tompkins High School, Katy ISD will schedule seven varsity football teams into Rhodes Stadium beginning in August of 2014. Scheduling seven schools in Rhodes Stadium will create a challenge for the District to comply with the U.I.L. 5-day rule. For more information about the StudentActivity Facilities bond package, visit www.katyisd.org/facilities/Pages/2013FacilitiesProposal.aspx.

KATY ISD NEW WEBSITE HOMEPAGE LAUNCHED

Katy ISD is proud to announce the launch of its new website homepage and the gradual transition of department and campus websites over the course of the fall semester. The new homepage is the culmination of a yearlong initiative to gather feedback and direction from parents, staff and other Katy stakeholders about how the District’s website could better serve our community’s needs. What emerged is a clean design, consistent and improved navigation, an upgrade to the technology that supports the site and quick acess to our most frequently visited District-wide webpages. Department pages and campus websites will be transitioned to the new homepage format during the fall semester. In the meantime, some department pages and all campus websites will be temporarily linked to the older version of the District’s website. Some examples of pages in which visitors will experience redirects to the old website are the Transportation, Teaching & Learning and Special Education pages. We greatly appreciate your patience as we continue to improve upon the website to make it a better experience for all who visit it. Wishing you a successful school year, Katy ISD Technology Department.

CARNIVAL ROUND THE CENTRAL FIGURE by Diana Amsterdam. Regional Premier - November 7-23, 2013. A wild ride through theatrical terrain that sears the senses and impacts the audience at a visceral place, which also manages to be hilariously funny and heartbreakingly real in the five core scenes of a young woman’s visit to the death bed of her friend. Her moment of acknowledgment and comfort comes hard in the face of denial, moralizing, insane positive thinking, desperate chit chat and the existential fears we all harbor about the end moments of life - the great mystery. MUSEUM OF DYSFUNCTION IV - December 6-14, 2013. Short plays from 200 writers who submitted from all over the US and were chosen by a panel. Co-produced by Wordsmyth Theatre.
