Please, remember Sheffield HOA does not manage your trash service. This service is through Langham Creek MUD (water bill) 281-579-4500. If you have any questions regarding the new service, please refer back to the insert that was included in your water bill or contact WCA at 281-368-8397 or the MUD.

DEED RESTRICTION VIOLATIONS
Do you know what the top three reasons management companies send out deed restriction letters? The first is not keeping your yard mowed and weeded. Mow your yard on a regular basis, keeping it a little higher in the summer months, which helps in water retention and crowding out weeds. The second is leaving your trashcans out in front of the house or garage. Trashcans should be kept out of sight (in the garage, behind the privacy fence or behind shrubs or a purpose built enclosure. Contact Crest Management if you wish to build a trashcan enclosure for Architectural Control forms. The third reason is mildew on the house siding. This often happens on shady areas of the house. Power washing or spraying with a cleaning solution for mildew often takes care of the problem.
GARAGE SALE SIGNS
Placing garage sale signs in the flower and shrub beds within the neighborhood is not permitted. Such signs found in the flower and shrub beds will be removed immediately and placed in the trash.
COMMUNITY INFORMATION AND MEETING NOTICES
If you are interested in receiving Board meeting email notifications, please go to the Crest website at www.crestmanagement.com and go to communities, then scroll down to Sheffield and there you will find a place to sign up with your email address and if you scroll to the bottom, you can obtain community information, legal documents or applications as well.
TRASH
Please note that Sheffield garbage pickup (blue can) is every Tuesday and Friday, heavy trash is every other Tuesday beginning July 7th and recycling (gray can) is every Friday. Call WCA at 281-368-8397 with any questions. Please do not store your trashcans in plain sight of the street. Keep them in your garage, behind your fence or elsewhere out of sight. Thank you for your cooperation.
LITTER PICKUP
Just a reminder, if you see trash in the neighborhood, please be a good neighbor and pick it up and dispose of it properly. Otherwise, then trash will either end up in someone’s shrubbery or trees or else get washed down the storm sewers, contributing to mosquito breeding and backing up of the storm drains in times of heavy rains. Thanks to those of you who regularly pick up other people’s litter.

Please remember that you are not allowed by law to let your dogs and cats run loose in the neighborhood. If caught, you may receive a ticket in the amount of up to $500 for such a violation (we have had residents receive such a ticket). If you see loose pets you can contact Harris County Animal Control. A number of Sheffield residents either walk their dogs or let their cats run loose. It is a violation of deed restrictions to let your pet leave their poop on another resident’s lawn or the common grounds (they belong to all of Sheffield’s residents). If your pet does have to go to the bathroom, please be courteous and carry a plastic bag (store bags or the newspaper delivery bag are great for this), pick up the pile by placing your hand inside the bag, grab the pile through the bag, tie the bag up and throw it in the garbage. Leaving your pet waste around encourages the possible spread of pet disease, such as Parvo, which can be life threatening, or parasites. A number of complaints have been made about stray cats roaming the neighborhood. To report stray or unconfined animals call 281-999-3191, Monday thru Friday during the hours of 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
VANDALISM
Remember, if you see suspicious activity in or around Sheffield, please immediately call the Harris County Sheriff’s Department at 713-221-6000. Also, let Shannon at Crest Management know at 281-579-0761.
CONTACTING CREST MANAGEMENT & THE BOARD

DEED RESTRICTION TRAILERS, RV’S AND BOATS
It is a violation of our deed restrictions to park a trailer, mobile home, RV, boat, 18-wheeler tractor/trailer or camper in your driveway. You can park these on your property only if they are completely out of sight (in the garage, in the back yard behind the house). If you cannot meet these rules, it must be stored offsite (out of the neighborhood). If you have questions on this, please call the Assistant Community Property Manager, Cristine Pulatie, at 281-579-0761, ext. 636 or via email at cristine.pulatie@crest-management.com. Thank you for your cooperation.
ACC APPLICATION
Please request the ACC application for your home improvement or modification. Please include all the necessary forms, photo, paint samples, solar screen samples, drawings, brochure, lot survey and your signature for us to complete your request in a timely manner. If these items are not submitted with your application, your request is denied. A LOT SURVEY IS AN ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING OF YOUR PROPERTY SHOWING YOUR HOME, EASEMENTS AND BUILDING LINES. A COPY CAME WITH YOUR CLOSING PAPERS. You will be notified by letter after the committee has made a decision. They have 30 days to review and respond to your application. If you have any questions regarding your forms, please contact Crest Management. IMPORTANT: REMEMBER, WITHOUT PROVIDING EVERYTHING WE NEED-YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE DENIED

GARDENING TIPS FOR JANUARY
• Birds: Provide food and fresh water. More birds die from lack of water than from lack of food. • Cacti: Semi-dormant now. Reduce watering. • Camellias: Plants may be moved. Pick up and discard fallen blooms. • Cultivation: Changes in design may now be made, new beds dug and old ones rebuilt. Correct defects in drainage.

