Please call HPCA OFFICE at 281-463-1216 to reach a board member.

PURPOSE OF HUNTER’S PARK COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION Hunter’s Park Community Association handles the financial and legal affairs of the subdivision. Each lot owner is required to pay an annual maintenance fee which is used to pay street lights; pay taxes on and maintain the common areas, such as the swimming pools, tennis courts, etc.; pay for security; and pay legal expenses incurred to enforce the deed restrictions. The Board meets every month at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the community building. Residents are welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to place an item on the agenda should call the HPCA office in advance. The Annual Meeting of Members is held on the 4th Thursday of January. Members hold three year staggered terms and are elected. The election process is as follows: 1) Mail in ballots will be mailed out with the Annual Maintenance fee statements. 2) Voting in person will begin on the 1st Monday after the Annual Meeting ending on the following Saturday at 7pm.

HPCA Office

Office Phone: 281 463-1216 Office Hrs: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Mon- Fri. Closed Weekends and Major Holidays HPCA employs two workers to provide coverage for the office. Every effort is made to have one of the two employees in the office at all times. Occasionally business of the association may require us to be out of the office for a short period of time. If we are out of the office when you call or if you call after hours, please leave a message on the answering machine and your calls will be returned as soon as possible during office hours.

NEW RESIDENTS The HPCA office has a new resident package available at the office or by mail. Please call 281 463-1216 and we will be happy to send the information to you! DEED RESTRICTIONS Deed restrictions are strictly enforced by Hunter’s Park Community Association. Copies of the restrictions are available at the association’s office or by mail (call 281 463-1216). Complaint forms are included in every Bear Creek Newsletter for your convenience. The association’s office verifies complaints and writes letters to violators. HPCA will initiate legal action when warranted, to enforce the deed restrictions. ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL You must submit any plans for improvements or modifications of your home to the Hunter’s Park Community Association Office. Your plans will be checked to insure that they comply with the deed restrictions. This includes re-roofing, playforts (8 ft. height limit), temporary storage buildings, etc. Please call the office at 281 463-1216 if you need any additional help or assistance. SECURITY Hunter’s Park Community Association provides additional security currently through a contract with Commissioners Court for four Harris County Constables. HPCA also hires off-duty deputies on an as-needed basis for additional coverage. Please call the Constable’s Office at 281 463-6666 to report any suspicious person, activity or for vacation watch. There is a voluntary $2.00 security contribution on the M.U.D. #6 water bill that goes to each homeowner. The voluntary contributions can only be used to pay for security. This contribution enables HPCA to provide more coverage without raising maintenance fees. Judy - Security Directory - HPCA - (281) 463-1216

LEASH LAW

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.”

BARKING DOGS If you have a problem with a neighbor’s dog constantly barking, you should first contact the pet owner and make them aware of the problem. In the event that doesn’t work, you should then contact the Constables at 281463-6666 to file a complaint.

LOOSE OR LOST PETS & DOG BITES Contact Harris County Animal Control at 281-999-3191 or 3194.

While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet. Please remember that cats fall under the same laws as dogs and must be licensed and kept restrained when not on the premises of the owner. We’ve been told that spreading moth balls in flower beds might keep cats away. To make a complaint or report an animal that is not properly restrained please contact: Harris County Precinct #5, Contract #87: 281-463-6666 Harris County Animal Control: 281-999-3191 Harris County Health Department, Rabies/Animal Control Section 2223 West Loop South, Houston, Texas 77027-3588 www.countypets.com Bear Creek

• Time now to make plans for fall landscaping projects. • Clean up flowerbeds of fallen foliage, yellowed leaves and dead wood. Light green leaves may signify lack of iron (chlorosis). Correct with iron cheleates. • Cut off old dead foliage on irises. Scratch in a little bone meal around the roots. • Prune roses to reshape and groom plants for fall growth. • Wait until November to plant petunias and pansies. • Chinch bug damage is obvious now. You will have areas of thin and/or dead turf where they weren’t brought under control. There is a new generation going now. This batch causes the most damage. Use Dursban to stop the damage. • Until the weather gets back to the 80’s, St. Augustine grass grows slowly. If you fill in with sod, don’t expect a fast turnaround. The sod may look like it’s not growing while it puts down roots. You will need to water the new sod often and deeply to get it started but this also creates a disease environment. Water early so the sun can dry the turf. • Now is a good time to work new beds. Till them up, add organic material, mix it in, then let them cure for a month or so. Add in any amendments like micro-nutrients. Keep the beds moist so the microorganisms have a favorable environment.

