MESSAGE FROM YOUR HOA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Greeting fellow homeowners,
The Annual General Meeting in April voted in again the existing Board of Directors: Larry Ramirez, Alan Parinello, Stephen Howard, Dena Loughlin and Jack Evans. Everything seems to be rolling along very smoothly; crime in the area is down, swim team is getting ready for another successful season and our common areas and entrance flower beds are looking colorful and inviting; thanks to the efforts of Bradley Reid and his team at Hi-Tech Lawn Services. There are still a number of homeowners who have not yet paid their 2015 HOA dues. You can avoid major legal and/or late fees by contacting our community manager, Mike Crahan, to set up a payment plan if you are not able to settle your account in full. The next major holiday event will be the July 4th picnic. This year there are plans in hand to match the Easter Egg Hunt event… BUT… we need volunteers to help. No one is expected to spend the whole afternoon working, but an hour or two of your time would spread the workload and make it all possible. Please contact Mike Crahan or Krystal Salazar if you would like to be part of this celebration: m.crahan@ pmghouston.com or k.salazar@pmghouston.com On a safety note, please drive carefully through our neighborhood. Kids are excited to be out of school so pay special attention in the areas where “Children Playing” notices are displayed. Have a safe and happy summer. Your HOA Board of Directors

requirements…the accumulation of garbage, trash or rubbish of any kind or the burning of any materials is prohibited. 6 homeowners were sent deed violation letters for having recreational vehicles/boats in public view. Section 9. No boat trailer, boats, travel trailers, inoperative automobiles, campers or vehicles of any kind shall be left unattended in the public street right-of-way. No boat trailer, boats, travel trailers, inoperative automobiles or campers shall be allowed to remain unmoved for more than 96 hours if in public view. Only operative/licensed automobiles, both passenger cars and pick-up trucks, will be allowed forward of the front building line for more than 96 hours. Storage of such items and vehicles must be out of public view. 25 homeowners still have their trashcans in the front driveway. Trashcans need to be out of public view. Place your trashcan in the garage or behind your fence.
Bring the family and enjoy hot dogs and all the fixings, train rides and the kid’s ever exciting parade… decorate your bikes, buggies, wagons and yourselves. Plans are being finalized to make this event an even bigger neighborhood event. Think about volunteering and hour or two of your time; without volunteer, these events will not continue to happen. Watch the Facebook page or your website: www.cypressmillhoa.com for details.
ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL COMMITTEE So you’d like to build an igloo? Or paint your house red and blue to pay tribute to your favorite sports team? These are easily identified as requests that would not be allowed in our neighborhood. But what are the kinds of things for which you need to submit a request for approval to the HOA? Basically, if you are making a change to your home or yard, you are required to submit a request. Some common requests are:

This one is a little more complex. If you are replacing your fence with EXACTLY the same fence (in the same place with the same size boards and the same pattern), then you don’t need HOA approval. However, if you are CHANGING anything the pattern of the fence (including installing rot board at the bottom), moving it, adding a gate or changing the material of your fence, then you need approval of the HOA.
AREA FOOD PANTRY
Do you know of someone who has trouble putting food on the table? Maybe their employment was suddenly terminated, maybe it’s a choice between medications or food; for whatever reason, people can find themselves in a situation where they need a little help. Fountain of Life Church of God on Mueschke runs a food pantry on Mondays from 6 - 8 PM and the only stipulation is that the client should live in zip code 77433 and west of Skinner 77429. For more information, contact 281-3739337.
CYPRESS MILL BOOK CLUB
Cypress Mills Book Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 1 PM, in the Recreation center on Mills Park Lane. Our informal discussions are open to adult residents of the Cypress Mill neighborhoods, so feel free to drop in as we welcome all book lovers to join us. For more information or to confirm meeting location, email Patti at patti.parks@sbcglobal.net or call 281-744-5771.
Approval is based on the deed restrictions for your particular section of Cypress Mill. Each section has a different set and you should have received a copy for your section when you built or purchased your home. Please read them and know what is allowed and what is prohibited in our community. The approval process is easy. You can pick up the forms at the community center or you may find them online at www.cypressmillhoa.com. Simply complete the form, include a copy of your property map and samples of any materials like paint color or shingle color and a check for the $25 processing fee. The more information you include with the application, the faster and easier the approval process will be. If we have questions because you didn’t include all of the required information, it will slow the process down. Keep in mind that approval may take up to 30 days - plan ahead! Submit your application early, so that your project is not delayed.
We’ll be discussing these books at upcoming meetings: • June 9th The Paris Architect - Charles Belfoure • July 14th

