Exceptions: Monday, September 7th (Labor Day): 11 AM - 9 PM To gain access to the pool you will need to have your access card from last year and a zero balance on your account. If you have any balance or if you are delinquent with your assessment, your access card will be deactivated. You are encouraged to view your account online at www. Preferredmgt.com/bearcreek. Requests for activating new or deactivated cards will be handled through the mail only and began April 14, 2015. Activations are done on Tuesdays and Fridays only. Landlords will be responsible for requesting and delivering the pool cards to tenants. There will be gate guards at the pool checking everyone’s pool cards against the number of guests, to see if the account has a balance and the name the card is registered to. It is very important to the success of the community that each homeowner pays their account to a zero balance. You may check your account online on the Association’s website. These balances also include any deed restriction fees, legal fees and interest on late payments. Please check your account information now to avoid any delays in going to the pool.
BEAR CREEK MEADOWS OWNERS - FENCE INFORMATION The perimeter fences around the community belong to the homeowners. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain, repair and replace the fence as needed. Perimeter fencing must be put back to its original installation style and may not vary to other styles. Fencing that is shared with neighbors should also be maintained, repaired and replaced as needed. Neighbors should communicate with each other and share in the cost of replacement. Any modifications to the fencing around your property (including adding a rot board) must be approved by the Association first. Bear Creek Meadows owners may obtain the nec essary form from the website at www.preferredmgt.com/bearcreekmeadows.

You may obtain a home improvement form from the website at www.preferredmgt.com or by contacting Preferred Management Services, AAMC® at 281-897-8808. This includes storage sheds and room additions. Avoid potential costly legal fees by applying prior to doing the work and obtaining approval. 2. DEED RESTRICTIONS REMINDERS Garage Sales: Villages of Bear Creek will have two Garage Sales each year. One will be held in April and October, second Saturday, if it rains, it will be held the next Saturday, 8 AM-1 PM. This will be posted on message board and will post a sign. This is to take the place of all other garage sales and adhere to the law, if having more than two would be considered running a business and littering our corners with signs that never get taken down and from other neighborhoods. When you take your pet for a walk, come prepared with a scooper and a recycled grocery bag or anything else. If your pet poops during your walk, please scoop and trash. Street Curbs: Curbs are homeowners’ responsibility to keep clean and free of debris, (i.e. leaves and trash). These mixtures will help get the oil and grease stains in your driveway. GARDEN TIPS FOR AUGUST • Time now to make plans for fall landscaping projects. • Clean up flowerbeds of fallen foliage, yellowed leaves and dead wood. Light green leaves may signify lack of iron (chlorosis). Correct with iron cheleates. • Cut off old dead foliage on irises. Scratch in a little bone meal around the roots. • Prune roses to reshape and groom plants for fall growth. • Wait until November to plant petunias and pansies. • Chinch bug damage is obvious now. You will have areas of thin and/or dead turf where they weren’t brought under control. There is a new generation going now. This batch causes the most damage. Use Dursban to stop the damage. • Until the weather gets back to the 80’s, St. Augustine grass grows slowly. If you fill in with sod, don’t expect a fast turnaround. The sod may look like it’s not growing while it puts down roots. You will need to water the new sod often and deeply to get it started but this also creates a disease environment. Water early so the sun can dry the turf. • Now is a good time to work new beds. Till them up, add organic material, mix it in, then let them cure for a month or so. Add in any amendments like micro-nutrients. Keep the beds moist so the microorganisms have a favorable environment.

GREEN TIPS Reasons to lose your styrofoam habit - Many of us use styrofoam cups at work or when we get fast food: they’re just so convenient. But if you use one styrofoam cup a day, you’re adding 23 pounds of waste to the landfill every year (and that’s not counting all of those restaurant to-go boxes). Re-using bread bags - Bread bags are quite handy and can take the place of other products that you might buy, so, even though we probably can’t keep them out of the waste stream forever, they can be used for other purposes that may prevent the use/purchase of another product. Here are some ideas: For packing sandwiches As packing material when shipping goods General storage for small items A replacement for freezer bags Plastic bag crafts (you can use strips to weave rugs or placemats or make “rope”) • A cake icing piping bag • For picking up dog poop (other small bags can be re-used for this purpose too, like snack/chip bags) • Makeshift gloves for touching unpleasant or corrosive things (snack/chip bags good for this, too) • Seed starters - put soil in the bottom & use them for seedling starters (also snack/chip bags) • Car travel sick bag (also snack/chip bags) • Trash bags for small trashcans or for the car (also snack/chip bags) • Seasoning bag; add seasoning and meat and shake. Be sure to shake the crumbs out of the bag before storing for reuse!

Ogwumike started out playing basketball at Cy-Fair High School, going on to win two state championships before earning a scholarship to Stanford University after turning down Connecticut and Notre Dame. “It’s always fun coming home because I remember being in their shoes,” Ogwumike said. After the brief talk to the girls at the presentation, Ogwumike attempted to inspire the student athletes to try their hardest. “The speech really was a great inspiration to me,” said student Iliana Lora.

This year’s Sales Tax Holiday is Aug. 7th - 9th. As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend. Subject to the criteria explained on the website (http://comptroller.texas.gov/taxinfo/taxpubs/taxholiday/d/), all sales of qualifying items made during the holiday period qualify for the exemption, including items sold online or by telephone or mail. For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.
Cy-Fair Area Boy Scouts of America leaders will make a push to recruit area boys for membership, with multiple dates and venues available for parents with questions. The Boy Scouts will have a booth at the Cy-Fair ISD Back To School Expo, which is 9 AM to 1 PM, Saturday, August 16th, at the Berry Center, 8877 Barker Cypress. Scout leaders there can direct prospects to the proper units, based on age and geography. The Soaring Eagle District of the BSA will host rally nights at respective elementary schools for Cub Scouts, which is boys in first through sixth grades. Rally nights are Tuesday, September 1st and Monday, September 21 st, at area elementary schools. Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre Company has been selected for an NEA Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for our upcoming production of the Houston Premiere of The Drowning Girls by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson, Daniela Vlaskalic. In addition, the company has received a Brown Foundation Discretionary Fund Grant for operations in our upcoming season. These grants are highly competitive and we are proud to have been among the recipients. The Drowning Girls, a modern interpretation and poetic retelling of the “Brides in the Bath” slayings in 20th century England. The work also examines the lengthy history of misogyny and domestic abuse in modern civilization. Originally produced in Canada for the Edmonton Fringe Festival, the work will debut in Houston on July 16, 2015 and will run for 12 performances through August 1, 2015. In line with MU’s mission to promote and support the work of women, the play, written by three female playwrights, illustrates how far women have come in the fight for equality in the past 100 years.
