COPPERFIELD CRIME WATCH
Happy Holiday’s Copperfield! Because of YOU, Copperfield is experiencing statistically record low crime. At the same time, we are experiencing a record high number of calls for suspicious person/vehicles. In other words, when YOU call in suspicious behavior/activity, crime goes down in Copperfield! If you see any suspicious persons/activity, call the Sheriff’s Department at 713-221-6000, option 1. For all emergencies, please call 911.
COPPERFIELD WEBSITE
Will you be going away and want the Sheriff’s Department to check on your home while you’re gone? If so, you can print a Vacation Watch Form from the website. Simply go to www.copperfield.org and follow the link to the Online Forms and Documents. Other forms on the site include Architectural Control Committee Applications and a Deputy Request Form. The site also includes a Lost/Found Pet page, listings of local area daycares and places of worship, schedule of upcoming Board of Director

Membership for the Cy-Fair Women’s Club is open to all ladies in Northwest Houston/Cypress neighborhoods. Currently we meet the first Thursday of most months at West Houston Church of Christ. Our meetings begin with social time and refreshments at 7:00 PM immediately followed by a program at 7:30 PM. The church is located at the corner of Queenston and West Road. Our monthly meetings are not only educational and enjoyable, but they develop lasting fellowships. We look forward to meeting you there! Please contact Susan McLeroy, Membership Chair at sudomac@comcast.net if you have any questions about our club or need directions to the church.

COPPERFIELD CRIME WATCH
SAFETY FIRST – HOLIDAY SAFETY TIPS FOR SHOPPERS The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) reminds holiday shoppers to keep safety in mind as they hunt for those last-minute bargains. The organization best known for its icon McGruff the Crime Dog has tips to help you shop safely while getting those great holiday bargains. SHOPPING IN STORES • Do not buy more than you can carry. Plan ahead by taking a friend with you or ask a store employee to help you carry your packages to the car. • Save all receipts. Print and save all confirmations from your online purchases. Start a file folder to keep all receipts together and to help you verify credit card or bank statements as they come in. • Consider alternate options to pay for your merchandise, such as one time or multiuse disposable credit cards or money orders, at online stores and auction sites. • Wait until asked before taking out your credit card or checkbook. An enterprising thief would love to shoulder surf to get your account information. • Tell a security guard or store employee if you see an unattended bag or package. The same applies if you are using mass transit. WALKING TO AND FROM YOUR CAR • Deter pickpockets. Carry your purse close to your body or your wallet inside a coat or front trouser pocket. • Have your keys in hand when approaching your vehicle. Check the back seat and around the car before getting in. • Do not leave packages visible in your car windows. Lock them in the trunk or if possible, take them directly home. SHOPPING WITH SMALL CHILDREN • If you are shopping with small children, make a plan in case you are separated from each other. Select a meeting place. • Teach them to know they can ask mall personnel or store security employees if they need help. SHOPPING ON-LINE • Before surfing the Internet, secure your personal computers by updating your security software. Everyone’s computer should have anti-virus, antispyware and anti-spam software, as well as a good firewall installed. • Keep your personal information private and your password secure. Do not respond to requests to “verify” your password or credit card information unless you initiated the contact. Legitimate businesses will not contact you in this manner. • Beware of “bargains” from companies with whom you are unfamiliar. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! • Use secure websites for purchases. Look for the icon of a locked padlock at the bottom of the screen or “https” in the URL address.

POOL & PARKS COMMITTEE
The Green Belt area has had trees removed because they were in growing within the easement of the gas pipe lines. Pampas grass was trimmed back and all the debris removed. We may have to remove some of the pear trees around the cul-d-sacs and the pool and park area due to decaying and disease. Most pear trees actually only have a life span of 15 years before branches start decaying and dying.

