CHRISTMAS

Hard to believe it’s that time of year already…

We will once again be having our annual Christmas decorating contest, with prizes going to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The houses will be judged by children this year, we did this at Halloween and they really enjoyed themselves. We are also having new decorations made for the 3 monument signs; the pictures we saw looked very nice. We will be selling the decorations we used last year, which was the lighted garland we had on the monuments. This garland was only used one. If you are interested in seeing it, contact Stan Craig 832437-1661 and I will bring it out of the storage unit for you to see. From the Board of Directors and AVR Management, have a blessed and wonderful holiday season.

Merry Christmas

Instead the meeting will be held at one of the Board members homes until the church becomes available again. There will be no meetings scheduled for November and December due to the holidays. The new website is up and running and looks great, lots of information is and will be posted on it. I would encourage homeowners to go to www.eagleranchwest. org and if you haven’t yet asked for a login id you can do so on the website and the information will be emailed to you. You will also receive an email when and where the next HOA meeting will be held.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through December. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

CFISD CELEBRATES 75 YEARS

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD was consolidated on Dec. 9, 1939, which means our 75th Anniversary is around the corner. The actual anniversary date is Dec. 9, 2014 and various projects are currently underway to make it a memorable 2014 - 2015 school year. Details are now available on the CFISD website at www.cfisd.net/75. The first event of the celebration will be a Diamond Jamboree at the Berry Center in August, 2014. During this event, we will identify 75 honorees and we need your help. The anniversary honoree designation committee is looking for people or families who have significantly impacted the CFISD community and district during the last 75 years. We want to particularly identify those that have truly captured the anniversary philosophy: “Our children. Our schools. Our community.” Please consider submitting a nomination and review the attached application. For more information on the anniversary, email 75th@ cfisd.net.

TAKE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST CRIME DURING HOLIDAYS

The holidays are busy times and our minds are preoccupied with shopping, baking, planning parties, church activities and so much more. The holidays are also lucrative times for criminals. Here are some tips for our residents: • Never leave packages or attractive items in a vehicle. Lock these in the trunk. Many car burglaries are occurring at various malls and shopping areas on the west and northwest side of Houston. • Try to shop with at least one other person. Stay together and be aware of your surroundings while in parking lots and in stores. • Watch your credit card and your driver’s license. When you pay for your purchases, you will often be asked for your driver’s license with your credit card; you will always have to present identification (usually a driver’s license) when you write a check. Yes, the lines are long and you want to hurry through your transaction, but don’t be tempted to engage in conversation or watch anything or anyone but the clerk processing your transaction. Both of these items should be within your sight at all times. Before you sign a credit card receipt, ask for your credit card and driver’s license. The holidays are great times for identity thieves and those who would steal your credit cards. Be very aware of what is happening when you pay for your purchase. Put everything away before leaving the purchase counter. • Never leave your purse in a locked or unlocked vehicle. Never set your purse down while shopping. Never put your purse in a shopping cart. Always have your purse in your hand or over your shoulder. To avoid purse snatching, cross the purse so that the strap is over one shoulder and the bag is hanging on the opposite side of your body. Men should carry wallets, check books and credit cards in the front pockets of their pants or in a shirt or interior suit pocket.

• When going to your car with your purchases, check the lot for suspicious people. Carefully check around and glance under your vehicle. If a closed van is parked next to the driver’s door, slide in through the passenger side. Check the back seat and back floor before getting into your vehicle. If you are loading small children, lock your purse in the trunk with your packages (keep the keys in your hand or pocket). After the children are secured, take another look around for suspicious activity before you open the trunk to get your purse. When you get into your vehicle, immediately lock the doors, start the engine and drive away. If you feel insecure going into the parking lot, ask for a security guard to accompany you. • When returning home, immediately pull into your garage. If this is not an option, park the car in the driveway and immediately unload all contents and lock the car. Stay alert during this process. • Do not put attractive packages next to windows that offer an easy view from the street. • When leaving your home for the evening, leave some lights and a radio or television turned on. Leave one outside light on. When you return home, check the sides of your house and the area across the street and adjacent to your home from your vehicle before parking. If you are a woman alone, get your house key ready before you exit your car. Lock your car as you are leaving it and immediately go to your door, unlock it, go inside and relock the door. • All homes should be equipped with long dead bolt key locks. Windows should be locked when you are not at home or are not awake. • If you are leaving for the holidays, ask a friend or neighbor to pick up the newspapers and your mail each day or file a stop delivery for these. Complete a vacation watch form at your local sheriff’s department’s storefront.

