The last garage sale for 2015 will be on Saturday, October 3rd. You can post signs at 6 AM Saturday morning, but they must be removed by 6 PM that day. Our HOA guidelines allow for three garage sales on preset dates. If personal signs are not removed a fine may be assessed.
ANNUAL MEETING AND ELECTIONS The annual meeting and elections will be held November 4, 2015. Please watch your mail for your notice and proxy form. If you are not able to attend the meeting, please sign and return your proxy as soon as possible. If we do not have a quorum, we will have to reschedule the meeting at an additional meeting cost. It is to everyone’s benefit that we assure a quorum.
TRASH & RECYCLE PICKUP CHANGES HORSEPEN BAYOU MUD ONLY
Effective October 1, 2015, the Horsepen Bayou MUD portion of Concord Bridge will have a new company, Texas Pride Disposal. Pick up days will remain the same. You will be asked to empty and set out the recycle bins on a date to be announced later. Texas Pride Disposal will provide a new recycle bin. Your assistance in the transition is appreciated.
The first Saturdays in March, June and October are reserved for these neighborhood sales. The Board arranges for ads in the Houston Chronicle and the Greensheet and signs are posted at the entrances of the subdivision early that week.
ANNUAL HOMEOWNERS FEES DUE JANUARY 1, 2016 You will receive your statement for 2016 fees in November. Please return your association fee payment to the address shown on your statement. Last year some fees were sent to an incorrect address. This resulted in fees arriving late. It is your responsibility to assure the correct address is used. This is often a problem because homeowners did not confirm the address in the bill pay system for their bank.

HALLOWEEN TIPS Halloween is a kid’s delight. It’s a blast to dress up in costumes, go trick-or-treating, attend parties and most of all, eat candy.

At the same time, Halloween can be scary for parents. Costumes can be dangerous, too much candy can be sickening and walking around at night can be risky. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offer these tips to make sure your little ghouls, goblins and princesses have a safe Halloween: S - Swords, knives and similar costume accessories should be short, soft and flexible. A - Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Children should walk in groups or with a trusted adult. F - Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see trick-or-treaters. E - Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before they’re eaten. H - Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help see and help others see you. A - Always test make-up in a small area first. Remove it when done to avoid skin irritation. L - Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible. L - Lower the risk for serious eye injury by avoiding decorative contact lenses. O - Only walk on sidewalks or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe. W - Wear well-fitting masks, costumes and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips and falls. E - Eat only factory-wrapped candy. Avoid eating homemade treats unless you know the cook. E - Enter homes only if you’re with a trusted adult. N - Never walk near lit candles or other open flames. Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes. If you’re hosting a party or expecting trick-or-treaters: • Provide healthy treats, such as individual packs of raisins, trail mix or pretzels. Offer fruits, vegetables and cheeses to party guests. • Use party games and trick-or-treating as an opportunity for kids to get their daily dose of 60 minutes of physical activity. • Make sure walking areas and stairs are well-lit and free of obstacles that could cause falls. • Keep candle-lit jack-o-lanterns and other open flames away from doorsteps, walkways, landings and curtains. Place them on sturdy tables, keep them out of reach of pets and small children and never leave them unattended. • Drive safely and watch out for trick-or-treaters.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS/REQUIREMENTS for obtaining a new key: • Complete the form below and bring it with you to get a new key. • $20 deposit is required in order to get a key. If you have an old tennis court key, bring it with you and you will not be charged a new deposit. Note: You must present the old key at time of getting new key - we will not accept sending it in later. Also, it must exactly match the old court key! • Concord Bridge home OWNERS (currently living in the home): You must present a valid driver’s license/photo ID showing your Concord Bridge address to receive a new key. If you own the home but rent it out to a tenant, you must present copy of lease document in addition to your valid driver’s license/photo ID. • Concord Bridge home RENTERS: You will need to obtain the key from the owner of record on the house you rent/lease. The owner of record will need to follow the process in the above bullet before receiving their new key. • ONE key per household (no exceptions). • New Rules have been posted - please take careful note of them before using the court facilities! • Alternative Key Pick Up @ Crest Management: If you miss the onsite distribution, OWNERS will need to present their deposit and required documents (listed above) in person at Crest Management’s office (17171 Park Row, Suite 310, Houston, 77084) in order to obtain a key. HARRIS COUNTY CONSTABLE PRECINCT 5 Many services are offered by Precinct 5 that you may not be aware of. Following is a brief description of some of these services and information on how to find out more. CRIME ALERTS You can sign up on the Precinct 5 website and receive a text message or email when important events are taking place in your district. CITIZEN’S POLICE ACADEMY Learn about the various aspects of being a police officer. Some classes will include hands on participation. The course is held two and a half hours once a week for nine weeks. You must be 21 age and up in order to participate. There is an application on the Precinct 5 website, www.constablepct5.com. OPERATION SAFE CHILD Precinct 5 has two certified child safety technicians who are partnering with Texas Children’s Hospital to demonstrate the proper usage and installation of car seats. They have current information regarding styles, brands, recalls and the proper way to secure a child based on age, height and weight. There will be quarterly sessions where you can bring your child and their child seat to learn the proper way to install and remove it. STREETLIGHT OUTAGE CenterPoint Energy depends on the assistance of customers to help identify streetlights in need of repair. If you notice a streetlight outage or a streetlight on during daylight hours, visit CenterPoint Energy’s website https://slo.centerpointenergy.com to report the issue. TRASH PICK UP Please remember that our trash pick up days are Monday and Thursday. Heavy trash day is Thursday and the trash company is required to pick up heavy items approved on their retrieval list. If a holiday falls on trash day, it will not be picked up the next day. It will be picked up the next scheduled pick up day.
GARDENING TIPS FOR OCTOBER • Dig and store caladiums before the foliage dies. Allow the bulbs to dry in the shade, shake off the dried soil and dust with sulphur to control fungus. Store by hanging in open mesh bags or old panty hose. • Flowers planted for spring can begin when the temperatures are going to stay cooler. Shrubs and trees can be planted now. Woody plants concentrate on root growth through the winter and the more headstart they can get before summer, the better. • October 15th is about the time for dividing and planting daylilies. • Watch out for brown patch in St. Augustine grass. These circular brown patches are caused by a fungus that is activated by moist cool weather. Control with Daconil. • If you need to do any pruning, do it early in the month. The re-growth stimulated by pruning needs to harden off before that odd-ball frost of Halloween. Prune fruit trees when leaves begin to fall. Remove all dead, weak and over-crowded growth.

