PARKING

Please be considerate when choosing a spot to park along our streets. At the April Board meeting, various concerns were addressed regarding cars being parked along the street. Vehicles, including emergency vehicles and trash trucks, are not able to pass areas where cars/trucks are parked on both sides of the streets. Some suggestions to alleviate these issues are: 1. Utilize your driveway for parking 2. Park no more than 6” away from your curb 3. Work with neighbors as a courtesy to stagger cars as to not block the street 4. Do not park vehicles around the cul-de-sac circle of the street if at all possible Officer Glentzer will be speaking with residents whose cars block traffic in order to keep VLP safe for all residents.

WEST LITTLE YORK FRONTAGE FENCE PROJECT

Given the importance to our community of this project, the Board has decided to move forward with replacing the HardiPlank fence that borders W. Little York at the front of the Villages at Lakepointe Subdivision with a more permanent solution. The existing HardiPlank fence will temporarily remain in place for now, but will be permanently replaced with a cast concrete fence similar to the fence that now borders the Eldridge Park subdivision. The timing and overall cost to each homeowner will vary based upon whether we are able to collect funds and begin construction in the next couple of months or over the next several years.

The Board petitioned our Municipal Utility District (MUD) for financial help and was guaranteed a donation of $100,000 for the project if we are successful in obtaining approval from at least 2/3’s of the Villages at Lakepointe homeowners. To date, we have nearly 170 returned proxies with the vast majority voting Yes (approving) the one-time assessment to help fund the new concrete fence. We still have over 200 residents who have not returned a signed proxy.

Voting No • No donation from MUD. • Cost completely covered by residents through a yearly 10% increase in the Annual Assessment. • Estimated out-of-pocket expense of $820. • Project not started until estimated 2023. • Maintenance of exiting fence still ongoing.

Gaining approval by 2/3’s of the Villages at Lakepointe homeowners and the generous donation by MUD would allow us to begin construction this year. All additional funds that are not used in the construction of the new fence, would be rolled into our reserve fund and be used to cover future budget items. If we are unsuccessful in gaining the necessary 2/3’s vote, the Board has decided that we will still move forward with the plan to replace the HardiPlank fence with a more permanent concrete solution.

To assist those homeowners who would like to make partial payments over an allotted time to cover the cost of the $500 one-time assessment, the Board agreed to allow for payment plans to be set up. With a collection rate over 95% each year, the neighborhood has been very diligent in the past in paying the owed annual assessment.

A failure of the vote will force the Board to increase the Annual HOA Assessment by 10% each year (Under the by-laws of the subdivision the annual assessment can be raised 10% each year without requiring a special vote) until we reach the necessary budget number to cover the entire cost of replacing the fence. We would lose the $100,000 donation from MUD, additionally; we would continue to deal with any costs associated with maintenance of the existing HardiPlank fence until construction is completed. Funding this project via a yearly 10% increase is estimated to take 7-10 years. In year eight (2023), the annual assessment would be $1,533, an increase of $818 from this year. Cost of living increases and rebidding could cause the project to be funded via annual assessment increases through 2025, in which case the annual assessment would be $1,855.

Additionally, to reward those neighbors who would like to go out and help collect proxies from their neighbors, the Board is going to award gifts as a thank you for your help. Each month, from now until the end of June, we will award a $100 gift card to the individual who turns in the most signed proxies for that month.

Voting Yes • Donation of $100,000 from MUD guaranteed. • One-time special assessment of $500/lot to cover costs.

If you have any questions, please email them to our FirstService Residential representative Kris Bradshaw at Kris.Bradshaw@ fsresidential.com. Additionally, please be on the look out for special get togethers and/or board meetings to discuss the fence project.

• Project completed in late 2015. • Any additional funds rolled into the reserve fund. • No yearly 10% assessment increases.

Villages at Lakepointe

The HOA Board is looking for everyone’s participation and involvement in collecting the necessary votes to approve this project.

