SENIORS CARDS AND COFFEE WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH, 9:30 AM - 11 AM

Several people suggested that they would like to have a time for seniors to get together in the clubhouse. In November and December, we had 7 or 8 of our neighbors attend, including two new couples. We have scheduled another get-together for Wednesday, February 17th and we hope that more of our seniors will attend. We have cards and other games that we will set out if anyone is interested in getting a game going or you are welcome to bring your favorite. Those who have attended seem to enjoy just getting to know each other. If the group stays consistent, we have lots of ideas such as potluck luncheons.

PLAYGROUPS

Memorial Parkway moms have recently started a playgroup. Our goal is for our children to build friendships, for each other and to build friendships and build our sense of community in Memorial Parkway. We will have play dates in homes, meet ups at our playground and local parks, outings around Katy and Girl’s Night Out events. Search ‘Memorial Parkway Playgroup’ on Facebook. Contact Allison Nordby at AllisonNordby@gmail.com, 713-922-1291 or Colleen Pubchara at thepubfam@gmail.com, 713-505-4451 for more information.

MPCA ID INFORMATION

Every resident must have a MPCA I.D. CARD to use the pools, clubhouse and tennis courts. If you’re a new resident or have never had a card, complete the I.D. Registration form which can be found at mphoa.org under forms and documents and turn it into the office and wait at least 3 days before coming to get your picture taken for the ID card. We will begin taking pictures in April. If you already have a card and the information is current, all you have to do is turn the card in to the office for a 2016 sticker.

HOW TO REPORT BACKYARD NUISANCE

If you have a neighbor with a terrible backyard such as garbage dumping, unsanitary conditions, unsecured private swimming pools, etc., you can go to Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services’ Website to file a complaint, www.hcphes.org/eph/ complaints.

NEED CURB REPAIR??

Do you have a broken curb in front of your home... Did you know that Harris County Precinct 3 will come and fix it? It is as easy as going to their website and filling out the service request form. They will come and fix it for free (well, that is your tax dollars at work)! They will not fix the curved part that attaches to your driveway, that is the homeowner’s responsibility. You can go to www.harriscountytx.gov/ servicerequestform/default.aspx?pct3 and fill out the service request form if you have a broken curb that needs repaired.

QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? SUGGESTIONS?

We welcome communication from homeowners and residents. The MPCA Board of Directors are your neighbors and are available to answer questions. We love having comments and suggestion from everyone as we strive to make Memorial Parkway a great place to live. Please contact us at anytime through the website.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE

The dumpster at the rear of our parking lot on Cimarron Parkway is not for use by residents who want to get rid of their garbage or debris. This dumpster is for Association use only. We have a security camera on the premises, so if you’re guilty of throwing your trash in our dumpster, we probably have you on video tape.

If any section of your sidewalk is uneven, which may cause someone to trip and hurt themselves, you are responsible for repairing or replacing that section of the sidewalk and liable for any injuries incurred. In some cases, a sunken section of a sidewalk may be caused by a water or sewer line leak. If you’re in doubt, you can call Precinct 3 at 281-4636300 and request that someone come to your home and check it out.

.a vehicle cannot park closer than 15 feet to a fire hydrant. .a vehicle cannot park closer than 20 feet to an intersection. .a vehicle cannot park closer than 30 feet to a stop sign. The Board has asked our Constables to take the appropriate action whenever there is a violation of the Transportation Code. The parking of vehicles on the street has become a big problem in our neighborhood. School buses can’t pull close to the curb to pick up and let off students. In some cases, emergency vehicles may not be able to reach their destination if traffic flow is inhibited, especially when two cars are parked directly across from each other. Plus, vehicles parked on the street are those that are vandalized the most. Some of the worst areas are the cul-de-sacs where it’s hard enough to back out of a driveway or navigate the circle even when there aren’t any vehicles parked on the street. Be considerate of your neighbors and don’t park your vehicle in front of their house or block their mailbox. Also, think of the neighbor across the street and park so that you’re not making it difficult for them to back out of their own driveway.

We ask that you keep the street area in front of your home clean, so that leaves, pine needles, grass clippings and dirt won’t accumulate in the gutters next to the curb and end up being washed into the drains causing them to back up and flood the streets. If you see someone putting grass clippings, oil or other debris down the drains, please contact the MUD District and the County at 281-463-6300. This includes lawn contractors that are blowing the leaves into the street instead of bagging them. Some of our residents feel that this was a waste of our time and are upset that we had written to them stating that they were getting this waste from a neighbor up the street. On the other hand, most of our residents understood that backed-up drains would cause flooding on some of our streets and cleaned up their yards and streets regardless of where the debris came from. We ask that you do the same. THANK YOU!

GARAGE SALES

MPCA would like to suggest that garage sales be conducted the first Friday and Saturday of each month. This will eliminate the many signs that are out each week and also makes for a stronger turn out. Most area communities only allow sales twice a year. Memorial Parkway could be known for its “Once a Month” garage sales. Do not attach your garage sale signs to the STOP signs, as it is against the law and the County can issue citations for this. If a sign is on a public right of way, like the esplanades), they may be subject to fines of $500-$1,000 per occurrence per day. We also ask that you do not post your signs on the property of another resident. When your sale is over, please go back and pick up all of your signs.

