Happy New Year! If you’re reading this, you made it through the Holiday’s (hopefully) in stride! Whether you kicked off the New Year by stuffing yourself with leftovers and eggnog or by getting a head start on your weight loss goals with a juice in hand - 2016 is here and it’s going to be a good one. But it can be the best one yet if you add this to your resolutions list: Participate, participate and participate in your Creek Bend Estates community! Please note that we cannot ensure the success and fellowship of the neighborhood and community without you. There’s no doubt that time is not always by our side with work life and family life being as busy as it is, but we can all carve in an hour or two every couple of months to get together with each other.
Unpaid dues lead to several thousands of dollars in lawyers and collections fees, which in turn can drive up assessment fees. We understand that times are difficult - and if necessary, we will work with you to make a payment plan for your assessment. Please contact KPM for more details. We are looking for volunteers! If you are interested in being a “Street Ambassador,” please let us know at mgmt@kpmmanagement.com. Your duties will include recruiting your neighbors to attend various neighborhood events and activities, as well as being the “go-to” for any questions and concerns your neighbors may have.
CBE 1ST ANNUAL CHILI COOK OFF
Saturday, March 26, 2016 will be our first ever friendly neighborhood food feud: Chili Cook Off time! The Cook-Off will be from 11 AM to 1 PM am at the Pool Clubhouse area. Participants must bring their chili in an unmarked container with a serving spoon. We will provide garnishes and condiments as well as spoons, bowls and water. You must make enough chili for at least 12 servings to ensure everyone can have a sample and vote for their favorite.

If you lack skills in the kitchen, we can still use your taste bud expertise, so come out and sample the different chili’s and vote for your favorite. The rules are simple: 1) Submit your recipe with your chili. No cheating: your chili must be made from SCRATCH (no pre-seasoned packets can be used) 2) Chili must be fully cooked, heated and ready to serve (eat) at entry time (11 AM) 3) You can make your chili with or without beans, with any kind of meat (turkey, beef, chili, tofu, etc.) 4) Voters will be judging according to the following criteria: Color, Aroma, Consistency, Taste & After-taste

ANNUAL ASSESSMENTS
Here is the schedule for the collection of the Association’s Assessments: November 30th: Initial invoices are mailed out by the end of November. Please make sure the management company has your correct mailing address. January 1st: The Assessment is due on January 1st every year. January 31st: Unpaid Assessments become delinquent. February 1st: Late fees and interest begin and Late Notices are mailed out for all delinquent accounts. March 1st: A Warning Letter is mailed out on all delinquent accounts. April 1st: A Final Notice is mailed (via certified mail) on all delinquent accounts. There is a $35 charge to the delinquent account at this time. May 1st: If payment has not been received or a payment plan has not been entered, delinquent accounts are sent to the Attorney at this time. The Attorney can file a lien and all legal fees will be billed back to the delinquent account. PAYMENT OPTIONS: 1. If you are unable to make payment in full, please contact KPM Management so that you can make payment arrangements. You will still pay interest on the unpaid balance, but you will not be sent to the attorney.

On the front lawn or wherever visible from the street, there shall be no decorative appurtenances placed, such as sculptures, bird baths, fountains, or other decorative embellishments, fences or plants, hedges, trees, shrubs, walls, structure or other improvement (including play ground and recreation equipment) unless the same shall have been approved in writing by the Architectural Control Committee. In addition to the Deed Restrictions, more specific information regarding yard decorations are addressed in the ACC Guidelines, which state that no more than 3 yard decorations not to exceed 2 feet are allowed with ACC approval.

