per qualifying system
• The Precinct will be offering Crime Alerts as a way to quickly let citizens know what is going on in their area. One you sign up on the website, a person will received a text message or an email when important events are taking place in the district. These alerts will only contain relevant information and a person may unsubscribe at any time. • The Precinct will also be offering a Citizens Police Academy. For 2 -1/2 per week over a 9 week period, instructors will show the participant various aspect of being a police officer. Many of the classes will include hands on participation and are available to anyone 21 and up and the application is available on the website. Class size is very limited. A brief video concerning this program can be viewed on www.youtube.com/watch?v+y iuleyWHWs. • The Precinct will be offering Operation Safe Child. Precinct 5 has 2 certified child safety technicians who are partnering with Texas Children’s’ Hospital to demonstrate the proper usage and installation of car seats. These technicians are current on all styles, brands, recalls and the proper way to secure your child based on height, weight and age. The sessions are quarterly and a person can actually bring their car seat and child for a demonstration. A person can also request these outings to be held in the neighborhood. If you have a monitored alarm, make sure it is calling the Constables Dispatch number.
ATTENTION!
Please be careful and slow down while driving through the subdivision; remind your young drivers to do also. Please, be aware of your surroundings and parents, remind your children to watch for vehicles when crossing the street.
PARKED CARS
Please park your vehicles in your garage or at least in your driveway, if at all possible. Please be considerate of your neighbors and the fire trucks on your street. If you must park on the street, be considerate of the neighbor across the street, who must back from a driveway in order to enter the street. As our area has grown, so has the number of vehicles in the subdivision. Most seem to have more than one

car per family and some have even more, as the children become driving age. Please try to be considerate of others who try to navigate between the cars that are left on the street. Children darting into the street or riding bicycles are more easily seen with less parked cars blocking the view of them. Thank you for your cooperation.

Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more then six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle or 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk to street.”
Please keep in mind that your news must arrive to us between the 20th and the 25th of the month ... the Star is mailed around the 25th of the next month but will be labeled for the following month. Also, be sure to include your name and phone number so that we may contact you, if necessary. We’re very interested in what you have to say!
While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained.
The Cimarron Star Newsletter is always looking for the latest news that can help our community. Should you, your family, club or organization (scouts, sports, school news, etc.) have any news you’d like to share - please mark it Cimarron Star and send it to Krenek Printing either by email: news@krenekprinting.com or mail: 7102 Glen Chase Ct., Houston, TX 77095. VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH LEASH LAW
Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”
4
Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.
HOMEOWNERS!!

KATY ISD PROMISE TO READ
We recognize that not everyone has unlimited time to volunteer. But we are thankful that, every year, hundreds of people have time to read to our children. Promise to Read brings Katy’s business community into elementary schools each November, allowing adults to share their love of reading and allowing children to indulge their love of being read to. From Alcott to Zalbern, wockets in pockets to monsters in closets, guest readers sit down in little chairs in front of little faces and the room is transformed. Promise to Read is a tradition in Katy with many of our readers having participated since the program’s inception in 1997. Some bring their own books from home - others let the librarian or teacher choose one for them. But in either case, everyone agrees it’s the best 30 minutes they’ll spend all week. For more information, contact Heather Sanders at 281-3962645.
KATY ISD FOOD FOR FAMILIES
November 1st - December 11th - In 2014, our Katy ISD community raised over $25,000 helping 502 students and their families in our district. This wonderful initiative, held each December, allows the community of Katy to bring a little joy into the homes of some of our students and their families. Principals identify students for the program, and Partners in Education collects community and corporate donations. Grocery gift cards in the amount of $50, along with a note of support from the Katy ISD community, are then delivered to each student by a campus staff member. If interested in making a contribution, make checks payable to Katy ISD Food for Families. Any contribution amount is accepted. Mail or deliver check/cash to Katy ISD Partners in Education, 6301 South Stadium Lane, Room 1520, Katy, Texas 77494. For more information, contact Tammy Stringer at tammyrstringer@katyisd.org or 281-396-2645.
KATY ISD JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We’re proud to point out that Katy ISD has the largest Junior Achievement program in the world. So by the time our kids start their senior year in high school they’re completely familiar with JA, beginning in kindergarten when they learned about visiting a farm and planting a garden. Junior Achievement is a great venue for volunteering because it allows folks to build a relationship with students in a classroom. Volunteers attend training hosted by one of our on-site JA staff and are given a satchel full of materials pertinent to the class they’re teaching. And whether the lesson is about opening a donut shop or investing in the stock market, students all learn about work-readiness, entrepreneurship and how to dream big in the business world. Although numerous Katy ISD Junior Achievement classes are taught by parents, we have an impressive cadre of businesses who step up to do their part, with some companies “adopting” an entire school’s program. Whether you’re interested in teaching JA in a day at the junior high level or teaching five one-hour classes at an elementary school, it’s the perfect way to have some face time with a classroom full of kids. For more information, contact Necole Gibson at 281-396-2439.
KATY ISD KEYS MENTORING
KEYS mentors are adults with knowledge and experience to share, who have the desire to motivate students to reach their full potential. They commit to one student for up to one hour per week during the school day, during the school year. During those weekly visits

mentors and students engage in a variety of activities - and although they may help with academics, mentors are not tutors. In Katy ISD, KEYS offers four opportunities for those who wish to join our KEYS mentor family: Traditional Mentoring - Pairs one mentor with one child once a week. KSR (Katy Students Run) - Matches running coaches with high school students as they prepare for the Houston Half Marathon. Mentor Buddies - Offers every other week option for volunteers. Two mentors partner in mentoring the same student, coordinating their schedule so the child sees one of them at the same time each week. Dads with Dads - Places experienced Dads from the community who collectively coordinate their schedules to meet with groups of young high school fathers. KEYS is offered at every Katy ISD campus, each of which has a staff liaison who oversees the school’s program. All mentors must make a one school year commitment to a student and complete an application and background check. For more information, contact Martha Brown at 281-396-2468.
