COPPERFIELD COMMUNITY CENTER HOURS

The Community Center will be open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 11 AM-7 PM. Closed for lunch 2 PM-3 PM.

COPPERFIELD CRIME WATCH

The Copperfield Residents need to call 713-221-6000 (choose Option 1) or 911 for an Emergency. HCSO Sergeant Rogers is getting requests for suspicious vehicles and persons on Nextdoor.com and it is not a dispatch option, only for information. Success stories from our local HCSO Deputies: In response to numerous emails from both residents and Board members regarding stop sign violators, I conducted a traffic initiative between the dates of October 12, 2015 and October 26, 2015. Various deputies were assigned to stop signs at intersections along Lakeview Haven. As a result of the initiative, over 50 citations were issued for the offense of Failure to Stop at a Designated Point/Stop Sign. The results also indicated the majority of violators did NOT live within Copperfield, but were cutting through. The Sheriff’s Office is committed to enforcing all state laws in order to keep motorists and pedestrians safe while entering intersections and to prevent motor vehicle accidents from occurring when a motorist runs a stop sign. Please remember to come to a complete stop at the designated point, which is either the white painted line on the pavement, which is even with the stop sign or in the absence of the line, at the edge of the curb. On Wednesday, November 4, 2015, Units were dispatched to a report of a one car Major Accident at the intersection of Forest Heights Drive and Park Falls Drive within the Copperfield neighborhood. The comments indicated

a one vehicle accident versus a tree and the male driver was unresponsive. Two deputies and I responded to the scene and upon arrival we observed a male lying on the ground outside of his vehicle. We discovered the driver without a pulse and CPR was begun by Deputy L. Garcia. Cy Fair EMS arrived and took over life saving measures. The male was transported to North Cypress Medical for treatment and was revived by the life saving measures provided by first responders. Harris County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Deputies worked the accident and determined a probable medical issue led to the crash. The last report from the hospital was the male was in guarded condition. If you want more information about your Copperfield Community come to the next meetings held at the Copperfield Community Center, 15409 Willow River Drive, Houston, TX 77095. REMAINING MEETINGS FOR 2015 (3RD TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH) AT 6:30 PM - Dec. 15th

FM 529 Animal Hospital

(NM) EGRETS AND NIGHT HERONS ARE IN NORTHMEAD!

The Egrets and Night Herons have crossed West Road and built nests in homes off Meadow Village Drive and Pearl Lake. They were at the Middlegate pool park for the last three years, until their residence drove them away. The Northmead residence need to ban together to keep them out of our neighborhood next year, like Middlegate did in 2015. The birds will be leaving shortly and will be gone between October and early February, as homeowners we need to do the following:

BOARDING (Full Service Animal Hospital)

• Trim your trees and remove dead wood. • Thin your tree canopy to allow sunlight between limbs and other trees. • Remove any old (inactive) nests in your trees. • HOA will take care of the two Northmead parks. Prevention is crucial, egrets, herons and other migratory birds are protected by international treaty, it’s illegal for residents to harm or harass the birds once they lay eggs. Preventing the birds from building nests on residential property or in our parks in the first place is key.

(NM) DEED RESTRICTIONS

• Painting • Sheetrock • Flooring • Bathrooms

While no one likes receiving a Deed Restriction notice, it’s a necessary evil to keep the neighbor in good repair, which protects everyone’s property values. If you receive a letter and have a question or need additional time to make a repair, please call Graham Management at 281-497-4320. We are here to help.

GARBAGE CANS MUST BE STORED OUT OF SIGHT! It is a violation of deed restrictions to leave cans in view on non-garbage pick-up days. There is a fine assessed for each violation notice a resident receives. This is a growing problem in our neighborhood. Deed Restriction investigators are going to become more vigilant in citing the homes in violation. You are encouraged to report homes that are chronic violators to Graham Management. A link to contact Graham Management is also on the Copperfield website. You will remain anonymous. Your reports are appreciated.

(SC) YEARLY ASSESSMENT

The annual HOA dues have been raised this year roughly 5% due to inflation. A little over 2.5% of that came from the Copperfield Community Association (CCA). The CCA is the umbrella association over the seven villages of Copperfield. Their responsibilities include Sheriff’s contract, trash contract, the Community Center, the main Copperfield park with the two baseball fields and all common areas that lay on the outskirts of all the seven villages. With tight reigns on our budget and a fiscally conservative Board, we have been able to keep the annual dues unchanged for several years. The Board will strive to once again not have to raise the annual assessment for another period of time.

