If a vehicle is parked in violation, the POA has the right to fine per incident after a warning notice, fines start at $50 and go up to $100 per violation. OIL STAIN CLEAN UP
1. Clean up any fresh oil stains by blotting the surface with newspaper. 2. Sprinkle a layer of clay-based cat box litter over the top of the oil stain. You want to completely cover the stain so that you can no longer see it through the litter. The litter will soak up the oil from the concrete. 3. Monitor the color of the litter several times while it is sitting on the stain. As the oil becomes absorbed into the litter, it will change to a darker color. When the litter changes colors, remove the old litter by sweeping it up with a broom. Dispose of the discolored litter as you did the oil-soaked newspapers. Sprinkle more litter onto the stain the same way you did in the prior step and continue to let it soak up the oil. Leave the stain covered with litter for a minimum of one day. Clean away all the litter after 24 hours. Sweep up the litter and dispose of it. 4. Apply a liquid dish detergent with grease-cutting agents to the oil stain. Use a scrub brush to rub the detergent into the stain. 5. Allow the detergent to settle for five minutes, then scrub the detergent into the stain again using short, circular movements. 6. Pour 1 cup of boiling water on to the dish detergent covered stain. Use your scrub brush to rub the water and soap into the stain. Take care not to burn yourself. 7. Blot up the now oily and soapy water with newspaper after the mixture has cooled for several minutes. Dispose of the newspaper. Continue to blot the area until you have absorbed all of the oily water. 8. Pour another 2 cups of boiling water over the stain. This will wash away any oily water that was not absorbed by the newspaper. Be careful not to burn yourself. If the stain is still present, repeat the process.

Your neighbors love you when you do your part to keep the community beautiful and they complain to others when you don’t. Your Association management team is receiving an abundance of calls concerning dying grass and lack of mowing/edging/weeding. Please note, your management team is sending out violation letters and charging back for ‘force mows.’ If dying grass cannot be brought back to life, the resident will have to go to the expense to re-sod. In the case of visible neglect of lawn maintenance and unresponsiveness from the resident, the HOA reserves the right to mow and/or edge the resident’s lawn and charge them for the services rendered. A flat $ 80 fee will be charged to the homeowner, regardless of whether the entire lawn will need maintenance or if only edging (sidewalks, driveways, etc.) is required. The HOA has discretion as to which services are needed at the time of service. DEED RESTRICTION PROCESS FOR GENERAL VIOLATIONS
1st letter: Notifying owner of violation and giving them (30 days) to cease and desist. (Legally no further letters can go out for this violation until the (30 days) has expired.) 2nd letter: After the (30 days) has expired from the 1st letter a 2nd letter notifying the owner of violation will be sent. (Please note that depending on what the violation is the board can send the account to the attorney when the (30 days) has expired from this letter.)

3rd letter: This letter is optional to the board and depending on what the violation is they do not always feel the need to send a 3rd letter. At any time you feel that you get a letter that is not warranted, please feel free to contact First Service immediately to discuss at 713-932-1122. GARDENING TIPS FOR OCTOBER
• Dig and store caladiums before the foliage dies. Allow the bulbs to dry in the shade, shake off the dried soil and dust with sulphur to control fungus. Store by hanging in open mesh bags or old panty hose. • Flowers planted for spring can begin when the temperatures are going to stay cooler. Shrubs and trees can be planted now. Woody plants concentrate on root growth through the winter and the more headstart they can get before summer, the better. • October 15th is about the time for dividing and planting daylilies. • Watch out for brown patch in St. Augustine grass. These circular brown patches are caused by a fungus that is activated by moist cool weather. Control with Daconil. • If you need to do any pruning, do it early in the month. The re-growth stimulated by pruning needs to harden off before that odd-ball frost of Halloween. Prune fruit trees when leaves begin to fall. Remove all dead, weak and over-crowded growth. Tip back main branches to control size and shape. Spray w/dormant oil when temperature is between 30-60 degrees. • Cut back tops of perennials after they have bloomed. Divide roots and transplant anytime from now until March, the earlier the better. • Get the ant baits down. This will greatly reduce your spring populations. • Clover left over from last year may be growing. It’s best to hit it with the post-emerge herbicides in October and November. At least two applications are usually needed, even if done this early. • For color throughout the winter, begin planting pansies.

