AMERICAN HEART AWARENESS MONTH

Heart disease kills an estimated 630,000 Americans each year. It’s the leading cause of death for both men and women. In the United States, the most common type of heart disease is coronary artery disease (CAD), which can lead to a heart attack. You can greatly reduce your risk for CAD through lifestyle changes and in some cases, medication. Since 1963, February has been celebrated as American Heart Month to urge Americans to join the battle against heart disease. Since 2004, February also has been the signature month for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign and the message that heart disease is not only a man’s problem.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ART CONTEST!

Don’t mess with Texas® and Keep Texas Beautiful invite you to set aside time for their Elementary School Art Contest. Did you know that Texans ages 16 to 34 are the most likely to litter? We need to do all we can to motivate young Texans to keep our environment free of trash. This contest is a great way to share the Don’t mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful litter prevention messages with your elementary school students so that they learn good habits from an early age. Get creative! Inspired by their creativity and desire to protect our environment, elementary school students from across Texas can submit their best litter prevention design to be considered for the 2016 Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. Entries will be judged based on creativity/ uniqueness, inclusion of a litter prevention message and interpretation of theme, overall visual appeal, composition and age appropriateness. Students win prizes and have their art featured. Students who create the top 13 winning designs will have their artwork assigned to a month or featured on the cover of the 2016 Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. Each will also win an iDeaUSA 8 tablet donated by H-E-B and Central Market. All student winners and their artwork will be showcased on the Don’t mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful websites and social media sites, at the 2016 Keep Texas Beautiful annual conference, in media announcements and through other means as appropriate. Teachers win, too! Teachers representing students who produce the top 13 designs will each win a $100 H-E-B and Central Market gift card. See Official Contest Rules for more information.

CHINESE NEW YEAR FEBRUARY 8TH!

An estimated 1.4 billion people around the world will be celebrating the New Year on February 8, 2016. Chinese New Year, also known as the L unar New Year, starts on the night of the second new moon of the winter solstice and ends 15 days later on the night of the full moon. During Chinese New Year, families gather to enjoy delicious foods and to wish each other good luck in the year ahead. Children are often given red envelopes filled with coins, though the money inside is not as important as the color and symbol found on the envelopes, which signifies happiness and good blessings. Each year, the New Year celebration is associated with an astrological animal. 2016 is the year of the Red Monkey, also known as the Fire Monkey. People born in the year of the Monkey are said to be wise, intelligent, confident, charismatic, loyal, inventive and have leadership, according to Your Chinese Astrology. “I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through February. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

START THE NEW YEAR WITH A NEW BEST FRIEND AND FAMILY MEMBER!

L oving Arms Pet Placement has an assortment of wonderful dogs and cats hoping for their forever homes. We have all different types of small to large dogs, mixed breeds and many wonderful cats to choose from. We are a foster-based rescue for dogs and cats. If you are not ready to commit to adopting a dog or cat permanently, the animals also need foster families. Besides providing food, water and a safe place to sleep, foster families socialize the animals so they are people friendly. Include the animal in your daily home life inside your home. Get to know them as individuals so you can share personality traits, likes/dislikes, anecdotes. Treat the animal like your own and train him/her, if possible. Although you may feel sadness when your foster animal is adopted, please know that your efforts helped to prepare the cat or dog for his/her forever home. V isit L oving Arms Pet Placement website at www.lovingarmspetplacement.com or visit us at Petsmart on Highway 6 and FM 5 29 each Saturday from 11 AM until 5 PM.
