The chart above is data for Houston and not Nottingham Country specifically. Months of inventory is one of the best ways to gauge real estate. As doctors conduct physicals to determine if someone is healthy; months of inventory gauges the health of the market. For example months of inventory rose from 2.7 months to 3.4 months in November 2015. This means it would take 3.4 months to sell the entire existing inventory if no other home was listed. Typically when supply is increasing because it is taking longer to sell homes. If there is a large supply of homes the effect it will have on real estate is a drop in price. The higher the supply of homes or months of inventory the greater the leverage for a buyer. With this data you can then understand that if this trend continues; buyers will start to have more leverage.

Nottingham Country

3.4 months of inventory doesn’t help the average reader know the health of the market. It has to be benchmarked or measured from a reference point. Just as a doctor compares your heart rate and blood pressure to normal levels or benchmarks; in real estate it is the same thing. 6 months of inventory is a neutral market. It is neither sellers nor buyers’ market at 6 months of inventory; this is our benchmark. Under 6 months is a sellers’ market and above 6 months of inventory is a buyer’s market. We now know that when the inventory increased from 2.7 months to 3.4 months that it went from a more drastic seller’s market to a less drastic seller’s market. Information is a great tool to use when making decisions. The information given in this graph can help a possible seller get off the fence and decide to sell because they feel they will start to lose their leverage if the inventory continues to increase. With this same information investors could start to ask for more as they go into negotiations on properties. I believe Nottingham Country will remain a strong neighborhood because of its great schools, easy access to I-10 and mature trees that give Nottingham charm. STREET & CURB REPAIR

281-578-7333

Last fall, NCCIA Director Bob Wills and I drove the entire subdivision to map out the streets and curbs that are in need of repair. Harris County is responsible for the street repair along with the curbs. Keep in mind that damaged curbs that are adjacent to homeowner’s driveways are the responsibility of the individual homeowner and NOT Harris County. The same for damaged curbs that result from drain pipes that are cut into the curbs. As one can imagine we sent a number of pages to the County and asked them to begin the process of repairing those streets and curbs, which we found were in the most need of repair. Harris County responded in December and stated they are far behind on doing repairs needed in the County. Not clear of the reason but such as it is! They stated they intend to begin repairs in NC in January 2016.

Obviously there will be some homeowners that will not see curbs repaired that in their view need work. We did the best we could to identify those in the direst need. It took a long time to drive the entire subdivision and we may well have missed a few. No one is perfect. Therefore, bear with us. Let’s allow the County to do their repairs and what is not repaired, we shall take a second look at. Now there are many, many curbs that are damaged at owner’s driveways. Please consider getting these repaired. It is YOUR responsibility and they will only get worse if not repaired. Our driveways are about 40 years old and many are in need of replacement. We all recognize that concrete repair is expensive but at the same time it is one of those items, like a roof, that must be replaced every 25 years so. Certainly broken and buckled driveways do nothing to add to the beauty of our homes and in fact reduce the values significantly. Let’s do our part and repair our driveways and adjacent curbs and hopefully Harris County will get the streets and curbs repaired also. Don Mach NCCIA President Nottingham Country

FORECLOSURES IN NOTTINGHAM COUNTRY The following is the current inventory of foreclosed homes in NC as of 12/21/15: ADDRESS 1514 Hannington 20303 Lake Sherwood

OWNER Foreclosure pending (Nationwide Mortgage) Foreclosure should take place within 30 days (Ocwen Financial)

We are seeing a few more homes in NC being posted for the monthly foreclosure sale. This is true through Harris County and a fact of life with the downturn in the area economy. The good news is that home values have increased in recent years so most homeowners should have some equity in their homes. NCCIA Board of Directors

MESSAGE FROM OUR CONSTABLES Our area’s Constable’s office has made available to any resident of Nottingham Country an engraving tool that can be very helpful. By engraving a number (TX driver’s license number) or an identifying name on all of your valuable items (TV, DVD, computers, etc.) they will much easier to identify if they are ever stolen. To make this even easier, a phone call to the office (281 492-3600) is all that is necessary to have one delivered to your home. Please take advantage of this great opportunity to protect your valuable assets. Horace Davies, NCCIA Security Director

NCCIA WEBSITE REPORT If you are a resident of Nottingham Country and haven’t been to our site, please do so by going to: www.nottinghamcounty.org and sign-up to become a member. As you may or may not know, we allow all our surrounding neighbors to sign-up for Lost Pet Notices, & Safety and Security Alerts that effect us all. Notices of important events and security issues are sent out via our E-Blast network. If you are already a member, thanks for being an active member to our community. It’s worth repeating: If there’s something you can’t find that should be there, please send an email to: Webmaster@NottinghamCountry. org. If possible, we’ll include that information or make it easier to find. Your input is very valuable to our community. Nottingham Country

Our Lost Pets section has not gotten the activity this month that we are used to seeing - hopefully that’s a sign that the number of lost pets has dropped significantly. That would certainly be good news. Our Lost-Found Pets section is our section where residents can post photos and descriptions of their lost pets or pets they have found and are trying to find the owner. We have helped to reunite many owners with their beloved pets - that is truly a gratifying feeling for all. If you lose a pet or find a lost pet, please post a photo on our website www.nottinghamcounty.org and click on the LostFound Pets link at the top of the page - a photo makes a big difference and the quicker, the better. By posting on our website, the Webmaster, now is immediately notified and an Eblast will be sent out as soon as possible. We reunite a lot of pets each year thanks to our observant and caring residents. That’s what makes it all worth it.