(CPV) DEED RESTRICTIONS
NOTE: TAKE CARE OF VIOLATION IF YOU RECEIVE A LETTER FROM SCS MANAGEMENT! YOUR ACCOUNT IS CHARGED IF A SECOND LETTER IS SENT OUT AFTER THE NEXT SCHEDULED DRIVE THRU AND YOU ARE CITED AGAIN! PARKING & DEED RESTRICTION VIOLATIONS: There have been several citations against homeowners with inoperable vehicles on their driveway. Inoperable vehicles cannot be parked in any one place longer than 24 hrs. You must have valid tags or inspection sticker on your vehicle parked on the street or it can be tagged for towing. It is allowable to park your vehicle in the street; however, DO NOT park it in such a way that emergency vehicles cannot drive through or block wheel chair accessibility! Fire trucks are not able to get through when vehicles are parked on BOTH sides of the street and it becomes too narrow. Some homeowners are parking at the end of the cul-de-sacs and not allowing people access to get their mail. These vehicles can and will be towed in an emergency at the homeowner’s expense. LANDSCAPING AND YARDS: HOMES HAVE BEEN CITED FOR NOT MAINTAINING THEIR YARDS: Planting of shrubs, palms, etc. on corner lots must be kept trimmed at all times. There have been areas sited where it was difficult to see upcoming vehicles even on the sidewalks due to the untrimmed shrubs. This is very dangerous and can cause accidents.
(CPV) APPROVALS FOR MODIFICATIONS/ADDITIONS/CHANGES
REMINDER THAT NO CHANGES CAN BE MADE WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL FROM THE ACC COMMITTEE! FORMS NEED TO BE FILLED OUT AND SUBMITTED FOR PRIOR APPROVAL. Roofing, painting, landscaping or any major changes must be approved by the Architectural Review Board. If you are not sure of the deed restrictions or

what colors are allowable under the current deed restrictions, please contact SCS Management at 281-463-1777. Many homes are in desperate need of painting or mildew cleaning! Any modification of the front yard, etc. that is out of the ordinary, should be approved before landscaping with the Architectural Board Committee at SCS. Please trim ALL bushes, trees, shrubs that are planted in the cross corner lots /section of the street! These must be kept trimmed and maintained for a good, safe view of incoming traffic at all times! SCS will be looking closely at all intersections during their drive through to insure that this is in compliance with the deed restrictions. There has been reported instances where palms, trees or large shrubbery is overgrown and not providing a safe view of the cross intersection. You may obtain your form for Architectural Board approval by visiting the Copperfield website at www.copperfield.org or contact SCS.
Easton Commons Village (EC) VACANCY ON THE HOMEOWNER’S ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS
There will be a vacancy on the Homeowner’s Association Board of Directors beginning in January of 2014. Persons interested in serving on the Board should call Jessica Riggs at 281-500-7111 or send a letter expressing your desire to serve on the Board to Jessica Riggs’ attention at SCS Management Services, Inc., 7170 Cherry Park Drive, Houston, TX 77095 or fax the letter to 281-5007160. The election to fill this vacancy will be held at the annual homeowner’s meeting at Copperfield Community Center on Tuesday, January 14, 2014.
(EC) A VISIT FROM SANTA CLAUS
Santa has graciously agreed to visit from the North Pole again. Currently plans are for him to visit on Saturday, Dec. 7th, at 10:00 AM. He should be arriving in a Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department fire truck with a Sheriff’s Department escort. There will be “reindeer” food, hot chocolate and other goodies.
(EC) ANNUAL ASSESSMENTS
Residents should be receiving statements for their annual assessments soon, if they have not already arrived. The assessment fees have gone up

from $490 to $500. This represents a two per cent increase over last year’s assessment, which remained unchanged from the year before. The increase addresses the increased cost of providing services to our village and taking care of financial obligations. Our assessment remains one of the lowest in Copperfield.
(EC) EMAIL LISTING
Join our Email network at easton.commons@yahoo.com. Just send an Email message requesting to be added and you will be.
(EC) GARAGE SALE
The community garage sale held on Saturday, October 26th, was a great success. A number of residents participated. Current plans are for another such event to be held in the spring.
(EC) TRASH PICK UP REMINDER
Trash pick up days are Tuesdays for trash and Fridays for trash and recycling. Trash receptacles must be stored out of sight. They must be placed at the curb no earlier than the evening before scheduled pick up and removed not later than the day of pick up. This means that bags that are filled and placed on the street after lawn service on Wednesday must be removed until Thursday evening.
(EC) CRIME WATCH
The Block Captain Program is off and running in Easton Commons. Block Captains may be coming around to your doors and introducing themselves as Block Captains. It will not hurt their feelings if you ask for confirmation that they are who they say they are. Once you have become convinced of their authenticity, please cooperate to the extent that keeps you comfortable. Interested persons should send an email to Ken Johnson at admin@ eccrimewatch.com.
(EC) DEED RESTRICTIONS
Every month SCS Management rides through Easton Commons to check for Deed Restriction violations. The Deed Restrictions set the standard on how our property is taken care of. A well maintained community will impact the property value of your home, which is most likely the largest investment you have.