We will also award a Grand Prize for the individuals who have collected and turned in the most signed proxies. A generous donation has allowed us to award the following prizes: First Place: A new garage door (includes take down and removal of the existing door and installation of new garage door) Second & Third Place: A new garage door opener

On the collected proxies, place your name and address on the bottom right hand corner of the proxy; this will ensure we know who

VLP’S NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH GROUP

Volunteers/block captains are STILL needed for our local watch group. Please log on to Nextdoor.com and message Joe Jones if you would like to volunteer! There is a Neighborhood Watch Program Packet on the Harris County Sheriff’s Office website for review. Please get to know your neighbors, share contact information and become familiar with what vehicles belong to which owners. Report suspicious people and vehicles to Officer Glentzer or call 911. Please be sure to follow these tips to safeguard your homes: • Activate your alarm when leaving • Lock all windows and doors before leaving • Place a lock on your gate so would be burglars do not have access to your backyard • Check into updating and upgrading your alarm system and test it for accuracy • Place alarm signs/stickers in visible places • Make sure each of your vehicles has a VLP sticker displayed • Get to know your neighbors and become familiar with their vehicles - notice cars that seem suspicious • Contact our very own Deputy Glentzer at 713-471-1882 if you will be away so he can keep an eye on your home Many residents have reported not receiving the eblasts and/ or notices sent out by FirstService Residential. You should be receiving a notice from FSR of the details the Friday before the meeting.

LEASH YOUR PET - IT IS THE LAW

There have been multiple complaints regarding animals not being kept on a leash in VLP. Additionally, pet owners have not been picking up after their pets. Please read below regarding laws concerning pets and what can be done if these laws are not followed. This information comes directly from the Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services Website. • Cats and dogs may not run loose or have access to streets or sidewalks in unincorporated Harris County. • All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. • The custodian of every dog or cat is responsible for any behavior of a dog or cat under the provisions of these Regulations. HCPHES VPH and other persons designated by HCPHES VPH have the authority to impound the following: • All stray dogs and cats. • Any animal that has bitten or scratched a person. SIDEWALK AND TREE SAFETY

Many people are out and about enjoying walks and activities. The sidewalks and overgrown trees have become a point of concern in VLP. Please be aware that you are responsible for the condition of your sidewalks and tree branches and are the responsible party if someone gets hurt while on your property. Please be proactive and get the sidewalks repaired and the tree limbs trimmed. Many sidewalks are uneven due to the large trees present nearby and/or lack of consistent watering. There are many services and companies that offer a variety of options for repairing sidewalks, as well as tree trimming services. Let’s get these repairs made so we can all feel secure while walking in our neighborhood!

GET CONNECTED!

Many residents have signed up for NEXTDOOR.COM. This new and improved way to communicate with each other is more interactive and has the capability to send notices of recent conversations via email. Security issues, meetings, general inquiries and more can be posted and seen by many in a matter of minutes. And of course, the original VLP website, www.villagesatlakepointe.net is available for residents as well. Events, important announcements and minutes from monthly meetings are posted here. In addition, you will find contact information for FirstService Residential, your Board of Directors, local schools and even utilities listed here. This is also where you report streetlights that are out. It is quite a reference for many of your needs. Please contact FirstService Residential at 713-932-1122 for assistance in logging on. HOME IMPROVEMENTS

While we all love home improvements, please be sure to obtain approval prior to beginning. A complete list of the deed restrictions can be found on the website, as well as through FirstService Residential. These items are mandatory, meaning all residents must abide by them. Things such as landscaping, painting or staining, adding iron driveway fences, mailboxes, storm doors and additions such as sheds, gates or pergolas are on the list. The architectural committee enforces deed restrictions at all times and it is taken very seriously. Forms for ARC Committee approval are on the website. Some simple things that help keep our neighborhood beautiful are: • Keeping your grass cut regularly, bushes trimmed and beds free of weeds • Keeping tree limbs trimmed high enough so that people walking do not get hurt and street signs can be easily seen • Replacing dead shrubbery - required along street facing fencing • Keeping fences stained with the approved colors: Behr Exterior Wood Stain in Terra Cotta (DP-396), Cappuccino Solid (DP-529) and Valise Solid (SC-123). “I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through June. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

