We have new law enforcement - it is now Harris County Sherriff and no longer the constable.

Please take a moment to visit the neighborhood’s new website located at www.settlersvillagehoa.com. The Board is very interested in any and all feedback. Please remember the rules regarding personal sign postings. The placing of private signs of any type onto county owned sign poles or Centerpoint owned lightpoles is expressly prohibited per Texas House bill. Please do not subject yourself to the embarrassment of having your signs removed by the HOA or having a deputy come tell you that they must be removed. The HOA is now levying civil fines related to the costs of clean-up. Lastly, a quick reminder that Steve Breard has volunteered to continue collecting aluminum cans for the neighborhood with all proceeds going to the capital improvement fund for our pool. In 2012 we collected $306 and $177 in 2013. However we only collected $114 in 2014, a pretty significant decrease. For 2015, we have collected $55 so far. Please rinse and bag the cans to minimize the attraction to bugs. They can be dropped at 6642 Cove Lake. ~ SETTLERS VILLAGE HOA

Please remember to abide by the laws the legislature has put into place regarding personal signage. It is very embarrassing to have an officer show up at your home to remind you the practice of placing personal signage on county owned sign poles and Centerpoint owned streetlights is not allowed. The HOA is allowing officers to issue citations to offenders at the officers’ discretion. The HOA is also instituting fines for property owners for the clean-up of unauthorized or improperly mounted signage. Anyone 16 years of age and younger is subject to the county’s curfew and must be off the streets between midnight and 6 AM. All residents need to be aware that the Harris County Sheriff’s Department will be assuming law enforcement duties for the MUD effective September 1st. The contract with the Harris County Constables terminated 31 August 2015. The MUD Board has not decided on a new contract at this time, but, those of you with home alarm systems need to be sure you have the police dispatch number changed for your system. Please also monitor for the changeover so you are calling the correct dispatch number should the need arise. However 911 will always accept calls for any emergency.

Best Trash picks up your trash on Tuesday and Friday. Your recycle collection day will be Friday. Please have trash and recyclables out to the curb by 7 AM. On each regularly scheduled collection day, Best Trash will collect residential refuse at the curbside. Trees, shrubs, brush trimmings and fencing must be bundled in lengths no greater than 4 feet with no branch diameter larger than 4 inches and bundles weighing no more than 40 lbs. The bundling is required to allow quick pickup and size limitations are required to avoid damage to the compacting equipment. Heavy/bulky items (appliances, furniture, carpet up to 1 room rolled up 4 ft. wide and weighing less than 50 lbs) will be picked up either collection day. By Federal Law, refrigerators, freezers or any other item containing Freon must have the Freon drained and have an accompanying bill to validate such service was performed. Items excluded from normal collection are dirt, rocks, bricks, tires, cement, batteries, motor or cooking oil, waste generated from a private contractor or any items deemed to be hazardous materials. Best Trash will leave a tag explaining the reasons for non-collection of the item. An enhanced feature of the new provider will allow for collection of items excluded by the contract if notified in advance. Best Trash will meet with the customer prior to collection day to determine a price to haul the non-contract items. If a resident does not notify Best Trash of such a special pick-up before its scheduled day, Best Trash will leave a notice for the resident to contact Best Trash during normal business hours before the next scheduled pick up day. Please do not dispose of gasoline, motor or cooking oil, paints or any other liquid item in a container that is not visible to Best Trash personnel. If not visible and results in spillage that causes a stain, Best Trash will not be responsible for clean-up

CYPRESS HOOPS INVITATIONAL DECEMBER 10TH- 12TH AT THE BERRY CENTER
The Houston Methodist Cy-Hoops Invitational will be December 10th- 12th at the Berry Center. The Invitational has been going strong for six years with the first one taking place in 2009. It consists of 24 teams including the 10 CFISD boys’ varsity teams. The purpose of the event is to foster community spirit, promote the sport of basketball, engage the community and raise funds for student scholarships and staff development grants to CFISD. CFISD MENTOR PROGRAM
The CFISD Mentor Program is a cooperative effort of volunteers from businesses, faith-based and/or non-profit organizations, the community and the school district designed to encourage students (elementary through high school) to finish school and focus on future education and career goals. A mentor is a suitable role model committed to helping a student with his/her academic and social development. Currently, over 500 mentors are matched with students. To become a mentor, you must attend a training session (Register), complete a global volunteer/mentor application and consent to a criminal history record check. CY-RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA INVITED TO INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
The Cypress Ridge High School Symphony Orchestra will be joining an elite group of musicians with its invitation to the 69th annual Midwest Clinic in Chicago. The Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra and Music Conference, the world’s largest instrumental music education conference, is scheduled for December 16th - 19th. Cypress Ridge is the first orchestra from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD to be chosen to perform. The 110 member Cypress Ridge Symphony Orchestra is among six international high school orchestras that will perform at the conference. Every year, groups of every type and size from all over the world apply for the honor of performing at the conference. The Cypress Ridge Symphony Orchestra was chosen based on its excellent resume of past contest performances and on a recorded audition submitted in March. The invitation to participate is an honor and culmination of the orchestra members many years of hard work and practice under the leadership of their director, Mr. Christopher Mustell. The orchestra recognizes the once-in-a-lifetime experience and looks forward to representing Cypress Ridge, CFISD and Houston. The expenses for this opportunity are challenging and expected to run $1,500 per student. Community support will be vital in making sure every symphony orchestra member may participate. Personal and business sponsorships will help support the program and reduce the student musicians’ costs. Sunday, December 13th: 10:45 AM, the Youth Choir will be presenting their Christmas musical entitled: “A Tree Lot Christmas.” Sunday, December 20th: Cornerstone Chancel Choir accompanied by an orchestra will be presenting a special Christmas music program entitled “The Heart of Christmas” at both the 8:30 and the 10:45 AM services. There will be no worship service at 9:35 AM but there will be Christian education for all ages available at 9:30 AM. Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24th: At 4 PM, there will be the Family Christmas Service. In addition to the singing of carols and Communion, children will be invited to the front of the church to hear the Christ Story and receive a special “Christmas” gift from the church. At 6 PM & 11 PM, there will be a traditional “Candlelight and Communion” service. It will include the retelling of the “Birth of Christ” through Scripture readings and hymns. All three services will include a “Candle Lighting Ceremony” with everyone lighting candles during the singing of “Silent Night.”

HOUSTON CY-FAIR LIONS CLUB TO OFFER FREE VISION SCREENING
Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club will conduct FREE vision screening to children from six months of age and older at the Jersey Village Holiday in the Park, to be held Sunday December 6th, from 1-4 PM at Clark Henry Park. This vision screening uses a unique special camera that takes a photo of the child’s eyes and within seconds relates a pass or refer status. Those with the refer status will need to have a professional eye examination at a local optometrist. Vision problems are the leading disability in children, who are unaware that they cannot see properly. They cannot compare their vision to others and vision problems do not cause pain or inflammation, so parents, teachers and caregivers are unaware that the child has visual difficulties. Eighty percent of learning is visual. The Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club has recently purchased the Plusoptix Vision Screener for this community service project. This is part of a nationwide KidSight initiative through Lions Clubs International to screen children early for vision problems. Please bring your children to the Houston Cy-Fair