(EC) WATER ISSUES
The Board of Directors of MUD 179 and H2O Consulting have asked that residents take care in the disposal of cleaning items such as “Baby Wipes” or other similar products. Please do not flush such items down the toilet. These types of items do not easily decompose in the sewage system and can and have stopped up drainage pipes at the waste water facility. Such stoppages can make expensive repairs necessary and may result in an increase in water/waste water rates.

It would be great if we could have some new volunteers to help, as it is usually the same residents judging every year. If you are looking for a way to get into the holiday spirit, this is it! If you can help, please email webmaster@middlegatevillage.org. Thanks so much for your consideration!
(MG) ANIMAL CONTROL If you are having trouble with stray or loose cats and dogs, you can call the Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services office at 281-9993191 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
(MG) HOA ASSESSMENTS
It has been (3) three years since the last increase, but due to rising costs including CCA assessments (Copperfield Community Association covering the Harris County Sheriff’s contract and common area maintenance of fences, landscaping and parks) that were absorbed in previous years, the Board voted to increase Middlegate’s assessments approximately 5 percent. Statements will be mailed in November. Please watch for the statement in your mail, due January 1, 2014.
(MG) TRASH REMINDERS
Please store your trash cans out of view from the street. Behind a fence, works well. Also, if you have lawn clippings from mowing, ask your lawn service to leave them back by the fence so you don’t have to haul them so far to get them out of sight. If they are left at the curb for days before trash pick up, then they are visible to everyone driving down the street or trying to walk around them on the sidewalk. Imagine if every house stored a sack of trash at the curb all the time, no thanks. Please do your part in keeping Middlegate beautiful. Thank you!
(MG) BOARD MEETINGS
The next meeting of the Middlegate Village Board of Directors will be on Tuesday, December 3rd, at 6:00 PM, at the Copperfield Community Center, 15409 Willow River Drive. Call SCS Management at 281-463-1777 to be placed on the agenda. All homeowners are welcome.

Northmead Village (NM) GARBAGE CANS
GARBAGE CANS MUST BE STORED OUT OF SIGHT! It is a violation of deed restrictions to leave cans in view on non-garbage pick-up days. There is a fine assessed for each violation notice a resident receives. This is a growing problem in our neighborhood. Deed Restriction investigators are going to become more vigilant in citing the homes in violation. You are encouraged to report homes that are chronic violators to Graham Management. A link to contact Graham Management is also on the Copperfield website. You will remain anonymous. Your reports are appreciated.
(NM) HOME IMPROVEMENT REQUIREMENTS
Before making improvements or changes that may be effected by our Deed Restrictions, call Graham Management at 281-497-4320. They will advise you and provide the form you will need for approval of your renovation. Please do not put yourself in the unfortunate position of incurring unnecessary costs to rectify a change that was not approved.
(NM) COPPERFIELD WEBSITE
Northmead has a link on the Copperfield.org website. Information is regularly being added to the page. Please email wendy.williamson@sbcglobal.net if you have information that you think may be of interest to other Northmead residents. Your information will be reviewed and sent to the webmaster for possible publication. It’s that time of the year again. Please do not leave your holiday purchases in plain view. Be aware of your surroundings when at shopping areas. Don’t leave your purse in a shopping cart and look away for a minute. Using a little common sense will ensure that you will have a safe and happy Holiday Season.
HOLIDAY SHOPPING

HELPFUL HOLIDAY CRIME WATCH TIPS As the hectic, holiday season approaches and the crime rate increases, it pays to remember the following: • Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Keep packages and purchases hidden in the trunk of the vehicle or out of easy viewing sight. Remember others could be watching as you exit stores of the mall - so do not load your vehicle until you are finished shopping and are ready to depart. • Label all outdoor Christmas displays with your name, address, phone number and email address. In the event decorations are stolen and recovered, you will get your items back. • Make sure Facebook and other networking sites are filtered, so only those you want to read messages receive them. Cyber-savvy thieves are beginning to stalk social networking sites. Individuals who post photos of expensive gift items and post vacation plans become easy targets. • Use the Sheriff Department’s Vacation Watch if going out of town for the holidays. Log onto Copperfield.org, select Westcreek Village, then select Westcreek Crime Watch website and finally select Vacation Watch forms. After downloading form, mail or fax the form at least 5 days before the watch begins. • Most importantly, always lock your vehicles, doors, windows and set your alarms. • AND as always, if you see something suspicious, say something by calling the Sheriff Department’s non-emergency telephone number 713-221-6000 #1.
At Next Level Urgent Care, everything is designed around your comfort and convenience.
• Easy check-in process • Comfortably appointed exam rooms and soothing decor • Treatment for conditions that need immediate attention but are not life threatening (i.e., coughs, earaches, sprains, broken bones, sutures) • In-House x-ray services • We accept ALL major insurance providers

