CRACKED oR BUCKLED WALKWAYS

The architectural committee through AMI will begin issuing notices of deed violation to homeowners where buckled or cracked walkways are deemed to pose a safety hazard. Please be proactive and do not wait for the notice to arrive. Fix the problem as soon as possible if you notice your property has this issue. In Houston, the extreme draught conditions with intermittent soaking rains may cause walkways overtime to move, buckle or crack. Also chances are that the trees and bushes around your yards, if not thoroughly irrigated, could make the root system expand under the concrete slab. This can result into buckling and cracking. Apart from the aesthetics, buckled or cracked walkways allow water to pool causing long-term damage to the slab. Standing water also invites mosquitoes and insects. And let’s not forget the legal issues: uneven

APPRoVED CoLoRS – WooD STAIN FoR FENCES

Homeowners with a fence that faces the street must stain the visible section with approved color. The following are the approved stain brand and colors. You must pick from this list in order to comply with Deed Restrictions: Home Depot BEHR Exterior Wood Stain, Solid Color DP-396 Terra Cotta Or DP-529 Cappucino Both these are rated for 25-year protection of your fence. The architectural committee through AMI will issue notices of deed violation to homeowners who fail to stain their fence. Once again, please be proactive and do not wait for the notice to arrive. Your effort to keep our neighborhood beautiful is highly appreciated.

2012 EASTER EGG HUNT CANCELLED

Because of low attendance in 2011, the Board has decided not to hold this event this year. Instead we plan on having a bigger celebration for other events during the year. We welcome your ideas on the VAL Message Board on how we can make these events more fun and exciting. In the past, the events we celebrated include July 4th holiday, Halloween and Christmas. We would appreciate volunteers interested in playing a key role in arranging these events for our neighborhood. Feel free to call Heidi Flores at AMI or any of the Board members listed on the back of this newsletter.

DELINQUENT HOMEOWNERS

We sincerely thank homeowners who paid their dues on time. If you have not paid by now, you are past the deadline and considered delinquent. Please hurry up and pay as soon as possible to avoid large penalties, including losing your privilege to use community facilities such as the swimming pool. Delinquent homeowners who consistently remain in arrears could suffer serious consequences, including a home foreclosure. It costs your association unnecessary additional money to collect payments that are delinquent.

Mulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging helps eliminate a great many pests that die from various causes while in the bag. When you buy ‘loose’ mulch that is trucked to your home, you are also buying ants, roaches, termites, etc‌ Spend a little more on bagged material and save lots of future pest problems. Keep your mulch at least 4â€? - 6â€? below the top of your homes exposed foundation edge/ side. This will aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow for quick and accurate termite inspections.

Shrubs, Flowers and groundcovers - Trim all shrubs/plants at least 12 - 18 back from your home. Do your best to create a plant free zone that is 18 - 24 wide around your home. The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next to the slab as long as you keep it 4 - 6 below the top of the slab. The most conducive to termite infestation are groundcover plantings, growing high against your homes exterior or (especially) ivy that grows on your walls.

Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually. The spring spray eliminates overwintering pests and fungi while preparing trees to resist the pest onslaught of summer with residual pesticides. The fall spray also kills pests from the summer, prevents most fungi from occurring over the winter and puts your valuable asset off to a healthy winter’s dormancy. Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide treatment to stop brown patch in its tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is thin and weak in some areas, here are some important fundamentals: a) lawn aeration b) fertilization c) weed control. Most important is proper watering

Duplicating the same study done in 2005, this year’s study used school year 2009-2010 data (most recent year available) from information. It also assessed and compared most of the same performance categories as the 2005 study. First, the study analyzes the effectiveness of an education fund/ the students of its school district. “The rationale is that the more programs it can provide to enhance the public school experience for students,” said Dewey Caruthers, president of Dewey & Associates, studies in education, juvenile justice and public health. “I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through APRIL. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

Locally, that portion of the money is going to Adam.” The track project at Adam has been in the works for eight years, but had stalled due to lack of funding. Iggy the Iguana

Turtle Town

Students will learn how to think outside of the box and create unique characters with interesting stories. The author, Melissa Williams, will discuss the way she used her own experiences with her pets to create the fictional characters in Iggy the Iguana and Turtle Town series while teaching the use of archetypes, conflict resolution and original storyline development tactics. Students will learn how to bring their own ideas to life through words and illustrations as professional illustrator Ryan Shaw explains the process of connecting to the author’s characters with art. During the week, the students will have the opportunity to use their newly learned skills to come up with their own character and develop a unique short story that will be eligible for publication in the “I Write Short Stories by Kids for Kids” contest.
