NOTICE!! NO POOL PARTIES ALLOWED! (AS POSTED): The pool pavilion is for the use of ALL homeowners. A total of 5 guests only per homeowner household is allowed at any time. If you want to have a party of any kind, you may reserve the community center and make arrangements with SCS. The Recreation Room can be reserved for a fee and a deposit. POOL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!! This year the pool will be programmed to open the gate on the appropriate days and times of operation. In the past, volunteers opened/closed the pool with a chain lock. Your cards will open the gate if your account is in good standing and only during pool hours. VOLUNTEERS are needed to close the pool, pick up trash and straighten the chairs and tables. We are very shorthanded this year. If we cannot find volunteers for closing the pool , the hours may change for pool closing daily like other subdivisions. You would only have to do it one week per month or if we find more volunteers 1 week every 5 weeks. If you are interested, please contact Melissa at SCS, 281-463-1777. TRESPASSING: Jumping over the fence when the pool is closed is trespassing and illegal. May 29th, we had an incident where 4 male teens jumped the fence around 9:41 PM and TRIED to steal 2 of our pool tables. They even went as far as using bolt cutters to cut the chain since they were bolted down to the cement. Their attempt failed and they put the tables back. We believe that they were seen by people walking their pets. They were caught on camera and the tape is at the Sheriff’s department for investigation. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS, CALL AND REPORT IT! Program your phone for the non-emergency phone number to the Sheriff’s department (713-221-6000 #1) or crimes in progress dial 911. You do not have to give out your name. How else can we keep our neighborhood safe??? DOG OWNERS!!!!! Please do not let your dogs to do their business on other people’s yards, sidewalks or on the concrete walking path of the Greenbelt. Be considerate of other homeowners!!!!!!!!!! Also, all dogs must be kept on a leash. We have had several complaints about dogs and cats roaming the neighborhood and getting into the trashcans and back yards. If this is persistent, the Harris County Animal Control will be notified to take care of the matter. FENCES: Homeowners need to keep up all their fences facing the green belt and trees trimmed! Some fences are in dire need of repair and have boards missing. This is not a very pretty sight to see when the fences are falling apart. It is also against deed restriction violation. NO PARKING IN THE PARK /POOL AREA AFTER 9 PM AREA OR VEHICLES WILL BE TOWED.

(CPV) CRIME WATCH

Report any suspicious behavior. Report it to the Harris County Sheriff’s dispatcher. You do not have to leave a name or number, call 713-221-6000, prompt 1. CRIMES IN PROGRESS CALL 911 NON-EMERGENCY: 713-221-6000, prompt 1 Report any strange activity you see by calling the Sheriff’s Department! Nothing is too small to report. Helpful hints below to prevent crime: • Keep doors and windows locked at home and vehicles. • Do not leave visible items such as phones, computers, iPads, garage door openers, etc. in vehicles. • Do not open door to strangers or solicitors. • Keep your yard and home well lit at night to discourage break-ins. • Report strange activity in your neighborhood. • Keep your eyes and ears opened. (EC) NEW PAINT COLORS

Easton Commons has updated the approved paint colors for the neighborhood. A copy of the new colors are available at the Copperfield Community Center (15409 Willow River Drive), Sherwin Williams (5814 Hwy. 6 N.) and at Graham Management’s office (12000 Westheimer Rd.).

No batteries, glass, metal or needles will be accepted. This is a residential service only, no businesses. For more information, call 713-759-9454.

(EC) MOSQUITO CONTROL

Although the Easton Commons HOA has mosquito control come through regularly during the summer, it is not enough to get rid of them completely. The summer months can be uncomfortable, due to all of the biting insects. One of the best ways to prevent mosquitoes is to eliminate their breeding grounds. Controlling mosquitoes also minimizes the risk of mosquito-borne diseases, including St. Louis encephalitis and West Nile Virus encephalitis. Homeowners need to scan their property and dispose of or remedy anything causing standing water. The eggs that mosquitoes lay in rainwater hatch in as little as two days. Tip over buckets or containers, flowerpots with reservoirs, toys, boats, wheelbarrows, birdbaths and wading pools. Clean clogged roof gutters; fill in low areas of the yard that collects water, dispose of leaf piles and chlorinate pools. Treat water in fountains or water gardens if the water does not flow on a regular basis.

