The New Year is in full swing and we are excited about next month, when we will have our very first Chili Cook Off! Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 26th. Come join us or participate, as we taste-test the contestant’s original and family chili recipes and judge for the winner. Keep reading for more details on how to register your chili and participate in the cook off. There will be prizes for the winners! Looking back, our hayride was cancelled due to inclement weather. In case you missed it, we did get together the following Sunday and celebrated in the holiday spirit with cookies, cocoa and Santa Claus! Keep reading to see some photos from the event. TRASH AND RECYCLE REMINDER
Don’t forget trash days are Mondays and Thursdays. Recycling is picked up in the red bins on Mondays. They come early, so be sure you put out your trash the night before or early in the morning. Reminder that trashcans are to be stored out of public view, except for on designated trash days. This helps keep the community looking good.

CBE 1ST ANNUAL CHILI COOK OFF
Saturday, March 26, 2016 will be our first ever friendly neighborhood food feud: Chili Cook Off time! The Cook-Off will be from 11 AM to 1 PM am at the Pool Clubhouse area. Participants must bring their chili in an unmarked container with a serving spoon. We will provide garnishes and condiments as well as spoons, bowls and water. You must make enough chili for at least 12 servings to ensure everyone can have a sample and vote for their favorite. If you lack skills in the kitchen, we can still use your taste bud expertise, so come out and sample the different chili’s and vote for your favorite. The rules are simple: 1) Submit your recipe with your chili. No cheating: your chili must be made from SCRATCH (no pre-seasoned packets can be used) 2) Chili must be fully cooked, heated and ready to serve (eat) at entry time (11 AM) 3) You can make your chili with or without beans, with any kind of meat (turkey, beef, chili, tofu, etc.) 4) Voters will be judging according to the following criteria: Color, Aroma, Consistency, Taste & After-taste

Here is the schedule for the collection of the Association’s Assessments: November 30th: Initial invoices are mailed out by the end of November. Please make sure the management company has your correct mailing address. January 1st: The Assessment is due on January 1st every year. January 31st: Unpaid Assessments become delinquent. February 1st: Late fees and interest begin and Late Notices are mailed out for all delinquent accounts. March 1st: A Warning Letter is mailed out on all delinquent accounts. April 1st: A Final Notice is mailed (via certified mail) on all delinquent accounts. There is a $35 charge to the delinquent account at this time. May 1st: If payment has not been received or a payment plan has not been entered, delinquent accounts are sent to the Attorney at this time. The Attorney can file a lien and all legal fees will be billed back to the delinquent account. PAYMENT OPTIONS: 1. If you are unable to make payment in full, please contact KPM Management so that you can make payment arrangements. You will still pay interest on the unpaid balance, but you will not be sent to the attorney. 2. Statements will be mailed the first of every month for accounts making payments. 3. Many homeowners have started making monthly pre-payments ahead of time, so that when the assessment becomes due they are already paid.

Replenish mulch as needed. • Control early spring insects like thrips on glads and aphids on young tender growth. We will offer several evaluations (skills assessment) days so we can check on their skill level and even out the teams. The first evaluation will be Monday, Tuesday and Thursday Nights, February 22nd, 23rd and 25th, between 5-6:30 PM. The last evaluation will be Saturday, February 27th between 9-11 AM. It only takes a few minutes for us to run them through the drills and then we will contact each player the week before they begin practices. After Monday, February 29th, we cannot guarantee a place on a team. They will practice for one hour a week on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Practices begin the week of March 21st and the league runs through May 21st. The early cost will be $80 for those registering before February 23rd. After February 23rd, the cost will be $90. Registration will begin January 1st. FORWARD BASKETBALL - HIGH SCHOOL GUYS Be a part of one of our basketball leagues. Practice/Games will be on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday nights. MEN’S OUTWARD FLAG FOOTBALL Come join men 18 yrs and older for our men’s Outward Flag Football league coming this spring. Practice/Games will be on Saturday afternoons around 2 PM. The league will have a tournament at the conclusion of the season. HOUSTON FAMILY ARTS CENTER ASKS AUDIENCES,‘WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?’ IN 2015-2016
“What’s wrong with this picture?” is the playful theme and question attached to each show in Houston Family Arts Center’s (HFAC) 2015-2016 season. Entering its 10th mainstage season, HFAC orchestrated a line-up of allencompassing shows that highlight the theatre’s award-winning musical expertise, all while enveloping theatre experiences full of odd, zany, mystical and dramatic turmoil audiences love. The first half of the season as follows: 2016 January 29th-February 21st: “Forever Plaid” On their way to see the Beatles’ American debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, a quartet of high school friends’ musical dreams begin and quickly end after a car crash involving a busload of Catholic schoolgirls. March 11th-April 3rd: “Harvey” What do you get when you mix a polite and friendly man with a strange, sixfoot-tall, invisible rabbit named Harvey? A sister who wants to commit her brother, but gets committed herself and a town comically turned upside down on the search for a mild-mannered hero and his invisible friend. All performances are on the HFAC Garza Mainstage, recently named “Houston’s Best Gem of a Theatre” by the Houston Press, except for Peter Pan, which will be performed at the Berry Center.

Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle! We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 38 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year is titled “Through the Years” We are singing songs from 1900 and every decade after that. Harris County ESD 48 Fire Department was formed on August 17, 2015 and assumed the role of emergency service provider in the territory covered by Emergency Services District #48 (ESD 48). “We are very proud of the fact that almost 95% of the active personnel from the previous fire department chose to join us creating a ‘Fire Department of the future,’” said Fire Chief Hevey. HCESD 48 Fire Department is a true combination fire department staffed 24/7 with full-time, part-time and volunteer personnel. In addition to answering the call when and emergency happens, we are very focused on preventing emergencies like never before.
