PETS

Stone Gate Community has had many loose dogs & cats lately. Please do your part to keep your animals safe and contained on your property. Please Control Your Pets! It is a deed restriction violation if your pets are not confined to a fenced backyard or within your home. They must not be allowed to bark all night or cause a nuisance to your neighbors. They must also be on a leash at all times when not in a contained environment. It is also the pet owner’s responsibility to keep ALL areas of the community FREE from pet debris when walking your pets. Please remember that cats must also be confined. Animal Control can be reached at 281-999-3191. If you happen to come across vicious dogs or ANY loose dogs of this nature, please contact your local Animal Control at 281-999-3191. If you are familiar with the property address the pets belong to, please feel free to submit that information to PMG - Mike Crahan M.Crahan@pmghouston.com - to pursue the deed restriction violation. Notification and ample time must be given to the owner to correct the violation prior to any further pursuit by the Association. Remember that all pets should always wear a collar with ID tag! Pet owners should also consider pet microchips for identification in case your pet looses their collar/ID tag. Did you know? There is a Lost Pet Feature to Community Intranet • Log into www.canyongate.com/residents/sg (login required) • Click on “classifieds” under Resources located on left side of menu • Click on “lost & found pets” You personally can create a description of the lost or found pet as well as add photos. Please include your contact information to speed up communications.

PLEASE BE OBSERVANT OF POSTED TRAFFIC SIGNS, SPEED AND GATES

Please respect the posted traffic speeds and stop signs in our community. They are here to make our community a safe and pleasant place to live. School is out and our children are enjoying their summer at our amenities. Use extra caution when driving near our parks and community pools. Please also use the correct side of the gates for entry and exit.

As gates are receiving upgrades, the EZ Tag reader is assessed and repaired/replaced if necessary. Phase 4 - Pending The final phase will intel the following: 1. Assuring all gates are aesthetically attractive 2. Checking that all wires are secured and either piped or buried properly, so they don’t get damaged easily 3. While the association strives to make this a smooth transition, there may be unforeseen delays that arise. The association appreciates resident’s patience and understanding regarding this lengthy process. If you have any questions or concerns please email sgoagates@yahoo.com.

GATE UPDATE AND TOP GUN SECURITY PHONE NUMBERS

Dear Homeowner: Customer privacy and security have never been more important. We want to give you an update on the gates and cameras and after-hours phone numbers to Top Gun Security. Currently we have over 120 cameras up and running. We fixed the cameras first to determine who was responsible for damaging the gates by pushing them open with their vehicles. Any vehicle caught on camera damaging the gates will be responsible for all damages to the gate and gate opener. We are in the process of replacing all old hydraulic gate openers with new mechanical gate openers. The new mechanical gate openers are stronger, more reliable and are able to handle the weight of the gate. The target date is to have every gate completed by July 31, 2015. We are also installing new call boxes at the same time as we are putting in the new mechanical gate openers. You may see some street boring or cutting of the concrete to lay new lines for the system.

Respectfully, Stone Gate Owners Association

LET US KEEP OUR NEIGHBORHOODS LITTER FREE!

Take responsibility for yourself & be a good neighbor! Keep our streets & neighborhood trash & litter free! Make it a habit, be a good neighbor & do your part! If each person did their own part (around the outside of their home, including their little stretch of street in front of their house), what a better place this would be to live! A clean environment/neighborhood makes people feel good about themselves. They will keep it clean. Some need to be reminded. Others need to be continually reminded. It takes time to change habits. GARDEN TIPS FOR SEPTEMBER

Time now to make plans for fall landscaping projects. • Clean up flowerbeds of fallen foliage, yellowed leaves and dead wood. Light green leaves may signify lack of iron (chlorosis). Correct with iron cheleates. • Cut off old dead foliage on irises. Scratch in a little bone meal around the roots. • Prune roses to reshape and groom plants for fall growth. Follow up with a dose of fertilizer the first week of September. • Plants come out of summer rest and go crazy. Insect populations explode as we get into cooler temperatures. Diseases that have been dormant wake up.