PET HOTLINE NEWS

A very important thing you can do is have a collar with some form of ID and your phone number on it. Pet stores have special ID’s for your pets. Many pet owners are now “chipping” the pets. If found and taken to a vet they can scan chip and find the owner. If your pet has a rabies tag, the vet has your name and #. The first thing I ask a caller is “does the pet have ID on it.” If it does, I will help contact the # on the ID and get the pet to it’s owner ASAP. Or the owner can pick up their lost pet. Having an ID on a pet makes life easier for all. Marie Nugent - 281-859-1104

BACK TO SCHOOL/BACK TO ROUTINES! It’s that TIME! Get ready for back to school! August 24th will be here before you know it and for us teachers, August 10th is creeping up. How to prepare for those early morning routines? Here are some tips: • Bedtime schedules: begin winding down your day 30 minutes earlier and start going to bed on time. • Screen time: put away those mobile devices, TV, games, etc., so your eyes are getting ready for sleep. • Make a list: prepare a list of to-do’s for the next day as if it were a school day. • Lunch prep: make sack lunches as if you would for the school year. • Wakey, wakey: start waking up at the same school schedule time. • Read, read, read: 30 minutes of reading will put your children ahead of the game for the new school year!

IMPORTANT DATES August 24th - First Day of School! MESSAGE FOR PARENTS OF KATY ISD 7 TH GRADE STUDENTS Katy ISD has just been alerted by Pearson, the test contractor for STAAR exams, of a reporting error on all 7th grade Confidential Student Reports (CSR) that were sent home. In the STAAR Writing section, there are two scores reported for the writing compositions. One score for the Expository composition and one score for the Personal Narrative composition. The scores are reversed on the report you received. For example, if your child’s CSR shows 10/16 for Expository and 8/16 for Personal Narrative, your child actually scored 8/16 for Expository and 10/16 for Personal Narrative. This error does not impact your child’s overall writing score, Level II: Met Satisfactory standard or Level III: Advanced standard. Accurate CSRs will be sent home in early fall with correct composition scores and will be updated to include the new math standards when they are set. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s Principal.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through August. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA - COPPERHEAD DISTRICT For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Build self-confidence. • Provide service to others. • Reinforce ethical standards.

Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). HOUSTON FAMILY ARTS CENTER REMAINING 2015 Season

EXPLORING LIFE, LOVE & LAUGHTER The Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC) announces its 10th mainstage season, which explores life, love and laughter through timeless musicals, zany comedies, a classic murder mystery and a Shakespearean comedy. 2015 • 1776 - Closing this exciting season, July 24th - August 16th, is the American musical, 1776. This musical witness to the creation of one of the most eloquent documents in history will stir the soul of every American. All performances are on the HFAC Garza Mainstage, recently named “Houston’s Best Gem of a Theatre” by the Houston Press, except for Peter Pan, which will be performed at the Berry Center. The Drowning Girls, a modern interpretation and poetic retelling of the “Brides in the Bath” slayings in 20th century England. The work also examines the lengthy history of misogyny and domestic abuse in modern civilization. Originally produced in Canada for the Edmonton Fringe Festival, the work will debut in Houston on July 16, 2015 and will run for 12 performances through August 1, 2015. In line with MU’s mission to promote and support the work of women, the play, written by three female playwrights, illustrates how far women have come in the fight for equality in the past 100 years. BE PREPARED After what we have experienced in Houston these past two months, it is a good time to review where we are and what we need to do to protect our assets, belongings and property. First you need or I should say “must” have flood insurance no matter where you are in the Greater Houston Area. I now tell all my buyers before they have inspections to call their insurance agent to know exactly what their status of insurance, whether they are located in a flood plain or not, and how much they will need to pay for insurance. I use our in-house insurance person for a quote. He is an expert and goes to great detail in making sure you will have the right coverage. Not only do you need flood insurance, but you need proof of your furnishings, art work and personal belongings. I suggest you take pictures of each and every room in your home showing all angles. For your valuable art, take pictures of each piece individually. It would be a good idea to have valuables appraised. Make two or more copies for your records and keep them in two separate places. If you elect to place them in a bank’s safety deposit box, make sure the box is located in a high place. Unfortunately before I moved abroad, I placed my precious papers (children’s birth certificates, marriage license, etc.) in a bank’s safety deposit box, the town had a flood and guest what? Everything destroyed! Hurricane Season is coming. Do not procrastinate in doing this! Also, if you have not done so, make a folder with your important papers that you would need and want if you had to leave your premises immediately whether it be flood, fire or hurricane. Let all members of your family know where it is in case they can get to it and you can’t. I just want you to be safe and protected. If I can answer any questions or refer you to someone who is more qualified than myself, please don’t hesitate to call. Let’s hope that we always remain “high and dry” but as the Boy Scouts Motto goes, “Always Be Prepared.”

Sewell the Jewel, (Sewell Feenstra) Broker Associate - GRI (Graduate Realtor Institute) Oh, by the way…whenever you come across people who are thinking about buying or selling a home and would like the high level of service I provide, please forward their name and telephone number to me. I will gladly follow up. I appreciate your referrals. This makes my business grow and I thank you. Mobile: 713-865-6754 or 713-540-1938 Office: 713-461-6800 sewell@garygreene.com
