Please remember that if you have any questions about the neighborhood, you may contact our HOA management company, SCS. Their hours of operation are 8 AM-5 PM Monday through Friday. We want to extend a “special” thank you for all homeowners who abide by the deed restrictions. Keeping trashcans out of sight, unauthorized vehicles, boats & trailers out of driveways, maintaining yards, mildew off home siding, etc. keeps our neighborhood looking good! We still have some homeowners that have a problem abiding with deed restrictions and fines are being added to their assessment account. Home values improve when a neighborhood looks good and is well maintained. This is taking pride and caring about your community! See important note about POOL TAGS!

Our Annual Homeowner Appreciation Pool Party was held May 30th and we had a great turnout. It is a way of meeting your Board members as well as our new homeowners and neighbors. We want to extend a big “welcome” to those who are new to our neighborhood. We want to extend a “THANK YOU” to the local merchants who donated the food and door prizes for the event.

Our Annual Homeowners Board Meeting was held with a great turnout. Thank you for attending. The current President was re-elected for another 3-year term. We want to thank all those who took time from their busy schedules to attend. Your vote counts. We received enough proxies to conduct the meeting. Keep in mind that without the required number of proxies, we cannot establish a quorum and election of officers or a business meeting cannot be conducted. It is very important to return the proxies you receive in the mail. Board members also went door to door collecting proxies from those that did not mail them in or could not attend.

DOG OWNERS!!!!! Please do not let your dogs to do their business on other people’s yards, sidewalks or on the concrete walking path of the Greenbelt. Be considerate of other homeowners!!!!!!!!!! Also, all dogs must be kept on a leash. We have had several complaints about dogs and cats roaming the neighborhood and getting into the trashcans and back yards. If this is persistent, the Harris County Animal Control will be notified to take care of the matter. FENCES: Homeowners need to keep up all their fences facing the green belt and trees trimmed! Some fences are in dire need of repair and have boards missing. This is not a very pretty sight to see when the fences are falling apart. It is also against deed restriction violation. ILLEGAL PARKING: No parking in the Pool/Park area is allowed after 9 PM. We will begin towing any vehicle seen after hours at the owners’ expense. It does not matter if you are a homeowner or a guest visiting the homeowner. It is illegal and considered trespassing. The Sheriffs will not be patrolling and calling in the tows.

(CPV) DEED RESTRICTIONS VIOLATIONS

IMPORTANT!!!! DO NOT PARK YOUR VEHICLE WHERE IT BLOCKS THE SIDEWALK. The Harris County Sheriff’s Department is monitoring this violation throughout the neighborhood and repeated violators can be ticketed! Mildew on the sides of homes have been cited, as well as painting needed on some homes. We would like to think you care and are proud about your neighborhood. Get a copy of the deed restrictions if you do not have one by going into the Copperfield website, www.copperfield.org and tag on Copperfield Place Village to determine the paint spec’s allowed by the Architectural Committee. Check your fencing and repair if boards are loose or missing! Animals can either come in or out of your yard if boards are missing on to the street or green belt. No boats, trailers, commercial trucks or inoperable vehicles are allowed in driveways or street and are against deed restriction violations!

(CPV) GARBAGE CANS MUST BE STORED OUT OF SIGHT!

Garbage pick up is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays. In the evening, please remove trashcans from the street after pickup! Put trash out the night before and not 2-3 days prior to pickup! If you have issues or questions as to why your trash is not being picked up, contact Debbie @ SCS.

(EC) APPROVED EXTERIOR PAINT COLORS

Easton Commons has updated the approved paint colors for the neighborhood. A copy of the new colors are available at the Copperfield Community Center (15409 Willow River Drive), Sherwin Williams (5814 Hwy. 6 N.) and at Graham Management’s office (12000 Westheimer Rd.). Many existing colors have been removed from the approved color list, homeowners will need to check prior to repainting.

(EC) MOSQUITO CONTROL

Although the Easton Commons HOA has mosquito control come through regularly during the summer, it is not enough to get rid of them completely. The summer months can be uncomfortable, due to all of the biting insects. One of the best ways to prevent mosquitoes is to eliminate their breeding grounds. Controlling mosquitoes also minimizes the risk of mosquito-borne diseases, including St. Louis encephalitis and West Nile Virus encephalitis. Homeowners need to scan their property and dispose of or remedy anything causing standing water. The eggs that mosquitoes lay in rainwater hatch in as little as two days. Tip over buckets or containers, flowerpots with reservoirs, toys, boats, wheelbarrows, birdbaths and wading pools. Clean clogged roof gutters; fill in low areas of the yard that collects water, dispose of leaf piles and chlorinate pools. Treat water in fountains or water gardens if the water does not flow on a regular basis.

