2012 ANNUAL MEETING UPDATE

The Association was unable to meet the membership quorum requirements of 10% at the original annual meeting called on February 28, 2012. Pursuant to legislative changes to the Texas Property Code adopted in 2011, a homeowners association must have a formal election of directors each year, thus requiring we re-call the election of directors until such time as we meet the 10% quorum. In an effort to avoid costly expenditures by re-calling the entire meeting, the Association is exercising its right to perform an online election. There are two (2) positions available for election to the following terms: three (3) year terms. We are now accepting nominees for the online election through April 30, 2012. Only owners are allowed to seek election to the Board and any owner may certainly nominate themselves. Please contact management if you would like to be nominated or if you would like to nominate another homeowner. Please be advised that management will be administering the online election and monitoring the results to ensure fairness and accordance with new legislative requirements. The online voting will have security features only allowing one vote per unit. The current Board of Directors and election nominees will not have access to the election results or voting administration. All of the specifics of the voting process will be provided to the membership upon opening of the online voting, as well as information regarding all candidates. Watch the website and your email for more information to follow. Please feel free to contact management with any questions or additional information needed at 1-866-842-4645, ext. 3161 or email sherri@highsierramanagement.com

EXTERIOR CHANGES OR IMPROVEMENTS TO YOUR HOME

We want to take this opportunity to remind all of you that any change or addition to the exterior of your home must be applied for an approved by the Association prior to proceeding. Regular maintenance such as replacing fence pickets, touching up paint, etc. do not require approval. But projects such as painting the entire house, replacing the roof, installing decorative items like flagpoles or birdbaths, etc. do require approval. Please contact management to inquire about your specific project if you have any questions just to be on the safe side. You can find the Home Improvement Guidelines and the application on the website for your convenience and review.

INTERIOR ELECTRICAL INSPECTIONS

One of the community’s recent preventative maintenance projects has been to have all exterior common area electrical breakers and wiring inspected for needed repairs and maintenance to prevent outages or electrical fires. With all the news reports on television of house fires recently, we want to take this opportunity to remind each of you how important the need for regular inspection and maintenance of your interior electrical wiring and breakers. There are many reputable electrical contractors that are willing to perform free interior breaker inspections so look on the internet or in the newspaper for information being publicized. Remember not to overload a circuit by plugging in too many electrical items in one outlet! Important information to consider when selecting your own provider is to request a copy of their current State licensing and insurance certificate.

Please, be aware and make a conscious effort to the adhere to the following guidelines: • Only two pets per household - refer to governing documents regarding height and weight limits. • Pick up pet waste and discard properly. • Do not allow pets to roam around the community unrestrained - it’s the law! This includes cats too! • Do not allow dogs to bark continuously disturbing neighbors.

RECIPES Garlic Prime Rib

MAY……DID YOU KNOW?

DIRECTIONS: Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C). Place the roast in a roasting pan with the fatty side up. In a small bowl, mix together the garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper and thyme. Spread the mixture over the fatty layer of the roast and let the roast sit out until it is at room temperature, no longer than 1 hour. Bake the roast for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce the temperature to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C), and continue roasting for an additional 60 to 75 minutes. The internal temperature of the roast should be at 145 degrees F (53 degrees C) for medium rare. Allow the roast to rest for 10 or 15 minutes before carving so the meat can retain its juices.

THE HISTORY OF MOTHER’S DAY

The first North American Mother’s Day was conceptualized with Julia Ward Howe’s Mother’s Day Proclamation in 1870. Despite having penned The Battle Hymn of the Republic 12 years earlier, Howe had become so distraught by the death and carnage of the Civil War that she called on Mother’s to come together and protest what she saw as the futility of their Sons killing the Sons of other Mothers. She called for an international Mother’s Day celebrating peace and motherhood. At one point Jarvis even proposed converting July 4th into Mother’s Day, in order to dedicate the nation’s anniversary to peace. Eventually, however, June 2nd was designated for the celebration. In 1873 women’s groups in 18 North American cities observed this new Mother’s holiday. Howe initially funded many of these celebrations, but most of them died out once she stopped footing the bill. Despite the decided failure of her holiday, Howe had nevertheless planted the seed that would blossom into what we know as Mother’s Day today. When the United States congress approved Mother’s Day in 1914, they designated it for the second Sunday in May and required that the President proclaim the Holiday every year shortly prior to its commencement. • The National Retail Foundation predicts Mother’s Day is a $14 Billion business • Florists see their highest sales in May. • US restaurants claim that it is the busiest day of the year. • Long distance telephone calls also peak on this day. • The US Postal Service experiences increased volume during the surrounding days.

