SUMMER ACTIVITIES
Would you like to see additional activities in our neighborhood? We would love to have things for our families, but without assistance it is not possible. The Board of Directors members all have full time jobs or other family obligations that take up much of our time. We are an unpaid voluntary Board with the interest of Concord Bridge at heart. If you have ideas for neighborhood activities, get volunteers to help and present your ideas to the Board. We will back legitimate activities to unite with our neighbors. There were several people at the annual meeting that advised they would assist in activities. We encourage you to step forward with your ideas and volunteers to assist. We will have movie nights in the park again this year. Watch for information in the Crier and on the marquees.
DEED RESTRICTIONS
Deed restrictions are in place to maintain continuity within the neighborhood. Without these standards, a home could be left in disrepair or abandoned and could become a plight to our neighborhood. At entrances to the neighborhood, there are signs declaring deed restrictions are strictly enforced and when you purchased the home you were given a copy of the deed restrictions. Please remember, this is a legal document in place to protect the value of your home. If your home is not in good repair, it not only affects the value of it, but the surrounding homes. In order to maintain our values it is mandatory that everyone makes the necessary repairs, remove the mildew and/or paint as needed. Inoperable vehicles are to be repaired or removed. Covering them with covers or tarps does not change the fact that they are not in compliance with the deed restrictions. Motorized vehicles cannot be parked in the yard or on your porch.

Preferred Management handles most of the business transactions for Concord Bridge under the direction of your Board of directors. If you don’t understand any correspondence from Preferred Management, please call for clarification. The homeowners association pays for all correspondence related to deed restrictions, therefore duplicate letters cost you and me additional fees. Do not ignore correspondence from Preferred Management!
HARRIS COUNTY ALARM PERMIT

The permit application can be downloaded from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office website at www.hcso.hctx.net and click on forms. The application should be completed and mailed with the appropriate fees to the address shown on the application. A new permit will cost $35 and annual renewals are $10. CONCORD BRIDGE PETS
Have you lost a pet or found a dog or cat? You can contact the Concord Bridge Pet Hotline at 281-468-9414 and on the Facebook account, www.facebook.com/#!/Concordbridgehotline.
ELECTRICIAN
You can use this source to report lost and found animals. This has been a great help in returning lost and found animals to their owners. Even if you don’t have access to Facebook, you can call 281-468-9414. It is far more efficient than posting illegal signs all over the neighborhood. Harris County requires that all pets be on a leash or confined within your yard. Unleashed dogs are a nuisance to your neighbors and other pets. Please pick up all dog waste and dispose of it properly. Remember, our children play in the park areas and their yards. It’s very inconsiderate of you to allow your dog to defecate if others yards and the parks. When walking your dogs, please be prepared to remove any waste they may leave behind.

BERRY CENTER TO HOST UIL WRESTLING STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS The 2016 University Interscholastic League Wrestling State Championships will take place at Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District’s Berry Center. After receiving feedback from stakeholders in the wrestling community, the UIL made the decision to change venues to better accommodate the growing sport. A second conference was added to boys and girls wrestling competition in 2013, doubling the number of qualifiers and matches. The 2013 Wrestling State Championships were expanded to three days and two locations. This marks the first time the UIL Wrestling State Championships will be held in the Houston area. The Curtis Culwell Center in Garland hosted the UIL Wrestling State Championships in 2014 and 2015. Prior to that, the UIL Wrestling State Championships had been held in Austin since 1999. “The Berry Center is an excellent venue that will allow the UIL more flexibility with the Wrestling State Tournament schedule to provide the best championship experience for student-athletes, coaches and fans,” UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt said. Boys and girls wrestling has been a UIL-sanctioned sport since 1999. The 2016 UIL Wrestling State Championships will be February 18th- 20th. “Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is extremely proud to partner with the University Interscholastic League to host the State Wrestling Tournament,” Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Director of Athletics Ed
10
Warken said. “We look forward to welcoming the studentathletes, their families and all wrestling fans to the beautiful Berry Center. It will serve as a great venue to highlight the efforts of so many kids and coaches and we are honored to be a part of this event.”