Take Home BLEACHING

Middlegate Village

The Middlegate Bird Committee is excited about the successful spring season, which concluded with no new nests at either the pool or gazebo park. The efforts of members to scare birds away from these community areas was time-consuming and required constant effort to ensure the birds were unable to settle in the parks. The committee is now changing its tactics. Members are no longer staying in the pool park in the evenings. We are walking the parks to look for new nests once a day. To ensure that new nests are spotted promptly, we encourage everyone to check trees in the parks when you visit the playgrounds or pool. A diagram of the pool park has been posted at the entrance to the pool with the trees numbered to help identify areas of concern. Squirrel nests and the hawk nest have been noted on the diagram. If you spot a nest that seems new, please send an email to birds@ middlegatevillage.org or you can contact Sunni West from SCS Management at swest@scwsmgmt.com to report your observations. Nests can still be built and eggs laid by the birds until the end of July. When the nesting season is over in October, please check your own trees for nests to remove. If you have any further questions, please contact birds@middlegatevillage.org.

We owe a debt of gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who took on the task of monitoring the birds at the parks! Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

GARBAGE CANS MUST BE STORED OUT OF SIGHT! It is a violation of deed restrictions to leave cans in view on non-garbage pick-up days. There is a fine assessed for each violation notice a resident receives. This is a growing problem in our neighborhood. Deed Restriction investigators are going to become more vigilant in citing the homes in violation. You are encouraged to report homes that are chronic violators to Graham Management. The Flower Bed Project throughout the community is coming along quite nicely. It started off a little slower than anticipated due to the heavy rains of May. The ornamental trees have been planted on both sides of the mailboxes (where permitted) along Forest Heights and one in the tiny median at the entryway of Royal Gardens. The beds at the T intersections on Royal Gardens and Forest Heights are completed. Next, we are adding flower beds to all the parks, which should be completed soon. We will also be adding flower beds at some of the end sections of the street fencing along Forest Heights and Royal Gardens.

(WC) CRIME PREVENTION TIP

The school year is almost over and area pools open for the weekends beginning in May. Be alert for suspicious activity in the neighborhood, especially around the pool and park areas. While at the pool, do not leave valuables in vulnerable locations - lying on tables, lounge chairs or visibly displayed in parked vehicles. Avoid taking money or credit cards. The theft of personal items can ruin a pleasant day spent at the park or pool.

(WC) SHERIFF DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

If you notice anything suspicious in the neighborhood, report it directly to the non-emergency Sheriff Department’s number at 713-221-6000 # 1. Take a minute to program this number into the cell phone of each family member. The more eyes, the better the crime prevention. Be a good neighbor and remember to park your vehicles in the garage or in your driveway, especially at night. And remember to keep your vehicles

temperature and insect challenges and have displayed very fine examples worthy of YOM consideration. May winners for June signage display are as follows; 1st: 17919 Mossy Ridge Ln. 2nd: 17715 Rustic Glen Ct. 3rd: 7926 Feather Springs Dr. With many summer plants and flowers now in full bloom many yards are exhibiting outstanding displays of color, upkeep and attention to detail! Keep up the great work!

(WC) REMINDER

With the summer months now upon us many children are home from school at play in the neighborhood or if older, parking their vehicles now that they have returned from college. Many of us outdoor enthusiasts may have recreational vehicles (RV’s) we plan to bring home to ready for a vacation. Please refrain from parking trailers or watercraft vehicles on the street for overnight periods - our streets are too narrow and pose a risk to motorists as well as to the RV or boat itself. In addition, their overnight presence may invite unwanted graffiti or vandalism and violates HOA by-laws.