The 110 member Cypress Ridge Symphony Orchestra is among six international high school orchestras that will perform at the conference. Every year, groups of every type and size from all over the world apply for the honor of performing at the conference. The Cypress Ridge Symphony Orchestra was chosen based on its excellent resume of past contest performances and on a recorded audition submitted in March. The invitation to participate is an honor and culmination of the orchestra members many years of hard work and practice under the leadership of their director, Mr. Christopher Mustell. The orchestra recognizes the once-in-a-lifetime experience and looks forward to representing Cypress Ridge, CFISD and Houston. Three CFISD teachers were recently named winners in the Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union 9th annual Extreme Classroom Makeover Essay Contest. In the contest, teachers from all grade levels submitted essays explaining why they were most deserving of the $500 grand prize to help them create an ideal learning environment for their students. The winners are Elisa Rea from Jowell Elementary School, Joan Pearson from Hamilton Middle School and Sandra Windham from Cypress Creek High School. CYPRESS CHRISTIAN STUDENTS VISIT CRIME LAB
CCS forensic science students visited the Crime Laboratory at the Regional Headquarters of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Students enjoyed an interactive tour of the facility and were able to see how evidence is processed and analyzed. This open house event was part of National Forensic Science Week, open to the public in recognition of the important role that forensic science plays in criminal investigations.

CYCHRISTIAN YEARBOOK STAFF CREATING INTERACTIVE EDITION A group of students from the Cypress Christian School yearbook class, led by journalism teachers, attended the Jostens Summer Yearbook Workshop at South Shore Harbor Resort in Clear Lake, Texas. Students focused on how to improve the school’s yearbook, which will include links to videos in this year’s edition. Breakout sessions provided information about how to choose a captivating theme, write strong headlines and create descriptive captions. Students in the photography track were taught by award-winning photojournalists, who provided encouraging feedback about their photos and videos. Students ended the workshop by completing the design for the 2015-2016 yearbook cover which highlights the yearbook theme - “Building Our Story.”

The theme for 2015 is: “My Vision for America.” Students from public, private and parochial high schools and home schooled students, in the U.S. and in American high schools overseas may enter. The oral presentation must be not less than 3 minutes and no more than 5 minutes in length, spoken in English and recorded on the media specified on the application form, with no background noise or enhancements. On Sunday, July 19th, Josh Gilliam, son of Jim & Pam Gilliam of Copperfield, earned the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Award. Josh is a member of Troop 202, a troop sponsored by Middlegate Village Homeowner’s Association. Troop 202 meets regularly on Mondays at 7 PM at Copperfield Church.

For his Eagle project and at the recommendation given by Josh’s church - Copperfield Church, Josh chose to build a work table/cabinet for the church staff ’s resource room. The cabinet was used to replace a limited, portable 6’ table. The cabinet was constructed of ¾” oak ply-wood with an attractive laminate countertop. The bottom consisted of six cubby-hole shelves (3 in front and back) which will be used for storage. Josh used his funds to purchase the materials from Home Depot. With the help of adult and youth volunteers from Troop 202, as well as scout friends
