Light green leaves may signify lack of iron (chlorosis). Correct with iron cheleates. • Cut off old dead foliage on irises. Scratch in a little bone meal around the roots. • Prune roses to reshape and groom plants for fall growth. • Wait until November to plant petunias and pansies. • Chinch bug damage is obvious now. You will have areas of thin and/or dead turf where they weren’t brought under control. There is a new generation going now. This batch causes the most damage. Use Dursban to stop the damage. • Until the weather gets back to the 80’s, St. Augustine grass grows slowly. If you fill in with sod, don’t expect a fast turnaround. The sod may look like it’s not growing while it puts down roots. You will need to water the new sod often and deeply to get it started but this also creates a disease environment. Water early so the sun can dry the turf. • Now is a good time to work new beds. Till them up, add organic material, mix it in, then let them cure for a month or so. Add in any amendments like micro-nutrients. Keep the beds moist so the microorganisms have a favorable environment.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY NORTHWEST HARRIS COUNTY RESTORE The Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County ReStore is a retail outlet that handles donated building materials, construction supplies, appliances and furniture, which are then offered to the general public at greatly reduced prices. The ReStore is open Monday through Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM. A key goal of the ReStore is to re-cycle and thus reduce the amount of solid waste placed into our vital landfills. The Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Board of Trustees adopted the 2015 - 2016 budget in the amount of $882,957,679 during the regular meeting on June 25th. The budget includes local tax revenues of $455,573,270, state revenues of $378,859,409 and miscellaneous/federal revenues of $48,525,000.

“No matter what you’re doing, be the best you can be,” Ogwumike said to the student athletes at Cypress Springs. Ogwumike started out playing basketball at Cy-Fair High School, going on to win two state championships before earning a scholarship to Stanford University after turning down Connecticut and Notre Dame. “It’s always fun coming home because I remember being in their shoes,” Ogwumike said. After the brief talk to the girls at the presentation, Ogwumike attempted to inspire the student athletes to try their hardest. “The speech really was a great inspiration to me,” said student Iliana Lora.

FORE CY-FAIR GOLF TOURNAMENT The Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce FORE Cy-Fair Golf Tournament will be held at Blackhorse Golf Club on Tuesday, September 29th with an 11 AM shotgun start. The tournament kicks off with registration at 9:30 AM and a putting contest at 10 AM. The awards, dinner and raffle will follow at 4 PM. Texas Emergency Care Center of Cypress is back for its fifth year as the event underwriter. A portion of the proceeds from the tournament, dinner and auction benefit the Adam Skinner Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation. A scholarship has been established in his memory and the Chamber has contributed more than $94,000 to date to the endowment. Sponsorship and marketing opportunities range from $500 to $5,000. Reasons to lose your styrofoam habit - Many of us use styrofoam cups at work or when we get fast food: they’re just so convenient. But if you use one styrofoam cup a day, you’re adding 23 pounds of waste to the landfill every year (and that’s not counting all of those restaurant to-go boxes). Re-using bread bags - Bread bags are quite handy and can take the place of other products that you might buy, so, even though we probably can’t keep them out of the waste stream forever, they can be used for other purposes that may prevent the use/purchase of another product. Here are some ideas: • • • • • • • • • • • •
For packing sandwiches As packing material when shipping goods General storage for small items A replacement for freezer bags Plastic bag crafts (you can use strips to weave rugs or placemats or make “rope”) A cake icing piping bag For picking up dog poop (other small bags can be re-used for this purpose too, like snack/chip bags) Makeshift gloves for touching unpleasant or corrosive things (snack/chip bags good for this, too) Seed starters - put soil in the bottom & use them for seedling starters (also snack/chip bags) Car travel sick bag (also snack/chip bags) Trash bags for small trashcans or for the car (also snack/chip bags) Seasoning bag; add seasoning and meat and shake.

CY-WOODS FFA BOOSTER CLUB 6TH ANNUAL CRAFT SHOW The Cy-Woods FFA Booster Club will hosts it’s 6th Annual Craft Show on Saturday, October 31st from 9 AM-5 PM and Sunday, November 1st from 10 AM-4 PM. The event will be held at the CFISD Exhibit Center on Telge Rd. (off Hwy. 290) in Cypress, TX. LANGHAM CREEK FFA CRAFT SHOW The 20th Annual Langham Creek FFA Craft Show is November 14th & 15th at the Cy-Fair ISD Exhibit Center at Telge/Hwy 290. The indoor facility will have over 100 vendors selling a wide variety of products just in time for holiday shopping. We will have concessions, silent auction & raffle, chicken bingo and more!