(WC) GARDENING TIPS

LAWN/GARDEN CARE • Water application for our lawns continues to be important - remember to water only in the early morning hours, before 10 AM as this will prevent fungus development you will appreciate not having to deal with in the latter weeks of summer and fall. • Re-sod bare, diseased or weak areas of your lawn now if you have not already done so - St. Augustine takes hold and produces rhizomes (horizontal roots or “runners”) which leads to a thicker turf now better than any other time. • Top-dressing with lawn soil and compost is acceptable, but beware of applying products with high manure content as this may cause burning upon contact. • Aerate gardens producing vegetables and herbs well to prevent soil caking our high clay content soil we have all been blessed with is prone to doing. • Keep an eye out for pests - especially fire ants and cinch bugs. Rains will bring out ant nests and see increased activity as colonies try to spread out. The excessive heat is ideal for cinch bugs to gain strength.

LAWN CARE Many of us in the neighborhood may have used Scott’s brand “Weed and Feed” Turf Builder for Southern Lawns back in April to help green up our lawns, only to find our turf displaying yellow “streaks” that took several weeks to disappear. It has not yet been confirmed, but there was likely a defective batch manufactured and supplied that resulted in unintentional over-fertilization. The product sold at Lowe’s stated on the package safe for St. Augustine as well as Centipede grass, but there were pallet tags separate from the bags “DO NOT USE ON CENTIPEDE GRASS,” Take care in selecting a fertilizer that is blended for St. Augustine lawns and apply carefully if that is indeed what your lawn contains. Also take note that if you utilize Bonide “Ultra” liquid weed killer to use with extreme caution. This product has been known to attack and destroy lawns that appear to be of St. Augustine content, when in fact the lawn contains Centipede grass as well. You may end up re-sodding your entire lawn after utilizing this product if you have large amounts contained in your yard of Centipede grass. The products labeling states erroneously it is safe to use on this type of grass! TREES/PLANTS • Now is the time to feed Canary Island, Date, Mexican Fan, Sago and Queen palm varieties. Fertilizer spikes that add magnesium, potassium and manganese are ideal as these are the most prevalent elements lacking to palms found in our area. • Please be sure to trim any low or overhanging branches from trees or bushes that may cause people walking along the sidewalks or common

CCS ATHLETE NAMED TAPPS 4A FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR Senior Dai’ja Coleman received the 2014-2015 TAPPS 4A Female Athlete of the Year Award. She was nominated based on her significant contributions to athletics and for her strong academics. Dai’ja competes on a level few can maintain and is a team leader, encourager and excels in helping her team be the best they can be. With a strong work ethic and desire to do her best, she rises to the occasion no matter the circumstances. While at CCS, Dai’ja earned multiple honors for her work on the basketball court and on the track. She recently placed fourth in Baylor University’s Inaugural Meet for Champions, was named Valiant Warrior and awarded the Will Rhodes Athletic Scholarship. Dai’ja plans to accept one of the multiple offers she has received from colleges to compete in track and field. “We are blessed she has been a part of Cypress Christian School,” says Athletic Director Marsha Martin, “and we are honored that TAPPS selected Dai’ja.” Photo by Jack Potts Photography CCS ATHLETE COMMITS TO PLAY BASEBALL AT LETOURNEAU Senior Ryan Gibbs will join the LeTourneau University Yellowjackets on the baseball field next year. Ryan was the starting catcher for the Warrior TAPPS 3A state championship run in 2014 earning honors in the division. Ryan’s tremendous work ethic helped to earn him the role of captain during his senior year where he led the Warriors into the playoffs at the 4A level. CCS Head Baseball Coach David Swan had this to say about Ryan: “He has been a cornerstone for our program as catcher for the past three seasons and a key factor in our success. He will certainly be missed, but we are very excited about his opportunity to play at the college level.” Photo by Rachael Lechman

HEALTH FOUNDATION DONATES 22 CPR TRAINING KITS TO CFISD SCHOOLS

Representatives from the Tomball Regional Health Foundation (TRHF), American Heart Association (AHA) and area school districts met at Tomball High School on May 29th to celebrate the TRHF’s donation of 123 CPR in Schools Training Kits to Houston-area high school students. The TRHF contribution was valued at nearly $90,000, including $13,750 for 22 training kits for CFISD - two kits per each of the district’s 11 high schools.

281-578-TREE(8733)

www.byronbruesstreeservices.com

TRHF Chairman of the Board Jack Smith said the foundation chose to include CFISD schools since they are in their regional service area along with Tomball, Waller, Klein, Spring and Concordia Lutheran. A total of 123 CPR in Schools Training Kits were donated to area high schools by the Tomball Regional Health Foundation.

Big Smiles Start Here!

