or one of the prostrate junipers. • Prune spring flowering and evergreen shrubs during early March. However, be sure to prune spring flowering shrubs after they have bloomed. • Fertilize with a pre-plant application of a slow-release fertilizer analysis such as 19 - 5 - 9 at the rate of 3 pounds per 100 square feet of garden planting area. Early March is the ideal time to fertilize landscape plants because you give them food just before the spring growing season starts.

Planting the Right Tree in the Right Place
CenterPoint Energy understands that the responsible planting of trees is a way to care for our environment and beautify our community, yet we are also committed to the safe and reliable delivery of electricity. Our professional tree pruning program is integrated into our daily operations to help make this possible. Trees that grow close to CenterPoint Energy’s electrical poles and lines will be pruned by a professional tree trimming company under contract with CenterPoint Energy. Any vegetation greater than 10 feet in height will be removed from high-voltage transmission line rights-of-way. Palm trees growing near power lines create unique issues. Unlike other trees, palms grow in a straight, vertical line, with a single growing point at the top of the tree. Because of this single-growth point, normal pruning techniques are not effective. With most trees, crews are able to direct the growth away from power lines using proper pruning techniques, but growth of palm trees cannot be redirected. If you choose to include palm trees in your landscape, CenterPoint Energy recommends a planting distance of 20 - 40 feet to reduce the risk of windblown fronds contacting power lines. Consumers should plant palm trees far enough away from power lines that no part of the tree ever grows within 10 feet of the line. CenterPoint Energy encourages you to plant the “Right Tree in the Right Place” by thinking about the mature height of a tree and its distance from power lines before planting. For more information on safe planting practices and a list of power line-friendly trees, visit CenterPointEnergy.com/trees.

Talan Holmes Charity Golf Classic is a Golf Tournament that has one main goal. We are all about providing funds to a group of people who are born with Tebial Hemimelia (TH from here on). TH is a rare

malformation, 1:1,000,000 or lack of formation of the Tibia which is the weight bearing bone in the bottom of the leg. This tournament started out to pay the medical expenses of Talan Holmes, the tournament chairman’s son. Talan has undergone his first surgery and is now working with his first prosthesis trying to learn to walk. Many families, like the Holmes family, are unaware of TH and until delivery don’t know that their child has TH. Our goal, while still paying the medical expenses of Talan, is to help other families that may not have the ability to raise their own funds or simply can’t raise enough to get their child the prosthesis that he or she needs. The Golf Tournament is on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the River Ridge Gold Club, 3133 Brazos Oak Lane, Sealy, TX 77474. Registration begins - 6:30 AM, Breakfast - 7:00 AM and Event Start Time - 9:00 AM For more information about the tournament, sign up to be a sponsor and to register, visit www.birdeasepro.com/talan2012. HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW & RODEO™ COOKS UP HOUSTON’S HOT SUMMER BREAK™ BENEFITS ANNUAL EVENT
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo today announced the launch of a new summer festival, benefiting the Show and allowing Houstonians an enjoyable, refreshing and entertaining break from the city’s summer heat. Houston’s Hot Summer Break, July 4-8, 2012, is an all day, five-day music, food, beer, wine and spirits festival, featuring top chefs and mixologists, shopping, and live music. Held completely inside Reliant Center, the summer event includes cooking demonstrations, a beer brewing competition, wine and liquor seminars and the search for Houston’s best cocktail, margarita and martini. Patrons also can explore both floors of Reliant Center to listen and dance to live concerts featuring country, blues and jazz music, along with disc jockeys playing a mix of club music. “We are thrilled to announce the development of Houston’s Hot Summer Break,” said Skip Wagner, president of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. “Houstonians love to celebrate and this festival offers them a really cool way to do so. We look forward to making it one of the best and most successful events of its kind, offering attendees the ability to get away without going away!” Another highlight of the event, a restaurant-style café, will allow attendees the opportunity to sit and enjoy creations from several Houston-area restaurants, cafés and diners, including a wine bar and coffee shop. Net proceeds generated from Houston’s Hot Summer Break will directly benefit the mission of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a Section 501(c)(3) charity that benefits youth, supports education, and facilitates better agricultural practices through exhibitions and presentation. Since its beginning in 1932, the Show has committed approximately $283 million to the youth of Texas. The 2012 Show runs Feb. 28th - March 18th. For tickets and more information, visit www.rodeohouston.com.

Easter Services/Events FORT BEND SYMPHONY AND ST. PETER’S UMC CHOIR PRESENT ‘THE SEVEN LAST WORDS OF CHRIST’
The Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra returns to Katy on Saturday, March 24th, joining with the St. Peter’s United Methodist Church Choir, to present Theodore Dubois’s The Seven Last Words of Christ. The chamber concert begins at 7:30 PM at the church, located at 20775 Kingsland Blvd. The Seven Last Words of Christ provides a musical setting for seven phrases spoken by Jesus Christ while he hung dying on the cross. The phrases, taken from all four Gospels, are often shared in churches during Holy Week to help Christians reflect on the meaning of Good Friday. FBSO will accompany the choir with a smaller chamber orchestra consisting of strings and woodwinds. FBSO is under the direction of Katy resident Dr. Hector Agüero. The St. Peter’s choir is under the direction of David Galasso. General admission tickets are $10 each in advance or at the door. To purchase tickets, visit www.fbso.org or call 281-276-9642.