Aberdeen Green

• According to Hallmark, 96% of American consumers take part in shopping on Mother’s Day, while retailers report it as the second highest gift-giving day of the year behind Christmas.

A MOTHER’S LOVE

A Mother’s love is something that no on can explain, It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain, It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may For nothing can destroy it or take that love away . . . It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, and it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking . . It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns, And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems . . It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation, And it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation . . . A many splendoured miracle man cannot understand And another wondrous evidence of God’s tender guiding hand.

Propane Tank Safety: • Never leave a tank inside a vehicle. • Never attempt to fill the propane tank yourself - have your tank filled only by trained professionals. • Never attempt to repair your propane tank. Contact a propane dealer for repair or replacement needs. • When transporting, always secure the tank in the upright position on the floor of the back seat. “I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through May. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

FundRaising Event Baby Bottle Blessings 2012

Pregnancy Help Center of West Houston is excited to announce that we will be starting up our Baby Bottle Blessings fundraising event. The event will run from Mother’s Day (5/13/2012) thru Father’s Day (6/17/2012). Local residents pick up Baby Bottles at their home church and fill them with change, bills and checks during the month long event. This event spotlights the extensive resources that Pregnancy Help Center provides to residents of 3 counties who are faced with circumstances surrounding a present, potential or former pregnancy. Pregnancy Test, Peer Counseling, classes for Moms and Dads, as well as limited ultrasound, and help with maternity clothing and baby items are just some of the services that the Center provides to their clients. Anyone interested in participating should contact the center at 281578-0078, please ask for Lisa. If you happen to have a bottle out from 2011, please know that Father’s Day would be a great time to add to it and return it to Pregnancy Help Center. We would like to extend our thanks, in advance, to our life saving churches, their parishioners and congregations for their gifts. Thank you for treasuring life thru the gifts of your treasure.

Award Winning HFAC Actors Academy presents Les Misérables School Edition at the Berry Center

Pastries • Clothing • Gifts Organic Treats & Accessories

The award-winning Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC) Actors Academy is proud to present the school edition of the 8-time Tony award winning musical Les Misérables performed entirely by students! This compelling musical voyage into post-revolutionary France opened on Saturday, May 5th at the Berry Center 8877 Barker Cypress Rd, Cypress, TX 77433 and has 8 performances through Sunday, May 13th. The epic story presented in Les Misérables School Edition is a great way to introduce children to the magic of musical theatre. Broadway’s legendary musical, originally adapted from Victor Hugo’s timeless novel, has been specially adapted to meet the needs of young performers. Relentless in its musical drive, Les Misérables School Edition is filled with powerful imagery of darkness and light, highlighting, throughout its dramatic action, the struggle inherent in the human condition and the indomitability of the spirit, despite great suffering. Set in 19th century France, this classic and poignant musical, tells the story of Jean Valjean, a strong-hearted man jailed for stealing a loaf of bread. As he struggles to make a new life for himself given his new found freedom, he must grapple with questions of faith, fatherhood and allegiance to the law. PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE Performance Location: The Berry Center 8877 Barker Cypress Rd, Cypress, TX 77433 (easily accessible from 290 and I-10). HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW & RODEO™ COOKS UP HOUSTON’S HOT SUMMER BREAK™ BENEFITS ANNUAL EVENT

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo today announced the launch of a new summer festival, benefiting the Show and allowing Houstonians an enjoyable, refreshing and entertaining break from the city’s summer heat. Houston’s Hot Summer Break, July 4-8, 2012, is an all day, five-day music, food, beer, wine and spirits festival, featuring top chefs and mixologists, shopping, and live music. Held completely inside Reliant Center, the summer event includes cooking demonstrations, a beer brewing competition, wine and liquor seminars and the search for Houston’s best cocktail, margarita and martini. Patrons also can explore both floors of Reliant Center to listen and dance to live concerts featuring country, blues and jazz music, along with disc jockeys playing a mix of club music. “We are thrilled to announce the development of Houston’s Hot Summer Break,” said Skip Wagner, president of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. “Houstonians love to celebrate and this festival offers them a really cool way to do so. We look forward to making it one of the best and most successful events of its kind, offering attendees the ability to get away without going away!” Another highlight of the event, a restaurant-style café, will allow attendees the opportunity to sit and enjoy creations from several Houston-area restaurants, cafés and diners, including a wine bar and coffee shop. Net proceeds generated from Houston’s Hot Summer Break will directly benefit the mission of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a Section 501(c)(3) charity that benefits youth, supports education, and facilitates better agricultural practices through exhibitions and presentation. Since its beginning in 1932, the Show has committed approximately $283 million to the youth of Texas.