The donation aligns with new statewide secondary health curriculum, which mandates that students earn CPR certification prior to graduation. TRHF President Lynn Lebouef said he was proud that the kits will allow 13,000 students to receive training over the next three years.

YEARBOOKS RECOGNIZED IN ANNUAL BALFOUR PUBLICATION

Chief Bragg was recognized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Salute to Law Enforcement, a program that he started. The day allows various law enforcement agencies and the public to come together for a community event in which fallen officers are recognized, scholarships are awarded and demonstrations are presented.

“These recipients are true patriots and heroes in our community,” said Chapter Vice President Tom Jackson. “They have profound impacts in our neighborhoods and on our children. They make things better for everyone around them, and that’s exactly the spirit that the leaders, soldiers, merchants and laymen of the American Revolution would have appreciated.”

CYPRESS FALLS HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR NEWS

What a fantastic year we have had. The Women’s Choir was invited to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association gathering in San Antonio, we are so proud of their accomplishments. We have had students participate at every level of choirs including state!!! Many students proudly wore their letter jacket before school’s end and underclassmen will continue to sport them next school year. The successful events just kept rolling. The lock-ins are always a great time with laughter filling the air. Pop show, “One hit Wonders,” pleased and delighted the audience of all ages. The costumes, choreography and talent shined throughout the acts from beginning to end. Fundraising helped support efforts and taught the students that if you work hard, you can play hard and they did play!

Thanks to Tonya McLaughlin and Julie Mayer for their flawless choir banquet endeavor in making the trip “All Around the World” a reality for our students. Thanks go out too to their tireless minions! We say farewell to our seniors as they sang their final notes as students on the auditorium stage. Tears flowed and hugs all around as memories of high school are cemented. As part of the end of the school year performance, two students, voted on, are awarded scholarships from the Choir Board based on merit. The Music scholarship was awarded to Diana Luu and the Academic scholarship went to Tyler Denton. Congratulations to these exceptional students, as well as the entire class of 2015! We wish you much happiness in your life’s journey! It takes a strong engine to drive this choir’s adventures. That engine, the executive board, bids a warm and sincere adieu to our President, Hillary Bracher and her ever supportive husband Jimmy. Through the years they have attended banquets, danced/laughed alongside the students, scooped countless bowls of ice cream, carried power washers to car washes, sold chocolate, served spaghetti and barbecue, ideas... the list of tireless participation goes on. After two students raised through the choir, they have become a standard presence that will be greatly missed. Your volunteer hours have been many and appreciated. Our students are better people due to your leadership. Thank you.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through July. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL

12 Girl Scout troops participated in our Bridging Ceremony on May 2nd, ranging in age from Daisy Girl Scouts bridging to Brownies all the way up to our graduating Senior Girl Scouts from Troop 5131. Our stage was decorated with a variety of outdoor creatures made by the bridging troops. The butterflies made from pool noodle sections and tissue paper by troop 16462 and the balloon bumblebees made by troop 16320 were ones we particularly noticed. There were lots of others to look at, also - we have some very creative and artistic girls in our Community! Our Bridging troops were 16048, 16171,16460,16462,16465,16467,16407,16320, 16464, 16137, 16170 and 5131. Congratulations to all our Bridging troops! As each troop was announced, one of the leaders told about the troop’s activities during the year. Service projects and cookie sales, (some service projects INCLUDED cookies or were funded by cookie sales), field trips and campouts, participation in Council and Copper Creek Meadows Community events were only a few of the things mentioned. Girl Scouts are active girls!

Troop 16465 bridged from Brownie to Junior Girl Scouts, after a very busy year! Their most recent activity was “camping in space” at the Johnson Space Center. Their visit included Mission Control, Rocket Park and the training center and all the fun of a sleepover. Members of the troop are Kerrigan Abner, Tristan Chambers, Caroline Deputy, Carter Green, Alyssa Laich, Jaydah Mora, Kiran Nath, Annie Patrick and Mia Walther. Cadette troop 16435 used cookie booth donation funds to purchase and deliver Girl Scout Cookies to Casa Esperanza de los Ninos. They also toured the offices and learned about the children they help. Troop 113046 sent a no-sew blanket and a Girl Scout Build-A-Bear to a young girl with Stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer in Ohio. Troop 16468 members have been earning the Independence Badge and showing their increasing maturity with a variety of activities. They have been discussing bad habits and resolving to break them; learning how to separate laundry and getting other tips for washing clothes and have been learning to help around the house (this included fixing a