(WC) LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE WORKING MEETING
On Monday, October 14th, the Westcreek Landscape Committee chose to have an outdoors working meeting, taking advantage of cooler weather in the fall to plant snapdragons and other colorful flowers along the drainage canal behind the bus corral. With the ample amounts of rain that we received in mid to late October and early November, the flowers in this area, as well as within the butterfly habitat area, displayed fine fall colors that will likely still be visible for us to enjoy through the end of December. The walks along the pathway in this area, as time moves forward, are getting more pleasant with plenty of eye-candy to enjoy! Take some time this holiday season and see how nature rewards us with the positive attention we give to it.
(WC) DECEMBER GARDENING TIPS
LAWN/GARDEN CARE Fall is now trying to become winter, at least as close to a winter our area will see. The evenings (and days) have begun to get much cooler and most if not all of us welcome this change. • Brownpatch fungus will really start to take its toll if we fail to treat our lawns properly and scale back on the amount of water applied. Remember, when evening temperatures fall below 60 degrees, this problematic fungus will likely re-appear where you have had it before. The best strategy for limiting and controlling Brownpatch: o Change your watering schedule by eliminating all evening watering sessions. Leaving the lawn wet in the evening is an open invitation for Brownpatch to appear. o One or two daytime watering sessions per week should be sufficient for this time of year. o Continue to treat infected areas with the appropriate product to include Fertilome liquid systemic, Daconil or a double dose or Terrachlor. Any of these should help stop any apparent signs from growing or increasing. However, please - don’t wait until the situation is grim - treat before you see the telltale signs and avoid the breakout altogether! Remember - it is much easier to prevent Brownpatch than it is to eliminate it. • Please inspect your trees and shrubs that grow near or over the community sidewalks or green belt areas. Remember sidewalks need to remain free from low-hanging limbs or wide bushes that block or encroach upon safe, unobstructed passage. Having these hazards cleared and removed will prevent injury to children, your neighbors and even to your trees/shrubs, not

www.byronbruesstreeservices.com to mention that trimming unchecked growth adds to the beauty of our neighborhood and your home. PLANT CARE Many of us have tropical plants that will require special attention in the cooler months if we wish to enjoy their presence come next spring and summer. Don’t get caught off-guard in December if we experience any unusually cold nights by doing the following: • Covering your plants will help them survive a cold spell. Hibiscus, bougainvillea, mandevillea, crotons and philodendrons will not survive unprotected if the temperature falls below 32F. • When covering, use a sheet, a frost cover/blanket or a household blanket. If using plastic, cover the plant with a sheet/blanket FIRST, thereby placing the plastic OVER the sheet or blanket. DO NOT allow the plastic to directly come in contact with the plant/shrub. • Trim the plant down to a manageable size to allow ease in covering it. • Remember to water the root system heavily immediately before a cold snap occurs. • Be sure to protect the root system with mulch as this will insulate the roots as well as better retain the water applied. • Uncover the plant the following day if the temperature rises above freezing, as sunlight will help warm the surface and maintain the health of the plant. • If portions of the plant were not covered and show signs of temperature damage, remove that portion of the plant before rotting occurs. • Remember a plant can sustain significant temperature damage, yet still be viable closer to its core and root ball. Pruning of dead stock as late as March can occur before all hope can be considered lost. • If we don’t see the coldest days/nights of the season in December, at least obtain the proper sheets/blankets necessary for when the cold times do arrive. • Weed Control - take great care in treating St. Augustine for cool weather weeds, as some products (like Image) used to control broadleaf weeds can actually be quite harmful in the slow growth season now upon us. Utilize a product that has a combination of either 2-4D and Dicambra or 2-4D and Trimec. Read and follow the label directions carefully and use caution in applying weed control to your lawn in the cooler months. A small test patch may be wise if you have never used the product in the cooler months. If you are a do-it-yourself type, be thinking about the larger, labor-intensive projects like installing an irrigation control system, large area removal of turf or plants or other lengthy projects as the cooler months are obviously more pleasant to perform this type of work under. Please enjoy the Holiday Season with joy - travel safe if planned and be thankful for all that you have. Remember kids will be out of school or home from college, so our streets and neighborhoods will be a bit more busy than usual.