• Birds: Provide food and fresh water. More birds die from lack of water than from lack of food. • Cacti: Semi-dormant now. Reduce watering. • Camellias: Plants may be moved. Pick up and discard fallen blooms. • Cultivation: Changes in design may now be made, new beds dug and old ones rebuilt. Correct defects in drainage. Incorporate gypsum into heavy soils: repeat in three weeks. Dig granite dust, rock phosphate and quantities of organic matter into soil. Allow time for settling before planting. • Fertilize: Daylilies, spuria, Louisiana and bearded irises with complete fertilizer. Give strawberries 1 teaspoon ammonium sulfate, keeping six inches away from plant. Fertilize pansies with manure tea or blood meal. Water in. • Fruits: Plant fruit trees. Mulch figs with grass or straw to prevent freeze damage to crown. • House Plants: Water, when surface soil is crumbly dry. Wash dust off leaves to open pores. Mist often. Inspect for diseases and insects. Reduce water for poinsettias. • Lawns: Remove thatch aerate, and feed with low nitrogen mixture. • Pests: For petal blight prevention, spray azaleas and camellias as flowers open. Spray for scale with dormant oil solution if temperature will be above 35˚ and below 85˚ for next 48 hours. Always read and heed manufacturer’s directions before spraying. • Propagation: Ivy cuttings root easily this month and next. Root cuttings of shrubs in mixture of loam and coarse sand; keep damp and semi-shaded until rooted. • Prune: Fruit trees in advance of new growth. Prune to groom and shape. Do not remove too much. Remove dead wood from trees and shrubs before spring buds swell, but do not prune spring bloomers. Prune crape myrtles. Prune nandina and others of similar growth habit by cutting unwanted canes out at base of plant. • Roses: Annual pruning about the middle of February, just before the spring buds break. To prevent later appearance of disease in the old beds, keep garden clean of debris and weeds. Complete preparation of new beds for roses. • Transplanting: January is one of the best months to transplant woody plants, both evergreen and deciduous, especially trees. Energy will be expended on roots instead of foliage. Learn ultimate size and cultural needs of tree or plant before buying. Consider dwarf varieties to avoid crowding later. Group plants of similar cultural needs. Do not work wet soil. Assure good drainage. Keep plants moist. • Vegetables: Prepare beds, preferably raised for drainage, with about 50% humus, including rotted manure. • Winter Protection: Expect freeze any time; plan for protection of tender plants. Water. Remove coverings, particularly plastic, when temperature rises. Protect low plants with dry leaves, pine needles or soil mulch, but remove when weather warms.

FIRST ANNUAL WOMEN’S QUARTER MARATHON EVENT - JANUARY 9, 2016
The 2016 Women’s Quarter Marathon is a women’s-only race to empower women and young girls through fitness and a healthy lifestyle. The route will start at Central Green Park, run through Cinco Ranch and back to Central Green Park where the post-race party will take place. The distance is a quarter of a marathon, which is 6.55 miles. The Mini-Quarter Marathon is 1.25 miles and is designed for girls under the age of 13 who also want to join the movement. Registration opened September 15, 2015 for this new Houston running event. Girls Inc. of Greater Houston’s mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold by developing programs of informal education that empowers girls to live and succeed in an inequitable world. Entering its 10th mainstage season, HFAC orchestrated a line-up of allencompassing shows that highlight the theatre’s award-winning musical expertise, all while enveloping theatre experiences full of odd, zany, mystical and dramatic turmoil audiences love. The first half of the season as follows: January 29th-February 21st: “Forever Plaid” On their way to see the Beatles’ American debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, a quartet of high school friends’ musical dreams begin and quickly end after a car crash involving a busload of Catholic schoolgirls. March 11th-April 3rd: “Harvey” What do you get when you mix a polite and friendly man with a strange, sixfoot-tall, invisible rabbit named Harvey? A sister who wants to commit her brother, but gets committed herself and a town comically turned upside down on the search for a mild-mannered hero and his invisible friend. All performances are on the HFAC Garza Mainstage, recently named “Houston’s Best Gem of a Theatre” by the Houston Press, except for Peter Pan, which will be performed at the Berry Center.

Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle! We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 38 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography.