INGREDIENTS: 1 tablespoon active dry yeast 1 tablespoon quick-rise yeast 3 tablespoons water 5 cups all-purpose flour, divided 2 cups water, divided 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 tablespoon salt 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese 1 habanero pepper, finely chopped (wear gloves) 1/2 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary
DIRECTIONS: Mix active and quick-rise yeast with 3 tablespoons water in a bowl to make a paste. Mix 4 cups of flour with 1 cup water in a large bowl until thoroughly combined; stir yeast mixture into flour mixture. Beat remaining 1 cup water, baking powder, salt, sharp Cheddar cheese, habanero pepper and rosemary into dough; beat remaining 1 cup flour into dough. Turn out onto a floured work surface and knead until dough is soft and elastic, at least 6 minutes. Form dough into a ball, place into an oiled bowl and turn the dough around in the bowl to pick up a thin coating of oil. Cover bowl and let rise for 2 hours. Punch the dough down, turn out onto a floured work surface and knead for 6 more minutes. Divide dough in half and form each half into a loaf; place loaves on a baking sheet. Cover loaves and let rise until doubled, 15 to 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). Bake loaves in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce oven heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake until golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes. http://allrecipes.com/ Submitted by pomplemousse

GENTLE REMINDER ABOUT PETS
ALL pets should be kept on a leash when not on your secured property. Make sure all fences are in good condition and be courteous to other walkers. We have not been notified of any serious incidents in quite a while, so let’s keep it that way.
POOPER SCOOPERS
Need we say more … We continue to receive complaints about residents having to clean up after a neighbor’s dog has left a message on their lawn. Please remember to carry a poop bag with you when taking Fido for a walk. Thank you.
GARDEN TIPS FOR JUNE
Lawns • Apply iron sulfate or chelete to St. Augustine grass lawns. • Mow St. Augustine to a 2-inch height now to protect roots from the sun. Never cut off more than a third of the leaf. • Continue treatment of lawns for chinch bug. As the temperature hits 80 degrees, chinch bugs begin to reproduce in the hottest and driest part of the lawn, usually next to cement. Use diazinon or dursban granules. Flowers • Overwatered hibiscus, purslane and bougainvillea won’t bloom. • Keep flowers pinched off of coleus and caladiums to encourage more of the beautiful foliage. • Plants to set: Acalpha, Ageratum, Alternathera, Aspidistra, Artemisia, Balsam, Begonia, Chrysanthemum, Cockscomb, Coleus, Croton, Dusty Miller, Feverfew, Gaillardia, Geranium, Marigold, Petunia, Pinks, Portulaca, Salvia-red, Shrimp Plant, Torenia, Verbena and Vinca. Vegetables • A strong blast of water in the morning rids plants of most bugs for the rest of the day. • Vegetables to plant: Cantaloupe, Sweet Corn, Cucumber, Eggplant sets, Okra, Black Peas, Pepper Sets, Summer Squash and Sweet Potato. Shrubs • Watch Camellias and Azaleas, they’re setting their blooms now for next season. So give them a good mulch and plenty of water. Mulch well with oak leaves and/or pine needles to keep soil acidic. Benefits of Mulching: Mulching (organic or inorganic) is a layer of material on the surface of the soil around the plant. Mulches conserve water by reducing evaporation, insulates the soil and protects it from the drying wind and hot sun. Mulches break the force of rain and irrigation water and tend to prevent erosion, soil compaction, and crusting. Lastly, a 2-3 inch layer of mulch will almost eliminate weed problems.
REMINDER ABOUT TRASH COLLECTION DAYS
Remember that there is NO trash collection, either regular or recycling, on public holidays: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day, New Year’s Day, Independence Day, etc. Please do not leave trash at the curb expecting collection on those days. If you need clarification, contact Best Trash Services: http://best-trash.com. Trash will be picked up on the next regularly scheduled day: recycling and household trash on Mondays, household trash on Thursdays.
BOOK YOUR PARTY NOW
The meeting/activity room at the rec. center is available for birthday parties, wedding showers, baby showers, etc. Rental is $50 with a $300 deposit. Dates are filling up fast. Contact Mike Crahan for more information.

