February 2016 THANK YOU
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY - 24/7, 365
3. Be generous and loving in all your dealings with your partner. Give unconditionally, rather than wanting something back in return. Instead, commit 100% to doing things for your partner and with zero expectation. 4. Always have integrity. Commit to tell your partner the total truth, as honesty is one of the key things people want in a relationship. Knowing they can trust you builds a zone of safety and comfort around them. 5. Resolve your differences as soon as they happen. Conflict actually fuels a genuinely passionate partnership. So accept responsibility for your part of the issue at stake and do not blame your partner. 6. Do not criticize. It is ok to complain but not criticize. Your partner is doing the best they can – support them in becoming an even better person. NEVER put your partner down in front of other people. 7. Create a haven for your partner. Make them feel so safe and secure with you that they drop all their defensiveness. Be considerate of your partner’s feelings and treat them with the utmost care and kindness. 8. Let go of the past. All relationships have their difficulties. Remember only the lessons learnt and forget the details. Weather the stormy moments and savor the memory of sunny days. 9. Have a fun date with your partner regularly and often. Give the relationship the same commitment you made when you first met - simply put each other first! - Courtesy: lifehack.org
1. Create & share a vision of your dream life together. Make the fulfillment of your short term and long term needs the criteria for choosing a partner and being in a relationship. 2. Accept your partner just as they are. Your partner is a special person - the only one in the world like them, with their own wonderful traits and unique gifts. They are entitled to their own decisions, hobbies, goals and hopes.
Do you want or even need a change but don’t know where to begin? Are you interested in friendships that will help you achieve success? Look no further, Booty Bandits is a FREE fitness and wellness group that will help in those areas. I host monthly challenges, which will inspire success as well as provide daily support along with a group of like minded people! We will meet once a month for a group exercise session at a local park and the rest will be online support! If you are interested or have any questions, email me at bootybanditbabe@yahoo.com or call/text 713-454-3421.
Lone Oak would love to thank 2 more local businesses that participated in the 1st Annual Lone Oak Fall Festival: Woodforest Bank and PDQ. Having the community and local businesses participate together made the event so much better!
AMERICAN HEART AWARENESS MONTH
Heart disease kills an estimated 630,000 Americans each year. It’s the leading cause of death for both men and women. In the United States, the most common type of heart disease is coronary artery disease (CAD), which can lead to a heart attack. You can greatly reduce your risk for CAD through lifestyle changes and in some cases, medication. Since 1963, February has been celebrated as American Heart Month to urge Americans to join the battle against heart disease. Since 2004, February also has been the signature month for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign and the message that heart disease is not only a man’s problem.
Valentine’s Day is just one day on February 14th. Why not make it Valentine’s Day each and every day by making those you love feel extra special, including yourself. Here’s how:

TRASH PICK-UP DAYS
Wednesdays and Saturdays are the Lone Oak scheduled trash pick-up days. Please do not set your garbage out early. We continue to see many residents put trash out 2-3 days before trash day. Please keep your garbage out of sight until the night before or the day of the scheduled pick up. Also, please be courteous and do not block the sidewalks with your bags and or trash bins and remove them in a timely manner after pick up.
HIT THE BRAKES…
Speeding in Lone Oak has been a hot topic of discussion lately. There have been numerous reports of speeding and of running stop signs. We have notified the Sheriff of these reports and have asked that tickets be issued to offenders. Several surrounding schools and residents have purchased kid alert safety signs to be placed in front of their homes and or buildings to remind people to slow down. If you would like to purchase a safety sign, here are a couple websites that sell the signs, www.kaplantoys.com and www. discountschoolsupply.com

LONE OAK CRIME WATCH NEEDS YOUR HELP
Lone Oak’s Crime Watch Chairperson would like to encourage more residents to become involved in the Lone Oak Crime Watch Program. More Block Captains are needed! Each Block Captain is responsible for contacting the residents who are assigned to them when there is information to pass along regarding incidents in Lone Oak or surrounding areas. Most Block Captains set up their distribution list via email, so it is important for residents to know who their Block Captain is. The time required is minimal - attend a few periodic meetings, distribute information, be aware of happenings in your neighborhood and host a National Night Out Party once a year! If you would like to volunteer or would just like more information, please contact your Board.

CCS SENIOR PRESENTS ROTARY LOMBARDI AWARD CCS varsity football kicker Landen Nealy was chosen to announce the winner of the 46th Rotary Lombardi Award, given to the nation’s best collegiate offensive/defensive lineman or linebacker. Nealy was selected to present the prestigious award because of his efforts to honor a former CCS football teammate, Vincent Salario, by raising funds for cancer research. CCS head football coach Jacob Spenn said, “We tell our players that being part of a team is being part of something bigger than ourselves.” The CCS football program focuses on building godly men who will impact their culture for Christ. Coach Spenn and the CCS football players in attendance were recognized as Nealy and Vincent’s parents, Gregory and Lei Ann Salario, were brought on stage. The Rotary Lombardi Award was presented to Carl Nassib of Penn State.

BERRY CENTER TO HOST UIL WRESTLING STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2016 University Interscholastic League Wrestling State Championships will take place at Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District’s Berry Center. After receiving feedback from stakeholders in the wrestling community, the UIL made the decision to change venues to better accommodate the growing sport. A second conference was added to boys and girls wrestling competition in 2013, doubling the number of qualifiers and matches. The 2013 Wrestling State Championships were expanded to three days and two locations. This marks the first time the UIL Wrestling State Championships will be held in the Houston area. Scouts BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high selfesteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?
We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through February. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

The English tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday came about as a way to use as much milk, fats and eggs as possible before Ash Wednesday began. In France, the consumption of all fats and fatty foods on this day coined the name “Fat Tuesday” or Mardi Gras. Currently the most needed items are composition books, pencils, glue sticks and facial tissue. Contributions can be dropped off in the church office or placed in the “Closet for Fiest” bend in the lobby of the worship center. All contributions are welcomed. WWII AIRCRAFT FLY-IN AND OPEN HOUSE
Saturday and Sunday, April 16th & 17th, 10 AM to 5 PM, those big, old airplanes with the mighty round engines will be flying again as the Commemorative Air Force’s Houston Wing presents its 2016 Open House at Hangar B-5, West Houston Airport. Bring the family and get up close and feel the prop wash and hear the noise as radial engines power these WWII aircraft. See some of the old planes your father, grandfather or grandmother learned to fly for World War II. We expect to have 15 - 20 historic aircraft on display along with several WWII military vehicles. Admission is $10 per car. The West Houston Airport is located at 18000 Groschke Rd., 2 miles north of 1-10 and between Hwy. 6 and Barker Cypress. Warbird rides may be available. Check our website www.houstonwing.org for ride prices.