St. Cuthbert Episcopal School’s 2016-2017 registration will start on February 2nd at 8 AM and will continue each day during school hours until all of our spots are full. We offer 2, 3 or 5 day classes for students, ages 18 months - 5 year olds. St. Cuthbert School is now offering a Bridge to Kindergarten class for the 2016-2017 school year. Our bridge program is designed for children who are not quite ready for kindergarten. We recognize the need to engage children with summer or fall birthdays who are five years old, entering Kindergarten or First grade the following school year, however still need a bit more time before entering a rigorous learning environment. The development of the essential building blocks allows children to succeed at learning with greater ease and confidence; by helping them bridge the academic and social gaps necessary to be positive and productive classroom leaders. Our school hours are Monday-Thursday 9 AM-2 PM and Friday 9 AM-12 noon. The program provides a loving, Christian environment offering the children weekly chapel, as well as music/movement, library and computer classes. Our curriculum includes Handwriting Without Tears, reading and math. The program is open to all children, regardless of race, nationality or faith. St. Cuthbert School is NAEYC accredited. ST. CUTHBERT EPISCOPAL CHURCH St. Cuthbert is located at 17020 West Road, Houston (the northeast corner of West and Queenston). For more information on any of our events, visit us at www.stcuthbert.org. You are invited to St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church’s Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 9th from 5:30-7 PM. We will eat pancakes and play bingo! Shrove Tuesday originated during the Middle Ages. Food items like meats, fats, eggs, milk and fish were regarded as restricted during Lent. To keep such food from being wasted, many families would have big feasts on Shrove Tuesday. The English tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday came about as a way to use as much milk, fats and eggs as possible before Ash Wednesday began. In France, the consumption of all fats and fatty foods on this day coined the name “Fat Tuesday” or Mardi Gras. Sharing Our Story Lenten Program - All are invited to St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church’s Lenten program, Sharing Our Story. The program will be offered for four Wednesdays in Lent, beginning February 17th through March 9th from 6:30-7:30 PM. We will hear a testimony from a speaker who will share with us their story. We will conclude with Holy Communion and healing prayers. The Youth (sixth-twelfth grade) will take a look at wilderness and how it relates to their lives and Children (kindergartenfifth grade) will explore the events of Holy Week. The nursery will be open. Please join us for this impactful, spiritually-based Lenten program.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ART CONTEST! Don’t mess with Texas® and Keep Texas Beautiful invite you to set aside time for their Elementary School Art Contest. Did you know that Texans ages 16 to 34 are the most likely to litter? We need to do all we can to motivate young Texans to keep our environment free of trash. This contest is a great way to share the Don’t mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful litter prevention messages with your elementary school students so that they learn good habits from an early age. Get creative! Inspired by their creativity and desire to protect our environment, elementary school students from across Texas can submit their best litter prevention design to be considered for the 2016 Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. Entries will be judged based on creativity/uniqueness, inclusion of a litter prevention message and interpretation of theme, overall visual appeal, composition and age appropriateness. Students win prizes and have their art featured. Students who create the top 13 winning designs will have their artwork assigned to a month or featured on the cover of the 2016 Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. Each will also win an iDeaUSA 8 tablet donated by H-E-B and Central Market. All student winners and their artwork will be showcased on the Don’t mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful websites and social media sites, at the 2016 Keep Texas Beautiful annual conference, in media announcements and through other means as appropriate. Teachers win, too! Teachers representing students who produce the top 13 designs will each win a $100 H-E-B and Central Market gift card. See Official Contest Rules for more information. Everything you’ll need to participate including fact sheets, official rules and the contest entry form and agreement is posted at DontMessWithTexas.org. You can also download a flyer to display at your school to generate interest. The contest is through April 8, 2016. All entries must be submitted or postmarked on or before April 8, 2016. BEST SUPER BOWL PARTY EVER!! Impress your guests by hosting the best super bowl party this year on February 7th. Here are some FOOD tips that may TRIM the waistline on this traditionally food fest football fun-day: 1. Create a Food Free space: Keeping snacks in another room will help everyone save calories. Plus not having the bowl of chips in front of the TV will curb mindless eating. 2. Low-cal foods first: Instead of bringing out the chicken wings right away, offer lowercalorie foods during the first half of the game, such as a spread of fresh veggies and a lightened-up dip. 3. Give classic recipes a healthy twist: Use nonfat Greek yogurt in place of sour cream for dips. Cook Buffalo-marinated chicken tenders instead of chicken wings: you’ll still get that finger-licking yumminess while slashing your intake of saturated fat and sodium. And skip the local pizza delivery; instead, set up stations for everyone to make his/her own healthier and tastier pizza at home. 4. Downsize your dishes. Downsize serving bowls from large to medium. Serve up the tortilla chips in a medium bowl rather than a large one. Same goes for the guacamole: serve that in a small bowl. 5. Be drink aware: choose taller skinny glasses instead of short wide ones. Bigger tip: serve only what your kiddo can enjoy! Courtesy: eatinwell.com

