PARKED CARS
Please park your vehicles in your garage or at least in your driveway, trucks on your street. If you must park on the street, be considerate of the neighbor across the street, who must back from a driveway in order to enter the street. As our area has grown, so has the number of vehicles in the subdivision. Most seem to have more than one car per family and some have even more, as the children become driving age. Please try to be considerate of others who try to navigate between the cars that are left on the street. Children darting into the street or riding bicycles are more easily seen with less parked cars blocking the view of them. Thank you for your cooperation.

West I-10 FIre DepArtMeNt
Greetings from your friends at the West I-10 Fire Department. We would like to take this opportunity to share some tips with our community as the weather starts to warm up. Pool time is fun time but with lots of fun comes major responsibility. Adults must always accompany children while they are in the pool, turning your back or “just running in the house” for even a moment can have disastrous consequences. Also as the weather starts to warm up please make sure to hydrate yourselves and your family. Heat related incidents are very preventable, remember to take breaks, drink plenty of water and wear appropriate spring clothes. Did you know that the West I-10 Fire Department is a department you can join? Members come from all walks of life and work together to serve their community. The West I-10 Fire Department is also committed to community involvement and as such would like all our citizens to know the best way to contact us. If you have an emergency, please dial 9-1-1, but if you have a question about the Department or would like to inquire about a public relations event, please dial 281-675-3639 or visit our website at www.westI-10fd.org.
? Nestled among the live oak trees of Nottingham Country, Mason Creek Community Center is a formal banquet hall with a warm atmosphere. The Kingsland Ballroom offers a caterer’s kitchen, dance floor, outdoor patio and sound system. Let us help you to make your wedding unforgettable.

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”

circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more then six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle or 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk to street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

KATY ISD ANNOUNCES TRANSPORTATION CHANGES FOR 2012 - 2013
TM
The Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved a change in the eligibility requirements for students to receive transportation services. Starting in August 2012, the eligibility for bus transportation will change from the current 3/10 of a mile to approximately 1/2 mile for elementary students and approximately one mile for junior high and high school students. Bus transportation will continue to be provided for students for whom a hazardous condition may exist between home and school, as well as special needs bus routes. Approximately 52 bus routes (elementary and secondary) will be eliminated, affecting approximately 6,600 students or nearly 21% of the 32,000 students that ride school buses daily. The Katy ISD Transportation Department began building bus routes in June and in August become available. The changes are the result of the Transportation Department experiencing particular challenges this year in having route requirements. Due to vacant routes and driver absences, there have been days in which the department has found it necessary to

district to better meet route driver needs and will provide for more effective route management, including driver training and driver support in issues involving student management. “The change in transportation services comes after extensive review of our current transportation operations that not only revealed a heavy burden for drivers covering multiple routes, but also a high amount of uncertainty and risk due to vacant routes and driver absences,” said Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey. “In comparison to other school districts, Katy ISD’s transportation eligibility distances remain among the shortest in the Houston area as many districts require students to live outside of a two mile radius.”

KATY ISD PARTNERS IN EDUCATION - A BIG THANK YOU This year 16.975 Partners in Education, community and parent volunteers walked into Katy ISD classrooms and positively impacted the lives of our teachers and students. Thanks to each and every one of you for being a part of the bigger picture. We wish you a safe and happy summer! School begins on August 27, 2012.
Thus, this is how high school bowling began 75 years ago. In Texas, high school bowling began as a club sport in 2001 with the formation of the Texas High School Bowling Club Program. In its inaugural year, there were only 5 districts, 25 schools and 13 centers that participated in the program. Today, those numbers have grown to include 75 districts, 177 schools and 53 centers across the state. However, despite the rapid growth of high school bowling in Texas, it has never been adopted by the Texas U.I.L. to be recognized as a high school sport. On June 12th two Houston area high school bowlers, Keith Gardner (Katy ISD) and Dominick Savage (Ft. Bend ISD), traveled to Austin to appear before the Texas U.I.L. Legislative Committee at their Annual Policy Meeting to make a proposal that bowling be added as an U.I.L. athletic sport in high schools across the state. speak to the committee members, which was comprised of district Superintendents from throughout Texas. Having only a limited amount of time to present their topic, Keith and Dominick focused on some of the highlights about high school bowling.
HIGH SCHOOL BOWLERS MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN TEXAS four-team boy’s league at a technical school in Chicago in 1937. It period of time, the Chicago High School Bowling Club was formed. Soon after, the American High School Bowling Congress was organized and became a nationwide competition for young bowlers.

At the end of their presentation, members of the Legislative Committee commended Keith and Dominick on making such a great presentation and asked several questions, such as how many students are on each of their bowling teams; which areas currently have the most concentration of high school bowlers; how much are they currently paying for a participation fee and what are provided with a copy of Keith and Dominick’s presentation along with a brochure from USBC, which discusses a little more about High School bowling. KATY HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR’S MASTERWORKS CONCERT On May 5th, the Katy High School Choir presented a Masterworks Concert, a project they undertake every two years. This year provided a unique opportunity for the choir students. The work they performed, Requiem by Bradley Ellingboe of the University of New Mexico, was a beautiful and moving work that both enhanced the students’ music education and delighted our audience. It was a very special experience for the students in that they had the opportunity to rehearse and perform under the direction of the composer. The evening featured a full orchestra and a solo by KHS choir senior Alex Thurman.

CRAZY DAYS OF 5TH GRADE an Iggy the Iguana Book Written by Melissa M. Williams
ble a l i a Av ow! N
Crazy Days of 5th Grade is the 3rd book in the Iggy the Iguana chapter book series for children which focuses on themes of the upper elementary classroom, including making new friends, positive changes in learning styles and respect for others. When Iggy’s new teacher, Mr. Gruff the goat, continues to eat his homework, he realizes his old ways of studying are over. It will take the mind of a creative genius and a lot of make-believe to revitalize Iggy’s concentration in class. What started off as a lonely, boring school year missing his best friend Snap Shell the turtle, turns into a suspenseful ride that includes a strange encounter with a crab and an unexpected trip to the hospital. With the help of his friends and his little sister’s stuffed animals, Iggy discovers a hidden talent proving what he once considered a problem was really a gift in disguise.
Reading level: Ages 7-11 Page count: 220 Themes include: Acceptance, Diversity, Empathy, Friendship, Bullying, Health
