CY-FAIR WOMEN’S CLUB WOMEN SERVING THE COMMUNITY
NMLS#217251
Copperfield Place Village (CPV) A WORD FROM THE BOARD
CWC is a service organization that gives back to the community, so all funds raised will go right back to the community in scholarships for graduating high school seniors, at Lone Star College, Cy-Fair and grants to other non-profits in our community as well.
The Board meets every other month at SCS’s offices. The next meeting will be held in September. Call SCS for specific time and date and or if you would like to address the Board for any issues at the meeting. SCS can then put your name on the agenda. We always welcome homeowners to our meetings. You may also find any news or minutes of our Board meetings on the website.
Membership for the Cy-Fair Women’s Club is open to all ladies in Northwest Houston/Cypress neighborhoods. Currently we meet the first Thursday of most months at West Houston Church of Christ. Our meetings begin with social time and refreshments at 7:00 PM, immediately followed by a program at 7:30 PM. The church is located at the corner of Queenston and West Road.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: As of January 1st, the Community Center will no longer handle pool cards. This is now being handled directly by SCS Management. All other issues, such as the baseball field reservations and room reservations, remain the same. For house paint specs, roof specs or anything pertaining to deed restrictions will be handled by SCS and colors can be found on the Copperfield website, www.copperfield.org.
Our monthly meetings are not only educational and enjoyable, but they develop lasting fellowships. We look forward to meeting you there! Please contact Susan McLeroy, Membership Chair at sudomac@comcast.net if you have any questions about our club or need directions to the church.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?
We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through August. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

CHIROPRACTIC HEALTH and WELLNESS CENTER (EC) COPPERFIELD NEWSLETTER - ON THE GO
Homeowners need to scan their property and dispose of or remedy anything causing standing water. The eggs that mosquitoes lay in rainwater hatch in as little as two days. Tip over buckets or containers, flowerpots with reservoirs, toys, boats, wheelbarrows, birdbaths and wading pools. Clean clogged roof gutters; fill in low areas of the yard that collects water, dispose of leaf piles and chlorinate pools. Treat water in fountains or water gardens if the water does not flow on a regular basis.

(EC) APPROVED EXTERIOR PAINT COLORS
Easton Commons has updated the approved paint colors for the neighborhood. A copy of the new colors are available at the Copperfield Community Center (15409 Willow River Drive), Sherwin Williams (5814 Hwy. 6 N.) and at Graham Management’s office (12000 Westheimer Rd.). Many existing colors have been removed from the approved color list, homeowners will need to check prior to repainting.
(EC) MOSQUITO CONTROL
Although the Easton Commons HOA has mosquito control come through regularly during the summer, it is not enough to get rid of them completely. The summer months can be uncomfortable, due to all of the biting insects. One of the best ways to prevent mosquitoes is to eliminate their breeding grounds. Controlling mosquitoes also minimizes the risk of mosquito-borne diseases, including St. Louis encephalitis and West Nile Virus encephalitis.

(EC) NATURE PARK
The Easton Commons Nature Park, located on the corner of West Road and Easton Commons Drive/Chetland Place Drive, is a beautiful park. The Nature Park currently offers a fishing pond, bird watching, playscapes for different age groups, walking paths that take you along a refreshing natural landscape and a place to seek peace of mind. Many do not know that the Nature Park is not owned, managed, operated or funded by the Easton Commons HOA: it is owned solely by M.U.D. 179. The inception, planning and funding of the park was entirely conducted by M.U.D. 179. Funding for the park is earned mostly from The Strategic Partnership (S.P.A. 30-year contract) with the City Of Houston and Bond money refunded into M.U.D. 179 from the West Harris County Regional Water Authority (W.H.C.R.W.A.). Although the Easton Commons HOA has no ownership of the park, the neighborhood benefits from this public park. The Nature Park, being purchased property, prohibits businesses from developing in that area, creates a green space that helps keep our air clean, adds a safe walking path that we originally did not have and is a safe place for our families to play and enjoy those small moments in life. Rules are posted on the bulletin board at the park and soon will be followed with posted signs at each entrance; restrooms are available for use during park hours. The park is designed to be used by the public and M.U.D. 179 does not schedule events or usage of the pavilion. All space in the park is on a first come basis. Please share space with others if at all possible. Thank You MUD #179 for giving back and including residents desires and needs into your plans.