(EC) NEXT MEETING OF THE HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Homeowners Association will be on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the Copperfield Community Center at 15409 Willow River Drive. The meeting will begin at 6:30 PM. Residents are invited to attend.

Middlegate Village (MG) EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT

Middlegate is pleased to announce the completion of an Eagle Scout Project that involved installing two barbeque grills with cement pads at the Pool Park. This project was planned and organized by Joshua Furstenberg of Troop 202 for his Eagle Scout Project. The plan was presented to the Board for approval and then organized with other Scouts and Troop leaders to obtain the materials and complete the installation. Middlegate Village is very appreciative of his hard work and would like to thank Josh for giving back to his community. Residents, once again, have barbeque grills to use and enjoy our in our beautiful pool park. Thank you Joshua and all those in Boy Scout Troop 202!

(MG) POOL NEWS

(MG) BIRD NEWS

Please remember that this year pool tags will be available for pick-up at the SCS Management Office at 7170 Cherry Park Drive, Houston, Texas 77095. Pool tags will be given out Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 4 PM. Pool tags will not be mailed and will not be at the Copperfield Community Center. Proper identification or proof of residence is required. And you must have a zero balance on your homeowners dues account to be given your pool tags. As advised previously, there will be a $10 late fee for picking up tags after May 31st.

Egrets and night herons are back in our neighborhood. The absolute critical time period is between when the first bird is spotted in the area until the first egg is laid in a nest. This is crunch time when you have the only opportunity to scare the birds away and to disrupt the problem. Any home with mature trees is a potential nesting site for these birds. Efforts in the park have begun, but the birds are waiting in nearby trees to return to the park at night. If you have not yet taken action to prevent nesting on your property, please do so now.

MIDDLEGATE POOL SCHEDULE

Prevention is crucial! Because egrets, herons and other migratory birds are protected by international treaty, it’s illegal for residents to harass or harm the birds once they lay eggs. Preventing birds from building nests on residential property in the first place is key. When the birds first arrive in spring, they are somewhat nervous and more easily scared away. Putting visual deterrents in trees is recommended before nest building begins. You can also scare off birds with noisemakers, water sprayers and other non-lethal devices. Neighbors are advised to check their trees daily and remove the start of any nest. Once birds begin sitting on the nest, eggs are probably present and birds cannot be harassed.

Watch for Signs! Night herons are the first to migrate in mid-February. While not usually a nuisance, the presence of night herons lets other migrating birds know they’ve found a good place to nest. It is important for the entire neighborhood to act together. Our hope is migrating birds eventually make their rookery in trees away from residential homes. This is a list of possible tools and tactics you can use to deter migratory birds from nesting on your property. Experts say a variety of deterrents works best. Just remember, do not harm birds or eggs. Trim your trees, remove deadwood and thin tree canopy to allow sunlight between limbs and other trees. Experts say this is the most effective step you can take. Some visual deterrents you can use are to hang aluminum pie plates, mylar balloons, beach balls with shiny streamers or other moving objects in large trees.

(NM) PARK UPDATES

There have been many renovations made to the parks this year. Please visit your neighborhood parks on Pebble Lake and Spring Green and see the new equipment and upgrades!

(NM) DEED RESTRICTIONS

While no one likes receiving a Deed Restriction notice, it’s a necessary evil to keep the neighbor in good repair, which protects everyone’s property values. If you receive a letter and have a question or need additional time to make a repair, please call Graham Management at 281-497-4320. We are here to help.

3 Rooms...... 1 Story...... 2 Story......

We discussed the past year’s completed projects, such as the LED park lighting, the park communication signs, added barbecue pits, updated our pool pump rooms with state of the art equipment and computerized liquid chlorine feeder, etc. We also discussed future projects, like the community landscape project, replastering and redecking of the Autumn Laurel pool, security camera system at both pools, etc. In addition, the Board presented the budget, which is in excellent condition, hence why our HOA dues have not increased in the past five years. We hold drawings at our annual meeting in three categories: Those who attend, those who send in their proxies and a general drawing for both those who attended and sent in their proxies.

Other forms available include the Deputy Request form to report traffic problems and park problems, etc. The Alarm System Permit Application and Homeowner’s Insurance Rate Reduction forms are also available for download. A few minutes of your time looking at this website, provides lots of valuable information and is worth the effort.

