LEASH LAW Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question

2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet. Please remember that cats fall under the same laws as dogs and must be licensed and kept restrained when not on the premises of the owner. We’ve been told that spreading moth balls in flower beds might keep cats away. To make a complaint or report an animal that is not properly restrained please contact:

BARKING DOGS
If you have a problem with a neighbor’s dog constantly barking, you should first contact the pet owner and make them aware of the problem. In the event that doesn’t work, you should then contact the Constables at 281-463-6666 to file a complaint.

GARDEN TIPS FOR JUNE
Lawns • Apply iron sulfate or chelete to St. Augustine grass lawns. • Mow St. Augustine to a 2-inch height now to protect roots from the sun. Never cut off more than a third of the leaf. • Continue treatment of lawns for chinch bug. As the temperature hits 80 degrees, chinch bugs begin to reproduce in the hottest and driest part of the lawn, usually next to cement. Use diazinon or dursban granules. Flowers • Overwatered hibiscus, purslane and bougainvillea won’t bloom. • Keep flowers pinched off of coleus and caladiums to encourage more of the beautiful foliage. • Plants to set: Acalpha, Ageratum, Alternathera, Aspidistra, Artemisia, Balsam, Begonia, Chrysanthemum, Cockscomb, Coleus, Croton, Dusty Miller, Feverfew, Gaillardia, Geranium, Marigold, Petunia, Pinks, Portulaca, Salvia-red, Shrimp Plant, Torenia, Verbena and Vinca. Vegetables • A strong blast of water in the morning rids plants of most bugs for the rest of the day. • Vegetables to plant: Cantaloupe, Sweet Corn, Cucumber, Eggplant sets, Okra, Black Peas, Pepper Sets, Summer Squash and Sweet Potato. Shrubs • Watch Camellias and Azaleas, they’re setting their blooms now for next season. So give them a good mulch and plenty of water. Mulch well with oak leaves and/or pine needles to keep soil acidic. Bear Creek
Benefits of Mulching: Mulching (organic or inorganic) is a layer of material on the surface of the soil around the plant. Mulches conserve water by reducing evaporation, insulates the soil and protects it from the drying wind and hot sun. Mulches break the force of rain and irrigation water and tend to prevent erosion, soil compaction, and crusting. Lastly, a 2-3 inch layer of mulch will almost eliminate weed problems.

