SCS Management Inc. generates invoices for the annual assessments and they are mailed out in late November or early December. The maintenance fees must be paid in full or an installment plan set up by February 1st of each year. The management company will send out a reminder notice to all homeowners who have not paid their assessment in full or set up an installment plan with the management company at the beginning of February each year. The homeowner is not charged for this letter. the homeowner will be assessed a $35 fee for the letter. For ThIS year oNly, August. a decision in September attorney. a Demand letter is generally authorized by the Board and it is prepared and sent by the association attorney. Should the homeowner continue to remain her property. The cost of the lawsuit will result in hundreds of additional dollars being assessed to the homeowner due to the legal fees incurred by the association. During the May 21st Board of Trustees meeting, Superintendent Alton Frailey announced Heather Williams, current assistant principal of Kilpatrick Elementary, as the new principal of Stanley Elementary. This comes after Stanley Elementary Principal Kerri Finnesand, took the roll of principal at WoodCreek Junior High. Williams started her educational career in 1997 as a fourth grade teacher in Alief ISD. From there, she continued to grow to positions of increasing responsibility, moving to Lamar Consolidated ISD in 2002 and Katy ISD in 2008. Her experience includes serving as a gifted and talented facilitator, a team leader for 4th and 5th grades, a campus instructional technology specialist and an assistant principal at the elementary level. Williams holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies/Elementary Education from Stephen F. Austin University and a Masters of Education Administration and Supervision from the ESOL, English Endorsement, Reading Endorsement, Generalist/

New lunch prices go into effect next fall and are as follows: Elementary – Lunch price increases by .10¢, from $1.80 to $1.90. Junior High – Maintains current price of $2. High School – Lunch price increases by .25¢, from $2 to $2.25.

The Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved a change in the eligibility requirements for students to receive transportation services. Starting in August 2012, the eligibility for bus transportation will change from the current 3/10 of a mile to approximately 1/2 mile for elementary students and approximately one mile for junior high and high school students. Bus transportation will continue to be provided for students for whom a hazardous condition may exist between home and school, as well as special needs bus routes. Approximately 52 bus routes (elementary and secondary) will be eliminated, affecting approximately 6,600 students or nearly 21% of the 32,000 students that ride school buses daily. The Katy ISD Transportation Department began building bus routes in June and in August become available. The changes are the result of the Transportation Department experiencing particular challenges this year in having route requirements. Due to vacant routes and driver absences, there have been days in which the department has found it necessary to district to better meet route driver needs and will provide for more effective route management, including driver training and driver support in issues involving student management. “The change in transportation services comes after extensive review of our current transportation operations that not only revealed a heavy burden for drivers covering multiple routes, but also a high amount of uncertainty and risk due to vacant routes and driver absences,” said Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey. “In comparison to other school districts, Katy ISD’s transportation eligibility distances remain among the shortest in the Houston area as many districts require students to live outside of a two mile radius.”

Thus, this is how high school bowling began 75 years ago. In Texas, high school bowling began as a club sport in 2001 with the formation of the Texas High School Bowling Club Program. In its inaugural year, there were only 5 districts, 25 schools and 13 centers that participated in the program. Today, those numbers have grown to include 75 districts, 177 schools and 53 centers across the state. However, despite the rapid growth of high school bowling in Texas, it has never been adopted by the Texas U.I.L. to be recognized as a high school sport. On June 12th two Houston area high school bowlers, Keith Gardner (Katy ISD) and Dominick Savage (Ft. Bend ISD), traveled to Austin to appear before the Texas U.I.L. Legislative Committee at their Annual Policy Meeting to make a proposal that bowling be added as an U.I.L. athletic sport in high schools across the state. speak to the committee members, which was comprised of district Superintendents from throughout Texas. Having only a limited amount of time to present their topic, Keith and Dominick focused on some of the highlights about high school bowling.

At the end of their presentation, members of the Legislative Committee commended Keith and Dominick on making such a great presentation and asked several questions, such as how many students are on each of their bowling teams; which areas currently have the most concentration of high school bowlers; how much are they currently paying for a participation fee and what are provided with a copy of Keith and Dominick’s presentation along with a brochure from USBC, which discusses a little more about High School bowling. The KHS Choir Association presented a $1,000 scholarship to Sarah Reeves for a student who will be majoring in music. KATY HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR’S MASTERWORKS CONCERT On May 5th, the Katy High School Choir presented a Masterworks Concert, a project they undertake every two years. This year provided a unique opportunity for the choir students. The work they performed, Requiem by Bradley Ellingboe of the University of New Mexico, was a beautiful and moving work that both enhanced the students’ music education and delighted our audience. It was a very special experience for the students in that they had the opportunity to rehearse and perform under the direction of the composer. The evening featured a full orchestra and a solo by KHS choir senior Alex Thurman.

Come join men 18 yrs. and older for our men’s Outward Flag Football league coming this fall at Bear Creek Baptist Church. Bear Creek is located on Fry Rd and west Little York. Practice/Games will be on Saturday afternoons around 2:00 PM. The league will have a tournament at the conclusion of the season. Evaluations for all players will be September 11th and 13th from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM and the 15th the church. Bear Creek Baptist Church is offering Upward Soccer, Flag Football and Cheerleading this Fall. Our address is 5901 N. Fry Rd. in Katy, Texas 77449. We will be having Upward Soccer for children 4 yrs. by Sept. 1, 2012 through 6th Grade. Our Flag Football and Cheerleading will be for children in K this year through 6th Grade. Register began in July. Our evaluations start before the start of school. Each child needs to attend an evaluation, not for the whole two hours but for about 20 minutes. Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC) Actors Academy announces their 2012 Summer Performing Arts Camps. This summer, the HFAC Actors Academy is offering 37 different 1 and 3-week performing arts camps for grades 1-12. HFAC camps run through August 26, 2012 and feature acting, singing and dance instruction as well as performance opportunities in musicals, dramas and comedies - especially designed for kids and teens! The HFAC Actors Academy 3-week Musical Theatre Performance Camps for grades 1-3 and 4-6 are A Year with Frog and Toad, Disney’s Cinderella Kids, Jack and the Giant, and Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids. HFAC is offering twelve 1-week camps for grades 1-6 that include Acting Up, Imagination Theatre, Triple Threat Fun, The Lights of Broadway, Nail that Audition, Disney Magic, Mix-up Melodrama, Musical Theatre Song & Dance, Fractured Fairy Tales, Actors Workshop, When You Wish Upon a Star and So You Want to be a Pop Star.