GARBAGE CANS MUST BE STORED OUT OF SIGHT! It is a violation of deed restrictions to leave cans in view on non-garbage pick-up days. There is a fine assessed for each violation notice a resident receives. This is a growing problem in our neighborhood. Deed Restriction investigators are going to become more vigilant in citing the homes in violation. You are encouraged to report homes that are chronic violators to Graham Management. Southcreek Village (SC) A NEW SCHOOL YEAR
A new school year will be starting soon (last week of August). Please be mindful of the children walking to and from school and to and from their bus stops. The mornings are the most dangerous for our children as this is the time the majority of people are heading to work. It is also about daybreak. As the days are getting shorter and before daylight savings time ends, they will be walking in the dark. Please watch your speed and come to a complete stop at stop signs. Watch for children on foot and riding bikes. Please do not use your cell phone while driving through the neighborhood and never text while driving. School zones will also become active once again. Remember it is illegal to use a cell phone while in a school zone.

Please call 713-2216000 and once the recording starts, press “1.” Inform “dispatch” that you are reporting a suspicious person or suspicious activity in the Southcreek Village Park. Please report outages of streetlights to Centerpoint Energy. Get the pole number, as well as the nearest Street address and call 713-207-2222.
(SC) TRASH & RECYCLING PICKUP
Southcreek trash pickup is on Tuesdays and Fridays. Southcreek has backdoor pickup. This means that our trashcans may be placed at the back of our driveway. We do not have to have our trashcans at the curb. Big items such as yard clippings and tree branches should be placed at the curb. Our deed restrictions state that all trash, including grass clippings, cannot be on the curb until 6 PM the night before pickup and your trashcans must be picked up from the curb by 6 PM, the day of pickup. So… you cannot have trash on the curb until Monday and Thursday nights until 6 PM and everything must be removed from the curb by 6 PM on Tuesdays and Fridays. This includes any bags that contain lawn clippings. If you have a lawn service, have them place the bags behind your fence and not leave the clippings on the curb. Our recycling day is Tuesday. Please have your recycling bin at the curb by 7 AM on Tuesdays. Please pick up your recycling by 6 PM on Tuesdays to comply with our deed restrictions.

WESTCREEK CRIME WATCH COMMITTEE Meetings - 3rd Monday at 6 PM Forest Heights Pool Meeting Room
(WC) BLOCK CAPTAINS & NATIONAL NIGHT OUT (NNO)
Westcreek still needs block captains. If you want to know if your street has a block captain or you would like to volunteer to be a block captain, contact Larry Berger at larry.berger@energytransfer.com. Our crime watch committee is already planning the 2015 NNO that happens the first Tuesday in October (10/06/2015) by gathering donations for raffle items to encourage participation. If you like more information about NNO in Westcreek or you would like to donate an item for NNO, please contact Larry Berger. REMEMBER: NNO is a great way to get to know your neighbors!
(WC) GET TO KNOW YOUR WCWC MEMBER
Bill Schindler has been a member of the Westcreek Crime Watch Committee (WCWC) for 5 years and during this time he has been instrumental in keeping the bulletin boards located at each pool updated with current information. Along with being a block captain, Bill hosts National Night Out (NNO) gatherings and a spring fling at his home and he has hosted a Christmas party and a Memorial Celebration in honor of former member Genevieve Fisher for WCWC members. All these events Bill has hosted has resulted in a neighborly camaraderie. Along with soliciting donations for NNO, Bill helps post and take down the banners and signs to remind everyone NNO is taking place. Bill feels the best part of being on the WCWC committee is that the members work together and function as a unified group. He only wishes more neighbors would find a committee which interests them and simply donate an hour a month in order for Copperfield to be a stronger community. Retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2008 and a Navy Veteran, Bill and Randy moved to Westcreek in November 2000. Bill has served on the Westcreek Homeowners Association Board of Directors for 3 years. An avid gardener and frequent yard-of-the-month first place winner, he has also served on Westcreek’s Landscape Committee. He would love to see a Garden Club that focuses on backyard gardening. This group of interested neighbors would meet in each other’s backyards and exchange plants and information in a casual, social environment. For 5 years he was a hospice volunteer. Bill attends Crossbridge Christian Church and has 2 grown sons and a three-year-old granddaughter. Truly Westcreek is fortunate to have Bill Schindler as part of its community for his volunteer spirit and his dedication to making our neighborhood a safer and friendly place to live.

