MESSAGE FROM YOUR HOA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

DEED RESTRICTION VIOLATIONS

Greetings fellow homeowners: Where did the summer go? Fall is here and hopefully we are all enjoying some cooler weather. There has been a change in your HOA Board of Directors. Jennifer Taylor is a welcome addition to the Board. As a law enforcement officer, she has much to contribute to the smooth running of our neighborhood. Jennifer has graciously consented to run several safety classes for residents.

by Mike Crahan Deed restriction violations for the month of August will be listed in the next issue of the Messenger.

They are: • Adult/teen personal safety class • Personal safety class for kids 5-10 yrs. • Concealed hand gun class

Please join us for a presentation on personal safety presented by Officer Jennifer Taylor. This class is for men and women 11 years old and up. We will discuss safety tips to be aware of that will help keep you safe while shopping, at home or on vacation. This class is free to our residents only on this date. Registration is required if you would like to attend. We can only fit so many people in the clubhouse and need to keep the class manageable so everyone can truly learn.

You will find details in a separate article. These classes are for residents only. Please be aware that notices will soon be sent out to homeowners who have basketball hoops set up in the street. We have turned a blind eye to these in the past but homeowners have complained that they do not comply with the Bylaws and also it has now become a safety issue. You will still be allowed to have them set up in your driveway.

ADULT/TEEN PERSONAL SAFETY CLASS

Don’t forget our Veterans Day Celebration on November 8th. If you would like to volunteer a couple of hours to honor our neighborhood vets, please contact Mike Crahan, m.crahan@pmghouston.com.

Officer Jennifer Taylor is a Cypress Mill Park resident and the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Stafford. Officer Taylor has been a police officer for almost 20 years. She is looking forward to meeting you and helping us all work together to keep our community safe.

Have a safe and happy Halloween Your HOA Board of Directors

No children under the age of 11. Language will be frank and not appropriate for children under 11. If you are concerned

Everyone loves a good scare on Halloween, but not when it comes to child safety. There are several easy and effective behaviors that parents can share with kids to help reduce their risk of injury. Hard Facts On average, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Top Tips • Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors. Since masks can sometimes obstruct a child’s vision, try non-toxic face paint and makeup whenever possible. • Have kids use glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers. • Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night without adult supervision. If kids are mature enough to be out without supervision, remind them to stick to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in groups. • Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM so be especially alert for kids during those hours. • When selecting a costume make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls. ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL COMMITTEE

Saturday October 24, 2015 9am - 4pm

So you’d like to build an igloo? Or paint your house red and blue to pay tribute to your favorite sports team? These are easily identified as requests that would not be allowed in our neighborhood. But what are the kinds of things for which you need to submit a request for approval to the HOA? Basically, if you are making a change to your home or yard, you are required to submit a request. Some common requests are:

Featuring Arts, Crafts, Specialty Foods, Fashion Goods & More! Located at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church 6646 Addicks-Satsuma Houston, TX 77084

(In Northwest Houston, approx. 1 mile east of Hwy 6 between FM 529 & West Little York)

• Installing a pool • Replacing windows, doors or shutters • Building a covered patio • Installing a storage unit • Installing an irrigation system • Replacing your roof • Painting your home/trim • Removing/replacing the trees in your front yard

Hosted by SEAS Ladies Auxiliary

We also get a lot of requests about replacing your fence. This one is a little more complex. If you are replacing your fence with EXACTLY the same fence (in the same place with the same size boards and the same pattern), then

you don’t need HOA approval. However, if you are CHANGING anything the pattern of the fence (including installing rot board at the bottom), moving it, adding a gate or changing the material of your fence, then you need approval of the HOA.

or to confirm meeting location, email Patti at patti.parks@sbcglobal.net or call 281-744-5771.

Approval is based on the deed restrictions for your particular section of Cypress Mill. Each section has a different set and you should have received a copy for your section when you built or purchased your home. Please read them and know what is allowed and what is prohibited in our community.