75TH FESTIVAL CLOSES OUT ANNIVERSARY SCHOOL YEAR IN CELEBRATORY STYLE

Thousands of community members helped bring Cypress-Fairbanks ISD’s 75th Anniversary school year celebration to a close at the 75th Anniversary Festival at the Berry Center on April 25th. Sponsored by Northwest Dodge and Bridgeland, the year-end celebration capped a school year that has paid tribute to 75 years of excellence dating back to the union of the Cypress and Fairbanks school systems in 1939. The free event kicked off in the front parking lot of the Berry Center with carnival amusements, games, bounce houses, a climbing wall, a juggler, unicyclist, stilt walker and a horse-and-buggy ride. More than 60 vendor booths lined the center of the carnival. Local country-western band Sawdust Road provided musical entertainment and guests dined from various food trucks. A stilt walker greets a child in the carnival section of the 75th Anniversary Festival celebration. The evening concluded inside Berry Center Stadium, where spectators were treated to performances by Martial Arts USA, the Cypress Lakes and Cypress Ranch high school drill teams and the Cy-Fair High School marching band. Student representatives from each district campus paraded into the stadium while holding a banner bearing their school’s name, then performed “We’ve Schools Everywhere,” a spin-off of the song “I’ve Been Everywhere” that listed each district school and support facility. After briefly addressing the crowd, Dr. Henry cued a seven-minute fireworks display, which lit up the sky over the Berry Center scoreboard.

COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL

Copper Creek Meadows Community finished up the year with a bridging ceremony for those troops moving on to the next level of Girl Scouting. Troop Leaders introduced their troops and told us about the year’s activities. The girls then walked across a bridge to be greeted by a Girl Scout from their new level. Refreshments, Girl Scout songs and a Friendship Circle completed the evening.

EAGLE PROJECT FOR MIGUEL CASANOVA

On March 28, 2015, Eagle scout candidate Miguel Casanova carried out his Eagle project with the assistance of 26 scouts and adults from Boy Scout Troop 1296. A long paved walkway was constructued at

Mcfee Elementary, running from the school portable buildings to the nearby street. The walkway will help improve the pathway from the local neighborhood to Mcfee Elementary school for both students and the public. Miguel and Troop 1296 built the pathway with weed block, pavers and sand, where there was previously a grassy area with poor drainage which was becoming muddy due to a combination of foot traffic and recent rain. The resulting pathway is the result of many scouts participating (almost 200 hours combined) in the hard digging in preparation for laying the final pavers and sand. Congratulations on a job well done!

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, selfconfidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly.

On this Sunday only, rather than the usual three services at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:45 AM (there will also be Christian Education at 9:30 AM), Cornerstone will have just one “churchwide” service at 10:45 AM. The “Patriotic Celebration” will be presented at this churchwide 10:45 AM service. An orchestra will accompany the Cornerstone chancel choir. After the service, there will be a hot dog luncheon and a time of games and fellowship. Don’t miss this wonderful event. Bring your family. Bring your friends. Bring everyone you can and come celebrated with us the birthday of our nation on Sunday, June 28th.

CORNERSTONE UMC LAUNCHES SUMMER SHOE DRIVE!

Cornerstone United Methodist Church is conducting a shoe collection drive, which will run until the end of July to raise funds for our family life center. We will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will be utilized towards the costs associated with our family life center. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 18081 West Road. You can bring your donations by Monday-Thursday 9 AM-4 PM or contact the church office to schedule a time to pick up the shoes. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. By donating shoes to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives. For more information or questions about the shoe drive, please contact Scott Grow at youth@cornerstoneumc.org or contact the church office at 281-859-4141.

BUNCO FOR FUN

Looking for players to formulate a Bunco Club. If you don’t know how to play Bunco, that would not be a problem – it is just a roll of the dice. The best benefit is meeting lots of people just like yourselves, who want to enjoy an evening out, to enjoy the camaraderie of the other women, to get away from all the everyday stress. We would usually play about 2 hours an evening and another hour for eating and mingling, etc. It would be once a month, I am hoping to get at least 12 women who can play Saturday night. If Saturday night doesn’t work out, we could always select some other night. When you commit to this game, if you can’t make it on any particular night, it is your responsibility to get a sub to sit in for you. So if you can’t be a regular member, you may be interested in becoming a sub. Please call 281-682-1750 or send an email to: taylil3511@yahoo. com if you’re interested. Please state your name, contact information (please include an email address) and what night of the week you would be able to play.
