HOA BOARD MEETINGS
The Falcon Ranch HOA Board monthly meetings are held at The Club at Falcon Point on the fourth Wednesday of each month except for December. There will not be a meeting scheduled for the month of December. Meetings will begin again in January. The Club at Falcon Point is located at 24503 Falcon Point Drive, Katy, TX. Regular meetings begin at 6:30 PM and residents are welcome to observe. If you would like to address the Board, please call the PMG office at 713-329-7100, to be placed on the agenda. The Board, which is made up of solely Falcon Ranch homeowners, wants to hear resident concerns, but due to time constraints, open-session discussions must be limited. If you plan to attend, please call the PMG office or check the website (www.falconranchhoa.com) to confirm meeting location or for more details.
BULLETIN FROM THE BOARD By now, you are probably aware that the new hike and bike path along the Willow Fork Drainage ditch is complete and in use. The path is a beautiful addition to our community and we thank the Willow Fork Drainage District for completing this project. We feel that Falcon Ranch residents will certainly benefit from this addition. What many of you may not realize is that this path is located on WFDD property and is owned by the WFDD. It is not on Falcon Ranch property, although PMG, the management company for Falcon Ranch, has been receiving complaints about motorized vehicles being
observed on this path. Board members of Falcon Ranch have discussed this issue with the Board members the WFDD and both parties are committed to stopping this activity. Occasionally, the WFDD will have workers who will use the path and may be driving a pickup truck or a small ATV on and around the embankment. However, if you see someone riding a motorized vehicle on or around the path that does not appear to be working for the WFDD, please report this activity to the Sheriff’s Deputies dispatcher by calling 281341-4665 and selecting the prompt “dispatcher.”
FALCON RANCH HOLIDAY PARTY Help start off the holiday spirit at the Falcon Ranch Holiday Party. The event will be held at the Falcon Ranch swimming pool recreation area on December 7, 2013 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. So plan to join us in celebrating this festive season.

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR Please help keep our roads safe by not parking on the streets in our neighborhoods. Some of our roads are very busy throughout the day and evening, yet they are difficult to drive when cars parked on the road reduce them to one-lane streets. In the case of emergencies, fire trucks and ambulances need to be able to maneuver through the neighborhood quickly. Residents can help by parking in garages and driveways.

If you or your lawn service currently bag grass clippings, simply leaving the clippings to work down into the lawn will make a huge difference in the amount of waste our community puts into the landfill each year. It will also help conserve water, because the clippings will work to maintain moisture in the soil. Both of these benefits will save money in the long-run. Moreover, it is estimated that lawns that are naturally fertilized with grass clippings require 25% less fertilizer - resulting in even more savings to you! Grass clippings and finely chopped leaves add vital nutrients and organic matter to the lawn, thus improving the health of the lawn. Dogs left alone all day get lonely, bored and restless. Many find relief in barking. Some respond noisily to any and all activity. Nothing is as annoying as incessant barking-even for dog lovers. If your dog is a yapper or a yowler, please consider some of these bark-abatement ideas to keep the noise down in your area. Your neighbors will thank you! • Training. Always the first recommendation for any behavioral problem! Training not only helps your dog, you’ll be surprised how much it helps you, too. You may get some insight into why your dog barks so much, or what it is trying to communicate. • Citronella collars. A humane alternative to the electricshock, anti-barking collar and costs about the same. • Confinement. Sometimes simply bringing an outspoken dog indoors or confining it to a crate cuts down on the disturbance to neighbors. • For inside dogs, reduce stimulus. Close drapes to help muffle street noise, or leave a radio on to mask it. • Companionship. Dogs are pack animals; they need companionship-a cat, bird or another dog. Animal control authorities are permitted to enter your Property to patrol and remove pets. Pets must be registered, licensed and inoculated as required by law. As a dog owner, you are responsible for the control of your dog. If your dog is one that ‘makes objectionable noise,’ you must make every effort to respect your Neighbor’s right to their ‘peace and quiet.’ When your dog is not in your yard, it is imperative that you keep your dog on a leash at all times. While your dog is friendly to you and your family, imagine the consequences if it were to harm someone while it was ‘roaming free.’ Please respect other resident’s right to walk the common area ground without fear of attack from an unleashed dog. Laws are written to ensure that owned animals are confined to their property or kept on a leash to free a community of unrestrained and free-roaming animals. Although most dog bites occur on the property where the dog lives, unrestrained or free-roaming dogs do pose a substantial threat to the public. In addition, unrestrained animals are at increased risk of being bitten by rabies infected wildlife. Enforcement of restraint laws is essential in enhancing the animal control program’s efforts to reduce the risk of rabies in our community. LICENSING OF DOGS AND CATS The primary benefit of licensing animals is identification, should that animal become lost. Licensing also: • Ensures that rabies vaccination are current. • Allows for quick identification in case of a bite incident. • Provides revenue to offset the administration costs of the animal control program. VACCINATION Rabies vaccinations are a prerequisite for licensing dogs and cats because they are an important control measure for the public health threat of rabies. In addition to protecting pets, rabies vaccinations provide a barrier between infected wild animals and humans.

