Trash PickuP services

Royal Waste Management encourages residents to call in complaints regarding trash pickup. The crews are participating in a competition whereby the best crew receives a cash bonus at yearend. All complaints are taken seriously and posted internally for all crews to view. Additionally, the crew suffers deductions for each complaint. If you have a complaint regarding the trash service, contact Charles Gregory (Operations Manager) at 713-526-1536. Let’s be mindful that as residents, we must do our part by placing waste in trash bags. If you can’t lift the bag or trash receptacle it’s too full. You should consider breaking up your trash into more bags. We encourage you to remove all trash receptacles from curbside before you retire in the evenings. Additionally, the crew cannot pickup paint and other hazardous materials. You must take such items either to a Harris County or City of Houston hazardous waste dumpsite.

crime WaTch - key reminders for summer monThs

Summer is here. There will be many unattended or unsupervised juveniles in our neighborhood. Unfortunately, this is the season when a rise in criminal mischief occurs due to unattended and unsupervised juveniles in our neighborhood. Police strongly urge parents or whether it’s a family member or a neighbor. to early morning hours. As a reminder, Katy has curfew laws in effect for minors as follows: Sunday through Thursday: 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM Friday and Saturday: 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM

Residents are also reminded to keep garage, vehicle and front doors secured when not in use. It would help police if residents also did not keep valuables in plain sight in their vehicles. If a potential thief doesn’t see anything of value, they are apt to keep walking and leave your vehicle alone. Safety lighting is another mechanism to deter nighttime crime. Remember, a safe neighborhood is a cooperative effort between the police and residents. Everyone must be diligent in monitoring and reporting any unusual activities in our community.

volunTeers needed!

Last year, the HOA sponsored several community events whereby neighbors can come out get to know each other and have fun. This year, the same events have been budgeted but to ensure even greater success we need the assistance of volunteers. Additionally, we have standing committees, which require an ongoing commitment of service. Volunteers are needed for the following: Crime Watch Committee (organizes National Night Out) Newsletter Yard of the Month Community Block Parties (Back-2-School, Halloween & Santa at Raintree Village) Again, volunteering is an opportunity to make Raintree Village a better community for all the residents. If you’re interested in any of the above communities, contact Walonda Hollins at hollinsw@ sbcglobal.net.

CRAZY DAYS OF 5TH GRADE an Iggy the Iguana Book Written by Melissa M. Williams

ble a l i a Av ow! N

Crazy Days of 5th Grade is the 3rd book in the Iggy the Iguana chapter book series for children which focuses on themes of the upper elementary classroom, including making new friends, positive changes in learning styles and respect for others. When Iggy’s new teacher, Mr. Gruff the goat, continues to eat his homework, he realizes his old ways of studying are over. It will take the mind of a creative genius and a lot of make-believe to revitalize Iggy’s concentration in class. What started off as a lonely, boring school year missing his best friend Snap Shell the turtle, turns into a suspenseful ride that includes a strange encounter with a crab and an unexpected trip to the hospital. With the help of his friends and his little sister’s stuffed animals, Iggy discovers a hidden talent proving what he once considered a problem was really a gift in disguise.

Reading level: Ages 7-11 Page count: 220 Themes include: Acceptance, Diversity, Empathy, Friendship, Bullying, Health
