Green Trails’ annual FourTh oF July Parade and Pool ParTy Despite being on a Wednesday this year, Green Trails’ Annual Fourth of July Parade and Pool bike and ride from Crescent Green park to Gerri Ayers pool. They were cheered on by folks who camped out along the parade route to enjoy the event. After the parade, everyone celebrated our country’s birthday and stayed cool with watermelon, popsicles, play time in the pool and a hula hoop contest. A special thanks goes to our volunteers: Jim and Summer Austin, Peter Bell, Kristie Poldervaart, Chelo Johnson, Steve, Laurie and Scott Sawyer and Abigail Elkins for helping with the event. Green Trails would also like to thank the West I-10 Fire Department and the Harris Country Constables for leading the parade and making sure the day was both fun and safe.

CoMMuniTy evenTs Chair needed

Our current chair will be stepping down and we are in need of someone to step up! If you are interested in being chair for community events (which include: Easter Egg Hunt, July 4th Parade & Pool Party, Fall Dive In Movie & Snow Day), please contact Kristie Poldervaart at poldervaartk@ gmail.com or 281-647-9483.

Pool MoniTor needed For Park CyPress If you use our neighborhood pools, we need you! We are in need of a pool monitor for Park Cypress. This is an easy way to volunteer. You simply observe 2 or 3 times a month (during swim season), each item on the check list (which is provided to you) and report any issues to the Pool Chair. If you are interested in this volunteer position, please contact Kristie Poldervaart at poldervaartk@gmail.com or 281-647-9483.

CoMMuniTy evenTs is GreaTly in need oF volunTeers We have 4 community events a year (Easter Egg Hunt, July 4th Parade & Pool Party, Fall DiveIn Movie & Snow Day) and without volunteers, these events would not happen. In the past, we had enough volunteers where each person only had to help an hour for each event. The more volunteers, the lighter the load for all involved. If you have children who enjoy these events, please consider volunteering and contact Kristie Poldervaart at poldervaartk@gmail.com or 281-6479483.

If you have spots in your yard that are yellowing or dying, chinch bugs could be the culprit. But, be sure you are treating the right problem. Another problem is also appearing in neighborhood lawns: Take-all Root Rot fungus. It attacks both St. Augustine and Bermuda lawns stressed by too much or too little water. It can appear in hot weather, unlike Brown Patch fungus, which usually appears when nights are cooler. Go to www.plantanswers.com/root_

PARENTS: Tweens and teens have been observed damaging our tennis courts and the equipment held within. Your yearly maintenance fees pay for this vandalism directly. Our goal is to keep these costs down while maintaining the nice amenities in our neighborhood for all residents. Please let your children know if they are observed abusing our courts and/or their equipment, the Constable will be called to escort them home. Anyone can report vandalism directly to the Constable at 281-463-6666, in the effort to keep our neighborhood’s common areas in good condition.

New residents needing tennis/pool access cards can contact Crest Management at 281-579-0761. Access cards are for residents only. Card access is the only way to insure our courts are only being used and cared for by our residents and their guests, please do not open the gates for anyone not having a card. To reserve court time the sign-up bulletin board is located inside the tennis courts. Residents may sign up 48 hours in advance for a 1 1/2 hour time period by writing their last name on 3 blocks of the sign-up sheet. (Each block represents 30 minutes). This is to allow maximum court usage for all residents during prime times (mornings and evenings). Should you sign up prior to 48 hours in advance or for longer than 1 1/2 hours, your name will be subject to removal by a committee member. KATY ISD ANNOUNCES TRANSPORTATION CHANGES FOR 2012 - 2013 The Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved a change in the eligibility requirements for students to receive transportation services. Starting in August 2012, the eligibility for bus transportation will change from the current 3/10 of a mile to approximately 1/2 mile for elementary students and approximately one mile for junior high and high school students. Bus transportation will continue to be provided for students for whom a hazardous condition may exist between home and school, as well as special needs bus routes. Approximately 52 bus routes (elementary and secondary) will be eliminated, affecting approximately 6,600 students or nearly 21% of the 32,000 students that ride school buses daily. The Katy ISD Transportation Department available for parents sometime in August dates once they become available. The changes are the result of the Transportation Department experiencing available to meet daily transportation route requirements. Due to vacant routes and driver absences, there have been days in which the department changes will allow the district to better meet route driver needs and will provide for more effective route management, including driver training and driver support in issues involving student management. “The change in transportation services comes after extensive review of our current transportation operations that not only revealed a heavy burden for drivers covering multiple routes, but also a high amount of uncertainty and risk due to vacant routes and driver absences,” said Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey. “In comparison to other school districts, Katy ISD’s transportation eligibility distances remain among the shortest in the Houston area as many districts require students to live outside of a two mile radius.”

Caring, Connecting, Community. A wise woman once had a dream to change the lives of women for the better. Her hope was so contagious that, one person at a time, her dream spread around the world. Today, nearly 50 years later, millions have been touched by the legacy that Mary Kay Ash left. I’m proud to share in her commitment of caring and connecting in communities just like ours - to help make a difference.
