READY FOR HURRICANE SEASON?
Storms can develop quickly. Some advance preparation will eliminate a last minute scramble. Keep: • Homeowners and flood insurance current • Emergency supplies stockpiled • Trees pruned • Loose objects in yard picked up Our website www.greentrailstwo.com contains links to helpful emergency preparation information.
MOSQUITO CONTROL
Green Trails II has a mosquito control contract with Excalibur Mosquito Control, but you can help, too. The best mosquito control program includes removal of breeding sites. Check your yards and correct these problem areas: 1. Bowl planters, pots, water dishes and birdbaths, which can hold dampness or water. 2. Stopped up gutters or standing water in gutters. 3. Remove moisture holding pine needles from roof valleys and piles around house. 4. Don’t over water your yard. If water stands for more than 20 minutes after watering, you are over watering. 5. Monitor standing water under decks and around pools or spas. Spray under deck with garden-variety insecticide regularly or install a drain. Plastic under decks holds water, so try to eliminate it.
WHAT MAKES GREEN TRAILS TICK?
If you’ve ever attended one of our annual meetings, you may have heard that our Green Trails II HOA provides many of the services a small city might. We pay for street lights, a Constable Patrol contract, trash collection, recycling. We operate six parks with pavilions, two pools, a splash pad and two tennis facilities. Plus, we maintain over a million square feet of common areas. We plant trees, shrubs and annual color. In the past ten years, we have installed or partnered in the installation of between 1 and 2 miles of sidewalks. Equally important, we also strive to build community. Several times a year, we hold family events such as Snow Day, the Egg Hunt, Fourth of July Parade/Party and Fall Festival. We support our swim team, tennis leagues and adult volleyball league. These activities provide opportunities for all ages to meet, mingle and have fun. All of these functions and activities share one characteristic: They only happen because residents volunteer. We can’t do it without you. Please consider volunteering for a committee. It is a great way to meet involved, dedicated neighbors and give back to your community. Become part of what makes Green Trails II a great place

ACCESS CARDS New residents needing tennis/pool access cards can contact Crest Management at 281-579-0761. Access cards are for residents only. Card access is the only way to insure our courts are only being used and cared for by our residents and their guests, please do not open the gates for anyone not having a card. Do not loan out your card. COURT RESERVATIONS To reserve court time, the sign-up bulletin board is located inside the tennis courts. Residents may sign up no sooner than 48 hours in advance for a 1 1/2 hour time period by writing their last name on 3 blocks of the sign up sheet. (Each block represents 30 minutes.) This is to allow maximum court usage for all residents during prime times (mornings and evenings). Should you sign up prior to 48 hours in advance or for longer than 1 1/2 hours, your name will be subject to removal by a committee member. (Of course, you can walk on and play as long as you like if the courts are not previously reserved or in demand.) TENNIS LESSONS/COACHING Please book tennis lessons by signing up for a court 48 hrs. in advance during non-prime hours. (No evening or morning lessons, please.) If you or your child can only take lessons during prime time, please sign up for the single court at Park Cypress to prevent injury and frustration to our neighbors playing a match. It the lesson is to be a regularly set day and time, please contact the tennis committee for approval and court time can be blocked off for you at the Park Cypress Court. Anyone, including tennis pros, wanting to reserve REGULAR court time in advance for lessons or leagues, must contact the tennis committee for approval through Elaine Kearney at 281-492-6848.

