BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS

The monthly Board of Directors meeting for Williamsburg Colony generally are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM, at the clubhouse located at 2315 John Crump. Anyone that would like to attend a meeting and address the Board should contact PCMI’s office 281-870-0585, at least a week prior to the meeting so that you can be included on the agenda. WCMA

Remember to keep all cars and trucks locked and windows rolled up. Call on any suspicious persons or vehicles. We need everyone’s help here. Please call the Constables at 281-463-6666.

PARK USE

Park hours have been posted. Park hours are 8 AM to 8 PM. Also, those wishing to play baseball in the park or street, please be careful. Any damage done to resident’s property is the responsibility of those parents of the children that cause it. Also it has been brought to the Board’s attention that use of foul language and trouble at the park must stop. If Constables report such behavior, individuals may become barred from park/pool area. Let’s all have fun and play nice. Older kids watch out for little ears nearby. Remember, $250 reward to anyone who provides information about damage or vandalism to the park. This reward will be paid and no one will ever know who reported such damage.

STREET LIGHTS

Your Association pays for your streetlights from your annual dues, whether they work or not. If a light is out in your area, please call 713-207-2222 and report it. Each light pole should have a number on it. When reporting the out or malfunctioning light, give them the pole number and closest street address. We want all of our lights to work. A lighted area is a safer area.

ABANDONED OR OVERGROWN PROPERTY

Do you live next door or near someone who has abandoned or left a house vacant? Has the grass grown two or more feet high? Are there rodents and snakes coming from their backyards? Would you like to get the property cleaned up? Can you see over the back fence from your property? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you are the one who needs to make the first move in getting this matter resolved. Williamsburg Colony Maintenance Association cannot call the Harris County Health Department at 713-4396270, since we can only report on property adjacent to the front entrance and the Pool/ Clubhouse areas. We need someone who will give permission for the Health Department to come on their property to view violations of neighbors. So please, help us get rid of dangerous conditions in our subdivision.

MINUTES OF THE WILLIAMSBURG COLONY MAINTENANCE ASSOCIATION, INC. BOARD OF DIRECTORS

AUGUST 14, 2013 A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Williamsburg Colony Maintenance Association was held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at 5:00 PM, at the community clubhouse, pursuant to Notice attached as Exhibit “A.”

Directors in attendance were Chad Ray, John Eberlan and Ken Rychlik. Also in attendance was Dolores Sue representing Planned Community Management, Inc. (PCMI). With a quorum present the meeting was called to order at 5:30 PM. EXECUTIVE SESSION The Board held their executive session to meet with the pool contractor Sweetwater Pools. The Board reviewed requests from two owners regarding delinquencies. The Board reviewed all deed restriction violations. At 6:00 PM, the Board adjourned to open forum. There were two homeowners present. MINUTES The minutes of the meeting held on July 10, 2013, were reviewed and approved as written. Minutes attached as Exhibit “B.” FINANCIAL Ken Rychlik presented the financial statement as of July 31, 2013. The money in the bank totaled $441,111.55. This includes checking and money market accounts and is the money to cover both operating and reserve expenses. Financials attached as Exhibit “C.”

DECISIONS MADE DURING EXECUTIVE SESSION The Board held a meeting with the pool contractor Sweetwater Pools. Currently, with all the staff changes that have been made, the pool is operating more smoothly.

The Board reviewed deed restrictions violations. There were two-hundred eighty-even (287) violations noted for the month of July, 2013. There were eighteen (18) 10-day demands for mowing and edging and only five (5) had to be force mowed. With the increase of residents not maintaining their lawns, the Board discussed increasing force mow fees by charging the homeowners not to exceed $200 per force mow. The Association is unwavering on residents maintaining their lawns and abiding by the restrictions of the community.

The Board instructed PCMI to send one (1) deed restriction violation account to the Association attorney for legal action. OLD BUSINESS PROPOSAL ON CEILING FAN REPLACEMENT FOR UPSTAIRS CLUB ROOM The Board reviewed a proposal for replacement of four (4) ceiling fans for the club room located upstairs. The proposal was for 52” diameter, 3-speed, reversible fans to be installed flush for a cost of $996.75. This price allows for the fans to be no more than $75 per fan. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously agreed to accept the proposal.

