For Residents of Bradford Colony, Charlestown Colony, Concord Colony, Georgetown Colony One, Georgetown Colony Two, Jamestown Colony, Langham Creek Colony, and Yorktown Colony
June 2012 Bradford Colony 1 & 2 (BC 1&2) BE PREPARED “Welcome to June! As you are well aware, June begins the hurricane season. While the “experts predict this season to be relatively calm and to not have many major storms, we all know how quickly that can change. We need to be prepared. Start now by stocking up on extra canned goods, candles and batteries. Prepare your property by checking the little things to be sure they are secure. We sometimes forget things like the items you leave in your yard, your downspouts and shutters. When a storm is coming, you are going to be focused on your family’s safety and small things like that will be overlooked but could cause significant damage to your property or your neighbors.
(BC 1&2) YARD of thE Month We are very proud that a lot of homeowners have put in a great deal of work to spruce up their yards in our subdivision. The May Yard of the Month was awarded to 6334 Horsepen Bayou Drive. Homeowner Debra Fitzgerald will get $50 cash prize. Keep up the good work.
(BC 1&2) BAYou fEnCEs Have you noticed the fences along the bayou? The HOA made the decision to close off access to the Bayou for our community’s safety and security. There had been many break-ins where the culprits came in from or escaped into the bayou . By closing those off, we have greatly reduced the entrance to and exit from our neighborhood by the criminal element. That being said, when the fences were constructed, the main gates had locking mechanisms that were secured with a lock provided by the MUD district to only allow access by official MUD personnel. Some of our more industrious neighbors have found ways around the locks and continue to access the bayou to fish, ride motor vehicles or who knows what. Access to the bayou is limited to official personnel only. While it seems a nice place to relax and/or play, it is not part of our subdivision nor is it property that should be accessed or entered by anyone except authorized individuals. We ask that you respect the fences, gates and the laws regarding the county property adjacent to our subdivision and avoid entering the bayou without permission. On a different note, we’ve never had this problem before, but someone has been turning on the water valve at the park pavilion and left the water

We would like to encourage all residents to keep an eye out. Part of our association dues is used to pay for water usage, so it is our money down the drain as well. Plus the drought will likely worsen as summer approaches, wasting water just hurt all of us.

The Board would like to thank all the residents who either attended the Annual Meeting on May 20th or assigned their proxies so that they would be represented at the meeting. This annual event is a mandatory part of the neighborhood governance policies that allow our HOA to be a non-profit and legal entity. One new director position was up for election at this year’s meeting - the results of this election, as well as the new Board positions for the five directors will be published in the July newsletter. The Board would like to sincerely thank Maria Torres for volunteering her time to serve on the Board of Directors over two years ago after a director resignation. During her period on the Board, Maria balanced her family and job with the various responsibilities associated with being a Director. This included serving as Board President during 2010-2011 and handling the Welcoming Committee effort over the past year.

Each of us has received an insert in our Harris County MUD 102 water bill asking that we observe the voluntary water conservation program that they have laid out. There are two simple rules with respect to this program: 1. Even numbered residences should water outdoors on Wednesdays and Sundays while odd numbered residences should water outdoors on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Despite the fact that we have had some significant rainfall and that the drought conditions have technically ended, it is anticipated that this will be another difficult summer season.

(BCS3) JULY 4 Th CELEBrATION Even though this holiday falls in the middle of the week this year, we are sure that everyone will be celebrating this special event. Barring a Harris County ban, there will be a lot of fireworks being used during this period. As in the past, the Board would like to thank everyone ahead of time for making the effort to clean up all the fireworks debris in a timely fashion once their celebrations are completed.

