The direct link to the Vacation Watch submittal is www. harriscountytx.gov/vacationwatch/vacation.aspx?constid=5.

TENNIS COURT USE

We have received reports that children have been using the tennis courts for everything but tennis. Please reiterate to your children that use of the courts is for tennis play ONLY. No soccer, rollerblading, skateboarding, bike riding, basketball, etc. allowed. Children caught abusing the courts may cause their parents to be financial penalized for any damages.

THE CITY OF HOUSTON URGES RESIDENTS TO SIGN UP FOR EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS

The City of Houston, in partnership with the Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network, is now offering emergency notifications to mobile phones through the Emergency Notification System (ENS). These emergency alerts will help residents get more information about emergencies in their neighborhoods, such as hazardous chemical spills, floods and large fires. Staying informed is an important way of keeping yourself and your family safe when emergencies occur. Landline home or work telephones are already a part of the ENS system and now residents can register their cell or internet phone numbers so they can be alerted about an emergency in their community. It’s simple and easy; sign-up at the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management website http://alert.houstonoem.org or http://911.org and register up to four telephone numbers. Houstonians can also register for ‘Alert Houston,’ the City of Houston’s Email Notification System, which sends emails to residents when emergencies affecting a large portion of the city occur, such as severe weather and hurricanes. Find out more about both AlertHouston and ENS by visiting http://alert.houstonoem.org.

RECREATION VEHICLES AND TRAILERS

We have been receiving numerous reports about all terrain vehicles being ridden along the drainage ditch areas and power line easements. As a reminder, this is private property and we have instructed the Constable Patrol to monitor the areas and write citations for trespassing, as well as deterring safety hazards. We have also noticed personal utility trailers being parked behind fences along the drainage ditch and will be collecting license plate information to determine ownership for violation notices from the Association, as well as the Constable Patrol issuing citations for trespassing on private property. Towing of the trailers could be an end result as well.

HOW DO WE LOOK?

Curb appeal has a big impact on your property value, even if your home is not for sale. Buyers evaluate the neighborhood, not just one house. Stand back from your house and take a close look to see if it needs a mini-makeover. Think about security as well. Has your shrubbery become overgrown, covering windows or blocking the sidewalk? Do low-hanging limbs obscure the front? Does the lawn have brown areas or weeds? Is the siding mildewed or paint peeling? You may want to ask a friend’s opinion; it is easy to overlook things we see everyday. Make plans now to spruce up. Cars that are parked in the street are also a turn-off to buyers. Make the extra effort to keep cars in the driveway. It looks better and is safer for your neighbors and your car.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through August. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

CHIROPRACTIC HEALTH and WELLNESS CENTER COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL

Girl Scouts in Copper Creek Meadows Community have been having a great time at San Jacinto Council’s resident, day and twilight camps! Camp is a wonderful place to meet new friends and share Girl Scout traditions. Sailing at Camp Casa Mare, canoeing and swimming at Camp Agnes Arnold and horseback riding at Camp Misty Meadows are only some of the camp experiences girls in our Council can enjoy. “I can’t wait to get back” was one comment from a first time camper. Many of the day and twilight camps this year had a “safari” theme and might have included survival skills, archery, swimming, a cookout and maybe even a sleepover! Camp wouldn’t be camp without songs, crafts and games and special snacks like s’mores and banana boats! Soon it will be time for us to start anew Girl Scout year and also to welcome new Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place- and we have been doing it for over 100 years! Many things have changed since 1912 - Girl Scouts today are more likely to be building robots than ironing hair ribbons! - but our core values are strong and enduring. Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 17 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scout programs are geared to their particular age levels and interests. Don’t forget that many of our most exciting opportunities are available to older girls! Girls may join at any level and no previous Scouting experience is required. Older girls whose schedules do not allow for participation in a troop or group may still want to participate as “Juliettes” (individual Girl Scouts). We have many special interest groups for activities such as backpacking, archery, horseback riding and sailing. Our Council also has several choirs and a dance group, the Green Starlettes. San Jacinto Council also offers special programs and events and so does Area 4 (the portion of the Council, which includes Copper Creek Meadows Community).