THE COPPERFIELD COALITION
The Copperfield Coalition is happy to inform the community that the Longenbaugh Project is complete. The modifications to Longenbaugh’s east bound lanes at Hwy. 6 to allow Copperfield to again have an attractive median dividing the east and west bound traffic are now complete. The four east bound lanes remain, but are narrower by 1 ft. to 11 ft. wide. Thus we’ve recovered an 8 ft. median wide and that will allow the beautification of the median, which will be maintained by the CCA. Again special thanks to Commissioner Steve Radack, HECD’s, John Blunt and the CCA for making this possible. See photo.

CFISD CELEBRATES 75 YEARS
Cypress-Fairbanks ISD was consolidated on Dec. 9, 1939, which means our 75th Anniversary is around the corner. The actual anniversary date is Dec. 9, 2014 and various projects are currently underway to make it a memorable 2014 - 2015 school year. Details are now available on the CFISD website at www.cfisd.net/75. The first event of the celebration will be a Diamond Jamboree at the Berry Center in August, 2014. During this event, we will identify 75 honorees and we need your help. The anniversary honoree designation committee is looking for people or families who have significantly impacted the CFISD community and district during the last 75 years. We want to particularly identify those that have truly captured the anniversary philosophy: “Our children. Our schools. Our community.” Please consider submitting a nomination and review the attached application. For more information on the anniversary, email 75th@cfisd.net.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through December. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

CHIROPRACTIC HEALTH and WELLNESS CENTER Lowery Elementary School DECEMBER ACTIVITIES
Even though our Longhorn students, teachers and staff will be enjoying time off later in December, it’s still a VERY busy month at Lowery Elementary! On Saturday, December 14th, many of our families will be participating in the annual Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Houston National Cemetery, honoring our veterans. In November, Lowery students collected donations for “Wreaths Across America” and we are proud to say they raised an amazing $1,275.33!!! Lowery’s fabulous Third Graders will dazzle their audience during their performance on December 16th at 6:30 PM, of “One Magic Holiday!” This wonderful and exciting show includes Santa, Mrs. Claus, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Elvis and many more characters. “One Magic Holiday” is a fully choreographed musical, which brings the holiday spirit right to you! For many of us, it just wouldn’t be the holiday season without “A Christmas Carol” and this year our Fifth Graders will be going on a special field trip on December 17th to see the Alley Theater’s production of Dickens’ classic tale. If that weren’t enough, we’ve got our Skate Night, the annual Holiday Shop and our class holiday parties. Whew!!!
families, all fellow Lowery Longhorns. Some suggestions for donations are toys, books, games, music and sporting equipment for children or teens; toiletries (shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, etc); pots and pans; dishes; bath towel sets; laundry and dish soap; blankets & sheets (all sizes); gift cards for warm winter clothes, shoes, groceries or any of the above items. You can bring your new and unwrapped donation(s) to Lowery Elementary School (15950 Ridge Park Dr.) or contact Angela Husted at hustedd@gmail.com or 713-397-5337. We are also collecting nonperishable food for these families. Donations will be accepted now through Wednesday December 11th.