(WC) YARD OF THE MONTH
The Yard of the Month program continues as we are now well into summer. Many Westcreek residents have been working hard as their yards have taken shape nicely! July winners were as follows: 1st: 17318 Emerald Isle 2nd: 17126 Crown Meadow 3rd: 7206 High Knoll Great job to all those selected!
(WC) GARDENING TIPS LAWN & TREE CARE
August is one of the most important months for lawn care. Heat, lack of rain, weed control, insect infestation (visible and not visible) and fungus issues can really take hold and begin doing more damage this month than any other month. A few basic steps can really make a difference in maintain a vibrant and healthy lawn & garden now, as well as preparing your yard for the cooler months: • Mow tall - taller grass allows shade to the root system that prevents drying out as we march through these hot, sometimes dry days. If you are cutting your lawn short you are likely fighting a losing battle to retain moisture and achieve a green, lush lawn.
Copperfield
281-256-8808 • Water regularly - irrigate your lawn 2 or 3 times each week adequately, but not to the point of over-watering. Developing a healthy lawn can be achieved by adequate scheduled watering, which promotes a positive growth cycle and prevents a lawn that is perpetually “recovering” from the lack of moisture experienced between watering sessions. • Brown Patch - avoid this fungal disease by not over-feeding your lawn with a high nitrogen fertilizer during the time. The fungus that causes brown patch thrives in lush turf that is over-watered and rich in nitrogen. Utilize a product like Daconil or Banner to control the spread now, before the cooler months of September and October really promote fungus growth. • Fighting thinner or patchy grass in shady areas? Fine bladed fescue varieties may perform better in areas of your yard that are sunlight challenged. Remember, most lawns are a variety of more than one grass already - your lawn is most likely not 100% St. Augustine. Introducing a fescue variety in shaded areas will not result in a “patchwork quilt” appearance if proper feeding and irrigation occurs and your bare areas will begin to blend with current growth. Just take care to utilize fertilizers as well as weed control agents that are compatible with the finer varieties, as not all are! • Cinch bugs will be looking to destroy your lawn between now and October. The most effective pesticide to apply is a liquid spray containing permethrin, cypermethrin or deltamethrin. This must be applied 3 separate times within a 21 day period - the egg cycle the chinch bugs leave behind must be killed, otherwise they will return. A liquid product will permeate all areas better and more effectively than a granular product, ensuring the infestation is defeated. • If you are unsure of their presence, take a coffee can or similar container and remove the top and bottom of the can, creating a hollow cylinder. Then embed the can in an affected area and fill with water. If chinch bugs are present they will rise to the top of the water within the can. • Westcreek has seen a very large increase in the number of snails as well as slugs this summer. These pests unfortunately are not controlled by most common pesticides. Use of a metaldehyde or iron phosphate product can help control these annoying pests. Available products include; Bug-Geta, Deadline, Slugggo, Slug Magic and Escar-go! can be obtained to control these pests. Table salt also works well, but is often impractical to use as salt levels in soil can become elevated, preventing plant growth. Using a 5-10% dilution of household ammonia (at night or after a rainstorm) can also be an effective deterrent if applied directly to the pest from a manual sprayer. • High humidity and wet weather is always accompanied by mosquitos. Help control the population by regularly misting your foliage or treating your lawn with a pest control product like Triazicide. Use of tablets like Mosquito Dunks in standing water areas or left in rain gutters will help prevent breeding grounds for these pests to spring from.

DIRECTIONS: To Make Crust: In a small bowl, mix together crushed cookies and melted butter. Press mixture into a 9 inch pie pan using your hands or the back of a spoon. Refrigerate until firm. Scouts COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL
Girl Scouts in Copper Creek Meadows Community have been having a great time at San Jacinto Council’s resident, day and twilight camps! Camp is a wonderful place to meet new friends and share Girl Scout traditions. Sailing at Camp Casa Mare, canoeing and swimming at Camp Agnes Arnold and horseback riding at Camp Misty Meadows are only some of the camp experiences girls in our Council can enjoy. “I can’t wait to get back” was one comment from a first time camper. Many of the day and twilight camps this year had a “safari” theme and might have included survival skills, archery, swimming, a cookout and maybe even a sleepover! Camp wouldn’t be camp without songs, crafts and games and special snacks like s’mores and banana boats!