extreme caution so that you do not inadvertently set a neighbor’s home on fire. After you have finished with your fireworks display, clean up the mess so that it is not left as an eyesore for the neighbors to clean. Please confine fireworks to reasonable hours. Fireworks after 1 AM are annoying to most of your neighbors. If you have children, please closely supervise them. Each year at New Year’s and in July we read of children maimed or killed by fireworks. If you must use fireworks, exercise sober care and watch your children carefully. If you drink, don’t drive. The Sheriff’s Department and DPS will be conducting stepped up programs to lower or eliminate the incidents involving drunk drivers.

By taking a few precautions, you will insure a safe and happy holiday for you and your family.

NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS CAN BRING DANGER

The New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day celebrations can often be fraught with dangers to both people and property. If you plan to use fireworks, please do so in such a way that the debris does not find its way onto your neighbor’s roof or their yard or driveway. Exercise

“Joy to the world the Lord has come...”” this is the good news celebrated during the Christmas season by young and old alike. Cornerstone United Methodist Church will be providing a number of celebration opportunities during the month of December: • On Saturday, December 7th, the church will present a “live” Nativity Scene from 6 to 8 PM. Not only will there be the normal cast of characters including shepherds, wisemen and the baby Jesus, but there will be live animals as well: donkeys, sheep and maybe even a camel. • On Sunday, December 8th, at 10:45 AM, the Children’s choirs will be presenting their Christmas Musical entitled: “An Out-of-the-Box Christmas.” At the 9:30 AM worship service, the Journey Praise Band will be leading worship with celebrative music. At both the 8:30 and 9:30 AM services, Dr. Dave Meadows will be bringing an inspiring Advent message. • On Saturday, December 14th, the Children’s Ministry Team will be sponsoring a special children’s event called “Breakfast with Santa” from 10-11:30 AM that will include pictures with Santa, face painting, donuts, crafts and other family friendly activities. • On Sunday, December 15th, the church will be celebrating “God’s Greatest Gift” Stewardship Commitment Sunday. At both the 8:30 and 10:45 AM services, the Chancel Chimes will be performing their Christmas music. At the 9:30 AM worship service, the Journey Praise Band will be leading worship with celebrative music. At all three services, Dr. Dave Meadows will be bringing an inspiring Advent message. • On Sunday, December 22nd, the Cornerstone Chancel Choir, accompanied by an orchestra, will be presenting a special Christmas music program entitled “Heaven’s Child” at both the 8:30 and the 10:45 AM services. At the 9:30 AM service, led by Journey Praise, the message will be a special “Advent-themed Readers Theater.” • On Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24th, Cornerstone will offer three worship opportunities: 4:00 PM, 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, there will be the Family Christmas Service. In addition to the singing of carols and Communion, children will be invited to the front of the church to hear the Christ Story and receive a special “Christmas” gift from the church. At 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM, there will be a traditional “Candlelight and Communion” service. It will include the retelling of the “Birth of Christ” through Scripture readings and hymns. All three services will include a “Candle Lighting Ceremony” with everyone lighting candles during the singing of “Silent Night.” • On Sunday, December 29th, we will include a “Favorite Christmas Hymn” time at our 8:30 and 10:45 AM services. Worshippers will be given the opportunity to choose their favorite Christmas hymns from The United Methodist Hymnal to be sung. At the 9:30 AM worship service, the Journey Praise Band will be leading worship with celebrative music. At all three services, we will also be celebrating a special moment called “The Blessing of the Toys.” The Rev. Trish Woodruff will be bringing an inspiring post-Christmas message. RELAY FOR LIFE® TEAMS ALREADY FORMING FOR APRIL 25, 2014 EVENT!!

The American Cancer Society’s popular fundraising event in the fight against cancer, Relay For Life®, is now forming both business and personal teams for the April 25, 2014 Cy-Fair event. We are also seeking volunteers, cancer Survivors and CareGivers for the Cy-Fair Relay. Anyone interested in signing up or learning more about how you can help in the fight against cancer can go to www.relayforlife. org/cyfairtx. At Relay For Life® events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. The funds you raise truly make a difference in the fight against cancer - just ask one of the nearly 14 million cancer survivors who will celebrate another birthday this year! Relay For Life® teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park or fairground. Events are up to 24 hours long and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.
