DEPUTY GOFORTH MEMORIAL UPDATE

Over the past two weeks, the SG Owners Association Board of Directors has received much feedback on the Deputy Goforth Memorial that was being placed inside the gates of the Switchback section. While the overwhelming majority of the feedback has been positive, a number of concerns from the residents within the Switchback section were given serious consideration by the Board and it is the Board’s decision to relocate this tribute, most likely to the SplashPad Area. The unfinished concrete slab will be removed, leaving only a small boarder around the flagpole, which will remain. Landscaping will be installed to encompass the flagpole, concrete edging and light fixture. The Board considered the option of relocating this tribute to the county’s Goforth Park, but restrictions and requirements for placing such a memorial on public property were prohibitive. The exact location and timing for installation at the SplashPad has not been determined at this time.

Builders in Miramesa at Canyon Lakes West have started construction of over 280 homes since the completion of the ﬁrst phase of lots in late 2014. The second phase of lots is scheduled for completion in early 2016 and we anticipate Canyon Lakes West will maintain its position in the top 20 fastest growing master-planned communities. Construction recently began on the recreation center complex in Miramesa at Canyon Lakes West. The ﬁve-acre complex will include a 3,000 square foot clubhouse with exercise facilities and meeting space overlooking a resort style pool. Dear Homeowner: Customer privacy and security have never been more important. We want to give you an update on the gates and cameras and after-hours phone numbers to Top Gun Security. Currently we have over 120 cameras up and running. We ﬁxed the cameras ﬁrst to determine who was responsible for damaging the gates by pushing them open with their vehicles. Any vehicle caught on camera damaging the gates will be responsible for all damages to the gate and gate opener. We are in the process of replacing all old hydraulic gate openers with new mechanical gate openers. The new mechanical gate openers are stronger, more reliable and are able to handle the weight of the gate. We are also installing new call boxes at the same time as we are putting in the new mechanical gate openers. You may see some street boring or cutting of the concrete to lay new lines for the system. Below we have provided after-hours contact numbers for you to report any suspicious activity. You may share this information with other homeowners. We believe the responsible use of the information is an important part of meeting your needs and provide consistent service.

PARKING IN THE STREETS

Homeowners please be aware S-G Owners Association has a Parking Policy for the community. PMG Houston will continue to enforce the Rules for the policy as they complete inspections or the violation is reported to them. If a vehicle is parked in violation the POA has the right to fine per incident after a warning notice, fines start at $50 and go up to $100 per violation, every 11 days it is reported. Also, in the gated sections of the community, the POA has the right to tow the vehicle at the vehicle owner’s expense. If you have extenuating circumstances and need to park on the street, please send a written detailed request to the Mike Graves. This will be reviewed by the Board at the next available Board Meeting. Parking is only allowed in the street during daylight hours only when the driveway can hold no additional vehicles. This includes, but not limited to; residents, guests/visitors, caregivers, home health care providers and domestic help vehicles. Vehicles that are excluded are vehicles that are providing a routine service to the home, for example, marked construction workers, landscapers, plumbers or any other commercial visitor vehicle that is marked for commercial use. Also, excluded is official law enforcement/ emergency vehicles. If a vehicle is parked in violation please provide a photo of the vehicle in question and the driveway showing space available, the property address and the date and time of the violation to the Property Manager, Mike Graves, at mgraves@pmghouston.com. Cornerstone United Methodist Church Preschool has been serving the Copperfield area since 1985. Cornerstone is a State Licensed facility operating five half days a week. CCS DRUMLINE PLACES SECOND IN STATE AND BEST IN CYMBALS The Warrior drumline, under the direction of Steve Allison and Luke Kirkwood, competed in the statewide TAPPS Drumline Competition in midOctober. This was the ﬁrst time a drumline group from Cypress Christian School has competed and the Warriors performed well. The group of 15 students entertained audiences throughout football season and will make special appearances at upcoming events.

CCS FINE ARTS NIGHT FEATURED ART, MUSIC AND DRAMA On Oct. 26th, ﬁne arts were on display at Cypress Christian School. Secondary art students created symbolic self-portraits in the shape of puzzle pieces and a mural featured all the pieces on display. Middle school and high school choirs performed hymns and spiritual songs for their ﬁrst choir concert of the year. Drama students performed the One Act Play “You Can’t Take it With You” before taking the show on the road to a TAPPS competition where they took third in district. The drama students performed at the state TAPPS competition in Austin, Texas held mid-November.

CCS NJHS STUDENTS PACK LUNCHES FOR CHILDREN IN NEED Students in the CCS chapter of the National Junior Honor Society traveled to Kids’ Meals Houston to prepare and pack hundreds of brown bag lunches for young children living in poverty. Kids’ Meals provides food for preschoolaged children who do not have access to school free meal programs. It’s common for volunteers to pack 2,500 bags every day. The NJHS students used this opportunity to fulﬁll their mission of serving the Lord and serving others. CCS FIRST GRADERS LEARN “PUMPKIN PATCH GOSPEL” “Farmer Frye” shared the gospel message with young students by using a pumpkin to illustrate sin, a clean heart and a new creation. The day after hearing this special parable, ﬁrst grade classes enjoyed a fun ﬁeld trip to Dewberry Farm. The best part of the day was a visit to the pumpkin patch so each child could pick out a pumpkin to bring home as a special reminder of the “Pumpkin Patch Gospel.”

The Houston Methodist Cy-Hoops Invitational will be December 10th- 12th at the Berry Center. The Invitational has been going strong for six years with the ﬁrst one taking place in 2009. It consists of 24 teams including the 10 CFISD boys’ varsity teams. The purpose of the event is to foster community spirit, promote the sport of basketball, engage the community and raise funds for student scholarships and staff development grants to CFISD. CFISD MENTOR PROGRAM

The CFISD Mentor Program is a cooperative effort of volunteers from businesses, faith-based and/or non-proﬁt organizations, the community and the school district designed to encourage students (elementary through high school) to ﬁnish school and focus on future education and career goals. A mentor is a suitable role model committed to helping a student with his/her academic and social development. Currently, over 500 mentors are matched with students. HOUSTON CY-FAIR LIONS CLUB TO OFFER FREE VISION SCREENING

Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club will conduct FREE vision screening to children from six months of age and older at the Jersey Village Holiday in the Park, to be held Sunday December 6th, from 1-4 PM at Clark Henry Park. This vision screening uses a unique special camera that takes a photo of the child’s eyes and within seconds relates a pass or refer status. Those with the refer status will need to have a professional eye examination at a local optometrist. Vision problems are the leading disability in children, who are unaware that they cannot see properly. They cannot compare their vision to others and vision problems do not cause pain or inﬂammation, so parents, teachers and caregivers are unaware that the child has visual difﬁculties. Eighty percent of learning is visual. The Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club has recently purchased the Plusoptix Vision Screener for this community service project. This is part of a nationwide KidSight initiative through Lions Clubs International to screen children early for vision problems.