PROPOSAL FOR PAINTING OF FRONT DOORS AT CLUBHOUSE The Board reviewed a proposal for the painting of the front doors at the clubhouse. This proposal was for sanding doors, apply sanding sealer, prime door with one-day dry time, paint doors to match trim color of building and clean the job site for a price of $350. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously agreed to accept the proposal.

PROPOSAL OF WINDOW REPLACEMENT IN CLUBHOUSE The Board reviewed a proposal for replacement of ten (10) windows in the clubhouse. This work was to remove existing windows and dispose of old ones, provide and install ten (10) aluminum frame, single-hung (vertical sliding) window and screens install windows with heavy duty bronze or white finish, thermal break frame and double pane glass and clean job site daily for a price of $4,103.63. The Board instructed PCMI to obtain a quote for the double-pane but vinyl frames, not aluminum. Also, obtain one more quote from a window covering company.

CURFEW REMINDER

We would like to remind residents that being in Harris County means those under the age of 18 must not be roaming the streets after midnight. Any children spotted after midnight should be reported to the Constables at 281-463-6666. Most of the trouble we have in the subdivision that is attributed to mischievous minors occurs after the curfew. Once park hours are posted, anyone in the park after hours will be charged with trespassing.

GARAGE SALE SIGNS

To all Williamsburg Colony residents, garage sales are great, we can increase our attic and closet space, locate things we forgot that we had and most important, make a few extra bucks. The one thing that is sometimes forgotten is the placement and removal of our garage sale signs. So please neighbors, if and when you have a garage sale, let’s try and remember not to place garage sale signs on any of our community signs or poles. Also, remove signs that are staked when your garage sale is complete. Cleaner streets do make a difference.

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question. 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle. 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

RECIPES SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE III

INGREDIENTS: 2 pounds mashed sweet potatoes 2 eggs 1 1/2 cups white sugar 1/4 cup butter 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk 1 cup crushed cornflakes cereal 1/2 cup chopped pecans 1/4 cup butter 2 tablespoons brown sugar DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray one 2-quart casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray. Combine the sweet potatoes, white sugar, 1/4 cup of the butter or margarine and the milk. Mix until well blended. Spoon sweet potato mixture into the prepare casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 15 minutes. Combine the crushed cornflakes, pecans, remaining 1/4 cup butter or margarine, and brown sugar to taste. • Californians are the largest consumers of turkey in the United States. • When the Pilgrims arrived in North America, the clothing of the Native Americans was made of animal skins (mainly deer skin). • On December 11, 1620 the first Pilgrims (or Puritans, as they were initially known) landed at Plymouth Rock. • By the fall of 1621 only half of the pilgrims, who had sailed on the Mayflower, survived. The survivors, thankful to be alive, decided to give a thanksgiving feast.

GARDENING TIPS FOR NOVEMBER

• Brown patch will continue to plague St. Augustine lawns as nights get cooler and humidity and rain continue. Discolored circles will appear in low areas almost overnight. Apply a fungicide recommended for brown patch according to label directions. Avoid walking through brown-patched turf. It spreads easily from the bottom of your shoes. If brown patch appears in the same lawn areas every year, add an inch or two of sandy topsoil to eliminate those low spots. • Fertilize St. Augustine turf with a winterizing formula to promote root growth over the winter months. Lower your lawn mover blades now and mow on a schedule that cuts no more than one-third of the grass blade away. • As chrysanthemums and other perennials finish blooming, cut flowering stalks to the ground to permit all strength to be used in making root growth. • Feed roses lightly, but avoid nitrogen fertilizers. Do not prune now. Keep up spraying program and water deeply.

