LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Neighbors, MUD District 105 is now contracting with the Sherriff’s Department to patrol our community. This change was made as an effort to see improved coverage in the four neighborhoods that are serviced by the MUD District. There are no changes for us regarding emergency calls, continue to use 911 to report all incidents. Please don’t hesitate to call if you see something out of the ordinary. We pay for the service and we need to make sure they know where the issues are occurring. On that note, the Board has recently been approached by a few members in the community about starting a neighborhood watch committee. Neighborhood watches in cooperation with good policing are extremely effective tools in combating neighborhood crime. In order to be effective, we need volunteers. If this is something that would interest you, please contact Micky at Spectrum Management so she can help coordinate getting the volunteers to set up a meeting with the Sherriff’s Department and get you the information you need. The Board is also here to help provide additional support and guidance. Always remember, the neighborhood watch is not about confrontation, it is being an extra set of eyes and ears for our community and law enforcement. Please, remember there is no parking in the private alleys, on the private vehicular pathways, around the lake or on the grass anywhere in the community. Please watch your speed, we have had several incidents of property damage in the neighborhood in the last few months due to people not controlling their speed. Thank you again for everything you do to make our community a better place to live. Remember to keep updated on the community at www.lakevillekaty.com. Kevin Williams, Lakeville Community Association, President

The chart is a summary of the various features of the official Lakeville website. The summary is for all residents to review in order to help them become familiar with the website and especially for those residents new to Lakeville, not registered to the website or unaware there is an official Lakeville website. The site was designed to be a repository of information. It is not designed to have interactive exchange between users, which can lead to confrontation. There are mechanisms in place to allow a resident to contact the Board, any committees, the management company or vendors. This way a resident can ask for help with the website, communicate ideas, suggestions, concerns or problems confidentially to the appropriate contacts. The resident’s email address or information is not shared or displayed on the site unless the resident decides to do so. We do recommend the name and address be shown in the Directory so residents will become

DEED RESTRICTIONS REMINDERS

Garage Sales: Did you know? Two garage sales a year is the limit under Texas Law. The Limited Sales, Excise and Use Tax Act says that people who are not operating a business are permitted to have no more than two sales of their goods each year. If you exceed this amount, you will be treated as operating a business and you’ll need to obtain a sales tax permit from the state. A quick Internet search reveals that a number of Texas cities also have ordinances limiting garage sales and some don’t allow them at all. Houston has no such ordinance, however, according to the city’s website. Instead, the city relies on the state law. Businesses are not allowed in the community. Trash Can Containers: Trash cans and Trash are to be out of site and remain out of view at all times, it takes away from property values. Street Curbs: Curbs are homeowners’ responsibility to keep clean and free of debris, (i.e. leaves and trash). Keeping these clean will ensure less street flooding, trash being forced down and clogging sewer drains. Oil Stains: If you’re having difficulties getting the oil and grease stains out from your driveway, there are a few mixtures you can buy at an auto part store that is less than $10. These mixtures will help get the oil and grease stains in your driveway. Streetlights: HOA Assessments pay for streetlights, please report streetlight outages to: www.centerpointenergy.com/services/ electricity/residential/reportastreetlightoutage, you will need the six digit streetlight pole number and a nearby address when filing out the on line report.

HARRIS COUNTY LEASH LAW

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet. To make a complaint or report an animal that is not properly restrained please contact: Harris County Precinct #5, Contract #87: 281-463-6666 Harris County Animal Control: 281-999-3191 Harris County Health Department, Rabies/Animal Control Section 2223 West Loop South, Houston, Texas 77027-3588 www.countypets.com

You are invited to St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church’s Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 9th from 5:30-7 PM. We will eat pancakes and play bingo! Shrove Tuesday originated during the Middle Ages. Food items like meats, fats, eggs, milk and fish were regarded as restricted during Lent. To keep such food from being wasted, many families would have big feasts on Shrove Tuesday. The English tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday came about as a way to use as much milk, fats and eggs as possible before Ash Wednesday began. In France, the consumption of all fats and fatty foods on this day coined the name “Fat Tuesday” or Mardi Gras. Sharing Our Story Lenten Program - All are invited to St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church’s Lenten program, Sharing Our Story. The program will be offered for four Wednesdays in Lent, beginning February 17th through March 9th from 6:30-7:30 PM. We will hear a testimony from a speaker who will share with us their story. We will conclude with Holy Communion and healing prayers. The Youth (sixth-twelfth grade) will take a look at wilderness and how it relates to their lives and Children (kindergarten-fifth grade) will explore the events of Holy Week. The nursery will be open. Please join us for this impactful, spiritually-based Lenten program.

CORNERSTONE UMC 18081 WEST ROAD, 281-859-4141, CORNERSTONEUMC.ORG

Cornerstone United Methodist Church is located at 18081 West Rd., Houston, 77095. You’ll find us behind CVS and ASI Gymnastics! Questions? Contact Erica Knight at family@cornerstoneumc.org or call the church office at 281-859-4141.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of the Season of Lent occurring forty days (excluding Sundays) before Good Friday. On Wednesday evening, February 10th at 7 PM we will be having an Ash Wednesday worship celebration. This service will include the marking of ashes on each worshippers head followed by a quiet time of reflection at the altar. In addition, as we do each Ash Wednesday service, there will be something “extra” to illustrate God’s forgiveness of our sins. Special music will be provided by the Chancel Choir. This will be a meaningful service and everyone is invited to attend. Movie Night: Cornerstone United Methodist Church is hosting a night of free family fun! Join us on Saturday, February 20th (Snacks and fellowship 5-5:30 PM, movie starts at 5:30 PM) for a showing of Inside Out. Join Joy and the four other emotions running the Headquarters of 11-year-old Riley’s mind, as she strives to make sure Riley stays happy. Cornerstone United Methodist Church has partnered with Fiest Elementary School to provide assistance to disadvantaged students attending this elementary school located. More than 50% of the students attending the school are classified as “below the poverty level.” In order to assure that these students have the school supplies they need, the “Friends of Fiest” at Cornerstone have established a “Cornerstone Closet for Fiest.” This is an ongoing project whereby a stockpile of supplies is maintained so that when students deplete their initial supply and families cannot afford to replenish their needs, teachers can draw from the stockpile in the “Closet” to provide needed items. Currently the most needed items are composition books, pencils, glue sticks and facial tissue. Contributions can be dropped off in the church office or placed in the “Closet for Fiest” bend in the lobby of the worship center. All contributions are welcomed. Dave Ramsey is a personal money management expert. Ramsey knows first-hand what financial peace means in his own life-living a true rags-to-riches, back-to-rags, back-to-riches story. Financial Peace University is a tool that supports churches by equipping them with a biblically-based accountability class that will train the congregation and community to manage their resources. Now Ramsey has come up with a practical tool to help parents teach their children to develop a healthy and responsible understanding of how money works entitled “Smart Money, Smart Kids.” Cornerstone United Methodist Church will offer this six-week course equipping parents to raise money-smart kids on Thursday nights at 7 PM from February 4th through March 10th. The cost is $70 (includes Smart Money and Smart Kids, workbook, online access to all video content including lessons and resources and “More is caught than taught” vinyl decal) and classes meet for one hour each week at the church.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through February. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.