(SC) PARKS CLOSE AT SUNSET EACH DAY

The Parks in our neighborhood close at dark. The Sheriff Department has requested that anyone who sees activity in one of our parks after dark, should report the activity to the Sheriff’s Department. Please call 713-2216000 and once the recording starts, press “1.” Inform “dispatch” that you are reporting a suspicious person or suspicious activity in the Southcreek Village Park. You may request that the officer stop by your residence after the incident has been checked out, by letting the dispatch officer know this when you report the incident.

(SC) STREETLIGHTS OUT?

Please report outages of streetlights to Centerpoint Energy. Get the pole number, as well as the nearest Street address and call 713-207-2222.

(SD) EMAIL

Please register your email at www.coppperfield.org. It is imperative that the HOA be able to get in touch with as many residents as possible very quickly. We only have 200 emails at this time. We will only send you an email when it is absolutely necessary, so please sign up today!

(SD) ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE

Homeowners are reminded that approval from the Architectural Review Committee must be obtained before any changes or improvements are made to the exterior of your property. This includes painting and roof replacement, to name a few. Applications can be obtained from the www.coppperfield.org website.

(SC) TRASH & RECYCLING PICKUP

Southcreek trash pickup is on Tuesdays and Fridays. Southcreek has backdoor pickup. This means that our trashcans may be placed at the back of our driveway. We do not have to have our trashcans at the curb. Big items such as yard clippings and tree branches should be placed at the curb. Our deed restrictions state that all trash, including grass clippings, cannot be on the curb until 6 PM the night before pickup and your trashcans must be picked up from the curb by 6 PM, the day of pickup. So… you cannot have trash on the curb until Monday and Thursday nights until 6 PM and everything must be removed from the curb by 6 PM on Tuesdays and Fridays. This includes any bags that contain lawn clippings. If you have a lawn service, have them place the bags behind your fence and not leave the clippings on the curb. Our recycling day is Tuesday. Please have your recycling bin at the curb by 7 AM on Tuesdays. Please pick up your recycling by 6 PM on Tuesdays to comply with our deed restrictions.

Contact Graham Management at grahammanagement@sbcglobal.net. Board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 PM, at the Copperfield Community Center, 15409 Willow River Drive, Houston, Texas 77095. (SD) TRASH DAY

Southdown Village has backdoor trash pick-up on Tuesday and Friday. Recycling is on Tuesday. Trash and recycling bins must be stored out of view until the evening before trash day. Failure to do so may result in a violation of deed restrictions.

Meetings - 4th Tuesday at 6:30 PM Forest Heights Pool Meeting Room

As the hectic, holiday season approaches and the crime rate increases, it pays to remember the following: • Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Keep packages and purchases hidden in the trunk of the vehicle or out of easy viewing sight. Remember others could be watching as you exit stores of the mall - so do not load your vehicle until you are finished shopping and are ready to depart.

Cyber-savvy thieves are beginning to stalk social networking sites. Individuals who post photos of expensive gift items and post vacation plans become easy targets. • Use the Sheriff Departments’ Vacation Watch if going out of town for the holidays. Log onto Copperfield.org, select Westcreek Village, then select Westcreek Crime Watch website and finally select Vacation Watch forms. After downloading form, mail or fax the form at least 5 days before the watch begins. • Remember if you “See Something Suspicious, Say Something” by calling the Sheriff Dept.’s non emergency number 713-221-6000 #1. Remember to program this number into your cell phone for easy access. • AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, always lock your vehicles, doors, windows and set your alarms. Never leave valuables in your unlocked vehicles.

(WC) NEW TREES ALONG BAYOU

During the week of October 23rd, Harris County Flood Control planted 11 different types of trees - over 500 along the north and south banks of the bayou east of Barker Cypress, as well as along the north bank west of Barker Cypress. Although most are saplings and quite young, these trees promise to mature and grow over the years into very beautiful improvements to our subdivision. If you haven’t had a chance to see them, take some time out now that the weather is quite cool and pleasant. Take a walk along the bayou and enjoy the added beauty Harris County was so kind in providing to us to enjoy. “Thank you” to the many fine people at Harris County Flood Control who worked to make this project a reality.