August 2015

Copper Creek Meadows Community serves girls in the residential areas for the elementary schools listed below and the corresponding middle and high schools. Home schooled and private school students are always welcome! Our elementary schools are Lieder, Metcalf, Wilson, Tipps, Texas Christian School, Birkes, Fiest, Lowery, Horne, Hairgrove, Owens, Kirk, Lee, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Christian Life Center. For information on the Girl Scout program, check out the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council website (www.gssjc.org) or call 713-292-0300. For information on Copper Creek Meadows Community, contact Marlo Folwell-713-854-9426 or email marlo.folwell@c-a-m.com. Please be on the lookout for information on Girl Scout Rally nights (when we recruit new leaders and form new troops) and registration at area schools. The San Jacinto Council website should also have information. We are ALWAYS looking for adults to be troop leaders and volunteers. You don’t have to be Superwoman or Ranger Rick - you don’t even have to have children! You do have to be interested in working with girls, pass a background check and go through some training. Lots more training is available, but you only need a little to get started. We also need people with skills and special interests who might be willing to share them with your young neighbors. Sometimes we just need people who are willing to be there and decorate the cafeteria, hand out programs, make popcorn or measure the standing broad jump! We’d love to talk to you about volunteering!

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high selfesteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). FOSTER CHILDREN: PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING (PAL)

When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent. That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month. Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by local businesses. Want to help with PAL or other NCJW programs that help change lives with hands-on community service? Contact info@ncjwhouston.org or see www.ncjwhouston.org.

LOVING ARMS PET PACEMENT ANIMAL FOSTERS NEEDED

DREAM Dachshund Rescue, Education & Adoption Mission is a Houstonbased 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing abandoned Dachshunds and finding new homes for Dachshunds whose owners can no longer care for them. Our committed volunteers, working closely with local veterinarians, provide our Dachshunds with quality medical care and loving foster homes until they are adopted into carefully screened, forever homes.

Summer is here, children are out of school. What better time to get involved with a rescue group and help a dog or cat in need? That’s what fostering an animal is all about. Fostering is an important step in the transition from shelter/street to “happy ever after.” Loving Arms Pet Placement is a fosterbased rescue for dogs and cats and is always in need of foster families.

DREAM is currently looking for caring volunteers to provide temporary foster care for our many rescued Dachshunds-in-need, currently awaiting adoption. Prior to their adoption, DREAM continues to pay for all medical care and monthly heart worm prevention. There is no long-term commitment required. Food, water, shelter and a soft place to rest is all you need to provide. The “love” just comes naturally.

While fostering can be challenging, knowing you helped an animal when it most needed shelter and security and helped it find its forever home will give you endless joy. Tell Loving Arms Pet Placement rescue in what capacity you can help. Can your home only accommodate small animals or can you foster big dogs? Can you handle puppies and kittens or only mature animals? Can you take more than one animal at once?

If you have a little room in your heart and in your home (and your family pets are up-to-date on their vaccines and monthly heart worm preventative), then you are who we are looking for! There is no feeling in the world like the unconditional love you’ll receive from a rescued Dachshund, plus the friendships you’ll make when you join the DREAM Team! The more foster homes we have, the more Dachshunds we can save. Please help save a life and consider fostering today! Questions? Please send us an email to: Contact-Us@DreamDachs.org and a volunteer will respond to you right away with all the information you need! Ready to Foster? Please visit our website at: www.dreamdachs.org and click on the FOSTER tab to fill out our online Foster Application.

PETS

Talkative cat looking for a loving home! Benjamin is a shorthaired brown tabby cat, whose human mom recently died. He’s about 3 years old, he likes to sleep with his humans at night and he loves attention. Benjamin is pretty shy and gets easily startled, but he likes to go outside for a bit, as long as he can run right back in at the first sign of danger! He would do best in a quiet household because of his dislike of loud or sudden noises and he would love to be an only cat. Benjamin is up-to-date on rabies & flea treatment, litter-box trained and neutered. Contact 281-250-3266 to arrange a meeting.