HOW TO ADDRESS THE BOARD DIRECTLY The monthly meetings of the Board of Directors are held on the second Thursday, at 6:30 PM at the Mason Creek Community Center Houghton Room. The facility is located at the corner of Houghton and Kingsland. All members are welcome to attend the meetings. However, due to time constraints, we cannot allow audience members to speak at the meeting unless they contact us ahead of time and get put on the agenda. As much as I dislike telling that to someone who has taken the time out of his or her schedule to come to the meeting with a concern, I must respect the time of the volunteers on the Board as well. To get on the agenda, simply call SCS Management Services, Inc. at 281-463-1777, ext. 7132. Of course, you may also feel free to put your concerns in writing to any other Board member or me, via e-mail (our addresses are on the website at nottinghamcountry.org). KATY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT WWW.KATYISD.ORG KATY ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES 2016-2017 ATTENDANCE BOUNDARY MODIFICATION

The Katy ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve an attendance boundary modification (ABM) designed to address the opening of three new campuses and alleviate overcrowding at campuses landlocked with 125 percent capacity. This ABM will provide much-needed relief to Rylander and West Memorial elementary schools, as well as, balance enrollment as the District prepares to open two elementary schools and one junior high next school year. During this entire process, the District welcomed feedback from the community through an online survey. Nearly 9,000 parents, staff and community members completed the survey and dozens shared their feedback during the open forum at various Board meetings. These comments helped shape the ABM and addressed major needs and concerns cited by parents and community. The District presented to the Board a preliminary ABM proposal on November 16th and then an updated option on December 7th to better address the overcrowding at West Memorial Elementary. The Board approved the updated ABM option on December 14th. The District estimates that approximately 3,600 students will be impacted by the approved attendance boundary modifications. Katy ISD will be notifying all impacted families in January/February 2016. For more information about the ABM process, including maps of the approved attendance boundary modifications, visit the District’s ABM webpage.

Katy High School’s Head Football Coach Gary Joseph, was recently selected as a 2016 inductee into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. Coach Joseph, along with eight other inductees, were announced on Saturday, December 19th at NRG Stadium. Coach Joseph began his coaching career at Luling High School 37 years ago. After advancing in jobs at Brazosport and Austin Westlake, he then moved to Katy High School, where he has served for 33 years. His current coaching record stands at 167-14. While individual and team accolades are greatly appreciated and honored, Coach Joseph also strives to build a strong group of student athletes who recognize, through the actions of their head coach, the necessity for integrity, loyalty and the value of leading oneself and others through life’s victories with humility and hardships with grace. CHINESE NEW YEAR FEBRUARY 8 TH!

281-578-7272

An estimated 1.4 billion people around the world will be celebrating the New Year on February 8, 2016.

The competition began with blind auditions. Students individually played prepared music that consisted of several scales and excerpts from two music selections for three to four judges in a closed room. Students were scored, ranked and subsequently selected to play in the region band for the following weekend based on their audition performance.

Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, starts on the night of the second new moon of the winter solstice and ends 15 days later on the night of the full moon. During Chinese New Year, families gather to enjoy delicious foods and to wish each other good luck in the year ahead. Children are often given red envelopes filled with coins, though the money inside is not as important as the color and symbol found on the envelopes, which signifies happiness and good blessings.

In the alto saxophone section, Bradberry ranked 15th and Donalson ranked 29th out of forty-one students auditioning for five spots. Beck-Perez ranked first out of fifteen students who auditioned for ten trombone spots.

HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT OUR NATIONAL SYMBOL?

• TREE PRUNING • TREE REMOVAL

BY CHERYL CONLEY, TWRC WILDLIFE CENTER

Against Benjamin Franklin’s wishes, the Bald Eagle became our national symbol in 1782 and by 1970, they were nearly extinct. There are several reasons for this. It was legal to hunt eagles for sport and the long-held belief that eagles picked up lambs and children with their talons was another reason to kill the birds. Since the diet of the eagle is mostly fish, eagles were killed to protect fishing grounds. The use of pesticides proved disastrous to the survival of the eagles. The chemicals collected in the fish that were eaten by the birds. These chemicals severely limited their ability to reproduce and when they did produce, the eggshells were very thin and weak. The chemical DDT was restricted in 1972. Nottingham Country

When restrictions were put in place and DDT was banned, the eagle population began to rebound. It was removed from the US government’s list of endangered species in 1995 and went from being classified as endangered to threatened. In 2007, it was de-listed and has been assigned a risk level of “Least Concern.” Bald eagles mate for life but recent research suggests there may be an occasional “divorce” and if a mate dies, an eagle will “remarry.” They work together to construct the largest nest of any North American bird, which they return to every year. The work to build the nest is what actually “cements” their bond. Typically the nests are 5 to 6 feet in diameter and 2 to 4 feet wide and since they tend to use the same nest every year, the nest can continue to get a little bigger every year. They prefer to nest in old growth at least 65 feet high, near open water and away from human habitation but have been seen in populated areas.