If you see one of our inspectors stopped in front of your home, please do not approach their vehicle to confront them. Their vehicles are identified with a MPCA sign on the car door that says deed restriction inspector. Some of our inspectors have been threatened, verbally abused and some have been followed. If they see you approach their vehicle, they have every right to drive off without talking to you. If you still have questions, call the office. If you get a notice of violation and you feel it was sent to you in error, please call the office. Our staff will look at the picture taken of the violation and confirm whether the address is correct or not. Our inspectors make every effort to make sure they’ve got the right violation logged to the right address with the right picture to go along with it. But with 2,219 homes to inspect and over 25 miles of streets, they sometimes get it wrong. If that’s the case, we apologize for the mistake and will remove the violation from your record. If you want clarification on a deed restriction, you can read the complete document by going to our webpage. It’s titled “Architectural Control Committee Guidelines.” The inspectors, MPCA Board and office staff are not in the business of harassing our residents, but are only trying to enforce the documents that all homeowners agreed to abide by when they purchased property in Memorial Parkway. The Memorial Parkway Clubhouse located at 21600 Cimarron is available to non-profit adult and youth groups for meetings. The meeting times and days for adult and youth groups are from: 3 PM - 5:15 PM, 5:30 PM - 6:45 PM and 7 PM - 10 PM on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday (some exceptions regarding times on Sunday). If you have noticed a problem in the subdivision you think needs taking care of, please complete the resident comment form and turn it in to the office. The subdivision gets a drive through inspection twice a month. Some problems may not be noticed at that time. It is helpful if residents can inform the office in writing of such problems. Having complaints in writing is helpful, if the association has to take legal steps in enforcing deed restriction violations. Our subdivision was formed 35 years ago and we need to take steps to keep it looking nice so the value of homes will continue to increase.

SCHOOL NEWS KATY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT WWW.KATYISD.ORG KATY ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES 2016-2017 ATTENDANCE BOUNDARY MODIFICATION

The Katy ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve an attendance boundary modification (ABM) designed to address the opening of three new campuses and alleviate overcrowding at campuses landlocked with 125 percent capacity. This ABM will provide muchneeded relief to Rylander and West Memorial elementary schools, as well as, balance enrollment as the District prepares to open two elementary schools and one junior high next school year. During this entire process, the District welcomed feedback from the community through an online survey. Nearly 9,000 parents, staff and community members completed the survey and dozens shared their feedback during the open forum at various Board meetings. These comments helped shape the ABM and addressed major needs and concerns cited by parents and community. The District presented to the Board a preliminary ABM proposal on November 16th and then an updated option on December 7th to better address the overcrowding at West Memorial Elementary.

Handyman Home Repair & Remodel Work • Tile • Flooring • Drywall Repair & Replacement • Siding • Decks

• Patio Covers • Pressure Washing • Fence Repair & Replacement • Bathroom & Kitchen Remodels • Ceiling Fan & Light Fixtures • Doors, Baseboards & Crown Molding

The Board approved the updated ABM option on December 14th. The District estimates that approximately 3,600 students will be impacted by the approved attendance boundary modifications. Katy ISD will be notifying all impacted families in January/February 2016. For more information about the ABM process, including maps of the approved attendance boundary modifications, visit the District’s ABM webpage.

COMMUNITY INVITED TO SUPPORT TEACHER GRANTS

The Katy ISD Education Foundation is inviting parents, businesses and community members to contribute to its teacher grant initiative by becoming a Foundation Investor or making a one-time donation. The Foundation’s annual Inspiring Imagination teacher grant program awards funds to teachers to implement classroom projects that engage and excite Katy ISD students. Formed in 2013 to support creative classroom programs in Katy ISD schools, the Foundation has awarded more than $500,000 to teachers throughout the district, enriching the learning experience for more than 65,000 Katy ISD students. Each spring, teachers are invited to apply for a grant through a competitive, three-step evaluation process. Submissions are judged by community volunteers. This year’s grant application process launched in November with teacher grant applications due March 30, 2016. Grants will be awarded in May 2016 for the 20162017 school year. Foundation Investors pledge annual gifts that range from $1,000 to $50,000 per year. One-time contributions of any amount are also welcome. Additional information about the grant program and how to donate can be found at the Foundation’s website at www. katyisdeducationfoundation.org. Gifts can be made online or by check mailed to Katy ISD Education Foundation, P.O. Box 159, Katy, Texas, 77492-0159. In addition, the Foundation welcomes recurring automated contributions through electronic funds transfer. The Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization and all gifts are tax deductible. Questions can be sent via email to foundation@katyisd.org.

Hall of Fame. Coach Joseph, along with eight other inductees, were announced on Saturday, December 19th at NRG Stadium. Coach Joseph began his coaching career at Luling High School 37 years ago. After advancing in jobs at Brazosport and Austin Westlake, he then moved to Katy High School, where he has served for 33 years. He was the KHS defensive coordinator and then assistant head coach for 22 years before becoming the KHS head coach in 2004. During his tenure as head coach, he has led the Katy Tigers to eight state final games with three of those appearances resulting in 6A State Championships. His current coaching record stands at 16714. While individual and team accolades are greatly appreciated and honored, Coach Joseph also strives to build a strong group of student athletes who recognize, through the actions of their head coach, the necessity for integrity, loyalty and the value of leading oneself and others through life’s victories with humility and hardships with grace. The induction banquet will be held on May 7, 2016 in Waco, Texas.