The thirteenth annual summer band camp, offered to next year’s 7th, 8th and 9th grade KISD band students, will be held at Seven Lakes High School from July 13th to July 17th. The camp will include daily section rehearsals, full band rehearsals and fun music based electives. Lunch is also part of the camp. The cost of the camp is $125 and will include a t-shirt if postmarked by June 5th. All registrations after that date will need to include a late registration fee of $25. After Thursday, July 2nd late registration must be first approved by contacting camp administration through the camp email address and if approved, all camp registration forms along with payment must be hand delivered. The camp concludes with the Grand Finale Concert on Friday morning at 9 AM. After the concert, those students wishing to extend the fun a little longer can join in the group’s optional trip to Wet ‘n’ Wild Splashtown in Spring, Texas for an additional $40 (park admission, meal, bus transportation and drinks are included in price) for a total camp cost of $165 ($190 after June 5th). The KISD JH Summer Band Camp has been a huge success each year and we anticipate a large enrollment again this year. Camp participants will audition for summer band camp placement as soon as they arrive for the first day of camp. Students should prepare major scales and chromatic scales specific to the student’s instrument, as well as a band camp audition etude. Students will be ability grouped with the number of bands being determined by total enrollment for the camp. Registration Form, Audition Materials and Medical Form and Permission to Travel are to be downloaded by campers from the Katy ISD Fine Arts Webpage, www.katyisd.org/dept/ finearts. An email confirmation is sent out upon receipt of registration and follow up reminders from the camp coordinator will be sent before the camp begins, so make sure your email address is clearly printed on the registration form. HOUSTON FAMILY ARTS CENTER REMAINING 2015 SEASON EXPLORING LIFE, LOVE & LAUGHTER
The Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC) announces its 10th mainstage season, which explores life, love and laughter through timeless musicals, zany comedies, a classic murder mystery and a Shakespearean comedy. 2015 • Shakespeare - comes to life, June 12th - July 5th with A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The canon’s most enchanted comedy pursues love with calculated abandon! This story of mortal and immortal paramours set in a mythical forest is one that will cast a spell on lovers of all ages. • 1776 - Closing this exciting season, July 24th - August 16th, is the American musical, 1776. With revolutionary immediacy, our lofty founding fathers are found to be genuine people who debate, bargain and fray one another’s nerves as they struggle on the tortuous road to independence. This musical witness to the creation of one of the most eloquent documents in history will stir the soul of every American. All performances are on the HFAC Garza Mainstage, recently named “Houston’s Best Gem of a Theatre” by the Houston Press, except for Peter Pan, which will be performed at the Berry Center. Season subscriptions packages are now available for purchase for the 2014-2015 season. FATHER’S DAY CELEBRATION A wonderful Father’s Day “Celebration” has been planned by the Worship Ministry Team at Cornerstone United Methodist Church for Sunday, June 21st. At all three worship services (8:30, 9:30 & 10:45 AM), we will give a gift to every man in attendance. We will also be giving an additional gift to three of our special fathers: the oldest father in attendance, the father with the youngest child in nursery/worship and the father with the most children present. The theme of the service will be centered around Dr. Dave Meadows’ Father’s Day message entitled, “How Big Is Your God, Daddy?” as we honor our fathers and other men who have touched our lives with their guidance and love. Make plans to join us for the special worship opportunity and be sure to bring your dad! Free Movie Night, June 13th! Great Movie! Fun People! Free Childcare! free movie night at Cornerstone UMC? At 5 PM the friendliest church in the neighborhood will host a movie night for the community. The movie will be Walt Disney’s “BIG HERO 6” an action comedy adventure about brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. All ages are invited! Pack your neighbors in the van and head to Cornerstone United Methodist Church on June 13th. PATRIOTIC WORSHIP & FELLOWSHIP CELEBRATION On Sunday, June 28th, Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be hosting a special “Patriotic Worship Event.” In celebration of our nation’s birthday on July 4th, Steve Hoyle, the Cornerstone Music Director, has put together a festive musical extravaganza entitled, “Let Freedom Ring.” The program will include patriot songs and readings, a time of prayer for our nation, a salute to our Armed Forces and a “message in song” focusing on “Old-time Southern Gospel” music. On this Sunday only, rather than the usual three services at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:45 AM (there will also be Christian Education at 9:30 AM), Cornerstone will have just one “churchwide” service at 10:45 AM. Bring everyone you can and come celebrated with us the birthday of our nation on Sunday, June 28th. Cornerstone UMC Launches Summer Shoe Drive! Cornerstone United Methodist Church is conducting a shoe collection drive, which will run until the end of July to raise funds for our family life center. We will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will be utilized towards the costs associated with our family life center. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 18081 West Road. You can bring your donations by Monday-Thursday 9 AM-4 PM or contact the church office to schedule a time to pick up the shoes. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and

house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. By donating shoes to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives. For more information or questions about the shoe drive, please contact Scott Grow at youth@cornerstoneumc.org or contact the church office at 281-859-4141.

Income Tax Preparation 4654 Hwy. 6 N. Suite 101
BEAR CREEK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH ATTENTION: CAREGIVERS OF ELDERLY PERSONS
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly. Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley, Horne, Jowell, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan, Tipps, Walker and Wilson. Other Community groups include: Autumn Creek Baptist Church, Beck and Masten Automotive, Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Copperfield Church, Crossbridge Church, Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club, Deerfield Village HOA, LDS Bear Creek and Cop-

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?
We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through June. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

PURPOSE OF HUNTER’S PARK COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION Hunter’s Park Community Association handles the financial and legal affairs of the subdivision. Each lot owner is required to pay an annual maintenance fee which is used to pay street lights; pay taxes on and maintain the common areas, such as the swimming pools, tennis courts, etc.; pay for security; and pay legal expenses incurred to enforce the deed restrictions. The Board meets every month at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the community building. Residents are welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to place an item on the agenda should call the HPCA office in advance. The Annual Meeting of Members is held on the 4th Thursday of January. Members hold three year staggered terms and are elected. The election process is as follows: 1) Mail in ballots will be mailed out with the Annual Maintenance fee statements. 2) Voting in person will begin on the 1st Monday after the Annual Meeting ending on the following Saturday at 7pm.
HPCA Office
Office Phone: 281 463-1216 Office Hrs: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Mon- Fri. Closed Weekends and Major Holidays HPCA employs two workers to provide coverage for the office. Every effort is made to have one of the two employees in the office at all times. Occasionally business of the association may require us to be out of the office for a short period of time. If we are out of the office when you call or if you call after hours, please leave a message on the answering machine and your calls will be returned as soon as possible during office hours.

Complaint forms are included in every Bear Creek Newsletter for your convenience. The association’s office verifies complaints and writes letters to violators. HPCA will initiate legal action when warranted, to enforce the deed restrictions. ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL You must submit any plans for improvements or modifications of your home to the Hunter’s Park Community Association Office.