leaky faucet). The girls also went shopping WITH a Girl Scout buddy (without their parents) to buy 2-3 items. This helped them to learn about budgeting and making choices. Troop 16503 attended the “Nature Rocks” workshop, as part of a weekend at Camp Arnold. Troop members enjoyed preparing and eating a camp fire breakfast and also spent time at the archery range. You can see by their smiling faces that they had a great time! Daisy troop 16462 is now Brownie troop 16462. The girls have participated in many activities this year and are looking forward to having more fun with their troop next year! These new Brownie Girl Scouts are Abby Briggs, Jessica Comaitos, Kayla Delany, Julie Megason, Joie Phan and Eva Thomas.

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT

www.cypressfallsah.com

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high selfesteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly. Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley, Horne, Jowell, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan, Tipps, Walker and Wilson.

Cornerstone United Methodist Church is conducting a shoe collection drive, which will run until the end of July to raise funds for our family life center. We will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will be utilized towards the costs associated with our family life center. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 18081 West Road. You can bring your donations by MondayThursday 9 AM-4 PM or contact the church office to schedule a time to pick up the shoes. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. By donating shoes to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives. For more information or questions about the shoe drive, please contact Scott Grow at youth@cornerstoneumc.org or contact the church office at 281-859-4141.

LOCAL MENTORS NEEDED TO MENTOR ONE CHILD & CHANGE TWO LIVES!

CROSSROADS is a nonprofit United Way agency that provides mentors for at risk youth between the ages of 10 and 17. Visit our website at www. crossroads-volunteers.org and consider running an ad like the one below in your Copperfield subdivision newsletter. Many young people don’t have strong positive adult influences in their lives to help guide them through these crucial years. Mentoring makes a difference in both the life of the youth and our community. A commitment of 1 hour weekly is all we ask. Help us shape the leaders of tomorrow by contacting Jan, CROSSROADS Volunteer Recruiter at Jan.gibbs@hcjpd.hctx.net or 713-295-2779. Mentor one child… change two lives.

SPECIAL CHEERS NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

Special CHEERS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing Occupational Therapy to children with special needs of all ages living in and around the greater Houston area. Our facility is unique in that we utilize animals, including horses, dogs, goats, pigs, lambs and rabbits as an integral part of each child’s therapy treatment plan. Being a non-profit organization, we are constantly looking for extra help around the farm. Therefore, Special CHEERS would like to welcome all high school and college-aged students interested in working with both children and animals to volunteer after school, on the weekends or seasonally (i.e., summer camp). Please call our administrative assistant, Ms. Denise Pace, at 713-983-0075, for more information. A background check will be required of all individuals applying for a volunteer position at our facility.

FOSTER CHILDREN: PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING (PAL)

$

When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent. That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month. Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by local businesses. Want to help with PAL or other NCJW programs that help change lives with hands-on community service? Contact info@ncjwhouston.org or see www. ncjwhouston.org.

DREAM Dachshund Rescue, Education & Adoption Mission is a Houstonbased 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing abandoned Dachshunds and finding new homes for Dachshunds whose owners can no longer care for them. Our committed volunteers, working closely with local veterinarians, provide our Dachshunds with quality medical care and loving foster homes until they are adopted into carefully screened, forever homes.

A Full Service Home Remodeling Company • Fences/Decks • Kitchen/Bathroom • Patio Covers/Arbors

DREAM is currently looking for caring volunteers to provide temporary foster care for our many rescued Dachshunds-in-need, currently awaiting adoption. Prior to their adoption, DREAM continues to pay for all medical care and monthly heart worm prevention. There is no long-term commitment required. Food, water, shelter and a soft place to rest is all you need to provide. The “love” just comes naturally. If you have a little room in your heart and in your home (and your family pets are up-to-date on their vaccines and monthly heart worm preventative), then you are who we are looking for! There is no feeling in the world like the unconditional love you’ll receive from a rescued Dachshund, plus the friendships you’ll make when you join the DREAM Team! The more foster homes we have, the more Dachshunds we can save. Please help save a life and consider fostering today! Questions? Please send us an email to: Contact-Us@DreamDachs.org and a volunteer will respond to you right away with all the information you need! Ready to Foster? Please visit our website at: www.dreamdachs.org and click on the FOSTER tab to fill out our online Foster Application.