Incorporate gypsum into heavy soils: repeat in three weeks. Dig granite dust, rock phosphate and quantities of organic matter into soil. Allow time for settling before planting. • Fertilize: Daylilies, spuria, Louisiana and bearded irises with complete fertilizer. Give strawberries 1 teaspoon ammonium sulfate, keeping six inches away from plant. Fertilize pansies with manure tea or blood meal. Water in. • Fruits: Plant fruit trees. Mulch figs with grass or straw to prevent freeze damage to crown. • House Plants: Water, when surface soil is crumbly dry. Wash dust off leaves to open pores. Mist often. Inspect for diseases and insects. Reduce water for poinsettias. • Lawns: Remove thatch aerate, and feed with low nitrogen mixture. • Pests: For petal blight prevention, spray azaleas and camellias as flowers open. Spray for scale with dormant oil solution if temperature will be above 35˚ and below 85˚ for next 48 hours. Always read and heed manufacturer’s directions before spraying. • Propagation: Ivy cuttings root easily this month and next. Root cuttings of shrubs in mixture of loam and coarse sand; keep damp and semi-shaded until rooted. • Prune: Fruit trees in advance of new growth. Prune to groom and shape. Do not remove too much. Remove dead wood from trees and shrubs before spring buds swell, but do not prune spring bloomers. Prune crape myrtles. Prune nandina and others of similar growth habit by cutting unwanted canes out at base of plant. • Roses: Annual pruning about the middle of February, just

before the spring buds break. To prevent later appearance of disease in the old beds, keep garden clean of debris and weeds. Complete preparation of new beds for roses. • Transplanting: January is one of the best months to transplant woody plants, both evergreen and deciduous, especially trees. Energy will be expended on roots instead of foliage. Learn ultimate size and cultural needs of tree or plant before buying. Consider dwarf varieties to avoid crowding later. Group plants of similar cultural needs. Do not work wet soil. Assure good drainage. Keep plants moist. • Vegetables: Prepare beds, preferably raised for drainage, with about 50% humus, including rotted manure. • Winter Protection: Expect freeze any time; plan for protection of tender plants. Water. Remove coverings, particularly plastic, when temperature rises. Protect low plants with dry leaves, pine needles or soil mulch, but remove when weather warms.

COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL
Copper Creek Meadows Community held a “Cookie Kickoff” for the Annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale. We celebrated the 10th anniversary of the “Lemonade” cookie and enjoyed “frosted lemonade.” We also learned fun facts about Girl Scout cookies, played games and did other activities to help develop skills such as goal planning and financial responsibility. The annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale began on Dec. 19th and continues through March. Sales of Girl Scout Cookies provide funds for individual troop activities and help to support our Council camps and a variety of programs. Proceeds from the Cookie sale help to feed and shoe the horses, maintain the sailboats and canoes and buy archery equipment. We greatly appreciate the support of our friends and neighbors! Thank you! Information on Council Day and resident camps has been sent to registered girls, but you can also check on the Council website, www. gssjc.org.

Troop 113017 celebrated the birthday of Juliette Gordon Low, our Founder, with a pajama party on Oct 31st. The pink hats and a variety of masks added to the fun. Troop 113035 participated in a painting badge workshop at Rice University. The workshop finished with a birthday celebration and cake for Juliette! Our Leader/Daughter holiday craft event was a lot of fun for those who attended. Thanks to all who assisted with the event! Our Spring Leader/Daughter event is coming up in April. This is always a popular event, with camping, shopping and all kinds of activities. In the past, activities have included riding, rock climbing, talent show and Dutch Oven Cook-off. Can’t wait to find out what is on the schedule this year. Our World Thinking Day event is coming up in February, when we celebrate our membership in the international Scouting movement and learn about other countries. Last year, we had some very creative booths, decorations and swaps and we can’t wait to see what our troops will be doing this year! Second year Brownie Troop 16150 volunteered to decorate a float for the Great Pyrenees Rescue Group at the Brenham Christmas parade. The girls also made jingle sticks and walked with the group in the parade. These busy Brownies also joined with other Copper Creek Meadows troops who made cards, letters and drawings for soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Troops from our community also joined in creating ornaments for the Girl Scout Christmas tree at the Museum of Natural Science. This year’s theme was “Back to Nature.” Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 18, who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Girls may join at any age and no previous Scouting experience is required. Older girls whose schedules may not allow for participation in a troop may join as “Juliettes” (individually registered girls).
Copper Creek Meadows Community serves girls in the residence areas for the elementary schools listed below, as well as the corresponding middle and high schools. Home schooled and private school students are always welcome! Our elementary schools are

St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church will hold their 15th annual Chili Cook-Off and Chili Bowl on Saturday, January 30th, from 12-2 PM. This event is open to the public. Come and sample our chilies and place your vote for your favorite and see if it becomes the grand prize winner. Then join the team for a fun game of football right on our front lawn. You are invited to St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church’s Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 9th from 5:30-7 PM. We will eat pancakes and play bingo! Shrove Tuesday originated during the Middle Ages. Food items like meats, fats, eggs, milk and fish were regarded as restricted during Lent. To keep such food from being wasted, many families would have big feasts on Shrove Tuesday. The English tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday came about as a way to use as much milk, fats and eggs as possible before Ash Wednesday began. In France, the consumption of all fats and fatty foods on this day coined the name “Fat Tuesday” or Mardi Gras. You are invited to the Ash Wednesday services at St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church on February 10th at 6:30 AM, 4:30 PM and 7 PM. All services have Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes. The 4:30 PM service is designed for children and their families. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, which is dedicated to reflection, prayer and fasting in preparation for Easter.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?
We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through January. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.
