REMEMBERING ALLEN OHNHEISER
Green Trails recently lost a valued volunteer and neighbor with the passing of Mr. Allen Ohnheiser. Allen served on the Landscape Committee for many years and was also a monitor for the Parks Committee. We will miss his dedication and commitment to maintaining the quality of life in our neighborhood.

ACCESS CARDS New residents needing tennis/pool access cards can contact Crest Management at 281-579-0761. Access cards are for residents only. Card access is the only way to insure our courts are only being used and cared for by our residents and their guests, please do not open the gates for anyone not having a card. Do not loan out your card. COURT RESERVATIONS To reserve court time, the sign-up bulletin board is located inside the tennis courts. Residents may sign up no sooner than 48 hours in advance for a 1 1/2 hour time period by writing their last name on 3 blocks of the sign up sheet. (Each block represents 30 minutes.) This is to allow maximum court usage for all residents during prime times (mornings and evenings). Should you sign up prior to 48 hours in advance or for longer
than 1 1/2 hours, your name will be subject to removal by a committee member. (Of course, you can walk on and play as long as you like if the courts are not previously reserved or in demand.) TENNIS LESSONS/COACHING Please book tennis lessons by signing up for a court 48 hrs. in advance during non-prime hours. (No evening or morning lessons, please.) If you or your child can only take lessons during prime time, please sign up for the single court at Park Cypress to prevent injury and frustration to our neighbors playing a match. It the lesson is to be a regularly set day and time, please contact the tennis committee for approval and court time can be blocked off for you at the Park Cypress Court. Anyone, including tennis pros, wanting to reserve REGULAR court time in advance for lessons or leagues, must contact the tennis committee for approval through Elaine Kearney at 281-492-6848. LEAGUE TENNIS Ladies HLTA and WHLTA tennis leagues are approved to play on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Fall and Spring from 9 AM-12 Noon. Currently, there are A level teams playing on each day. If you are interested in playing ladies league tennis, contact Valerie Henry or Elaine Kearney, numbers below. Contact is necessary by November/December for play in the Spring which resumes in January. VANDALISM Tweens and teens have been observed damaging our tennis courts and the equipment held within. An alert Green Trails resident recently foiled a car theft by calling the Constable when something didn’t seem right. The suspects were arrested. Remember, “No call is too small.”

HOW DO WE LOOK?
Curb appeal has a big impact on your property value, even if your home is not for sale. Buyers evaluate the neighborhood, not just one house. Stand back from your house and take a close look to see if it needs a mini-makeover. Think about security as well. Has your shrubbery become overgrown, covering windows or blocking the sidewalk? Do low-hanging limbs obscure the front? Does the lawn have brown areas or weeds? Is the siding mildewed or paint peeling? You may want to ask a friend’s opinion; it is easy to overlook things we see everyday. Make plans now to spruce up. Cars parked in the street are also a turn-off to buyers. Make the extra effort to keep cars in the driveway. It looks better, and is safer for your neighbors and your car.

We have received complaints about dogs running loose. Harris County requires both dogs and cats to be vaccinated, licensed and kept in fenced yards or on leashes. This is for the safety of both our neighbors and your pets. Remember, that if you leave food outside for a dog or cat, you may be attracting other nuisance animals, including rats. If your dog tends to bark, please do not leave it outside. When walking your pets, PLEASE PICK UP AFTER THEM!

The group recently recorded a Christmas themed CD, which will be available for purchase at all concerts this season. The Band is based in west Houston, with rehearsals and concerts held at CrossPoint Community Church off of Westgreen Blvd. and I-10 (The Katy Freeway). Five concerts are slated for the Lone Star Symphonic Band’s 21st Season, with tickets for all concerts available on the Band’s website, www.lssband.org, for $5.50 each and will be available the day of the concert at the door for $10 each. All concerts begin at 4:00 PM and feature the Lone Star Dixieland Band for 30 minutes prior to the main performance in the foyer. All selections performed will feature life’s many colors. December 15, 2013 will be the Lone Star Symphonic Band’s Christmas and Hanukkah themed concert, titled “Celebrate the Season.” On March 2, 2014, the Band will perform “Lone Star,” a concert as big as Texas! The Lone Star Symphonic Band will perform on May 4, 2014, a spring-filled concert titled “Spring into Fun!” The annual patriotic concert, titled “We Hold These Truths,” will be held on June 29, 2014. The Lone Star Symphonic Band is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to bringing performances of artistic merit to the Houston metropolitan area. This is an interactive program for children, ages 0 to 18 months and their caregivers. Each session will last about 20 minutes, featuring nursery rhymes, songs and finger plays. • TOTALLY TODDLER STORYTIME - Toddlers, ages 18 to 36 months, are invited to participate in our Totally Toddler Storytime, which will be held on Tuesdays, at 10:15 AM and 11:15 AM and Wednesdays, at 10:15 AM. This program is designed with “little wrigglersâ€? in mind. Together the children and their caregivers participate in songs, games, fingerplays and hear some good stories. There will be only one Toddler Time at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 31st. Tickets are required for Toddler Storytime. Tickets are given to the first 30 toddlers the day of the event. • AFTERNOON ART- Glue, paper, scissors, markers, fun and more! Come to the library and let imaginations soar. Become an essential part of a student’s life by signing up to be a tutor for the Literacy Council! The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County holds tutor training every other month. After 12 hours of training, outstanding volunteers are equipped to teach Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to adults. The trainings prepare tutors to organize and compile lesson plans, learn about various tutoring techniques, understand the purpose of the Literacy Council and much more. Tutors do not need knowledge of any foreign language, nor do they need formal teaching experience. We offer many locations for tutoring throughout the area, including locations in Katy. Tutoring sessions are offered during the day and at night. FOSTER CHILDREN: PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING (PAL)
When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent. That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month. Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by local businesses.