WESTCREEK LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE Meetings - 2nd Monday of every month at 6:30 PM Location - Forest Heights Pool Meeting Room

(WC) DECEMBER GARDENING TIPS LAWN/GARDEN CARE

Fall is now trying to become winter, at least as close to a winter our area will see. The evenings (and days) have begun to get much cooler and most if not all of us welcome this change. Brownpatch fungus will really start to take its toll if we fail to treat our lawns properly and scale back on the amount of water applied. Remember, when evening temperatures fall below 60 degrees, this problematic fungus will likely re-appear where you have had it before. The best strategy for limiting and controlling Brownpatch: • Change your watering schedule by eliminating all evening watering sessions. Leaving the lawn wet in the evening is an open invitation for Brownpatch to appear. • 1 or 2 daytime watering sessions per week should be sufficient for this time of year. • Continue to treat infected areas with the appropriate product to include Fertilome liquid systemic, Daconil or a double dose or Terrachlor. Any of these should help stop any apparent signs from growing or increasing. However, please - don’t wait until the situation is grim – treat before you see the telltale signs and avoid the breakout altogether! Remember - it is much easier to prevent Brownpatch than it is to eliminate it.

PLANT CARE

Many of us have tropical plants that will require special attention in the cooler months if we wish to enjoy their presence come next spring and summer. In December, you should obtain protective sheeting for the typical January/ February cold nights. Don’t wait until the night before! • Covering your plants will help them survive a cold spell. Hibiscus, bougainvillea, mandevillea, crotons and philodendrons will not survive unprotected if the temperature falls below 32F. • When covering, use a sheet, a frost cover/blanket or a household blanket. If using plastic, cover the plant with a sheet/blanket FIRST, thereby placing the plastic OVER the sheet or blanket. DO NOT allow the plastic to directly come in contact with the plant/shrub. • Trim the plant down to a manageable size to allow ease in covering it. • Remember to water the root system heavily immediately before a cold snap occurs.

• Be sure to protect the root system with mulch as this will insulate the roots as well as better retain the water applied. • Uncover the plant the following day if the temperature rises above freezing, as sunlight will help warm the surface and maintain the health of the plant. • If portions of the plant were not covered and show signs of temperature damage, remove that portion of the plant before rotting occurs. • Remember, a plant can sustain significant temperature damage, yet still be viable closer to its core and root ball. Pruning of dead stock as late as March can occur before all hope can be considered lost. • Weed Control - take great care in treating St. Augustine for cool weather weeds as some products (like Image) used to control broadleaf weeds can actually be quite harmful in the slow growth season now upon us. Utilize a product that has a combination of either 2-4D and Dicambra or 2-4D and Trimec. Read and follow the label directions carefully and use caution in applying weed control to your lawn in the cooler months. A small test patch may be wise if you have never used the product in the cooler months. Please enjoy the Holiday Season with joy - travel safe if planned and be thankful for all that you have. Remember kids will be out of school or home from college, so our streets and neighborhoods will be a bit more busy than usual.

(WC) BACKYARD GARDEN CLUB

We have started a Backyard Garden Club and the following is what it is all about. Ultimate Goal: • Visit other backyards and/or patios • Informal gathering • Share plants, cuttings or identification of plants • Share gardening tips • Possibly meet once a month and also schedule yard visits - tentatively meet the 2nd Friday of the month at 2 PM • We will schedule 3 yards to visit at that meeting and visit the yards the following week at 6 PM • We will meet at house #1 then give addresses of others at that point This is a learning experience and not a back-yard contest. We just want to view and share our hidden landscaped Backyards. For more info, contact Bill Schindler at wrspo@sbcglobal.net. In Westcreek Village but open to all Villages.

Scouts COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL

Girl Scouts in Copper Creek Meadows Community have had a busy autumn! The Fall product sale was a success and we thank our family, friends and neighbors who have supported us! We would also like to thank Crystal Lawrenz and all the volunteers who made the program run smoothly this year. Our Girl Scouts have been taking advantage of the autumn weather to take field trips and learn about the outdoors. Troop 113017 made a trip to Dewberry Farms to enjoy the fall activities. Troop 113035 worked on their Hiker Badge at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. They also worked on the Letterboxer Badge and have been collecting books for Lowery Elementary. Troop 16369 hosted the Rally Night at Owens Elementary. While parents took part in a meeting, these Girl Scouts held a flag ceremony and taught the younger girls Girl Scout songs, played games and showed them what Girl Scouting is all about.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through December. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.