Sadly, for many families the holidays are a glaring reminder of their extremely limited financial resources. Providing gifts, a special meal or sometimes even essentials is difficult, if not impossible. Deidre Douglas and Matthew Perez did and outstanding job again as our Fall Concert brought the crowd to their feet! All the choirs were fantastic in presentation and sound. Always a delight! Our Italian dinner theatre was a delightful success!!! The 29th of October brought a lifting up of solo performances and resounding choral arrangements that delighted all ages. Thanks to Truitt Middle School and Labay Middle School for joining our choir in their favorite fundraising venture of the school year. Diana Johnson and Laura Rooney manned the reins of this event and ran the silent auction like pros! The varied selection and beautiful baskets were plentiful and well received. Various vendors such as Pampered Chef, Academy Sports, Mr. Lavin and others donated items and cards. Themed baskets such as Movie night, dogs, car care and self pampering were a big hit! Heartfelt gratitude goes out to all our wonderful fans in the community that envelope our young men and women in their helpful and generous arms. Thanks to our booster club president, Hilary Bracher for an excellent job in emceeing the auction. Everyone seemed pleased with their won treasures. At this time we would like to recognize the students that auditioned for and qualified for the District choir. In no particular order congratulations go to: Kevin Guzman, Robert Newberry, David Moynihan, Kailyn Kolb, Rebecca Peter, Morgan Mayer, Karinna Lara, Vedika Khanna, Madison Suarez, Tyler Denton, Tate Brown, Grace Bracher, Cara Bacon, Marguerite Lavin, Sofia Nash, Evan Moynihan, Alicia McCormick, Diana Luu, Ryan Robbins, Elyse White and Taylor Shaunfield. Auditioning for and moving on to Regional Choir are: Elyse White, Taylor Shaunfield, Diana Luu, Alicia McCormick, Evan Moynihan, Sofia Nash, Marguerite Lavin, Kara Bacon, Tate Brown, Tyler Denton, Kailyn Kolb and David Moynihan. These students have worked very hard vocally and attained a level of excellence that is not reached by most. If you know them or see them at school or in the community, please congratulate them on their vocal accomplishment. Great Job!!! The Holiday Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 10th in the school auditorium. Festive holiday decor will add a flair to this international themed musical celebration. “Christmas around the World” will be a splendor for your eyes and ears... mark your calendars now so you won’t miss a note! The students will wrap up their 2013 choir experience with a holiday party on the 12th from 6 PM - 9 PM in the teaching theatre and commons areas. It will be an occasion full of laughter and merriment to be remembered and treasured, especially for our seniors. This first half of our children’s school year is already packed with memories and pleasant silliness. We look forward to filling the second half with many more. Of course none of this would be possible without our amazing choral directors, booster club executive board, the booster club and our many volunteers. We hope your time that you share with your children in the choir is filled with warm blessings and happy hearts. Have a Merry Christmas and we will see you in 2014!!!

COPPER CREEK MEADOWS SERVICE UNIT
Copper Creek Meadows Service Unit held a “Taste of Girl Scouting” event in October for new Girl Scouts. The girls attending made beaded bracelets and began to learn the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Older Girl Scouts helped to teach some favorite Girl Scout songs, like “Princess Pat” and “Yogi Bear.” The audience participated in telling a story about Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low Many thanks to all who helped with the event and all who attended! Our Leader/Daughter event took place early in November at Rocky River Ranch in Wimberley. Girls and their leader moms enjoyed some special time together in a variety of camp activities. The talent show and Dutch Oven cookoff are always popular events. Hiking, playing in the river and some time spent shopping in Wimberley helped round out the weekend. November also saw a chance for Girl Scout leaders to visit and learn from each other in a “café” event. Leaders have also been busy taking training classes and learning new skills. Those who attended the Council ETC (Every Thing Covered) may not actually have covered EVERYTHING... but there was certainly a lot to choose from! Copper Creek Meadows serves girls in the residence areas for the following elementary schools (and their corresponding middle and high schools): Wilson, Metcalf, Lieder, Tipps, Texas Christian School, Birkes, Fiest, Lowery, Horne, Owens, Hairgrove, Kirk, Lee, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Christian Life Center. Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Home schooled and private school students are always welcome. Girls may join at any level and no previous Scouting experience is required.

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high selfesteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help

HOMESCHOOL PACK 164
We’re pleased to report that 2013-2014 continues to be a great year for Cub Scout Pack 1445! The Pack has been working hard to maintain the flowerbeds around the Lowery Elementary marquee and once construction is complete around the school, we’ll make sure the other flowerbeds look just as great!
Cub Scouts is a fun way to teach boys about character, respect, responsibility and many other traits. Pack 164 is a Christian, home school Cub Scout Pack that services the Greater West Houston/Katy area. Pack 164 promotes service to God, to country and to others. If you are interested and your son is in 1st through 5th grade, please contact Jack M. Jones at 281-558-5722.
In October, the Pack recognized 11 new Scouts who completed the necessary requirements to earn their Bobcat badges. In November, the Scouts helped with the Veterans Day ceremony and activities held to honor the Lowery family members and friends who have served in our country’s armed forces. In December, the boys will participate in the Parade of Lights and have a blast riding on the Pack’s trailer. On December 14th, we will have the honor of participating in the Wreaths Across America’s Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Houston National Cemetery. Looking forward to the (very busy!) new year, the Pack will be holding their annual Pinewood Derby the last weekend in January. We’re excited to announce the Derby will take place at the Texas Tornadoes Training Facility and are grateful to the organization for allowing us to use their building. On President’s Day weekend, the Pack will be traveling to Corpus Christi for a very special camping trip: they’ll be spending the night onboard the U.S.S. Lexington! From all of us in Cub Scout Pack 1445, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

