Christmas decorating contest
Don’t forget the Christmas decorating contest. Judging and prizes will be awarded the week of December 16th. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated homes in the neighborhood. Your HOA wishes everyone a Happy Holiday Season.
Annual Fall Festival, a great success
We had more than 150 people attend the annual Fall Festival. The children had great fun. We had pony rides, hay rides, petting zoo, games, moonwalk and a pumpkin patch where the children could decorate a pumpkin to take home. Prizes were given for the games and there was food in the pool clubhouse. Thanks to the volunteers who came out to help. Rosa Bustamante kept the hot dogs coming, Renee Bustamante kept hot popcorn for everyone. Pat Burke manned the drinks table and Billie Arrandondo kept cookies coming. A special thanks to Bobbie Dettmann, Sandy and Dave Hoppner, Dave Tyree, Ralph Yocham and Luis Infantozzi for helping where we needed help. Thanks so much to Alan and Cheryl Williamson for providing us with the hayride.
COPPER VILLAGE WEBSITE
Happy Holidays! December 2012
Bear with us as AMI continues to update and populate the Copper Village website. It was noted and reported by some of our homeowners that previously listed information was not available on the new website. We apologize for the oversight and will work to put all information on the upgraded website so that our homeowners can stay informed of our community activities. If you have recommendations for improvements or note that information is missing, please notify AMI (713-932-1122) or the Copper Village Board of Directors (CopperVillageCA-0296@amitx.com).
2013 ASSESSMENT FEES
There is no planned increase over the 2012 homeowner dues of $590. Payment of assessment fees are due on January 1, 2013 and will be considered late after January 31, 2013.
Please Help Do Your Part
Each week AMI and CV Deed Restriction/ARC Committee conduct an inspection of the neighborhood to identify where deed restriction violations may exist. If you receive a notice, please take action to remedy the issue as soon as possible. Right now our most common issue is lawn maintenance. Please help by ensuring lawns are regularly mowed and edged. This small effort keeps our community looking top-notch and the overall community appearance affects everyone’s property values.

If you have vegetation growing on or near your fence and that fence faces a common area or roadway, please ensure that vegetation is trimmed back and does not grow through, over or under the fence. This will ensure a uniform and attractive appearance for our subdivision when seen from affected streets and walkways. Keeping the vegetation out of fencing also helps to get the maximum life out of the fencing materials.
Garbage Service Issues
The Copper Village Board of Directors has received a number of calls and emails from homeowners identifying issues with neighborhood garbage service. These issues range from missed pick-ups to damaged garbage cans, spilled trash and everything in between. Unfortunately, the CV Board of Directors has little to no authority in these matters. If any homeowner has an issue with garbage service, they should call Waste Management direct at 713-695-4055 to voice your complaint and request corrective action.
Neighborhood Security
Over the past months the Copper Village Board of Directors and Association Management, Inc. (AMI) have received calls reporting break-ins and vandalism in the neighborhood. If you see a crime in progress, call 9-1-1. Please direct all non-emergency calls first and foremost to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office: 713-221-6000. On-line reporting of some crimes can be accomplished through the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Online Police Reporting System at www.hcso.hctx.net. The Copper Village Board of Directors and AMI appreciate your notifying us of criminal activity in the subdivision, but please call Harris County Sheriff’s Office, file a report and let’s get these criminals out of our neighborhood.
Leash Laws Harris County animal control regulations state:
A. “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat or to allow any dog or cat to become a stray. B. The custodian of every dog or cat is responsible for any behavior of a dog or cat under the provisions of these Regulations.”

Restraint is defined as “The control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question; or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle; or 3. When it is on the premises of the custodian and the animal does not have access to a sidewalk or street.” Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by may be very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Please help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also protect the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet. To make a complaint or report an animal that is not properly restrained please contact: Harris County Animal Control: 281-999-3191 Also, please be responsible pet owners and pick up after your pets in order to keep our sidewalks, paths, lawns and park areas a place we can enjoy without worrying about where we step or what we step on.

On non-trash days, the garbage cans and waste management containers are to be placed out of visual sight (inside your garage or behind your fence). If you do not follow this procedure, you are in violation of Copper Village deed restrictions. Please remember that our community receives garage-door pickup for trash – there is no need to drag your garbage cans to the curb! Simply place your trash by your garage door and Waste Management will do the rest. Bulky items (yard trimmings, etc.) and recycling still need to be placed at the curb. Please leave the sidewalks unobstructed for the pedestrians in our community.