(BCS3) 2012 BCS3 ASSESSMENT UPDATE
If as you read this newsletter item you still haven’t paid your 2012 Assessment or set up a payment plan, you are strongly encouraged to contact our management company (ACMP) at 281-855-9867 as soon as possible and talk to our agent (Theodora Daly) about making arrangements to address this issue.
(BCS3) YARD OF THE MONTH This month’s award goes to the Mwakutuya Family at 6527 Horsepen Bayou Drive. Based on our records, this is the first time that the award has been given to Wellington and his family and it well earned. They have continually done a great job keeping their yard looking as good as possible, regardless of the sometimes brutal Houston weather. This effort is best exhibited by their ripping out their front lawn late last summer during the drought and restoring the entire lawn to its present top quality condition. Congratulation to Wellington and his family for all their hard work! Despite last summer’s damaging drought conditions, the lawns and yards in BCS3 are looking great! A massive amount of work has been put in by our neighbors to restore their lawns and yards to great looking conditions.
(BCS3) WEBSITE REMINDER If you have time, please remember to get online and check out the neighborhood website at www.bcs3.org. The Board has been trying to keep this site as up-to-date as possible under the direction of Andy Nguyen. Please take the time to check into this new and updated website and feel free to contact any Board member with suggestions and comments pertaining to this site.
(BCS3) LANDSCAPING UPDATE - ESPLANADES: Hopefully, you have noticed how good the two esplanade areas are looking as you pull into the neighborhood off of Huffmiester Road. Ron Heydon and his people at Venture Landscaping have handled our landscaping issues for almost 10 years. This work includes handling all the trees, bushes and vegetation in these two public areas, as well as monitoring the efficiency of the sprinkler system with respect to timing and water coverage. Recently, the esplanades underwent their “Spring Tune Up. This included changing out the bedding plants, as well as fertilizing and mulching the two flower beds ($317), fertilizing the entire esplanade lawn area plus trees and bushes ($38), replacing one almost dead crepe myrtle ($135 for 10’ tree) and mulching all the trees in the esplanades ($70).

As we approach another hot and hopefully not dry summer, all our plants can use some help. Fertilizing regularly helps plant keep their color and vitality. Water soluble fertilizers can be mixed and applied with each watering. Controlled-released fertilizers can be worked into the soil and are activated by heat. Remember to check plants daily and water in the mornings when possible. Don’t leave water sitting in the saucers under potted plants as this becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes! Always top off any exposed soil with 2 to 3 inches of mulch!
Everyone should have received a letter in the water bill last month about water conservation. While these conservation measures are voluntary, we all need to be “water-wise. Houses with even-numbered addresses should only do outside watering on Wednesday and Sunday. Those with odd-number addresses should only do outside watering on Tuesday and Saturday. Watering outdoors is recommended between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM or between of 6:00

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through June. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

CY-FALLS high SChooL CYPRESS FALLS KEY CLUB WiNS hoNoRS AT 2012 DiSTRiCT CoNVENTioN
From April 12th to 15th, the Cypress Falls Key Club traveled to Dallas to attend the annual Texas-Oklahoma District Convention. Each year, over one thousand Key Club members from the two states learn to become valuable leaders, earn awards for their service to their communities and celebrate a year of successes.
community. Just recently, the Cypress Falls Key Club teamed up with other local Key Clubs to hold a Kiwanis Bake Sale. All proceeds went toward Eliminate, an organization that works to stop neonatal tetanus. The Cypress Falls Key Club is looking for even more events where they can lend a helping hand. If your organization is in need of devoted volunteers, be sure to contact the Cypress Falls Key Club.
This year, the Cypress Falls Key Club earned many honors. Based on monthly reports that reflect the club’s performance, it ranked as the fifth Key Club in the entire Texas-Oklahoma district. The Cypress Falls volunteers also earned a variety of other awards. Cypress Falls won the first place award and a patch for the District Project. Roshni Chandwani, former Vice President and future President, won third place in Original Oratory. Their website, www. cfallskeyclub.webs.com, earned a Distinguished Website Patch. The Cypress Falls Key Club also won the Governor’s Project Patch and UNICEF’s ELIMINATE Patch. In addition, two of the Cypress Falls Key Club officers from the 2011-2012 school year will go on to serve district positions during the upcoming school year. Carolina Hernandez, the school Key Club’s former president, was appointed to be the 3N Lieutenant Governor. Next year, Hernandez will preside over the Key Clubs in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and Katy ISD. Kevin Duong, the secretary from the 2011-2012 school year, was elected as the Texas-Oklahoma District Secretary of Key Club International. Duong will preside over the three hundred clubs and seventeen thousand members throughout the Texas-Oklahoma district to manage monthly reports and records.
Class of 2012.
The Cypress Falls Key Club definitely appreciated the honors it received at the District Convention this year. “I am so proud of all of our clubs,” said the organization’s sponsor, Kathie Kiklas. “Although we all compete against each other, we cheer each on knowing how much it takes to make the top 25. Congratulations to each and every Key Clubber.”