“Joy to the world the Lord has come...”” this is the good news celebrated during the Christmas season by young and old alike. Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be providing a number of celebration opportunities during the month of December: • On Saturday, December 7th, the church will present a “live” Nativity Scene from 6 to 8 PM. Not only will there be the normal cast of characters including shepherds, wisemen and the baby Jesus, but there will be live animals as well: donkeys, sheep and maybe even a camel. • On Sunday, December 8th, at 10:45 AM, the Children’s choirs will be presenting their Christmas Musical entitled: “An Out-of-the-Box Christmas.” At the 9:30 AM worship service, the Journey Praise Band will be leading worship with celebrative music. At both the 8:30 and 9:30 AM services, Dr. Dave Meadows will be bringing an inspiring Advent message. • On Saturday, December 14th, the Children’s Ministry Team will be sponsoring a special children’s event called “Breakfast with Santa” from 1011:30 AM that will include pictures with Santa, face painting, donuts, crafts and other family friendly activities. • On Sunday, December 15th, the church will be celebrating “God’s Greatest Gift” Stewardship Commitment Sunday. At both the 8:30 and 10:45 AM services, the Chancel Chimes will be performing their Christmas music. At the 9:30 AM service, led by Journey Praise, the message will be a special “Advent-themed Readers Theater.” • On Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24th, Cornerstone will offer three worship opportunities: 4:00 PM, 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, there will be the Family Christmas Service. In addition to the singing of carols and Communion, children will be invited to the front of the church to hear the Christ Story and receive a special “Christmas” gift from the church. At 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM, there will be a traditional “Candlelight and Communion” service. It will include the retelling of the “Birth of Christ” through Scripture readings and hymns. All three services will include a “Candle Lighting Ceremony” with everyone lighting candles during the singing of “Silent Night.” • On Sunday, December 29th, we will include a “Favorite Christmas Hymn” time at our 8:30 and 10:45 AM services. Worshippers will be given the opportunity to choose their favorite Christmas hymns from The United Methodist Hymnal to be sung. At the 9:30 AM worship service, the Journey Praise Band will be leading worship with celebrative music. At all three services, we will also be celebrating a special moment called “The Blessing of the Toys.” The Rev. Trish Woodruff will be bringing an inspiring postChristmas message. DECIBELLES (A BARBERSHOP CHORUS)
Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle! We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland, will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 35 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year includes songs from the 1920’s, as well as a Spiritual Medley that will start your toes tapping. Come visit any Friday we are not performing. We would love to see you and if you decide to join us, we would be delighted. For more information, please call Pat at 281-497-4904 or visit our website, www.Decibelles.org.

CYPRESS ASSISTANCE MINISTRIES VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
When you volunteer you are giving to your community, but did you realize volunteering also benefits you as an individual? CAM volunteers often let us know the fun they are having, the friends they have made and the fulfillment they receive from helping others. The services provided at CAM, are made possible by many dedicated volunteers. If you enjoy working with the public, decorating or merchandising, then serving in CAM’s resale shop, Angels’ Attic, is the place for you. Our busy community donation area, the Cellar, is looking for people willing to serve by processing donations and restocking Angels’ Attic. Please plan to attend a volunteer tour and orientation by calling Tara Rauch 281-955-7683 or email at tarar@cypressassistance.org. For a description of the services provided at Cypress Assistance Ministries, Food Pantry requests, and a detailed description of volunteer opportunities, please see our web site, www.cypressassistance.org.

FOSTER CHILDREN: PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING (PAL)
When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent. That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month. Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by local businesses. Want to help with PAL or other NCJW programs that help change lives with hands-on community service? Contact info@ncjwhouston.org or see www.ncjwhouston.org.