(WC) CRIME PREVENTION TIP

The school year is almost over and area pools open for the weekends beginning in May. Be alert for suspicious activity in the neighborhood, especially around the pool and park areas. While at the pool, do not leave valuables in vulnerable locations - lying on tables, lounge chairs or visibly displayed in parked vehicles. Avoid taking money or credit cards. The theft of personal items can ruin a pleasant day spent at the park or pool.

Meetings - 3rd Monday at 6 PM Forest Heights Pool Meeting Room

(WC) STAY INFORMED AND PARTICIPATE

Westcreek needs Block Captains. This takes little time or effort. Your job is to pass on information when necessary from the Crime Watch Committee to the neighbors on your street. For more information contact Larry Berger at Larry.Berger@energytransfer.com. Always be aware of your surroundings and if you see something suspicious, report it by calling the non-emergency Sheriff’s Department number 713221-6000 #1. Remember to program this number into your cell phone.

(WC) VACATION WATCH

Summer is quickly approaching and this means vacations with homeowners needing a reliable, trustworthy person to check on their residence. Remember you can request a Sheriff’s Deputy to stop by and check on your home. Simply follow these instructions: 1) log onto www.Copperfield.org; 2) select Westcreek Village 3) next select Westcreek Crime Watch website and finally, 4) select forms - Vacation

Copperfield

Watch. After downloading the form, you must mail or fax the form at least 5 days before the watch begins.

(WC) SHERIFF DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

If you notice anything suspicious in the neighborhood, report it directly to the non-emergency Sheriff Department’s number at 713-221-6000 # 1. Take a minute to program this number into the cell phone of each family member. The more eyes, the better the crime prevention. Be a good neighbor and remember to park your vehicles in the garage or in your driveway, especially at night. And remember to keep your vehicles locked at all times and remove valuables. These simple steps not only would reduce crime in the neighborhood significantly, but would also serve as a deterrent. These are crimes of opportunity. No opportunity, no crime. To be better informed about the crime in our area, simply log onto www. crimereports.com and provide local address. The Harris County Sheriff’s Dept. updates this site to inform the public of the crimes committed. This site is easy to use and is a vital tool for keeping us aware of what is occurring in our neighborhood.

75TH FESTIVAL CLOSES OUT ANNIVERSARY SCHOOL YEAR IN CELEBRATORY STYLE

IMPORTANT DATES

Thousands of community members helped bring Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s 75th Anniversary school year celebration to a close at the 75th Anniversary Festival at the Berry Center on April 25th.

June 4th - Last Day of School

Sponsored by Northwest Dodge and Bridgeland, the year-end celebration capped a school year that has paid tribute to 75 years of excellence dating back to the union of the Cypress and Fairbanks school systems in 1939. The free event kicked off in the front parking lot of the Berry Center with carnival amusements, games, bounce houses, a climbing wall, a juggler, unicyclist, stilt walker and a horse-and-buggy ride. More than 60 vendor booths lined the center of the carnival. Local country-western band Sawdust Road provided musical entertainment and guests dined from various food trucks.

Fireworks light up the sky over the Berry Center Stadium scoreboard for the culminating event of the 75th Anniversary school year, the 75th Anniversary Festival.

A stilt walker greets a child in the carnival section of the 75th Anniversary Festival celebration. The evening concluded inside Berry Center Stadium, where spectators were treated to performances by Martial Arts USA, the Cypress Lakes and Cypress Ranch high school drill teams and the Cy-Fair High School marching band. Student representatives from each district campus paraded into the stadium while holding a banner bearing their school’s name, then performed “We’ve Schools Everywhere,” a spin-off of the song “I’ve Been Everywhere” that listed each district school and support facility. After briefly addressing the crowd, Dr. Henry cued a seven-minute fireworks display, which lit up the sky over the Berry Center scoreboard.

Hollie Davies, regional director of Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-10)’s office, presents Dr. Mark Henry, CFISD superintendent, with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition to commemorate Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s 75th Anniversary school year.

Although the 28,144 runners worldwide fell short of the world-record goal of 107,000, MSgt. Anthony Bullock of the Langham Creek AFJROTC said he was proud of the cadets’ commitment, unity and enthusiasm. “We had maximum participation even though it looked like it was going to storm,” he said. “Many cadets ran with other cadets who may have been challenged by the 5K. Some finished and even went back to run with other cadets. Everyone had the opportunity to get involved and our cadets chose to take on the challenge.”