CYPRESS FALLS HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR
What a great year! From the ice cream social, pj party, men’s bbq, spaghetti dinner and auction, concerts, appearances, parties, to the fundraising, banquet and everything in between: It’s been fantastic! Thank you to everyone for helping our choir men and women have a year full of memories that will last a lifetime. The Spring Trip to Dallas was a load of fun - supporting the jousting men of the sections at Medieval Times, dining at Hard Rock Cafe and playing at Fiesta Texas was enjoyment for all. The chaperones and the students came home equally happy and exhausted! A round of applause for all involved in carrying out such a huge event so successfully!

"Doing business from the same location since 1978"
Our graduating seniors are thrilled to continue on their journey, their presence will surely be missed. They were recognized in the most harmonious of ways at the Spring concert. We would like to take this moment to wish them great encouragement on their future accomplishments as we note them by name: Kortland Allen, Jordan Ashworth, Jake Bracher, Madison Burt, Jake Hermida, Cameron Hussey, Kendrea Johnson, Kayley Jones, Eleni Kotzabassis, Elizabeth Lopez, Issiah Miles, James Nguyen, Amanda Sheriff, Kari Sterner and Taylor White. Along with the students graduating, their supportive parents will leave our fold with them. The executive board will be losing some very dedicated and loving parents as well. We recognize Marcely Burt and Debbie Mandola, along with long time executive board members, Heidi and Warren Hussey. You have been the backbone of the choir’s extracurricular activities and Ms. Douglas’s right hand. Your countless dedicated hours of your many selfless efforts will forever be seen in the continued success of our choir students. You have loved and been loved and we hope you will carry that love with you and remember your time at Cy-Falls with fondness. Thank you seems so inadequate, but it is said with full, heavy, grateful, heartfelt and warmth. Thank you. Our men’s choir had a command performance for the CFISD Executive Board. They sang in front of the board and resounded beautifully as they presented a sample of their vocal excellence that was enjoyed at TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association). Congratulations to this honors choir for a job well done. The banquet ‘Denim and Diamonds’ was held at the Northwest Conference Center. It is said that presentation is everything and the presentation was outstanding! A big Thank you to Sandra Greer, Banquet Chairman. Awards presented by the students were heart felt and hilarious, as the slideshow showcased just how much humor this group has!

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD was named the large district winner during the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards ceremony honoring outstanding public schools. Recognized for outstanding commitment to student achievement, parental and community involvement and professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators, CFISD was chosen for the award among five large district finalists and earned a $100,000 cash award. “I’m fortunate to be a part of a district with a lot of special people who make a large school system feel like a tight-knit community,” said Dr. Mark Henry, superintendent of schools. “It’s gratifying to accept an award that recognizes the positive impact of public education in Texas.”

I am so proud of our Hamilton staff and students and I love having this opportunity to brag on them a little more,” said Bartlett. “Next week we will begin gathering student ideas for the use of our school’s prize money. H-E-B launched the Excellence in Education awards program in 2002 in cooperation with the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) as a positive way to support public education in Texas. In its 11 years, the program has generated more than $5.5 million to educators, schools and districts across the state. More than 4,000 nominations were submitted at the beginning of the year for the award, which resulted in 800 completed applications submitted by nominees that were reviewed by judges from the Colleges of Education at Trinity University and Texas State University. Judges narrowed the field to 148 teachers, 47 principals, 19 early childhood facilities and 25 school districts, which competed in the regional judging process in February. Five regional judging panels comprised of former winners, administrators and university and community leaders selected the 40 individual statewide finalists, while the district finalists were selected by separate judging panels that reviewed their written applications and conducted individual site visits.
Master Choi’s Academy Martial Arts
All finalists were invited to Houston for the awards celebration and special reception in their honor. During their stay, the teachers and principals participated in personal interviews with the statewide judging panel to determine a winner.

Crazy Days of 5th Grade is the 3rd book in the Iggy the Iguana chapter book series for children which focuses on themes of the upper elementary classroom, including making new friends, positive changes in learning styles and respect for others. When Iggy’s new teacher, Mr. Gruff the goat, continues to eat his homework, he realizes his old ways of studying are over. It will take the mind of a creative genius and a lot of make-believe to revitalize Iggy’s concentration in class. What started off as a lonely, boring school year missing his best friend Snap Shell the turtle, turns into a suspenseful ride that includes a strange encounter with a crab and an unexpected trip to the hospital. With the help of his friends and his little sister’s stuffed animals, Iggy discovers a hidden talent proving what he once considered a problem was really a gift in disguise.