At all three worship services (8:30, 9:30 & 10:45 AM), we will give a gift to every man in attendance. We will also be giving an additional gift to three of our special fathers: the oldest father in attendance, the father with the youngest child in nursery/worship and the father with the most children present. The theme of the service will be centered around Dr. Dave Meadows’ Father’s Day message entitled, “How Big Is Your God, Daddy?” as we honor our fathers and other men who have touched our lives with their guidance and love. Make plans to join us for the special worship opportunity and be sure to bring your dad! FREE MOVIE NIGHT, JUNE 13TH! Great Movie! Fun People! Free Childcare! What are you doing on Saturday evening on June 13th? How about coming for a free movie night at Cornerstone UMC? At 5 PM the friendliest church in the neighborhood will host a movie night for the community. The movie will be Walt Disney’s “BIG HERO 6” an action comedy adventure about brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. All ages are invited! Pack your neighbors in the van and head to Cornerstone United Methodist Church on June 13th. PATRIOTIC WORSHIP & FELLOWSHIP CELEBRATION On Sunday, June 28th, Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be hosting a special “Patriotic Worship Event.” In celebration of our nation’s birthday on July 4th, Steve Hoyle, the Cornerstone Music Director, has put together a festive musical extravaganza entitled, “Let Freedom Ring.” The program will include patriot songs and readings, a time of prayer for our nation, a salute to our Armed Forces and a “message in song” focusing on “Old-time Southern Gospel” music.

On this Sunday only, rather than the usual three services at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:45 AM (there will also be Christian Education at 9:30 AM), Cornerstone will have just one “churchwide” service at 10:45 AM. The “Patriotic Celebration” will be presented at this churchwide 10:45 AM service. An orchestra will accompany the Cornerstone chancel choir. After the service, there will be a hot dog luncheon and a time of games and fellowship. Don’t miss this wonderful event. Bring your family. Bring your friends. Bring everyone you can and come celebrated with us the birthday of our nation on Sunday, June 28th.
CORNERSTONE UMC LAUNCHES SUMMER SHOE DRIVE!
Cornerstone United Methodist Church is conducting a shoe collection drive, which will run until the end of July to raise funds for our family life center. We will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will be utilized towards the costs associated with our family life center. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 18081 West Road. You can bring your donations by MondayThursday 9 AM-4 PM or contact the church office to schedule a time to pick up the shoes. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. By donating shoes to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives. For more information or questions about the shoe drive, please contact Scott Grow at youth@cornerstoneumc.org or contact the church office at 281-859-4141.

Kahlua® Chocolate Cheesecake
INGREDIENTS: 12 ounces cream cheese, room temperature 1/2 cup white sugar 3 eggs, room temperature 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream 2 tablespoons coffee-flavored liqueur (such as Kahlua®) 3 (1 ounce) squares milk chocolate, coarsely chopped 1/2 cup heavy cream 1 cup whipped cream for garnish (optional) 2 tablespoons Shaved chocolate, to garnish (optional)
DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). In a mixing bowl, blend cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing until fully incorporated before adding the next egg. Mix in 3 tablespoons whipping cream and the coffee-flavored liquor. Pour into an 8-inch glass pie pan. Place chocolate in a small heat-proof bowl and set aside. In a small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup whipping cream just to a boil. Pour it over the chopped chocolate; let chocolate soften for about 3 minutes. Whisk until smooth. Drizzle chocolate in a spiral pattern over filling. Stir lightly with tip of a paring knife to achieve a marbling effect. Set the pie pan in a larger pan with water that comes halfway up side of pie pan. Bake in preheated oven until firm in the center, about 55 minutes. Cool completely and refrigerate, covered with plastic wrap, overnight. Garnish with whipped cream piped or dolloped around edges and shaved chocolate in center. http://allrecipes.com/ Submitted by golddigge June 2015