• October 13th • November 10th • December 8th

The approval process is easy. You can pick up the forms at the community center or you may find them online at www.cypressmillhoa.com. Simply complete the form, include a copy of your property map and samples of any materials like paint color or shingle color and a check for the $25 processing fee. The more information you include with the application, the faster and easier the approval process will be. If we have questions because you didn’t include all of the required information, it will slow the process down. Keep in mind that approval may take up to 30 days - plan ahead! Submit your application early, so that your project is not delayed. The ACC committee is made up of volunteer homeowners and our goal is to provide a beautiful and consistent look to our neighborhood.

You will need: • Thin sliced white bread, crusts removed • Soft margarine • Cream cheese or peanut butter • Almonds • Strawberry Jam Directions: 1. Gently flatten the slices of bread with a rolling pin to make them more pliable. 2. Spread with a little margarine and some cream cheese or peanut butter. 3. Roll up the sandwiches and make three indentations with a blunt knife to form the finger joints. 4. Trim the ends of the fingers into a ‘V’ shape and stick an almond on to each tip with a little cream cheese to form the nails. 5. Now for the gruesome bit - add a dollop of strawberry jam over the end of the finger for the blood!

FEEDBACK IS IMPORTANT

Your feedback on anything you read or feel is missing from the Messenger is very important. Please feel free to contact your Community Manager, Mike Crahan, with any comments or suggestions. Also let Mike know if you would be interested in contributing any articles or information.

POOPER SCOOPERS

Need we say more … We continue to receive complaints about residents having to clean up after a neighbor’s dog has left a message on their lawn. Please remember to carry a poop bag with you when taking Fido for a walk. Thank you.

• Dig and store caladiums before the foliage dies. Allow the bulbs to dry in the shade, shake off the dried soil and dust with sulphur to control fungus. Store by hanging in open mesh bags or old panty hose. • Flowers planted for spring can begin when the temperatures are going to stay cooler. Shrubs and trees can be planted now. Woody plants concentrate on root growth through the winter and the more headstart they can get before summer, the better. • October 15th is about the time for dividing and planting daylilies. • Watch out for brown patch in St. Augustine grass. These circular brown patches are caused by a fungus that is activated by moist cool weather. Control with Daconil. • If you need to do any pruning, do it early in the month. The re-growth stimulated by pruning needs to harden off before that odd-ball frost of Halloween. Prune fruit trees when leaves begin to fall. Remove all dead, weak and over-crowded growth. Tip back main branches to control size and shape. Spray w/dormant oil when temperature is between 30-60 degrees. • Cut back tops of perennials after they have bloomed. Divide roots and transplant anytime from now until March, the earlier the better. • Get the ant baits down. This will greatly reduce your spring populations. • Clover left over from last year may be growing. It’s best to hit it with the post-emerge herbicides in October and November. At least two applications are usually needed, even if done this early. • For color throughout the winter, begin planting pansies.

REMINDER ABOUT TRASH COLLECTION DAYS

Remember that there is NO trash collection, either regular or recycling, on public holidays: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day, New Year’s Day, Independence Day, etc. Please do not leave trash at the curb expecting collection on those days. If you need clarification, contact Best Trash Services: http://best-trash.com. Trash will be picked up on the next regularly scheduled day: recycling and household trash on Mondays, household trash on Thursdays.

Mac Wellman’s bizarre and offbeat version of DRACULA completely re-vamps Bram Stoker’s classic novel. Campy and fun, it is the story of two sexually repressed women who find freedom and passion in the vampiric world in the late days of Victorian London. The show was one of Mildred’s Umbrella’s earliest productions and was originally staged by the company in 2004. “We highly recommend the Flory Team, and our experience with them was very professional. They fought to get us our asking price, and we received many showings and offers, in less than 30 days. We will most definitely use them again with our next home purchase. Thanks, Flory Team!” - The Flores Family