Health & Wellness HOUSTON CY-FAIR LIONS CLUB TO OFFER FREE VISION SCREENING

Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club will conduct FREE vision screening to children from six months of age and older at the Jersey Village Holiday in the Park, to be held Sunday December 6th, from 1-4 PM at Clark Henry Park. This vision screening uses a unique special camera that takes a photo of the child’s eyes and within seconds relates a pass or refer status. Those with the refer status will need to have a professional eye examination at a local optometrist. Vision problems are the leading disability in children, who are unaware that they cannot see properly. They cannot compare their vision to others and vision problems do not cause pain or inflammation, so parents, teachers and caregivers are unaware that the child has visual difficulties. Eighty percent of learning is visual. The Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club has recently purchased the Plusoptix Vision Screener for this community service project. This is part of a nationwide KidSight initiative through Lions Clubs International to screen children early for vision problems. Please bring your children to the Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club booth at Holiday in the Park for this important screening, which takes only a minute. To schedule a free vision screening at your day care or church, please contact: Sandy Martin, Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club Vision Screening Program, 281-550-2798 or bikee77095@yahoo.com.

For more information on the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department or on how you can join the other 350 volunteers of our Department and be one of Cy-Fair’s bravest, call us at 281-656-3840 or visit us on the web at www. cyfairvfd.org.

Junior Achievement volunteers inspire young people to succeed and volunteers can see the difference they are making right away from the students excitement and understanding of the concepts. It is the only organization that makes it simple for volunteers to experience the immediate benefits of their involvement and the impact of success on the young people in the community. Junior Achievement is always recruiting new volunteers, for only with the support of schools, parents and community is it possible to bring these extraordinary programs to the students. The single greatest need, for homeless and street kids is our continuous caring and real support. We must convince them that we care, we want them back and we want to help them get off the streets.

The Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department provides fire, rescue and EMS services to 156 square miles of Northwest Harris County for the residents of Harris County Emergency Service District #9. By operating from 12 community based volunteer fire stations we are able to quickly and efficiently respond to help our neighbors in times of emergency.

LOCAL MENTORS NEEDED TO MENTOR ONE CHILD & CHANGE TWO LIVES!

CROSSROADS is a nonprofit United Way agency that provides mentors for at risk youth between the ages of 10 and 17. Visit our website at www. crossroads-volunteers.org and consider running an ad like the one below in your Copperfield subdivision newsletter. Many young people don’t have strong positive adult influences in their lives to help guide them through these crucial years. Mentoring makes a difference in both the life of the youth and our community. A commitment of 1 hour weekly is all we ask. Help us shape the leaders of tomorrow by contacting Jan, CROSSROADS Volunteer Recruiter at Jan.gibbs@hcjpd.hctx.net or 713-295-2779. Mentor one child… change two lives.

FOSTER CHILDREN: PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING (PAL)

Weekend and Evening Appointments Available

When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent. That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month. Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by local businesses.

713-784-1040

Want to help with PAL or other NCJW programs that help change lives with hands-on community service? Contact info@ncjwhouston.org or see www. ncjwhouston.org.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR DREAM DACHSHUND RESCUE

DREAM Dachshund Rescue, Education & Adoption Mission is a Houstonbased 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing abandoned Dachshunds and finding new homes for Dachshunds whose owners can no longer care for them. Our committed volunteers, working closely with local veterinarians, provide our Dachshunds with quality medical care and loving foster homes until they are adopted into carefully screened, forever homes. DREAM is currently looking for caring volunteers to provide temporary foster care for our many rescued Dachshunds-in-need, currently awaiting adoption. Prior to their adoption, DREAM continues to pay for all medical care and monthly heart worm prevention. There is no long-term commitment required. Food, water, shelter and a soft place to rest is all you need to provide. The “love” just comes naturally. If you have a little room in your heart and in your home (and your family pets are up-to-date on their vaccines and monthly heart worm preventative), then you are who we are looking for! There is no feeling in the world like the unconditional love you’ll receive from a rescued Dachshund, plus the friendships you’ll make when you join the DREAM Team! The more foster homes we have, the more Dachshunds we can save. Please help save a life and consider fostering today! Questions? Please send us an email to: Contact-Us@DreamDachs.org and a volunteer will respond to you right away with all the information you need! Ready to Foster? Please visit our website at: www.dreamdachs.org and click on the FOSTER tab to fill out our online Foster Application.