Earn a degree. Not debt.
Soon it will be time for us to start anew Girl Scout year and also to welcome new Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place- and we have been doing it for over 100 years! Many things have changed since 1912 - Girl Scouts today are more likely to be building robots than ironing hair ribbons! - but our core values are strong and enduring.
LSC-CyFair offers affordable and flexible options!
Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 17 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scout programs are geared to their particular age levels and interests. Don’t forget that many of our most exciting opportunities are available to older girls! Girls may join at any level and no previous Scouting experience is required. Older girls whose schedules do not allow for participation in a troop or group may still want to participate as “Juliettes” (individual Girl Scouts). We have many special interest groups for activities such as backpacking, archery, horseback riding and sailing. Our Council also has several choirs and a dance group, the Green Starlettes. San Jacinto Council also offers special programs and events and so does Area 4 (the portion of the Council, which includes Copper Creek Meadows Community).
Registration now under way!
Associate degrees, workforce certificates and more!

Please be on the lookout for information on Girl Scout Rally nights (when we recruit new leaders and form new troops) and registration at area schools. The San Jacinto Council website should also have information. We are ALWAYS looking for adults to be troop leaders and volunteers. You don’t have to be Superwoman or Ranger Rick - you don’t even have to have children! You do have to be interested in working with girls, pass a background check and go through some training. Lots more training is available, but you only need a little to get started. We also need people with skills and special interests who might be willing to share them with your young neighbors. Sometimes we just need people who are willing to be there and decorate the cafeteria, hand out programs, make popcorn or measure the standing broad jump! We’d love to talk to you about volunteering!

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.
Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly. Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley, Horne, Jowell, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan, Tipps, Walker and Wilson.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR DREAM DACHSHUND RESCUE
DREAM Dachshund Rescue, Education & Adoption Mission is a Houstonbased 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing abandoned Dachshunds and finding new homes for Dachshunds whose owners can no longer care for them. Our committed volunteers, working closely with local veterinarians, provide our Dachshunds with quality medical care and loving foster homes until they are adopted into carefully screened, forever homes. DREAM is currently looking for caring volunteers to provide temporary foster care for our many rescued Dachshunds-in-need, currently awaiting adoption. Prior to their adoption, DREAM continues to pay for all medical care and monthly heart worm prevention. There is no long-term commitment required. Food, water, shelter and a soft place to rest is all you need to provide. The “love” just comes naturally. If you have a little room in your heart and in your home (and your family pets are up-to-date on their vaccines and monthly heart worm preventative), then you are who we are looking for! There is no feeling in the world like the unconditional love you’ll receive from a rescued Dachshund, plus the friendships you’ll make when you join the DREAM Team! The more foster homes we have, the more Dachshunds we can save. Please help save a life and consider fostering today!

PETS
Talkative cat looking for a loving home! Benjamin is a shorthaired brown tabby cat, whose human mom recently died. He’s about 3 years old, he likes to sleep with his humans at night and he loves attention. Benjamin is pretty shy and gets easily startled, but he likes to go outside for a bit, as long as he can run right back in at the first sign of danger! He would do best in a quiet household because of his dislike of loud or sudden noises and he would love to be an only cat. Benjamin is up-to-date on rabies & flea treatment, litter-box trained and neutered. Contact 281-250-3266 to arrange a meeting. Lucy in the sky with diamonds! Tiny senior female short hair tuxedo cat needs a home after her human mom recently died. Lucy is 13 years old and still loves to play with string and cat toys. Lucy’s coat is super soft and she likes tummy rubs, sleeping with her humans and lots of love. Lucy would do well in a quiet household and she would love to be the only pet so she gets lots of playtime and attention! She is up-to-date on rabies & flea treatment, litter-box trained and spayed. Contact 281-250-3266 to arrange a meeting.