NEW GARDENS AT DESERT IVY PARK
REMINDER FOR GATED SECTIONS
Volunteers, with the help of Cannon Landscaping, have created two new gardens at Desert Ivy Park. Butterfly host plants and plants that attract hummingbirds have been planted. Butterflies lay their eggs on specific plants, which will provide food for the caterpillars, which in turn spin chrysalis and hatch into new butterflies. Watch for the butterflies and their caterpillars. Encourage your children to observe this phenomenal process of nature. Hummingbirds are attracted to specific flowers for the nectar that nourishes them. A sensory garden of herbs and flowers has been added. Take a moment to rub a leaf and smell the aroma and observe the variation in scent, shape and color. COME, SEE AND ENJOY!
Please remember that entry codes are for the use of residents ONLY. Please ask guests and / or contractors to utilize the gate directory to obtain access. If contact information in the directory needs to be updated, please contact Crest Management and provide information.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY?
Remember to apply and get ARC approval before doing work that affects the exterior appearance of your house or yard. This includes replacing fences, repainting (even the same color) and re-roofing. Approval can take up to one month, so plan ahead. For details, see the website, www.greentrailstwo.com or call Crest Management at 281-579-0761.
Call the Constable and report any suspicious activity. The fastest dispatch for law enforcement in our neighborhood is to call the Constable direct at 281-463-6666. An alert Green Trails resident recently foiled a car theft by calling the Constable when something didn’t seem right. The suspects were arrested. Remember, “No call is too small.”
PAVILION RELEASE FORM
To reserve a park pavilion, please contact Mark Holbrook (Parks Chair) at mholbrook3@comcast.net and fill out the release form and fax it to Crest at 281-579-7062.
HOME IMPROVEMENT REMINDER
Remember, ALL exterior changes made to your home or yard [including your fence] require ARC approval first. In need of an ARC form? Go to www. greentrailstwo.com our neighborhood website.

WEBSITE
The Website for Green Trails Phase II (www.greentrailstwo.com) has a “blast email” function. This feature allows the Association to send news to residents on a mass basis. The Board of Directors intends to start utilizing this function more frequently to disseminate important information, particularly in emergencies like Hurricane Ike. If you have not registered and would like to do so, please go to the “Join Our Mailing List” section of the Website. The only information that you need to enter is your email address. Each of the other items is optional, including your name. None of the information will be distributed to third parties.

STREET LIGHT OUTAGES
Please note that the association pays electrical charges for a streetlight whether the bulb is functioning or not. To report street light outages you can contact CenterPoint Energy at 713-207-2222 or www.centerpointenergy. com. Be sure to note the pole number and the street address.
Curb appeal has a big impact on your property value, even if your home is not for sale. Buyers evaluate the neighborhood, not just one house. Stand back from your house and take a close look to see if it needs a mini-makeover. Think about security as well. Has your shrubbery become overgrown, covering windows or blocking the sidewalk? Do low-hanging limbs obscure the front? Does the lawn have brown areas or weeds? Is the siding mildewed or paint peeling? You may want to ask a friend’s opinion; it is easy to overlook things we see everyday. Make plans now to spruce up. Cars parked in the street are also a turn-off to buyers. Make the extra effort to keep cars in the driveway. It looks better, and is safer for your neighbors and your car.

Most of our dog owners are responsible, using a leash and picking up after your pets. We thank you! HOWEVER - We have received reports of dog owners allowing their dogs to defecate and urinate in yards. This is especially a problem in high-traffic areas near park entrances. Be aware that it is not just your dog. Once a yard has been “used,” other dogs want to do so as well. A resident should not have to pick up after even one dog, much less ten. In addition, runners and walkers in our parks don’t enjoy dodging excrement. Please carry a bag and pick up after your pet. Remember also, that even the sweetest dog may seem intimidating to some people. Respect their rights and comply with leash laws.

GARDEN TIPS FOR JULY
• Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out. • In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and insect treatments. Water 2” once per week. • Remove spent crepe myrtle flowers to prolong bloom production.

• Weeds rob plants of valuable water, nutrients--remove them. • Great sun/heat-lovers include coral honeysuckle, coreopsis, lantana, oleanders and hamelia. • Fertilize flowers lightly, if at all; too hot for heavy feedings. • Water your lawn longer but less frequent. Deep water of about 2 - 3” per week forces plant roots to grow down, instead of sideways into sunbaked upper soil levels. Use a bowl in your yard to measure during waterings.

abandon! This story of mortal and immortal paramours set in a mythical forest is one that will cast a spell on lovers of all ages. • 1776 - Closing this exciting season, July 24th - August 16th, is the American musical, 1776. With revolutionary immediacy, our lofty founding fathers are found to be genuine people who debate, bargain and fray one another’s nerves as they struggle on the tortuous road to independence. This musical witness to the creation of one of the most eloquent documents in history will stir the soul of every American. All performances are on the HFAC Garza Mainstage, recently named “Houston’s Best Gem of a Theatre” by the Houston Press, except for Peter Pan, which will be performed at the Berry Center.