CHINESE NEW YEAR FEBRUARY 8 TH! An estimated 1.4 billion people around the world will be celebrating the New Year on February 8, 2016. Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, starts on the night of the second new moon of the winter solstice and ends 15 days later on the night of the full moon. During Chinese New Year, families gather to enjoy delicious foods and to wish each other good luck in the year ahead. Children are often given red envelopes filled with coins, though the money inside is not as important as the color and symbol found on the envelopes, which signifies happiness and good blessings. Each year, the New Year celebration is associated with an astrological animal. 2016 is the year of the Red Monkey, also known as the Fire Monkey. People born in the year of the Monkey are said to be wise, intelligent, confident, charismatic, loyal, inventive and have leadership, according to Your Chinese Astrology. MARDI GRAS 2016!
MARDI GRAS - FUN FACTS: WOULD YOU BELIEVE? • More than 500,000 king cakes are sold each year in New Orleans between January 6th and Fat Tuesday and another 50,000 are shipped out-of-state via overnight courier. • The king cakes include a tiny plastic baby doll inside; the person who finds the doll is declared “king” and must buy the next cake or give the next party.
February 2016

• The metro area’s 37,000-plus hotel rooms are traditionally 95% filled during Mardi Gras weekend. • An economic impact study released by the University of New Orleans estimates that Mardi Gras generates over $840 million annually. • The largest of about one dozen Mardi Gras supply houses in New Orleans sells an estimated one billion pairs of beads for a Mardi Gras season. • The super parades of Endymion and Bacchus, scheduled for the Saturday and Sunday before Fat Tuesday, feature a combined total of 67 floats, 60 marching bands and more than 250 units. Their 4,200 members toss more than 1.5 million cups, 2.5 million doubloons and millions of beads. • One of the most photographed objects in all of Mardi Gras is the Boeuf Gras float in the Rex parade. Since the Middle Ages, the bouef gras (fatted bull) has been the symbol of the last meat eaten before Lent. While once a live bull was included in the procession, now a huge papier-mache’ figure appears. • The five truck parades that follow the krewes of Rex, Argus and Grela on Fat Tuesday feature more than 350 decorated flatbeds with nearly 15,000 costumed maskers aboard. HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY - 24/7, 365
Located in the Chase Bank Building on FM 529
Valentine’s Day is just one day on February 14th. Why not make it Valentine’s Day each and every day by making those you love feel extra special, including yourself. Here’s how: 1. Create & share a vision of your dream life together. Make the fulfillment of your short term and long term needs the criteria for choosing a partner and being in a relationship. 2. Accept your partner just as they are. Your partner is a special person - the only one in the world like them, with their own wonderful traits and unique gifts. They are entitled to their own decisions, hobbies, goals and hopes. 3. Be generous and loving in all your dealings with your partner. Give unconditionally, rather than wanting something back in return. Instead, commit 100% to doing things for your partner and with zero expectation. 4. Always have integrity. Commit to tell your partner the total truth, as honesty is one of the key things people want in a relationship. Knowing they can trust you builds a zone of safety and comfort around them. 5. Resolve your differences as soon as they happen. Conflict actually fuels a genuinely passionate partnership. So accept responsibility for your part of the issue at stake and do not blame your partner. 6. Do not criticize. It is ok to complain but not criticize. Your partner is doing the best they can – support them in becoming an even better person. NEVER put your partner down in front of other people. 7. Create a haven for your partner. Make them feel so safe and secure with you that they drop all their defensiveness. Be considerate of your partner’s feelings and treat them with the utmost care and kindness. 8. Let go of the past. All relationships have their difficulties. Remember only the lessons learnt and forget the details. Weather the stormy moments and savor the memory of sunny days. 9. Have a fun date with your partner regularly and often. Give the relationship the same commitment you made when you first met - simply put each other first! Courtesy: lifehack.org

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?
We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through February. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.