We recognize that not everyone has unlimited time to volunteer. But we are thankful that, every year, hundreds of people have time to read to our children. Promise to Read brings Katy’s business community into elementary schools each November, allowing adults to share their love of reading and allowing children to indulge their love of being read to. From Alcott to Zalbern, wockets in pockets to monsters in closets, guest readers sit down in little chairs in front of little faces and the room is transformed. Promise to Read is a tradition in Katy with many of our readers having participated since the program’s inception in 1997. Some bring their own books from home - others let the librarian or teacher choose one for them. But in either case, everyone agrees it’s the best 30 minutes they’ll spend all week. KATY ISD FOOD FOR FAMILIES
November 1st - December 11th - In 2014, our Katy ISD community raised over $25,000 helping 502 students and their families in our district. This wonderful initiative, held each December, allows the community of Katy to bring a little joy into the homes of some of our students and their families. Principals identify students for the program, and Partners in Education collects community and corporate donations. Grocery gift cards in the amount of $50, along with a note of support from the Katy ISD community, are then delivered to each student by a campus staff member. KATY ISD JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We’re proud to point out that Katy ISD has the largest Junior Achievement program in the world. So by the time our kids start their senior year in high school they’re completely familiar with JA, beginning in kindergarten when they learned about visiting a farm and planting a garden. Junior Achievement is a great venue for volunteering because it allows folks to build a relationship with students in a classroom. Volunteers attend training hosted by one of our on-site JA staff and are given a satchel full of materials pertinent to the class they’re teaching. And whether the lesson is about opening a donut shop or investing in the stock market, students all learn about work-readiness, entrepreneurship and how to dream big in the business world. Although numerous Katy ISD Junior Achievement classes are taught by parents, we have an impressive cadre of businesses who step up to do their part, with some companies “adopting” an entire school’s program. Whether you’re interested in teaching JA in a day at the junior high level or teaching five one-hour classes at an elementary school, it’s the perfect way to have some face time with a classroom full of kids. Sports BEAR CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH UPWARD BASKETBALL AND CHEERLEADING 2015-16
Bear Creek Baptist Church is offering Upward Basketball and Cheerleading for K-8th Grade. Early registration cost is $80 for Basketball and for Cheerleading until November 2nd. The cost after November 2nd is $90. This year the cost does include the basketball shorts or the cheer mock turtleneck for Cheer. They will have one hour of practices a week and on Saturdays, they will have a game for one hour beginning in January. Every practice and game takes place on our Campus. They will learn great new skills from encouraging coaches. Registration begins October 1st online. Each child needs to attend one evaluation session. Our first Evaluations will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, November 2nd, 3rd & 5th, between 6 and 7:30 PM and on Saturday, November 7th between 9:30 AM-12 Noon. Registration for Fun, Fair, Positive Soccer (FFPS) is open for boys and girls ages 4 to 18 for the FALL Season. Games start on October 10, 2015. FFPS is a non-profit youth soccer program dedicated to providing a positive youth sports experience for all children. Founded in 1986 in Katy, Texas, FFPS has grown to 22 leagues and 16,000 players throughout the Greater Houston area. FFPS offers children a fun and fair experience, including one practice per week, a full uniform and trophy for every player, equal playing time and play every position, co-ed/balanced teams, positive coaching and more. The Voice of Democracy essay is a National Competition created in 1947 to allow high school students in grades 9-12 to voice their opinion on their responsibility to our nation. The theme for 2015 is: “My Vision for America.” Students from public, private and parochial high schools and home schooled students, in the U.S. and in American high schools overseas may enter. The oral presentation must be not less than 3 minutes and no more than 5 minutes in length, spoken in English and recorded on the media specified on the application form, with no background noise or enhancements. The essay cannot contain the student’s name, city, state, grade level or refer to their nationality. Entries must be received no later than midnight Nov. 1, 2015. The other toys taunt the velveteen rabbit, but soon the rabbit and the boy are inseparable. After the boy gets sick, however, the rabbit must be burned to prevent the spread of illness. As the rabbit cries tears of love, a fairy appears and magically turns the velveteen rabbit into

DIRECTIONS: Heat the oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. When hot, whisk in flour. Continue whisking until the roux has cooked to the color of chocolate milk, 8 to 10 minutes. Be careful not to burn the roux. If you see black specks in the mixture, start over. Stir onion, bell pepper, celery and sausage into the roux; cook 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook another 5 minutes. Season with salt, pepper and Creole seasoning; blend thoroughly. Pour in the chicken broth and add the bay leaf. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, uncovered, for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Stir in the chicken and simmer 1 hour more.