Neighborhood Watch Program
We are still in need of volunteers to assist with development and implementation of a Neighborhood Watch Program. Residents expressed strong interest in this program during the meetings held the beginning of this year, however the board has been unable to get the program off the ground. To volunteer please email darla_king@sbcglobal.net
Parking in the Street
Ever wish you could have access to weather conditions right in your backyard? Now you practically can with an individual weather reporter right in our neighborhood. Find it at this website: www.wunderground. com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KTXHOUST159
Residents are asked to refrain from parking in the street whenever possible. Aside from creating a traffic safety hazard, it may also be difficult for your neighbors to enter and exit their driveways.
Have You Returned Your IRIS Registration Form?
CenterPoint Energy maintains streetlights throughout our community. To report a streetlight outage, visit the website below: www.centerpointenergy.com/services/electricity/business/ electricsafety/reportastreetlightoutage/
If not, what are you waiting for? The Immediate Response Information System (IRIS) will be used to send reminders to residents of upcoming community events as well as distribute emergency information such as boil water notices, evacuation information or other public safety issues. Thus far approximately 50% of Copper Village residents have returned the registration form. All residents are encouraged to register. If you’ve misplaced your form, please contact Trinh Basarabescu (713-984-7217) at AMI.
Trees and Sidewalk Maintenance
Homeowners are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring trees growing on their property (this includes trees planted on corner lots that are not in the front of the property) are properly trimmed and do not hang low over sidewalks or the street. In addition, homeowners are responsible for maintaining sidewalks along their property. Homeowners could be held liable for any injury that occurs as a result of overhanging limbs or sidewalk deterioration.

Vandalism – Reward!
The Copper Village Homeowner’s Association continues to offer a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for vandalism that occurs in our neighborhood. If you witness individuals vandalizing community property or behaving in a suspicious manner, please contact the Harris County Sheriff’s department as soon as possible; their main phone number is 713-221-6000. If all of us remain vigilant we can take the necessary actions to protect our community property – and keep your costs as low as possible!
Architectural Guidelines
Are you planning to repaint your house? Make some changes to your landscaping? Thinking about installing a pool? Before you begin, check out the Architectural Guidelines for our community, which are available on our website (www.coppervillage.org, click on “documents,” then “governing documents”), which provide guidance in the following areas: • General guidelines • Fences • Swimming pools and spas • Outbuildings • Patio covers • Patio enclosures • Decks • Exterior lighting • Painting • Roofing materials and additions • Miscellaneous items, including birdhouses, windows/door awnings, antennae, garage conversions, basketball goals, sunrooms, signs, solar screens/window tint, trees, skateboard ramps, topiaries, exterior siding, flag poles, storm windows/doors, burglar bars, landscaping and window coverings. If you are planning any changes/additions in any of these areas, a request for home improvement must be submitted. If changes/ additions are not approved, homeowners may be required to take whatever action is required to be in compliance with the guidelines at their own expense. Please provide any feedback regarding additional clarification for the Guidelines to the board at CopperVillageCA-0296@amitx.com
GARDENING TIPS FOR DECEMBER
• If a long flowering period is desired, pansies should be placed in their permanent beds not later than this month. Fertilize monthly with manure, super-phosphate or a liquid high-phosphate product. Keep flowers picked for more bloom.

• Take tulips out of cold storage and plant late this month. • Fertilize established trees, spring-blooming shrubs, spurias and sweet peas (after they are a foot tall) with a fertilizer such as 13-1313; Louisiana iris with cotton seed meal and manure. • Azaleas and camellias may be moved now. Keep moist to lesson cold weather damage. May acidify again. • Last month to plant early blossoming spring bulbs, speciosum and other varieties of lilies. Mulch. • Water plants well before a freeze; dry roots are easily damaged. • Don’t forget to provide food and fresh water for birds. More birds die from lack of water than lack of food.

CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION HONORS MILITARY HEROES
The Foundation will kick off its fifth “Salute to Our Heroes” event on February 9, 2013 at the Omni Hotel Westside Houston. “Salute to Our Heroes” honors the brave men and women who have served to preserve our freedom and liberty. Proceeds from this event go to an endowment enabling graduating students from CFISD to attend college. The event will be generously underwritten by Earthcare Management and Kodiak Gas Services, as the Missing Man Underwriters. The Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital will be the Major General Sponsor. This year our guest speaker is Steve Russell. LTC Steve Russell (Ret.) commanded the central unit responsible in the hunt and capture of Saddam Hussein. Through leadership and joint efforts across multiple teams, a large organization worked effectively to capture one of the world’s most notorious criminals. Russell is an American Hero. His proven leadership and problem-resolution techniques engage audiences through his storytelling.
6
Salute to Our Heroes has two purposes. First, to give tribute to our heroes - soldiers serving now, veterans and those who have been wounded or killed in action. We want to honor those who have served their country. The second purpose is to raise funds for scholarships for Cy-Fair ISD students. Each year we give three scholarships per Cy-Fair ISD high school, and the number of high schools is growing. It has been a challenge keeping up with the demand, but CFEF is dedicated to this mission. The inaugural event honors Jersey Village High School graduate 1st Lt. Jeremy E. Ray, who was killed Dec. 20, 2007 while serving his country in Iraq. A CFEF endowment was established in Jeremy’s memory by an anonymous donor. Last year the 1st Lieutenant Jeremy Ray Community Service and Peace Award was presented to Klein Funeral Homes & Memorials. Following tradition, the event will have the Missing Man Table & Honors Ceremony. The table will have empty table settings with chairs leaning up against the table as though saved for someone. The table settings have a single red rose displayed in a vase in reminder of the bloodshed for our country and the vase was tied with a red ribbon - a symbol of the continued pledge to shed blood for our country. A slice of lemon on the bread plate is a reminder of the bitterness of the loss of comrades in arms; a bowl of salt to symbolize the tears shed by family members of lost loved ones and glasses turned upside down indicate no one will sit there. Last year’s ceremony was performed by the 75th Army Division Honor Guard and was proceeded by Taps performed by William Veenstra, Cy-Fair High School Senior. For more information on the 2013 event please contact Marie Holmes at marie@thecfef.org or 281-807-3591.

CFISD STUDENTS SWEEP CUPCAKE BATTLE
CFISD culinary students had an impressive display at the Greater Houston Area Cupcake Battle, sponsored by the Hospitality Educators Association of Texas and held last November at Pasadena Rayburn High School. The students swept first through third places and took home two other superlatives at the event, which featured approximately 140 entries from high school students in greater Houston. Cy-Fair High School senior Kaylen Gonzalez won first place for her “Reese’s Cupcake,” followed by Cy-Fair senior Phillip Morado in second place for his “Triple Chocolate Pistachio Cupcake.” Cypress Ridge High School senior Nancy Lopez placed third for her “Mocha Cupcake.” Cypress Woods High School sophomore Shelby Richey won the award in the Best Cake category for “The Turtle Cupcake” and Cypress Springs High School senior Ajee Hayes won the award in the Most Elaborate Technique category for her “Peach Cobbler Cupcake.”
Cy-Fair High School senior Kaylen Gonzalez, right, displays her firstplace trophy from the Greater Houston Area Cupcake Battle, held at Pasadena Rayburn High School.
Copper Village
“Congratulations to the CFISD culinary students, who took five of the eight awards. It is a remarkable achievement to have their cupcakes chosen from the approximately 140 entries,” said career and technical education coordinator Mark Williams. “These students and their teachers worked diligently and their hard work paid off.”

CYPRESS FALLS HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR
‘Tis the season for rejoicing in shining fashion! Our choir family had a wonderful opportunity to shine with its A Cappella choir on October 30th. Several choirs in the state of Texas were in attendance at Sam Houston State University in their Performing Arts Center for an imitational concert. Each choir had it’s own unique style and the evening was topped off by the college choirs delightful pieces. The solos and accompanists were an impressive touch and the crowd pleasing show closer was Queen’s “Somebody to Love.” It was an honor to be invited and we thank SHSU director Mr. Franklin for including our choir in this program.