10

- Citrus, croton, avocado and mango are susceptible to spider mites and thrips. Discourage them with a strong jet of water from a hose directed to the undersides of the leaves. - Hibiscus, citrus, palms, gardenia and ixora are susceptible to scale and mealybug. • Winter vegetable gardens and perennials get planted. • Wait until November to plant petunias and pansies. • Fire ants baits should be put out in September-October to lessen the number of eggs that make it to Spring. • St. Augustine grass gets its fall fertilizer during September. Continue to mow at maximum height. You want to leave a lot of leaf surface to produce carbohydrate reserves for the winter. • Keep an eye out for sod webworms. First sign of them is grass that appears to stop growing. You need to get them early for biological controls to work. When the caterpillars are only 1/4 inch, Bacillus thuringiensis applications can slow them. Bt is a bacteria that works on the caterpillars’ digestive systems and makes them stop feeding. Do the application late in the day. The larvae feed at night and you want them to get nice fresh Bt. • When the heat and drought end, the weather could bring brown patch disease in the St. Augustine grass. Watch for yellowish spots if the nights drop into the 60’s and days stay in the 80’s. • Get any pruning of hedges and such done now. You want the flush of new growth to be hardened-off before the end of October. Tree pruning should be put off until winter, when the trees are dormant. • Pre-emerge herbicide applications targeting annual bluegrass and the earlier-germinating winter broadleaf weeds needed to be put out starting in mid-August.

One part of the group worked primarily on construction, while others focused on a VBS (Vacation Bible School) with the village children. John Ethan was one of the main builders for a cabin the majority of the week and he helped out in various other construction projects - always giving 100% even when it meant digging a deep trench all day. Scott served on the VBS and construction teams. He even let the girls dress him up to dramatize the Bible story. He interacted with the children and always made himself available to serve in other areas. Lauren spent the week helping with VBS. She set up crafts and talked with the children to make sure they understood the story. Four Belize children accepted Christ, one of which Lauren prayed in Spanish with (thanks to Mrs. Hall’s CCS Spanish class). The VBS started with a little over 20 children and ended with 56 (actually 70 if you count the teenage boys who played “fútbol”). The cabin was fully built, new basketball goals were installed, water line and electrical trenches were dug and several trees were removed. John, Scott and Lauren agree that it was a great week and they look forward to their next mission trip. The CCS varsity cheer squad spent one of their camp days at Kids’ Meals Houston. They were able to pack more than 2,200 lunches for local children who normally would not have a lunch. The cheerleaders encourage others to make a difference by volunteering at Kids’ Meals or other non-profit organizations that help feed hungry children.

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high selfesteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). HOUSTON FAMILY ARTS CENTER ASKS AUDIENCES,‘WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?’ IN 2015-2016

“What’s wrong with this picture?” is the playful theme and question attached to each show in Houston Family Arts Center’s (HFAC) 2015-2016 season. Entering its 10th mainstage season, HFAC orchestrated a line-up of allencompassing shows that highlight the theatre’s award-winning musical expertise, all while enveloping theatre experiences full of odd, zany, mystical and dramatic turmoil audiences love. The first half of the season as follows: 2015 September 4-27, 2015: “Lend Me a Tenor” Set in the 1930s, hysterical chaos on a truly operatic level ensues when a world-famous tenor presumably goes missing on the biggest night in the Cleveland Grand Opera’s history. October 16-November 8, 2015: “Into the Woods” The fairy tale classics of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood are weaved into an original, charming, musical tale of a couple’s journey to break a wicked witch’s curse. Will the baker and his wife be able to break the witch’s spell? November 27-December 20, 2015: “It’s a Wonderful Life” George Bailey spends his life giving up big dreams on behalf of his community. Overwhelmed by family obligations, George uncovers an opportunity to save his town but a mistake finds himself in a disparaging situation. George’s guardian angel, Clarence, who hasn’t earned his wings, takes George on a journey to discover his “wonderful life.”