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT

Please contact Angelita Guerrero, Copperhead District Executive (713-7563389 or email angelita.guerrero@scouting.org) or to go www.copperhead. shac.org to find join a Scouting unit near you.

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high selfesteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly. Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley, Horne, Jowell, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan, Tipps, Walker and Wilson. Other Community groups include: Autumn Creek Baptist Church, Beck and Masten Automotive, Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Copperfield

At all three worship services (8:30, 9:30 & 10:45 AM), we will give a gift to every man in attendance. We will also be giving an additional gift to three of our special fathers: the oldest father in attendance, the father with the youngest child in nursery/worship and the father with the most children present. The theme of the service will be centered around Dr. Dave Meadows’ Father’s Day message entitled, “How Big Is Your God, Daddy?” as we honor our fathers and other men who have touched our lives with their guidance and love. Make plans to join us for the special worship opportunity and be sure to bring your dad! FREE MOVIE NIGHT, JUNE 13TH! Great Movie! Fun People! Free Childcare! What are you doing on Saturday evening on June 13th? How about coming for a free movie night at Cornerstone UMC? At 5 PM the friendliest church in the neighborhood will host a movie night for the community. All ages are invited! Pack your neighbors in the van and head to Cornerstone United Methodist Church on June 13th. “I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through June. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

CORNERSTONE UMC LAUNCHES SUMMER SHOE DRIVE!

Cornerstone United Methodist Church is conducting a shoe collection drive, which will run until the end of July to raise funds for our family life center. We will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will be utilized towards the costs associated with our family life center. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 18081 West Road. You can bring your donations by MondayThursday 9 AM-4 PM or contact the church office to schedule a time to pick up the shoes. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. By donating shoes to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives. For more information or questions about the shoe drive, please contact Scott Grow at youth@cornerstoneumc.org or contact the church office at 281-859-4141.

If you or your organization would like to hold a food or clothing drive for StandUp For Kids please contact me at HeatherE@standupforkids.org to learn more about StandUp For Kids or how you can help visit our website at www.standupforkids.org. The single greatest need, for homeless and street kids is our continuous caring and real support. We must convince them that we care, we want them back and we want to help them get off the streets.

LOCAL MENTORS NEEDED TO MENTOR ONE CHILD & CHANGE TWO LIVES!

CROSSROADS is a nonprofit United Way agency that provides mentors for at risk youth between the ages of 10 and 17. Visit our website at www. crossroads-volunteers.org and consider running an ad like the one below in your Copperfield subdivision newsletter. Many young people don’t have strong positive adult influences in their lives to help guide them through these crucial years. Mentoring makes a difference in both the life of the youth and our community. A commitment of 1 hour weekly is all we ask. Help us shape the leaders of tomorrow by contacting Jan, CROSSROADS Volunteer Recruiter at Jan.gibbs@hcjpd.hctx.net or 713-295-2779. Mentor one child… change two lives.

FOSTER CHILDREN: PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING (PAL)

When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent. That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month. Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). Kahlua® Chocolate Cheesecake

INGREDIENTS: 12 ounces cream cheese, room temperature 1/2 cup white sugar 3 eggs, room temperature 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream 2 tablespoons coffee-flavored liqueur (such as Kahlua®) 3 (1 ounce) squares milk chocolate, coarsely chopped 1/2 cup heavy cream 1 cup whipped cream for garnish (optional) 2 tablespoons Shaved chocolate, to garnish (optional)

DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). In a mixing bowl, blend cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing until fully incorporated before adding the next egg. Mix in 3 tablespoons whipping cream and the coffee-flavored liquor. Pour into an 8-inch glass pie pan. Place chocolate in a small heat-proof bowl and set aside. In a small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup whipping cream just to a boil. Pour it over the chopped chocolate; let chocolate soften for about 3 minutes. Whisk until smooth. Drizzle chocolate in a spiral pattern over filling. Stir lightly with tip of a paring knife to achieve a marbling effect. Set the pie pan in a larger pan with water that comes halfway up side of pie pan. Bake in preheated oven until firm in the center, about 55 minutes. Cool completely and refrigerate, covered with plastic wrap, overnight. Garnish with whipped cream piped or dolloped around edges and shaved chocolate in center. http://allrecipes.com/ Submitted by golddigge