We thank Becks Prime for their generous donation, which allowed the girls to feast upon guacamole and salsa to their hearts content! The men’s lock in was equally a great bonding experience. Chips and queso disappeared like magic! Thanks to the parents that helped by sending in snack foods, treats and their warm personalities as chaperones for our young men and women. WE LOVE OUR PARENT VOLUNTEERS! Our students push themselves vocally by competing against the finest high school singers as they attempt to move towards the Texas State choir. At this point in time, we would like to recognize those members that have joined the Regional choir: Trevor Reagor, Grace Bracher, Diana Luu, Taylor Shaunfield and Scott Johnson. Making Regional and moving on to Pre Area auditions are: Katie Ferrigan, Abi Amadin, Marguerite Lavin, Sarah McIntyre, Elyse White, Tate Brown, Evan Moynihan, John Rooney, Tyler Denton, Brandon Zachary, Lauren Lafferty, Jordan Svehla, Venessa Clarke, Alicia McCormick, Thomas Kang and Ronald Pabello. WAY TO GO EAGLES!!! Outstanding job, congratulations! Our year will culminate in a vocal extravaganza for the holiday season. The holiday concert will be December 11th in the school auditorium. Traditional Christmas will be the theme of affair and our students look so wonderful in their gowns and tuxedos. This delight for the soul in sound is one concert you won’t want to miss. Mark your calendars now and plan to attend. We assure that you will return to the season uplifted with a song in your heart! Have a blessed season, enjoy those you love, treasure your moments and we will see you next year!

CY-FALLS VOLLEYBALL COACH CELEBRATES 500TH VICTORY
Cypress Falls High School head volleyball coach Kathy Stephenson celebrated her 500th career victory following a bi-district playoff win over Alief Elsik High School in Alief on Oct. 30th. Stephenson began her path to 500 when she helped open Cypress Falls in the school’s first varsity season in 1993. Her career record now stands at 500 - 244, following the Eagles’ exit from the postseason on Nov. 2nd. “It’s a huge milestone,” Stephenson said. “I’m very proud that each one of those has been with Cy-Falls. I’m proud of the coaching staff and the student athletes who have come through the program throughout these last 20 years, as well as the Cy-Falls administration and parents. Everyone has been so supportive and instrumental in helping make this possible.” Following the victory, her team surprised her with a “500 Wins” t-shirt and banner and campus athletic coordinator Kirk Eaton presented Stephenson with a commemorative “500 Wins” volleyball that was signed by the players and marked with the date and score of the milestone-clinching game. Stephenson said she was aware of the approaching 500th victory, but had kept it a secret from the team until later in the season. “When the secret got out, the team really rallied around that and put a lot of pressure on themselves to make sure they were a part of it,” she said. “That last game was a do-or-die situation; if it didn’t happen then, it would have to be next year. They pressed hard in that game to make sure they got the win.” Stephenson began coaching in 1980 upon graduating from college. She said her career has been filled with memorable achievements, none greater than winning the Class 5A state championship with the Lady Eagles in 2000 alongside current assistant coaches Pam McRae and Cary Stengler. “That was a very special, driven and talented group and winning a state championship is pretty much the top moment in any coach’s career or life,” she said. “That’s the best memory of all amidst a lot of great memories. My players always ask, ‘Coach, how can you remember all these stories?’ and I say, ‘Because they’re great stories.’ This one (victory No. 500) was really cool, too.”

Kimberly Akimbo is a play written in 2000 by Pulitzer prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. Thus, Kimberly is trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman. She meets another misfit (a teenage boy) and the two form an attachment to one another that borders on attraction. The situation is not helped by Kimberly’s rapidly deteriorating health. Soon Kimberly’s family gets mixed up in some crazy money schemes and the family gets emotionally destroyed. Through December 15, 2012, (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday). All performances begin at 8 pm. Price- $18 regular/ $10 students and seniors. The Church is organized geographically into stakes, which are similar to a Catholic diocese. In his new assignment, President Lauck will preside over 12 congregations in Cypress, Waller, Fairfield, Bridgeland, Tomball and Northwest Houston. Stake presidents typically serve for approximately 9-10 years and come from a variety of backgrounds. President Lauck was raised in the Sugarland/Missouri City area. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Currently he resides in Northwest Houston and is a business development manager with Shell Oil Company, where he has worked for over 21 years. The Church has no salaried ministry, so President Lauck will continue to work full time while fulfilling his new ecclesiastical responsibilities. He and his wife, Leanne, have been married for 23 years. Houston has been their home for 14 of those years. They have three children - one currently serving a two-year church mission in New York, one attending college and one a student in Cy-Fair I.S.D.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through December. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.