GARDENING TIPS FOR NOVEMBER
• Brown patch will continue to plague St. Augustine lawns as nights get cooler and humidity and rain continue. Discolored circles will appear in low areas almost overnight. Apply a fungicide recommended for brown patch according to label directions. Avoid walking through brown-patched turf. It spreads easily from the bottom of your shoes. If brown patch appears in the same lawn areas every year, add an inch or two of sandy topsoil to eliminate those low spots. • Fertilize St. Augustine turf with a winterizing formula to promote root growth over the winter months. Lower your lawn mover blades now and mow on a schedule that cuts no more than one-third of the grass blade away. • As chrysanthemums and other perennials finish blooming, cut flowering stalks to the ground to permit all strength to be used in making root growth. • Feed roses lightly, but avoid nitrogen fertilizers. Do not prune now. Keep up spraying program and water deeply. • Remove dead foliage and plant debris to help eradicate insects and disease organisms. Thin out and transfer volunteer seedlings. Beds made now will benefit by weathering

before being planted. If soil is heavy, dig six inches deep, leave rough, cover with gymsum and strawy manure, water and allow to mellow. • Bananas are more likely to bear fruit if the trunk does not die back in winter. Cut banana stalks back to six feet, wrap with newspaper and burlap. • Continue mulching for winter. Build up a thick top mulch to protect roots from freezing and winter drying. Don’t throw away those pine tree needles; they make great acidic mulch for azaleas, gardenias and next Spring’s impatiens. • Place pansies in beds after weather has cooled. Use a little blood meat mixed in soil under each plant. • Now is the best time to plant trees and shrubs.

KATY ELKS SOCCER SHOOT BOASTS SIBLING WINNERS Saturday, September 14th was a very exciting day for sibling winners in the Katy Elks Lodge Soccer Shoot. Winning first place in the 7 and Under girls category was Kendall Grimes. This was her second Soccer Shoot win, as she did the same two years ago at age 5. Kendall’s brother won the 7 and Under boys division. This was his first outing as a contestant shooter. Both became eligible to compete at the district competition being held at Clear Lake Elks Lodge in September. Winners at district will advance to the State finals at the Elks Children’s Services Center at Ottine, between Lulling and Gonzales in October. The Soccer Shoot involves shooting three balls (after one warm-up shot) at five different sized goals from a set distance. Points are then awarded for each successful shot with increasing points awarded as the goals become smaller and more difficult.
GULF COAST DISTRICT ELKS ASSIST IN HOUSTON ANNUAL VETERANS’ STAND DOWN The rains of Friday, September 20, 2013 could not put a damper on the activities of the Houston Veterans Affairs sponsored Stand Down at Emancipation Park in Houston. As is the practice each year, the Gulf Coast District Elks lodges participate by supplying and serving meals to all the homeless Veterans who come to the park for the event, as well as volunteers there to help. Approximately 300-350 people were served a noon meal.

Some of the services offered to homeless Veterans on this day include medical exams, job advice, gifts of backpacks or other supplies, legal advice and of course, a barbeque lunch and sack lunches to take away for later provided by area Elks. Elks from three of the area lodges were present on Friday to serve the food and provide an encouraging smile to those who greatly needed it. Clear Lake, Houston and Katy Elks lodges were represented at the Stand Down. Prior preparation of the meat and purchasing of supplies needed was handled by members of the Houston Elks Lodge, with their Auxiliary preparing sandwiches for the sack lunches. The motto: “Elks Care - Elks Share” was quite apparent. Although this day may help some of the immediate needs of those Veterans who need us most, for many it can become the beginning of the road to independence and self-support through a number of the services provided on this important day each year. Some assistance is available for rent, employment and job finding in addition to the above-mentioned medical and legal assistance.

It is projected that there will be no tax rate increase from the current rate of $.40 with the $99 million authorization. The authorization of the bond referendum by voters would fund the building of three new Student Activity Facilities:

The new homepage is the culmination of a yearlong initiative to gather feedback and direction from parents, staff and other Katy stakeholders about how the District’s website could better serve our community’s needs. What emerged is a clean design, consistent and improved navigation, an upgrade to the technology that supports the site and quick acess to our most frequently visited District-wide webpages.

14,000 Seat Stadium - $69.5 million A second stadium will address scheduling issues that will become increasingly difficult as future high schools are opened. Six Katy ISD high schools currently participate in varsity football, soccer and marching contests at Rhodes Stadium. With the opening of Tompkins High School, Katy ISD will schedule seven varsity football teams into Rhodes Stadium beginning n August of 2014. Scheduling seven schools in Rhodes Stadium will create a challenge for the District to comply with the U.I.L. 5-day rule.

THE TEXAS MASTER NATURALISTS COASTAL PRAIRIE CHAPTER CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT The Texas Master Naturalist Coastal Prairie Chapter is please to host Bob Honig as the speaker for our monthly program. The topic for the September program is the “Christmas Bird Count” program. As an added bonus, Bob will also entertain any questions attendees may have with regard to butterfly counts. Bob is an environmental consultant who serves as a board member and volunteer for the Katy Prairie Conservancy. RUOK PROGRAM Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Dept. has a computer-generated program called “Are You OK?” (RUOK). It is a computer-generated call intended for senior citizens (over 55) and disabled persons who live alone and could benefit from a daily check. A computer will generate a call each morning, at about the same time and the participant chooses a time frame. A voice will ask, “Are you OK?” After this, all they have to do is hang up the phone. If the participant goes out of town or leaves the residence for any time, you just temporarily un-subscribe and re-subscribe when you return. If the call goes unanswered, the computer will call back 3 times at 15-minute intervals. If there is still no answer, the Sheriff will dispatch a deputy or the local police. They will have with them a print out of information on the person that is