• Remove dead foliage and plant debris to help eradicate insects and disease organisms. Thin out and transfer volunteer seedlings. Beds made now will benefit by weathering before being planted. If soil is heavy, dig six inches deep, leave rough, cover with gymsum and strawy manure, water and allow to mellow. • Bananas are more likely to bear fruit if the trunk does not die back in winter. Cut banana stalks back to six feet, wrap with newspaper and burlap. • Continue mulching for winter. Build up a thick top mulch to protect roots from freezing and winter drying. Don’t throw away those pine tree needles; they make great acidic mulch for azaleas, gardenias and next Spring’s impatiens. • Place pansies in beds after weather has cooled. Use a little blood meat mixed in soil under each plant. • Now is the best time to plant trees and shrubs.

What do you do with your leftover paint, household cleaners and yard products? You bring them to the Harris County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Facility located at 6900 Hahl Road, located on the NW corner of Gessner and 290. The facility accepts items used in your home that include, but are not limited to, paint and paint related products, household cleaners, yard and automotive products, pool chemicals, batteries, propane cylinders and items that contain mercury. The facility is open to the public for collections on Wednesdays from 9 AM - 3 PM and the second Saturday of the month from 9 AM - 2 PM. Collections on the fourth Saturdays vary in location and hours. Agricultural Sciences Center - $25 million The District has outgrown the current L.D. Robinson Pavilion and room for growth or expanded instructional opportunities is limited. Developing an Agricultural Sciences Center at the current Gerald D. Young facility on Katy-Hockley Road will address student safety and convenience; reduce animal safety risk caused by travel; address the negative impact on Katy HS and Leonard Merrell Center operations and allow for strategic investment in a long-term solution. STEM Project Center - $4.5 million The STEM Project Center will provide additional classroom and project space for students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses and activities. It will provide increased space for students to conduct large-scale experiments such as robotics and would lend itself to a variety of engineering projects such as boats, catapults and chip manufacturing. Physics teachers would also have the ability to video a large-scale demonstration at the S.T.E.M. Center while students are viewing from their classroom. 14,000 Seat Stadium - $69.5 million A second stadium will address scheduling issues that will become increasingly difficult as future high schools are opened. Six Katy ISD high schools currently participate in varsity football, soccer and marching contests at Rhodes Stadium. With the opening of Tompkins High School, Katy ISD will schedule seven varsity football teams into Rhodes Stadium beginning in August of 2014. Scheduling seven schools in Rhodes Stadium will create a challenge for the District to comply with the U.I.L. 5-day rule. Katy ISD is proud to announce the launch of its new website homepage and the gradual transition of department and campus websites over the course of the fall semester. The new homepage is the culmination of a yearlong initiative to gather feedback and direction from parents, staff and other Katy stakeholders about how the District’s website could better serve our community’s needs. What emerged is a clean design, consistent and improved navigation, an upgrade to the technology that supports the site and quick acess to our most frequently visited District-wide webpages. Department pages and campus websites will be transitioned to the new homepage format during the fall semester. In the meantime, some department pages and all campus websites will be temporarily linked to the older version of the District’s website. CenterPoint Energy understands that the responsible planting of trees is a way to care for our environment and beautify our community, yet we are also committed to the safe and reliable delivery of electricity. Our professional tree pruning program is integrated into our daily operations to help make this possible. Trees that grow close to CenterPoint Energy’s electrical poles and lines will be pruned by a professional tree trimming company under contract with CenterPoint Energy. Any vegetation greater than 10 feet in height will be removed from high-voltage transmission line rights-of-way. Palm trees growing near power lines create unique issues. Unlike other trees, palms grow in a straight, vertical line, with a single growing point at the top of the tree. Because of this single-growth point, normal pruning techniques are not effective. With most trees, crews are able to direct the growth away from power lines using proper pruning techniques, but growth of palm trees cannot be redirected. If you choose to include palm trees in your landscape, CenterPoint Energy recommends a planting distance of 20 - 40 feet to reduce the risk of windblown fronds contacting power lines. Consumers should plant palm trees far enough away from power lines that no part of the tree ever grows within 10 feet of the line.
