GREAT SEASON FOR LOEST

Another LOEST season is almost over and great fun is being had by all! The team has won 3 of the 4 dual meets and swimmers are dropping times and improving their stroke techniques. The meets have run very smoothly, thanks to all of our volunteers who are doing such a great job! Many swimmers enjoyed some extra competition at the Summer Thunder invitational on June 7th-8th. All the swimmers are looking forward to our last 2 meets and invitationals. After the season is over, we will once again offer a Fall Swim Program for swimmers looking for conditioning and stroke development. It will run from August 25th-Ocotber 29th. Registration will be open at the beginning of August on the LOEST website. The clinic is available to all families, new and returning, but slots are limited. For more information, please refer to the team website http:/loedolphins.swim-team.us.

CALLOWAY/CORNELIUS GOOD NEIGHBOR PROGRAM YARD OF THE MONTH

In the last couple of Newsletters, I had explained that this will be my last year to chair Yard of the Month. If no one is willing to take over this volunteer position, then the Yard of the Month Program will have to be disbanded. I hope this does not happen. People work diligently on their yards and deserve to be rewarded! I am looking for a couple of people who enjoy gardening and would love to oversee this volunteer position. You would be working with Cornelius Nursery. This would probably take up about 3-4 hours a month of your time. I will help you get started. Please let me know if you are interested. My number is 713-466-3306. Thanks, Maggie Wegner The Yard of the Month winners for the month of July are: Winner: Mercedes Perez - 5422 Lake Place Dr. Winner: Susan Rainbolt - 5519 Sterling Brook Honorable Mention: Gus & Georgia Lester - 12915 Silent Shore Dr. Honorable Mention: Richard & Marie Costello - 12103 Millstream Congratulations to you all for a job well done! CONSIDERING GETTING A NEW DOG?

…or if you know friends and family who are, please consider and suggest rescuing vs. buying a dog from a breeder. We have every breed of purebred dog available in our Texas pounds and shelters, in great quantities. This is because of the complete lack of any regulations or limit on breeding in Texas. • Approximately 30-40% of euthanasias in pounds involve purebred animals. • Mixed breeds in Texas stand almost no chance of making it out of the pounds alive. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these dogs; they just had the misfortune of being owned by people who did not provide for their needs and care and obviously had no real commitment to their pet. • Countless numbers of people turn their own dogs in to high-kill shelters, dump them rurally in the middle of nowhere or let them roam and stray. It reflects a mentality that most dog lovers do not understand. • When you or someone you know considers adopting a dog, please check out one of our five local animal shelters: 1. BARC - Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care i.e. Houston’s animal control or city pound 2. Harris County Animal Control 3. Houston SPCA

We will also feature a dog in need as “The Adoptable Dog of the Month” in our Lakes on Eldridge newsletter in every issue. For any questions contact the Pet Safety Committee at www.lakesoneldridge. net or through i-neighbors.org

LAKES ON ELDRIDGE BIBLE STUDY

The LOE Bible Study Group began a new study on February 10, 2015. Does it even seem possible that 2015 is here already? Well, it is and we are not yet ready for the Lord’s return. What does it mean to be ready for the Lord’s return? Dee Brestin shows us through her study “A Woman of Beauty” that looks at First, Second and Third John in the New Testament. Each of these letters from the Apostle John is written to believers in Jesus Christ. They define the beauty that God wants to see in us when He sends Jesus to take us to our eternal home. This beauty is not just outward, but comes from deep within us. We can see from the scriptures exactly what God expects from His faithful followers. Our group meets every Tuesday at 9:15 AM, at the Lakes on Eldridge Beach Club for fellowship, music, study and prayer. We welcome all who would like to know more about growing in God’s love and grace. We finish around 11:30 AM and go out to lunch together on the second Tuesday of the month. If you need additional information or would like to attend, it’s not too late, please come to the Beach Club at Lakes On Eldridge.

PLAY A STRING INSTRUMENT?

A LOE resident, who plays violin and viola, is looking for other string players to play quartet music, on a recreational level. Email: echavlik@earthlink.net or call Ellen at 281-741-1781.

Chief Bragg was recognized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Salute to Law Enforcement, a program that he started. The day allows various law enforcement agencies and the public to come together for a community event in which fallen officers are recognized, scholarships are awarded and demonstrations are presented. Over the last 20 years, the event has reached more than 50,000 members of the public, and each year more than 80 different agencies are represented. “These recipients are true patriots and heroes in our community,” said Chapter Vice President Tom Jackson. “They have profound impacts in our neighborhoods and on our children. They make things better for everyone around them, and that’s exactly the spirit that the leaders, soldiers, merchants and laymen of the American Revolution would have appreciated.”

In a unanimous vote by the CFISD Board of Trustees on May 11th, Good Neighbor Healthcare Center was approved to bring quality health care services to the district’s new 179-acre multi-campus site at FM 529 and Westgreen Blvd. Later this year, GNHC will begin construction on a 10,000-sq.-ft. school-based Federal Qualified Healthcare Clinic. The new clinic will be located within walking distance from a CFISD high school, middle school and elementary school. CFISD, the third-largest school district in the state of Texas, serves more than 113,000 students.

BOARD APPROVES CONTINUATION OF RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTIONS

The Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Board of Trustees approved a resolution to continue the residence homestead exemptions for CFISD residents for the 2015 tax year during the regularly scheduled Board meeting on May 11th. CFISD is among a select group of Houston-area school districts that offer a 20-percent Local Optional Homestead Exemption to all resident homeowners. Coupled with a state-mandated $15,000 homestead exemption, CFISD residents pay less per year than residents of most neighboring districts on homes of the same value. The district also offers local exemptions of $15,000 a piece for both property owners who are age 65 or older or disabled. These residents qualify for an additional $10,000 state-mandated exemption.

CORNERSTONE UMC LAUNCHES SUMMER SHOE DRIVE!

Cornerstone United Methodist Church is conducting a shoe collection drive, which will run until the end of July to raise funds for our family life center. We will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will be utilized towards the costs associated with our family life center. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 18081 West Road. You can bring your donations by Monday-Thursday 9 AM-4 PM or contact the church office to schedule a time to pick up the shoes. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. By donating shoes to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives. For more information or questions about the shoe drive, please contact Scott Grow at youth@cornerstoneumc.org or contact the church office at 281-859-4141.

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, selfconfidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through July. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.