Because the Bald Eagle is our national symbol, it has been given protection by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. The Act prohibits anyone, without a permit issued by the Secretary of the Interior, from “taking” bald eagles. Taking is described to include their parts, nests or eggs, molesting or disturbing the birds. The Act provides criminal penalties for persons who “take, possess, sell, purchase, barter, offer to sell, purchase or barter, transport, export or import, at any time or any manner, any bald eagle... [or any golden eagle], alive or dead or any part, nest or egg thereof.” In the winter of 1999, a pair of Bald Eagles decided to make The Woodlands their home. Normally staying away from populated areas, these eagles didn’t seem to mind the noise and traffic in the area. The eagles have returned every year and have fledged 22 eaglets. The Woodlands Development Company in cooperation with the US Fish and Wildlife Service developed a habitat conservation plan protecting their nesting area from development. FAST FACTS • The only difference in appearance between the male and the female is that she is bigger. Eagles have an average wingspan of 6 to 8 feet. • Bald Eagles can live up to 35 years of age. Of course there are older Bald Eagles on record. • During courtship eagles will soar into the air, chase each other, fly upside down, lock talons and take death-defying spirals back to the ground. This is done with both potential mates and competitors. Timing is everything! Poor timing can result in death for both birds. • They lay 1 to 3 eggs and incubation takes about 35 days. The eggs hatch a few days apart in the order they were laid. It can take 12-48 hours for them to hatch. • It’s not uncommon for the first-born to kill the smaller one. Parents do not intervene. • 40% of young eagles don’t survive their first flight. • They reach full adult size at 2 months. Eaglets fledge at about 3 months but it takes 4 to 5 years to become an adult. This is when they get their distinctive white plumage. • The site of their first flight is where they will return to nest and raise their young. • Once fledged, the young ones will remain around the nest for up to 9 weeks learning to fly and hunt. The parents will continue to feed them. • Bald Eagles have 7,000 feathers. For those of you interested in observing live Bald Eagles in the nest, go to eagles.org. This is a great way to let your children watch as these parents tend to the eaglets.

MARDI GRAS 2016!

MARDI GRAS FUN FACTS: WOULD YOU BELIEVE? •

More than 500,000 king cakes are sold each year in New Orleans between January 6th and Fat Tuesday and another 50,000 are shipped out-of-state via overnight courier. • The king cakes include a tiny plastic baby doll inside; the person who finds the doll is declared “king” and must buy the next cake or give the next party. • The metro area’s 37,000-plus hotel rooms are traditionally 95% filled during Mardi Gras weekend. • An economic impact study released by the University of New Orleans estimates that Mardi Gras generates over $840 million annually. • The largest of about one dozen Mardi Gras supply houses in New Orleans sells an estimated one billion pairs of beads for a Mardi Gras season.

22

• The super parades of Endymion and Bacchus, scheduled for the Saturday and Sunday before Fat Tuesday, feature a combined total of 67 floats, 60 marching bands and more than 250 units. Their 4,200 members toss more than 1.5 million cups, 2.5 million doubloons and millions of beads. • One of the most photographed objects in all of Mardi Gras is the Boeuf Gras float in the Rex parade. Since the Middle Ages, the bouef gras (fatted bull) has been the symbol of the last meat eaten before Lent. While once a live bull was included in the procession, now a huge papier-mache’ figure appears. • The five truck parades that follow the krewes of Rex, Argus and Grela on Fat Tuesday feature more than 350 decorated flatbeds with nearly 15,000 costumed maskers aboard. KATY AREA REPUBLICANS KATY’S CONSERVATIVE VOICE

3. Be generous and loving in all your dealings with your partner. Give unconditionally, rather than wanting something back in return. Instead, commit 100% to doing things for your partner and with zero expectation. 4. Always have integrity. Commit to tell your partner the total truth, as honesty is one of the key things people want in a relationship. Knowing they can trust you builds a zone of safety and comfort around them. 5. Resolve your differences as soon as they happen. Conflict actually fuels a genuinely passionate partnership. So accept responsibility for your part of the issue at stake and do not blame your partner. 6. Do not criticize. It is ok to complain but not criticize. Your partner is doing the best they can – support them in becoming an even better person. NEVER put your partner down in front of other people. 7. Create a haven for your partner. Make them feel so safe and secure with you that they drop all their defensiveness. Be considerate of your partner’s feelings and treat them with the utmost care and kindness. 8. Let go of the past. All relationships have their difficulties. Remember only the lessons learnt and forget the details. Weather the stormy moments and savor the memory of sunny days. 9. Have a fun date with your partner regularly and often. Give the relationship the same commitment you made when you first met - simply put each other first! Courtesy: lifehack.org
