Raintree Village HOA Annual Meeting April 2012
Be on the lookout for a letter from Raintree Village HOA for this announcement. It may have a return address indicating KPM Management Company so please watch for it closely. The mailer will include a copy of the association’s year-end financial statement and voter proxy. These mailers will be sent to all property owners of Raintree Village. This year one Board position expires. Therefore, the association must hold an election. Nominations of individuals stating their intent to run for one of the positions will be included in the mailer. However, nominations will be taken from the floor during the annual meeting. The HOA Board looks forward to listening and discussing any resident concerns as well as sharing plans for the current year. Let’s have a good meeting. Let’s remember, the community goal is to ensure Raintree Village remains conducive for raising a family in an environment with limited crime activities and neighborly residents. If the community works together, this goal can be achieved. So save the date and remind your neighbors to attend the meeting too!
Spring is Here!
The first day of spring occurred on March 20, 2012. Did you know it’s known as the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere and the autumnal equinox in the southern hemisphere? On this day, the hours for day and night are approximately the same – 12 hours. The sun is at its midpoint in the sky and the North Pole tilts towards the sun. After a cold and dreary winter, spring is an opportunity to clean out the beds, nourish the grass and plant beautiful flowers. Everyone should also take this opportunity to clean the mold from all sides of your home. It’s a simple measure, which requires either a pressure washer with mild soap for a two-story home or a mop and cleaning solution for a one-story. Regardless, each homeowner needs to assess not just their yard but also their home and ensure they both look better than initially purchased. Don’t forget, the Yard of the Month Committee will commence judging yards in April 2012. Good Luck!

Last year, the HOA sponsored several community events whereby neighbors can come out get to know each other and have fun. This year, the same events have been budgeted but to ensure even greater success we need the assistance of volunteers. Additionally, we have standing committees, which require an ongoing commitment of service. Volunteers are needed for the following: Pool Committee (organizes Official Pool Opening Party) Crime Watch Committee (organizes National Night Out) Newsletter Yard of the Month Community Block Parties (Back-2-School, Halloween & Santa at Raintree Village) Again, volunteering is an opportunity to make Raintree Village a better community for all the residents. If you own a boat, trailer and other vehicles our streets should not be treated as an extension of your driveway. We encourage you to not keep such vehicles parked on our public streets for extended periods. Some residential streets become more like an obstacle course and creating blind spots while driving through the neighborhood. More importantly, parking on some residential streets can make it more difficult for emergency vehicles to service our area.

LOOSE DOGS
All throughout the neighborhood there are good people who find loose dogs and are wondering what to do. If you call a shelter, they are sure to be put to death in three days, so no one wants to do that. A simple way to make sure your dog isn’t in that category is too buy a collar and put an engraved tag on it with your phone number on it. It’s about a fifteen dollar investment, but well worth it. So if you can’t be responsible with your dogs, at least put a collar and tag on them, so all of the pet lovers out there can do what’s right and can call you.
Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal.

Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.�

While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet. RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS
A number of our residential homes need to ensure the address clearly visible and not obstructed by plants or other items. If you or someone in your home requires emergency attention, the lack of a visible address may result in delayed assistance. Reflective numbering on the curb nearest the driveway is considered the most effective. Many of the newer homes have the address located on the homes under an external light. If this is the case, it’s critical to ensure the address is not obstructed by plants.

THE STANDING RULES FOR RAINTREE VILLAGE HOA BOARD MEETINGS
The Board of Directors feels it serves you best when the Board meetings are conducted in an orderly manner. The HOA Board Meetings are held to conduct Association business. Your cooperation in this regard is requested. Parliamentary Procedure is followed at this Meeting. There are two sessions at the HOA Board Meetings, an open session when members may be present and an executive session when no members are permitted.

Board Meeting will begin with the open session at 7:00 PM until 7:15 PM when that time slot has been filled, members must wait until the next month’s meeting to be placed on the agenda. No Member may speak more than once on the subject and no more than two (2) minutes, until all Members who wish to speak have done so. 4. Members of the audience shall not be permitted to interrupt nor question any speaker. 5. After the speaker has finished addressing the Board, the Meeting Chairperson will recognize the next Member to speak. 6. Members in attendance are not permitted to engage in private discussions during the open session and must remain quite or leave the meeting room. 7. Trash Pickup Services
Royal Waste Management encourages residents to call in complaints regarding trash pickup. The crews are participating in a competition whereby the best crew receives a cash bonus at yearend. All complaints are taken seriously and posted internally for all crews to view. Additionally, the crew suffers deductions for each complaint. If you have a complaint regarding the trash service, contact Charles Gregory (Operations Manager) at 713-526-1536. Let’s be mindful that as residents, we must do our part by placing waste in trash bags. If you can’t lift the bag or trash receptacle it’s too full. You should consider breaking up your trash into more bags. We encourage you to remove all trash receptacles from curbside before you retire in the evenings. Additionally, the crew cannot pickup paint and other hazardous materials. You must take such items either to a Harris County or City of Houston hazardous waste dumpsite.

February 23, 2012 - During this week’s work study meeting, Superintendent Alton Frailey announced the reassignment of Debbie Decker as the executive director of athletics for Katy ISD. Decker has been serving as interim executive director of athletics since the retirement of Rusty Dowling in January 2012. Decker has been with Katy ISD since 2005 as assistant athletic director. She has been responsible for assisting in the overall organization and administration of the Katy ISD Athletic Department.

Prior to joining Katy ISD, Decker served assistant athletic director for McKinney ISD. Decker holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M Commerce and a Master of Education from Tarleton State University, where she also earned her principal certification. She is also a NIAAA Certified Athletic Administrator and holds an all-level physical education lifetime certificate. The Katy ISD Department of Athletics oversees the athletic programs of all six Katy ISD high schools and 12 junior high programs. Katy ISD athletic programs have been successful state-wide as Katy ISD has won 16 state team championships.

Texas Christian School is extremely proud of their Jr. High and High School Cheerleading Squad that competed in the Texas Showdown Championships in Garland, TX on February 4, 2012. The thirteen member squad competed against others schools, where they performed a cheerleading routine with music, cheers, stunts and tumbling. The Texas Christian squad took first place in Unlimited Varsity All Music. The squad worked incredibly hard and Texas Christian School is very proud of their accomplishment!!! Way to go Tigers!

These questions and many more will be answered for those who attend the 27th Annual Katy Folk Life Festival. The Katy ISD Outdoor Learning Center will be transformed into scenes of the late 1800’s, as many demonstrations and activities of pioneer life are recreated. Visitors will also be able to walk the nature trails, visit the duck pond, and see the displays and exhibits in the science and history classrooms. The Katy Folk Life Festival is a family fun event with interesting lessons in Texas History. Saturday, April 14, 2012 A BP/MS 150 Recommended Ride The Katy Ram Challenge is a non-competitive Bike Ride held annually in Katy, Texas, to benefit the Mayde Creek High School Mighty Ram Band.
