Currently we have over 120 cameras up and running. We fixed the cameras first to determine who was responsible for damaging the gates by pushing them open with their vehicles. Any vehicle caught on camera damaging the gates will be responsible for all damages to the gate and gate opener. We are in the process of replacing all old hydraulic gate openers with new mechanical gate openers. The new mechanical gate openers are stronger, more reliable and are able to handle the weight of the gate. The target date is to have every gate completed by July 31, 2015.

LET US KEEP OUR NEIGHBORHOODS LITTER FREE!
Take responsibility for yourself & be a good neighbor! Keep our streets & neighborhood trash & litter free! Make it a habit, be a good neighbor & do your part! If each person did their own part (around the outside of their home, including their little stretch of street in front of their house), what a better place this would be to live! A clean environment/neighborhood makes people feel good about themselves. They will keep it clean. Some need to be reminded. Others need to be continually reminded. It takes time to change habits. Keeping your neighborhood clean is a habit that takes conscious effort.

• Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out. • In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and insect treatments. Water 2” once per week. • Remove spent crepe myrtle flowers to prolong bloom production. • Weeds rob plants of valuable water, nutrients--remove them. • Great sun/heat-lovers include coral honeysuckle, coreopsis, lantana, oleanders and hamelia. • Fertilize flowers lightly, if at all; too hot for heavy feedings. • Water your lawn longer but less frequent. Deep water of about 2 - 3” per week forces plant roots to grow down, instead of sideways into sunbaked upper soil levels. Use a bowl in your yard to measure during waterings.

CCS STUDENTS VOLUNTEER FOR ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION Cypress Christian middle school students Avery Smith and Maddie Beckmeier and their moms volunteered in downtown Houston at the Arthritis Foundation’s annual community fundraising 5K walk event. They organized t-shirts, assisted with the registration process and set up the food tables. Once the race was underway, Avery and Maddie assisted the participants at the first mile maker, giving direction and cheering them on. They rounded out their volunteer service by assisting various sponsors in breaking down booths and cleaning up the grounds along the Buffalo Bayou Trail. Avery and Maddie said they enjoyed making a difference in the lives of those who suffer from arthritis by doing what the Lord calls them to do - serve! 1 Peter 4:10 says: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others…”

Chief Bragg was recognized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Salute to Law Enforcement, a program that he started. The day allows various law enforcement agencies and the public to come together for a community event in which fallen officers are recognized, scholarships are awarded and demonstrations are presented. Over the last 20 years, the event has reached more than 50,000 members of the public, and each year more than 80 different agencies are represented. “These recipients are true patriots and heroes in our community,” said Chapter Vice President Tom Jackson. “They have profound impacts in our neighborhoods and on our children. They make things better for everyone around them, and that’s exactly the spirit that the leaders, soldiers, merchants and laymen of the American Revolution would have appreciated.”

The Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Board of Trustees approved a resolution to continue the residence homestead exemptions for CFISD residents for the 2015 tax year during the regularly scheduled Board meeting on May 11th. CFISD is among a select group of Houston-area school districts that offer a 20-percent Local Optional Homestead Exemption to all resident homeowners. Coupled with a state-mandated $15,000 homestead exemption, CFISD residents pay less per year than residents of most neighboring districts on homes of the same value. The district also offers local exemptions of $15,000 a piece for both property owners who are age 65 or older or disabled. These residents qualify for an additional $10,000 state-mandated exemption.

support efforts and taught the students that if you work hard, you can play hard and they did play! Thanks to Tonya McLaughlin and Julie Mayer for their flawless choir banquet endeavor in making the trip “All Around the World” a reality for our students. Thanks go out too to their tireless minions! We say farewell to our seniors as they sang their final notes as students on the auditorium stage. Tears flowed and hugs all around as memories of high school are cemented. As part of the end of the school year performance, two students, voted on, are awarded scholarships from the Choir Board based on merit. The Music scholarship was awarded to Diana Luu and the Academic scholarship went to Tyler Denton. Congratulations to these exceptional students, as well as the entire class of 2015! We wish you much happiness in your life’s journey! It takes a strong engine to drive this choir’s adventures. That engine, the executive board, bids a warm and sincere adieu to our President, Hillary Bracher and her ever supportive husband Jimmy. Through the years they have attended banquets, danced/laughed alongside the students, scooped countless bowls of ice cream, carried power washers to car washes, sold chocolate, served spaghetti and barbecue, ideas... the list of tireless participation goes on. After two students raised through the choir, they have become a standard presence that will be greatly missed. Your volunteer hours have been many and appreciated. Our students are better people due to your leadership. Thank you.

COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL
12 Girl Scout troops participated in our Bridging Ceremony on May 2nd, ranging in age from Daisy Girl Scouts bridging to Brownies all the way up to our graduating Senior Girl Scouts from Troop 5131. Our stage was decorated with a variety of outdoor creatures made by the bridging troops. The butterflies made from pool noodle sections and tissue paper by troop 16462 and the balloon bumblebees made by troop 16320 were ones we particularly noticed. There were lots of others to look at, also - we have some very creative and artistic girls in our Community! Our Bridging troops were 16048, 16171,16460,16462,16465,16467,16407, 16320, 16464, 16137, 16170 and 5131. Congratulations to all our Bridging troops! As each troop was announced, one of the leaders told about the troop’s activities during the year. Service projects and cookie sales, (some service projects INCLUDED cookies or were funded by cookie sales), field trips and campouts, participation in Council and Copper Creek Meadows Community events were only a few of the things mentioned. Girl Scouts are active girls! Troop 16465 bridged from Brownie to Junior Girl Scouts, after a very busy year! Their most recent activity was “camping in space” at the Johnson Space Center. Their visit included Mission Control, Rocket Park and the training center and all the fun of a sleepover. Members of the troop are Kerrigan Abner, Tristan Chambers, Caroline Deputy, Carter Green, Alyssa Laich, Jaydah Mora, Kiran Nath, Annie Patrick and Mia Walther. Cadette troop 16435 used cookie booth donation funds to purchase and deliver Girl Scout Cookies to Casa Esperanza de los Ninos. They also toured the offices and learned about the children they help. Troop 113046 sent a no-sew blanket and a Girl Scout Build-A-Bear to a young girl with Stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer in Ohio. Troop 16468 members have been

earning the Independence Badge and showing their increasing maturity with a variety of activities. They have been discussing bad habits and resolving to break them; learning how to separate laundry and getting other tips for washing clothes and have been learning to help around the house (this included fixing a leaky faucet). The girls also went shopping WITH a Girl Scout buddy (without their parents) to buy 2-3 items. This helped them to learn about budgeting and making choices. Troop 16503 attended the “Nature Rocks” workshop, as part of a weekend at Camp Arnold. Troop members enjoyed preparing and eating a camp fire breakfast and also spent time at the archery range. You can see by their smiling faces that they had a great time! Daisy troop 16462 is now Brownie troop 16462. The girls have participated in many activities this year and are looking forward to having more fun with their troop next year! These new Brownie Girl Scouts are Abby Briggs, Jessica Comaitos, Kayla Delany, Julie Megason, Joie Phan and Eva Thomas. Copper Creek Meadows Community is making plans for the 2015-2016 school year. We can already tell you that Leader/Daughter weekend is on the schedule for next year! It is not too late to sign up for resident camp this summer. Camp sessions run through August 1st. Check the resident camp website at www.gssjc.org/residentcamp. There are also a variety of day and twilight camps all around the Council, including a new twilight camp scheduled for July in the Jersey Village area. Copper Creek Community would like to thank all our adult leaders and other volunteers for all their hard work! We appreciate all that you do! Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 18, who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Girls may join at any level and no previous Scouting experience is required. Don’t forget that many of our most exciting opportunities are available to older girls! BOY SCOUT TROOP 10
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high selfesteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly. Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley, Horne, Jowell, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan, Tipps, Walker and Wilson. Other Community groups include: Autumn Creek Baptist Church, Beck and Masten Automotive, Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Copperfield Church, Crossbridge Church, Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club, Deerfield

Happy Maid Service
Cornerstone United Methodist Church is conducting a shoe collection drive, which will run until the end of July to raise funds for our family life center. We will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will be utilized towards the costs associated with our family life center. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 18081 West Road. You can bring your donations by MondayThursday 9 AM-4 PM or contact the church office to schedule a time to pick up the shoes. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. By donating shoes to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives. For more information or questions about the shoe drive, please contact Scott Grow at youth@cornerstoneumc.org or contact the church office at 281-859-4141.
