February 2016 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ART CONTEST! Don’t mess with Texas® and Keep Texas Beautiful invite you to set aside time for their Elementary School Art Contest. Did you know that Texans ages 16 to 34 are the most likely to litter? We need to do all we can to motivate young Texans to keep our environment free of trash. This contest is a great way to share the Don’t mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful litter prevention messages with your elementary school students so that they learn good habits from an early age. Get creative! Inspired by their creativity and desire to protect our environment, elementary school students from across Texas can submit their best litter prevention design to be considered for the 2016 Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. Entries will be judged based on creativity/uniqueness, inclusion of a litter prevention message and interpretation of theme, overall visual appeal, composition and age appropriateness. Students win prizes and have their art featured. Students who create the top 13 winning designs will have their artwork assigned to a month or featured on the cover of the 2016 Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. Each will also win an iDeaUSA 8 tablet donated by H-E-B and Central Market. All student winners and their artwork will be showcased on the Don’t mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful websites and social media sites, at the 2016 Keep Texas Beautiful annual conference, in media announcements and through other means as appropriate. Teachers win, too! Teachers representing students who produce the top 13 designs will each win a $100 H-E-B and Central Market gift card. See Official Contest Rules for more information. Everything you’ll need to participate including fact sheets, official rules and the contest entry form and agreement is posted at DontMessWithTexas.org. ANNUAL ASSESSMENTS
Here is the schedule for the collection of the Association’s Assessments: January 31st: Unpaid Assessments become delinquent. February 1st: Late fees and interest begin and Late Notices are mailed out for all delinquent accounts. March 1st: A Warning Letter is mailed out on all delinquent accounts. April 1st: A Final Notice is mailed (via certified mail) on all delinquent accounts. There is a $35 charge to the delinquent account at this time. May 1st: If payment has not been received or a payment plan has not been entered, delinquent accounts are sent to the Attorney at this time. The Attorney can file a lien and all legal fees will be billed back to the delinquent account. PAYMENT OPTIONS: 1. If you are unable to make payment in full, please contact KPM Management so that you can make payment arrangements. You will still pay interest on the unpaid balance, but you will not be sent to the attorney. 2. Statements will be mailed the first of every month for accounts making payments. 3. Many homeowners have started making monthly pre-payments ahead of time, so that when the assessment becomes due they are already paid. Methods of payment: CHECK OR MONEY ORDER: Cash is not accepted. Please make payment with check or money order made payable to your community. ONLINE: You can now make payments online using Visa, MasterCard, Discover or with a checking account. FEBRUARY 4TH - 6TH 2016 The 22nd Annual Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Livestock Show Association Show and Sale will be held Feb. 4th -6th at the CFISD Exhibit Center, 11206 Telge Road. The CFISD community gave a combined total of nearly $890,000 during the 2015 show through the premium sale, freezer sale and in donations to students. Students from all CFISD high schools will participate in the event. Approximately 690 student exhibitors and 900 student projects and animals will be exhibited and judged. BERRY CENTER TO HOST UIL WRESTLING STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS The 2016 University Interscholastic League Wrestling State Championships will take place at Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District’s Berry Center. After receiving feedback from stakeholders in the wrestling community, the UIL made the decision to change venues to better accommodate the growing sport.

A second conference was added to boys and girls wrestling competition in 2013, doubling the number of qualifiers and matches. The 2013 Wrestling State Championships were expanded to three days and two locations. This marks the first time the UIL Wrestling State Championships will be held in the Houston area. The Curtis Culwell Center in Garland hosted the UIL Wrestling State Championships in 2014 and 2015. Prior to that, the UIL Wrestling State Championships had been held in Austin since 1999. “The Berry Center is an excellent venue that will allow the UIL more flexibility with the Wrestling State Tournament schedule to provide the best championship experience for student-athletes, coaches and fans,” UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt said. Boys and girls wrestling has been a UIL-sanctioned sport since 1999. The 2016 UIL Wrestling State Championships will be February 18th- 20th. “Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is extremely proud to partner with the University Interscholastic League to host the State Wrestling Tournament,” Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Director of Athletics Ed Warken said. “We look forward to welcoming the student-athletes, their families and all wrestling fans to the beautiful Berry Center. It will serve as a great venue to highlight the efforts of so many kids and coaches and we are honored to be a part of this event.”

CUTHBERT SCHOOL 2016-2017 REGISTRATION St. Cuthbert Episcopal School’s 2016-2017 registration will start on February 2nd at 8 AM and will continue each day during school hours until all of our spots are full. We offer 2, 3 or 5 day classes for students, ages 18 months - 5 year olds. St. Cuthbert School is now offering a Bridge to Kindergarten class for the 2016-2017 school year. Our bridge program is designed for children who are not quite ready for kindergarten. We recognize the need to engage children with summer or fall birthdays who are five years old, entering Kindergarten or First grade the following school year, however still need a bit more time before entering a rigorous learning environment. On February 13, 2016, the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) will hold its 8th Annual Salute to Our Heroes Gala at the Omni Hotel. Joe Myers Ford Lincoln is generously underwriting this gala that honors the brave men and women who have served to protect our freedom and liberty. Salute to Our Heroes has raised more than half a million dollars over the past seven years. Proceeds from this event have funded three endowed scholarships.

FORWARD BASKETBALL HIGH SCHOOL GUYS Be a part of one of our basketball leagues. Practice/Games will be on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday nights. The Northwest Flyers Track Club is now registering new and returning athletes for the 2016 spring and summer track season. Cornerstone United Methodist Church has partnered with Fiest Elementary School to provide assistance to disadvantaged students attending this elementary school located. More than 50% of the students attending the school are classified as “below the poverty level.” In order to assure that these students have the school supplies they need, the “Friends of Fiest” at Cornerstone have established a “Cornerstone Closet for Fiest.” This is an ongoing project whereby a stockpile of supplies is maintained so that when students deplete their initial supply and families cannot afford to replenish their needs, teachers can draw from the stockpile in the “Closet” to provide needed items. Currently the most needed items are composition books, pencils, glue sticks and facial tissue. Contributions can be dropped off in the church office or placed in the “Closet for Fiest” bend in the lobby of the worship center. All contributions are welcomed.

INGREDIENTS: 1 pound ground beef 1 onion, chopped 1 (16 ounce) can chili beans, with liquid 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans with liquid 1 (15 ounce) can whole kernel corn, with liquid 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce 2 cups water 2 (14.5 ounce) cans peeled and diced tomatoes 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chile peppers 1 (1.25 ounce) package taco seasoning mix A FEW OPTIONAL TOPPINGS: Corn Chips, Tortillas, Shredded Cheese, Sour Cream DIRECTIONS: In a medium skillet, cook the ground beef until browned over medium heat. Drain, and set aside. Place the ground beef, onion, chili beans, kidney beans, corn, tomato sauce, water, diced tomatoes, green chile peppers and taco seasoning mix in a slow cooker.
