CHRISTMAS YARD DECORATION CONTEST IN PARKWAY LAKES! Hang up the twinkling lights, bring out the reindeer and take part in a new Parkway Lakes tradition! We’re going to have a PARKWAY LAKES’ CHRISTMAS YARD DECORATION CONTEST! Decorate the outside of your house and yard (must be visible from the street) by midnight on December 20, 2015! Judging takes place on December 21, 2015, from the street, after dark by the judging committee. More details will be posted on our “Parkway Lakes Facebook Page.” You will also receive an email with more details if you have registered your email address on the Resident Portal with RealManage. Please register your email if you haven’t already done so! Judges will look for the following criteria: Creativity, Animation (moving parts), Sound & Special Effects and Effective Use of Space. The top three homes will receive an award sign in

GARDENING TIPS FOR DECEMBER

• If a long flowering period is desired, pansies should be placed in their permanent beds not later than this month. Fertilize monthly with manure, super-phosphate or a liquid high-phosphate product. Keep flowers picked for more bloom. • Take tulips out of cold storage and plant late this month. • Fertilize established trees, spring-blooming shrubs, spurias and sweet peas (after they are a foot tall) with a fertilizer such as 13-13-13; Louisiana iris with cotton seed mea and manure. • Azaleas and camellias may be moved now. Keep moist to lesson cold weather damage. May acidify again. • Last month to plant early blossoming spring bulbs, speciosum and other varieties of lilies. Mulch.

NEIGHBORHOOD/CRIME WATCH

We can all participate in our Neighborhood/Crime Watch! It is easy! It’s about neighbors looking out for each other. When suspecting criminal activities, you are encouraged to contact the police and not to intervene. Call Fort Bend Sheriff at 281-341-4665. An alert and supportive neighborhood is the greatest single defense against crime. By getting to know your neighbors and their vehicles, you will most likely be aware of suspicious people, vehicles and/or sounds that could indicate criminal activity. Be a good neighbor. Report suspicious activity to the police. Some neighbors are interested in organizing a neighborhood watch. We need a Co-chair and committee members. Please let us know you are interested!

ATTENTION! PET POOPS / YOU SCOOP

Please be respectful of community grounds and neighbors’ yards. If your pet poops during your walk, be prepared to scoop and trash. Come with a scooper and a recycled grocery bag or anything else. It may not be the most fabulous way to walk your pet, but it does show your respect for every homeowner and our beautiful community.

It is the law in Fort Bend County that all pets must be vaccinated for rabies, registered and restrained. All animals, when outside of an owner’s means of restraint (i.e., in a fenced back yard), must be on a leash. For the safety of all residents, please use all precautions with your pets and keep them on leashes when walking pets in the community EVEN IF YOU FEEL YOUR PET IS HARMLESS. If you see ANY animal roaming freely in the neighborhood, immediately call Animal Control at 281-342-1512. Even if you recognize the animal, be very careful approaching it, as you do not know how it will react; if you can safely retrieve the animal, then call the owner. Otherwise, Animal Control is your best and safest option.

HOLIDAY VOLUNTEERING IN HOUSTON! Looking for something more meaningful to accomplish versus fighting holiday shopping traffic? VOLUNTEER! There are many opportunities available in our city. RUOK PROGRAM Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Dept. has a computer-generated program called “Are You OK?” (RUOK). It is a computer-generated call intended for senior citizens (over 55) and disabled persons who live alone and could benefit from a daily check. A computer will generate a call each morning, at about the same time and the participant chooses a time frame. A voice will ask, “Are you OK?” After this, all they have to do is hang up the phone. If the participant goes out of town or leaves the residence for any time, you just temporarily un-subscribe and re-subscribe when you return. If the call goes unanswered, the computer will call back 3 times at 15-minute intervals. If there is still no answer, the Sheriff will dispatch a deputy or the local police. They will have with them a print out of information on the person that is not responding to the calls. This program was established by FBC Sheriff Milton Wright, Commissioner’s Court and Ken Whitt (FBC Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Assoc.) in 1998. Many police chiefs in the county are also participating in the program and will proceed with the welfare check for citizens of their

Gently stir in whipped topping. Spread into bottom of crust. Pour 1 cup of milk into large bowl and thoroughly mix in pudding mix, pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger and cloves.
